Simple and Basic

A 5 mile hike from the Bear Valley Trailhead leading to a small campground with 12 sites.  We stayed at #9.  Potable water and vault toilets are available, with each site also having a picnic table, charcoal barbecues and bear boxes.  Wood fires are not permitted.  A stream runs beside the…

Great overnight spot

Drove past the gps directions, a lot of pull offs along the road. Some safer than others. Didn’t have any issues staying for the night.

DONT DO YOUR LAUNDRY THERE

Candlestick RV Park is expensive, extremely narrow - obviously people don't go there for the view or the nice camping experience but because it's closest to SF - so go there if you want to explore the beautiful city: Metro is 15 Min. walk an takes you downtown. But please don't do your laundry…

Illegal to sleep overnight

It's illegal to sleep overnight on HWY 1 and you're at a higher risk of getting a ticket.

A homeless shelter

The streets are lined with homeless living in RVs etc leading up to the RV park and after, it smells like sewage. When arriving I was moved to 3 different sites, all of which I couldn’t fit into. The guy running the park blamed me for not telling him I have a tow vehicle... he did however know the…

Dispersed pull-out for vans/truck campers

I parked on this little sliver because it was one of the only spots in the area with Sprint cell service.

Not entirely level, but in my small van it wasn’t an issue.

Lots of traffic during the day, but quiets down at night

There are several use trails to explore the cliffs below.

Amazing view…

The best place in the city!

This is an incredible spot, if you can get a reservation. Worth hiking to for the day if you can't. Right at the base of the Golden Gate with an easily accessible beach. BRING EARPLUGS. The fog horn doesn't quite if its foggy. And its LOUD

Most sacred

My second childhood home and one of the most sacred places I have had the blessings to be apart of, know my own children's second home. The campgrounds are amazing and a world unto themselves, so much so when Sunny Bell first brought my mom and I to Steep Ravine the cabins only cost $15 and we…

A Breath of Fresh Air

The most challenging thing about Steep Ravine is the drive from the gate on down to the parking lot. It. Is. Very. Narrow. Once you make it down cue instant zen & elation. Very clean and well maintained bathrooms with flushable toilets and sinks are right near the parking lot and wheelbarrows…

Beautiful, but raccoons are definitely a factor...

I lucked out and got a reservation at site 1 a few years back. HUGE site with amazing views of the city and the GG bridge. Three things to know before you camp there 1) There are only 5-6 sites in the whole campground, so check the website for availability the SECOND the reservation window opens,…
