Nearby historic towns: "Jerome is just up the hill. Looks like if you had a shuttle car you could probably float the river to or from camp," shares Matt L. about Rio Verde RV Park's convenient location for exploring mining towns and historic areas.
What Campers Like
Shaded sites: Zane Grey RV Village receives high marks for its mature trees. "Lots of trees, great little hiking trail down the Clear Creek. Friendly folks working and staying there," writes Laurie S.
Swimming options: Pools are a popular amenity during hot months. "This place was spotless. Beautiful walkways that were lit up it felt like you were walking through an upscale neighborhood at night. Pool and a dog run which is always a plus," notes Julie F. about Distant Drums RV Resort.
Evening atmosphere: "They have a pool, spa, miniature golf, off leash dog area. Only down fall was fire ants. With the lake of rain in the area the ants were all over. The river is nice a small hike from the camp," reports Fawn C. about evening activities.
On-site entertainment: "We love this campground! We have camped here around 5 times and always had a great stay. They have a pool and hot tub, mini golf, playground, pickle ball court, clubhouse, and lots of crafts and activities for the kids!" shares Mstwister E. about Verde River RV Resort.
What You Should Know
Highway proximity: Some campgrounds sit near major roads. "They acted like I was an idiot for not going to our assigned spot, even though we did not know where that was and demanded we moved. The location is close to I-17 which has its pluses and minuses. Easy to find and get around, but truck noise throughout the night when you attempt to sleep," reports Katy R. about Munds Park RV Resort.
Seasonal considerations: Temperature differences between summer and winter are significant. "We stayed in the A section. We had a nice spot and an easy walk to the pool. Next time we want to check out the H section as they seem to have more trees and less light at night," suggests Michael M.
Pet policies: Most parks accommodate pets with specific areas. "Very dog friendly and they even have a dog park, and 'office' dog. I would rebook here again we had such a lovely experience," Christina R. notes about pet-friendly facilities.
Reservation requirements: "Next time we will do our best to get there as early as possible (noon is the earliest to check in)...as the spots are first come/first serve. At registration they will give you a map and highlight which spots are open," advises Michael about the check-in process at Verde Valley.
Tips for Camping with Families
Kid-friendly activities: Verde Ranch RV Resort offers multiple recreation options. "We took advantage of the laundromat which was great. Too cold to use the pool or tennis courts," notes Seth P. about the resort's year-round facilities.
River exploration: "We threw rocks in it for hours with our 2 little kids. The owner of the park came over and introduced himself. He even made us a fire because he knew we wanted to do s'mores!" shares Madison S. about creek access at Zane Grey RV Village.
Educational sites: "It is about 30 minutes to emergency medical care. There are quite a few long term residents. The people were nice but not overly friendly. Activities like bingo were offered during the cooler months," reports Candy H., highlighting location considerations for families.
Heat management: Traveling with children requires planning around temperature. "I would 1000% recommend this camp ground! Super close to everything... super clean and super friendly!" notes a camper about proximity to attractions during hot months.
Tips from RVers

Hookup locations: "Our site had a tree with nice shade. Level easy set up, full hookups and a cement pad out our front door. The staff was friendly the bathroom and laundry was spotless," Julie F. reports about Rio Verde RV Park.

Connectivity: "We stayed in the newer section which had big lots but no trees," notes Mendie E. about the tradeoff between shade and satellite access at some RV parks in the region.
