Small falls

Pretty water falls but not tall. Good hiking beautiful scenery. On hot days it's a great place to cool off. Only bad things is it's pretty tight quarters when full.

Beautiful area

Really pretty country, lots too explore around the area. Nice camping. Sometimes it does get a bit crowded.

Empty off season Campground

We stayed in Cottonwood which is brand new with nice shower facility and gorgeous lake views. There were a few other campers in other parts of the campground but being shoulder season, we had the place almost to ourselves (except for some geese) we were originally going to stay up the road at rifle falls state park but that smaller campground was super muddy due to snow melt. Good cell reception at the visitors center.

Oasis in the Desert

I typically visit this campground a few times per year on mountain biking trips. The grass fields and trees are unique in that most desert camping is spent sand out of all your nooks and crannies. The showers are a bonus after long days in the saddle.

Words can’t describe

Wonderful quite relaxing area even when biking events are going on and there are lots of people around.

High on a hill !

Booked through Passport America. Beautiful Rocky Mountain get away. We stayed one night on our way to California. The check in was difficult because only one person was working. After check in, we went to our site high on the hill above the lake. Awesome views and quiet overlook. Since fall weather was closing in, we didn’t need shade but if we had wanted it, there would have been very little to find!

One of my favorite campsites to date

Avalanche campground is a gorgeous campground. There's no camping fee, however, the site is relatively small/has limited spaces so their first come first serve policy can be problematic in finding a spot. Bear proof storage boxes and fire pits are available for each space as well. For those without AWD/4WD vehicles I would use caution/advise against since the drive to get into the actual grounds requires a bit of off roading including crossing a creek.

Super Friendly and Clean

The office manager was extremely helpful and friendly. He drove by 2 times to make sure we had everything we needed while tent camping. The bathrooms were very clean and the water nice and hot. They also have a kitchen area with microwave, filtered water and a sink for dishes, which was really convenient.
