    North Ranch

    Good for One Night

North Ranch is an Escapees RV park with large gravel lot and closely spaced sites. Full hook up with only 30 amp available. There is also another area for dry camping. This is a good place if just passing through and need to do some laundry and dump and fill and take a nice long shower. The sites are fairly close as most RV parks are, clean flat gravel sites. Nothing special but nothing much to complain about either.

Road noise was constant as was ATV use as many of the campers had them. Covid restrictions in place and a mask is required.

    Amenities:

2 laundry areas with washer dryers for$1.25/each open 24/7

Dog walk and fenced in dog park near the main road

Showers Cactus garden walking area- very beautiful and well care for

    Propane on site

    Recycling bin- mixed recycling accepted

    Garbage dumpster

Dump station(was closed when we were there)

    Exercise room

Back in sites are$23 for escapee members and$28 for non members. Pull through sites are a few dollars more.

Weak Verizon and AT&T with occasional streaming if you don’t mind waiting for buffering.

    Alamo Lake State Park Campground

    Great Fishing!

I grew up in Arizona and had never been to Alamo Lake.  The lake is kind of in the middle of nowhere but what a hidden treasure. We camped there in March 2018.  It was on the warm side.  The area is best suited for camping October - March.  This is the desert people.  Or if you have a giant RV with air conditioning and cable television, you could go anytime.  Fish early in the morning and late at night.

The campground is rather large with different areas for tent camping and hook-ups.  We stayed with an electric and water hook-up in a pop-up tent trailer.  There were lots of big rigs and toy haulers.  We definitely had toy envy with only our pop-up and kayaks.  This is a big ATV area so there were lots of ATVs riding around.  People also had speed boat and canoes.  The campground was not completely full even though it was Easter weekend.  It was also relatively quiet.  The bathrooms were sparkling clean and had nice showers with hot water.  There was also an AMAZING fish cleaning area at each campsite loop.  If you aren't really a campsite person, there is dispersed camping available by the shore but you need to drive down a dirt road through a tiny fork in the road "town" called Wayside.  There is a bar/restaurant/store/campground/gas station in Wayside.  The next town is about 30 miles away.

We found some great fishing which is unusual for Arizona.  We caught bass, bluegill and catfish.  We saw people catching a lot of fish.  They have bass fishing competitions at this lake and I can see why.

The lake is surrounded by pretty red mountains. The sky is a beautiful blue.  I highly recommend the area.  Not too crowded, good fishing, nice clean campground.  What more could you want but maybe a nice cold beer!

    Quartzite - La Posa

Camping in the winter in the desert, nice

I camped in La Posa South area which is one of several areas for long term camping on BLM land near Quartzsite, AZ. You can buy a permit to camp in any of the areas for the season which I believe starts in November and ends in April. They also offer permits for two week intervals if you are not planning on camping all season. It is dry camping although there is a dump station and water available along with a row of dumpsters in each area for trash. This place fills up in the winter but there are still plenty of areas to find a good camping spot. If you do camp farther out watch out for traffic from ATV's and four wheelers who don't seem to believe the speed limits apply to them.

    Ameri-Can Trails RV Park

    Quite place

Quiet RV site with tons of cute baby bunnies running all around when the sun starts to go down.

    Quartzite - La Posa

    Boondocking at its best

La Posa BLM has several entrances and is massive. It makes reviews tough on this because it depends which area you are in. I’m am reviewing Tyson Wash and South.

I do not recommend Tyson Wash for large RVs. They are there, but there are areas where the ground is deceptively soft. We got our 38ft class a stuck and had to be towed out. It’s stunning and is very quiet there, but use extreme caution with heavy rigs.

After we were freed, we crossed over to South. South is the area where you can dump, get water, and empty trash. You MUST have a permit to use the stations. There are two permits; short and long term. Short is two weeks and $40. Long (LTVA) is Sept 15-Apr 15 and is $180.

Because South is access to the stations, it is very busy there. People park in groups and are quite close. If you like socializing and whatnot, the lower part of South is for you. The upper area is a dirt road access in but very quiet with enormous space between rigs. It is almost entirely big rigs who have tip outs and such…much more private area. Please do your best to respect the space up in that area. It’s literally the reason for being there.

This is probably one of the best Boondocking areas I’ve ever seen if you know what you want. Because of the stations, there are reasonable fees but I highly recommend it.

    La Paz County Park

Nice place to stay, non-potable water

Very nice $30 full hookup. Dry camping also available. Usually booked Fri and Sat in winter as big swap meet there. River access, restaurant on premises, not too far from Parker AZ. Marked down because of water . 3 dog parks on site, showers

    Constellation Park

    Really nice, not level

Nice sites, small campground. Most sites are not level. There are a few that can accomodate a class A. You can get water and dump at Fast Mart 76 about 9 miles away. I would stay here again. It is very peaceful. Verizon cell service is good with a wifi booster, very little at&t coverage.

    Arizona Sun RV Park

    Big and small possibilities

We stopped in here this past spring in our return North. Really made for bigger self enclosed rigs, we made use of recharging our batteries (also showers and laundry) after several weeks of boondocks camping in our tear drop trailer. This year after selling our home in Reno we are here in our 25’ travel trailer spending some of the winter exploring. It’s got everything you need. Power, water and sewer. 126 spaces on a gravel lot. Close to grocery’s, post office and fuel. A lot to do in the surrounding area for day trips and close enough to bigger communities, Parker and Lake Havasu if you need a little more than what’s offered locally. Veteran/military discounts also extended stays (Nov-April) available if you make reservations the previous year. This will be our temporary home until mid spring then back on the road in April.

Guide to Wenden

The Wenden area sits at approximately 1,800 feet elevation in western Arizona's La Paz County, characterized by classic Sonoran Desert landscapes with saguaro cacti, mesquite trees, and rugged mountain backdrops. Winter temperatures typically range from 45-75°F, making October through April the prime camping season. Summer months regularly exceed 100°F, limiting comfortable camping options without adequate cooling systems.

What to do

Desert exploration: Gateway Ranch RV Resort provides convenient access to both Quartzsite and Parker, making it ideal for day trips. "Close to Quartzite and Parker," notes camper Brad P., who appreciated the "good size" sites and clean surroundings.

Off-road adventures: The extensive trail networks near Wayside Oasis RV Park make it popular with ATV enthusiasts. "There is a bar and restaurants site with pretty decent food. Great place if you have side by side, quads, dirt bike or any off road vehicle," explains Melissa S., who visits annually for the Poker Run event.

Citrus picking: Seasonal visitors can enjoy harvesting fresh fruit at certain campgrounds during winter months. "A nice perk at this park: there are a variety of citrus trees (different types of oranges and lemons) throughout that you can pick when in season," notes Laura M. about Desert Gem RV.

What campers like

Affordable accommodations: Budget-conscious travelers appreciate the economical rv sites near Wenden, Arizona. Wesley S. found Desert Gem RV to be "nothing great but for the price it good" for an overnight stay, while Nancy mentions Wayside Oasis has "awesome people here that stay throughout the winter."

Community activities: Black Rock RV Village offers numerous recreational facilities that campers consistently praise. "They have activities through out the week. They have mail boxes as well. We love it hear," shares Missy C., who also appreciated the "3 club houses and one of them is very large."

Wide spaces: RV campers value the generous site sizes at several parks near Wenden. John R. noted the "massive" spots at Salome KOA Journey, while Ashley M. observed Black Rock RV Village has "nice laundry, pool, dog area, pickle ball, horseshoes. There's even a pea patch for gardeners."

What you should know

Cellular coverage quality: While signal strength appears adequate at most rv sites near Wenden, Arizona, data speeds can be problematic. Laura M. experienced this at Desert Gem RV: "Good AT&T and Verizon reception, i.e. high bars, but for some reason service was so slow as to be almost unusable, even in non-peak times."

Road noise concerns: Some campgrounds experience traffic disruption. Brenda reported at Desert Pueblo RV Resort: "If you are in the overnight section there is semi traffic noise and train noise all night long," though she praised the hosts who "allowed us to move into their spot" when another camper departed.

Limited amenities: Many parks operate with basic facilities. Sara P. noted Desert Pueblo only offers WiFi in the "community center," and several parks have restricted shower/laundry access or minimal on-site services.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Families with children should consider Desert Oasis RV Parking for its secluded setting. "I love this location because it is secluded and not packed. There are only 2 spaces so you can be sure to have solitude," reports Caylee H., who also praised the "AMAZING" WiFi connection.

Guided excursions: First-time visitors benefit from local expertise at Bouse RV Park. Ryan K. shares: "The Park Owners led a group of us out for the day and then gave us lots of direction for places to go on our own."

Entertainment options: Family-friendly activities are available at select locations. "Nice clubhouse with a Big Screen, we caught the game on Sunday evening and then played pool until way to late!" mentioned Ryan K. about their stay at Bouse RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Seasonal planning: Many RV parks operate limited schedules. Desert Pueblo RV Resort runs from October through mid-April, so summer visitors should confirm availability in advance.

Utility considerations: 3 Dreamers RV Park in nearby Brenda offers full hookup amenities with large pull-through sites. "Tiffany and her staff were very nice. Large pull thru," confirms Kendra B., highlighting a key feature for RVers with larger setups.

Self-contained options: For RVers seeking more privacy, Desert Oasis RV Parking offers a monthly rate with excellent connectivity. With just two spaces available, advance reservations are essential for this limited-capacity option.
