Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Huachuca City, AZ

Quail Ridge RV Resort's designated dog park area provides ample space for pets to exercise after a day of travel. This well-maintained park offers spacious RV sites with full hookups where pets are welcomed throughout the grounds. Tombstone Territories RV Park features pet-friendly accommodations with hiking trail entrances right in the park where dogs can explore on leash. The wide streets and pull-through sites at both locations make maneuvering with pets easier. Campers note the big, level lots are ideal for setting up outdoor pet areas. Dogs must remain leashed in common areas and owners are expected to clean up after their pets at all facilities. Mountain View RV Park maintains both large and small dog run areas to accommodate different sized pets. Most campgrounds in the area allow multiple pets per site without breed restrictions, though some may charge additional pet fees.

Hiking trails directly accessible from Tombstone Territories provide excellent dog walking opportunities with desert terrain and bird watching potential. The San Pedro River area offers additional pet-friendly paths where dogs can explore natural surroundings. Local campgrounds provide convenient access to veterinary services in nearby Sierra Vista, approximately 20 minutes from most locations. Summer temperatures in this desert region can become extremely hot, requiring morning or evening pet exercise times and constant access to shade and water. The spacious nature of these campgrounds allows plenty of room between sites for pets to relax without disturbing neighbors. Off-leash areas are contained within designated dog parks, while all common areas require pets to be kept on leash. Several campgrounds feature gravel surfaces which stay cooler than asphalt in summer months, providing more comfortable walking conditions for pets.

    Quail Ridge RV Resort

Clean but lots of permanent & semi-permanent

This is a very large RV. “Resort” just off Hwy 90 north of Huachuca City AZ. It’s about 20 minutes to Sierra Vista, and 30 minutes to Tombstone. Wide streets for easy maneuvering even larger RVs. 30/50 amp, water, electricity, and sewer. Several bathroom/showers, laundry, WiFi. Good sized dog run. Many of the sites look like they are permanent or semi-permanent! I saw some for sale signs on lots, do you may be able to purchase a spot here.

    Bisbee RV Park

    Quiet and secure

Tranquil place for people and pets. Facilities, including dog park is clean and community if friendly. No worries except for no campfires and the nightly visits from javelinas. 😊

    Nice big lots!

Off the beaten trail a bit but we really enjoyed our stay here. Hiking trail entrances right in the park and it’s close to the San Pedro river.

There is a laundry/mail room with a restroom and then a separate bathhouse near the front. Nice little dog park for our pooch to run around too and we used the public firepit.

Kiddos said there were horseshoes to play.

    Beautiful and clean, perfect location

Upon arrival, this park is absolutely gorgeous. Check-in was swift and easy, and we were escorted to our site by a friendly staff member. Although the park is big rig friendly, we found the turn into the row very tight for our 37ft 5th wheel and long tow vehicle (about 55ft total rig length). Once in the proper row, the turn into the pull through sites is easy.

Full hookups were all working smoothly, and although we did not use any of the facilities, they all looked beautiful and clean. The dog park on the far end was absolutely spotless. The lighting around the campground at night was charming and appreciated. Our site had a tree with a picnic table under it.

We were only a few minutes drive away from all the best attractions Tombstone has to offer, but the location is quiet and away from all the commotion.

    Tombstone Territories RV Park

This was a great place to spend the winter

We spent 4 months here over the winter months. Big spacious pull thru spots and very clean and well maintained. Clubhouse and pool were closed due to Covid over reaction, and the price was still the same without those amenities.

Park is out away from civilization, with a lot of hiking /biking trails. Laundry was acceptable but not exceptional. Several machines were out of order at any given time. At the end of the winter the work campers that did such a great job all left to go north and the services all but disappeared. The park almost completely emptied out by the 1st of May.

There was a nice little dog park that that actually had some nice grass that our dog definitely enjoyed.

The water pressure on the West end of the park was terrible at times but over all a great place to spend the winter.

What to do

Hiking accessible trails: The San Pedro River area features multiple hiking options with diverse terrain. At Tombstone Territories RV Park, "Hiking trail entrances right in the park and it's close to the San Pedro river. Kiddos said there were horseshoes to play," notes Avery T. The park provides direct trail access into natural desert settings.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: The Las Cienegas Conservation Area offers excellent wildlife spotting. "There is isolated, camp sites are well spaced and the scenery is great. There are Coues deer (a small whitetail), pronghorns (get up early to see them), a prairie dog town, coyotes can be heard many nights, and all kinds of birds," explains Michael R. about the Cieneguita Dispersed Camping Area.

Historical exploration: Visit nearby Tombstone for Old West history. The Shootout Arena RV Park provides convenient access as "yards away from the main streets. You also might make it for a pro rodeo event," according to John R. The location eliminates driving into town and finding parking.

What campers like

Budget-friendly options: Many parks offer reasonable rates for full amenities. Quail Ridge RV Resort stands out with reviewers noting, "Can't believe this place is only $10 a night! Clean bathroom and nice space. I'd definitely return," says Nicole R. Another camper adds, "The cost is pretty minimal (about $13.50/night includes taxes and electricity) & the facilities are all immaculately clean."

Spacious sites: Parker Canyon Lake's Lakeview Campground provides ample room at each site. "The campground is spacious, with 30 campsites for tents that offer plenty of room and privacy. Many of the tent sites have trails that lead directly down to the lake, which makes it super convenient if you're fishing or just want to enjoy the view," shares Pedro G.

Dark skies for stargazing: The minimal light pollution in the area makes for excellent night viewing. At Cieneguita, campers enjoy "isolated, camp sites are well spaced and the scenery is great. It is isolated, camp sites are well spaced and the scenery is great. There is no highway noise and the night time stars are brilliant."

What you should know

Military access requirements: Some facilities have restricted access. Apache Flats RV Resort offers excellent facilities but "obviously, you have to be military, but the views are beautiful. The lady that runs it is very friendly and helpful. The spaces are large concrete slabs with shade trees," explains Stacey M.

Seasonal facility closures: Some parks maintain limited services seasonally. About Tombstone Territories RV Park, one camper noted, "We had reservations here for a month, but canceled because their showers are not working and we didn't want to spend a month without a shower. Also the pool is closed, and there are no plans to reopen."

Road conditions to higher elevations: Access to mountain campgrounds can be challenging. The Reef Townsite Group Area requires preparation as "the road up there, which is not for the faint of heart. It is unpaved dirt & rock, and one-lane with the occasional turnout. There are times when you are traveling within two or three feet of sheer drops off the mountain face for hundreds of feet."

Tips for camping with families

Water recreation options: The nearby lakes provide swimming and fishing activities. At Lakeview Campground, "The fishing was excellent — the lake is well-stocked, and it's a peaceful spot to cast a line. Whether you're fishing, hiking, or just relaxing by the water, Parker Canyon Lake is a hidden gem worth visiting!"

Pet-friendly considerations: Beyond dog parks, some campgrounds offer pet-friendly hiking options. At Tombstone RV & Campground, "The dog spot was clean and fun," according to Steve S. Most parks maintain designated pet areas separate from general recreational spaces.

Recreational amenities: Many campgrounds offer additional activities. "The kids and I used the hiking trails and played horseshoe toss. There are bathrooms, showers, and washing machines," reports Ray S. about Tombstone Territories. Some parks provide group facilities for family gatherings.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared for terrain variations. At Shootout Arena RV Park, "Be prepared to level rv as the spots are no where near level," warns Amilyn W. Many campers recommend bringing additional leveling blocks.

Cell service availability: Connectivity varies by location and elevation. Mountain View RV Park campers note "Internet is spotty" while at Cieneguita Dispersed Camping Area, reviewers report "Verizon 2-3 bars LTE," making it suitable for remote workers needing connectivity.

Big rig accessibility: Many dog friendly campgrounds near Huachuca City accommodate larger vehicles. At Tombstone RV & Campground, campers note "Very clean, large/wide sites" and another mentions "Easy to maneuver our 34 footer here." For larger rigs, call ahead as some parks have limited turning radius at entrances.
