Best RV Parks & Resorts near Cornville, AZ

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

The Verde Valley houses multiple RV resorts between Cottonwood and Camp Verde, with Cornville positioned centrally among these destinations. Verde Ranch RV Resort provides 389 sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups, sewer connections, and water. Rancho Sedona RV Park features gravel sites with concrete pads for picnic tables and premium creek-side locations, though fires are restricted in certain areas. Thousand Trails Verde Valley offers spacious premium sites with full hookups situated on level gravel surfaces. Rio Verde RV Park accommodates 64 sites with full hookups but sits adjacent to the highway. "Nice RV park in Sedona. Gravel spots for your rig with concrete pads for the picnic tables. Avoid sites 60 and 61. They are beautiful with shade from giant trees however the trees are full of Great Blue Herons and our rig was covered in poop the next morning."

Several campgrounds in the region maintain year-round operations, though summer temperatures often exceed 100°F in the lower elevations. Most RV parks require advance reservations, particularly during peak spring and fall seasons when Sedona attracts significant tourism. Distant Drums RV Resort features perimeter sites with better views, while interior sites tend to be more compact. Many parks provide amenities including laundry facilities, pools, and organized activities, though prices vary significantly with Rancho Sedona commanding premium rates due to its proximity to downtown. A traveler noted that while Verde Valley RV Resort offers numerous amenities including "pool, sauna, community room, shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, tennis, mini golf," their WiFi signals were "pretty spotty." Most parks accommodate pets but enforce leash requirements and designated pet areas.

    Thousand Trails Verde Valley

Nice campground unless you are in the low rent district

I was really looking forward to Cottonwood camp, outside of the Sedona area.  The campground had excellent reviews so we booked three nights.  There are many different sections of the park and your experience overall could be impacted by which site.  We were in site 141 close to the main activity room.  These sites are very packed and there are a lot of long-term guests and it looks like it.  The other sites throughout the park are better, especially the ones on the ridge with a view.

The other challenge was almost zero connectivity even using a hot spot.  I work remote so this was a challenge and I had to take work calls in the public lodge.  The lack of WiFi at all limited our other devices as well.  Not an option if you work on the road.

The area however has amazing natural beauty, parks and lots of hikes.  Some are dog-friendly, but some are not, so recommend checking.  The town of Sedona has changed over the years with many more tourists, traffic and high prices.  I would likely not return or stay somewhere more in nature, but with cell service as well.

Lakeview Campground (Az) — Coconino National Forest Recreation

Nice respite from the Sonoran Desert heat

In the off season, this sweet little national forest campground is a quiet oasis in one of the beautiful “islands of the sky” which are scattered throughout Arizona.  Up at 5000 feet, this place becomes a busy retreat for Tucsonians seeking to escape some of the summertime heat, according to the park ranger we spoke too. It's also a haven for birds!

The campground has designated section for RV’s and tents, though they are same price at just $10 per night.  Many pull-through sites are available for larger RV’s, as well as some back in spots. Each site has a HUGE cement picnic table and fire ring and are a nice size with plenty of space between sites. There are trash cans (though no recycling) throughout the campground, and a water spigot near the very clean pit toilets, thanks to the dedicated and very friendly camp hosts.  The tent sites overlook the Parker Canyon Lake and are quite spacious. There are few tent sites for groups too.

There is a nice boat dock, as well as small store near the water that sells snacks/drinks, bait, and a few camping necessities.  You can rent kayaks, paddle boats, SUPs, sailboats and small motorized fishing boats…or bring your own. There is also a nice and easy trail that follows the lake shore for about 6 miles, accessible to both hikers and mountain bikers.  From the lake trail, you can also access the Arizona Scenic Trail (the southern terminus is about 15 miles south of the lake). We also saw quite a few fisherman out enjoying the lake during mid-week.

The closest grocery stores and gas stations are in Sonoita, about 30 miles away.  Cell coverage is limited here as you are very close to the Mexican border – none in RV campground, just a bit of coverage in the tent campground.

    Village Camp Flagstaff

    An experience in itself!

RV or tiny homes…this place is AMAZING. We were in the RV side very clean, level elite back in with a concrete patio. Picnic table AND propane fire pit provided. The clubhouse has a bar and grill with a GIANT patio, live music, a store, heated pool and spa, a large game lawn and trails behind. Backs up to a national forest. Bathrooms and laundry clean and convenient. Well organized and friendly staff. Cons: trains in the distance and some interstate noise but that’s to be expected. The camp is NOT right up on the interstate you just can see it from various sections of the camp. We only had one neighbor at our site since it was on the end which was nice. Would DEFINITELY stay again.

    Sedona View RV Resort

Amazing Views of Sedona Red Rocks

The Sedona View RV Resort is a really clean and safe Park. The Staff is friendly and help you any way they can. They have Full Hookups with 30 & 50 amp service. They do charge a KWH fee for electric for a monthly stay. However their monthly charge is NOT high like other Resorts in Camp Verde.

They have a shower and laundry house. As of March 2021 showers are still closed due to Covid 19. Laundry is open.

Most sites are level but there are some on the outer parameter that you’ll have to work a little magic. Inner sites are fine.

If you like hiking, this is right next to the National Forest with a trailhead right in the Park.

Quiet at night. Watch the moon rise over the mountains.

    Verde Ranch RV Resort

A Good Basecamp to explore Sedona

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 3 Local Attraction Proximity: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 5 Customer Service: 4 Cleanliness: 4

Verde Ranch RV Resort is a newer RV campground located about 30 minutes South of Sedona. It offers lots of amenities including a big, lovely pool, laundry facilities, a decent sized workout room, a community center, pickle ball courts and more. In the age of COVID, a lot of these amenities are closed or restricted but we were able to use the pool on our visit. They offer different levels of sites based on price but we didn’t see much differentiation based on the price levels. We chose a covered site through their easy online reservation system as we were visiting in the dead of summer. We weren’t super stoked on our selection once we arrived. Our hookups were in the very far back corner of the space so we needed to choose between a small sliver of shade provided by the solar cover or the reach of our dump hose. Not ideal. We seemed to be in one of very few spots with this weird location for hookups. The end spots of the shaded area are hardly covered so it might not be worth it to you because these spots are pretty close together with no privacy in between sites. All sites seemed nicely wide enough to allow slide outs and big rigs. Plants between sites are all very newly planted and so don’t offer privacy yet.

From what we were able to access, the grounds seemed very clean and well maintained. The online reservation process was easy though it was hard to get ahold of the office prior to and upon self-check in. Staff we did encounter were friendly and, though there are a lot of rules, there was no policing.

The biggest draw for these grounds was proximity to Sedona (30 min), Montezuma’s Castle (10 min) and Tuzigoot (25 min). We enjoyed a visit to all 3 within our 2-day stay. We enjoyed our stay and the awesome pool in the desert heat but next time we might opt to stay a little closer to Sedona.

    Houston Mesa Campground

    Great spot

We spent 4 nights in #3 Mountain Lion loop. Pull through site that our 30' toy hauler fit nicely in. Would be tight for anything larger.

Really beautiful place with many trees. Convient toilets and showers. Showers are $3 for 6 minutes. We didn't use them. Lots of bear proof dumpsters.

Hosts were friendly and not intrusive. Firewood available for $8 a bundle. You can get the same firewood at the Circle K in Payson for $6.

Water fill and dump station at the campground entrance and several water hydrants throughout the campground.

The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because of the road and aircraft noise. It was pretty loud during the day but we didn't have any trouble sleeping.

    Would definitely come back here.

    Verde Ranch RV Resort

Take a break and relax at this resort!

GREAT RV park for big rigs. Very nice pool, great dog park with dog pee pads of turf all over the park (my dogs appreciated that over peeing on the gravel! Ha). We weren't super thrilled we paid so much for a back-in site to the Verde River when the river wasn't very full or the site very close to it. They nickle-and-dime you, even for an optional picnic table! But the pool and club house were beautiful, so it felt like a really nice break from the typical campgrounds. Truly a resort.

    Thousand Trails Verde Valley

    Beautiful Thousand Trails RV Resort

The Thousand Trails Verde Valley RV Resort is a lovely Thousand Trails RV park located in Cottonwood, Arizona in the Verde Valley. The park is very well-kept and maintained and the staff is friendly and helpful. The premium sites are unbelievably huge in size and have upgraded FHU. The views from them are worth the extra $5-7.50 per night alone! They are level and gravel which makes parking a dream! The amenities here include pool, sauna, community room, shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, tennis, mini golf, hiking trails, game room, pool tables, horseshoes, ping pong, dog runs, etc. The park is located just down the road from Cottonwood and the historic downtown district. There is a lot of things to do nearby including hiking trails, wineries and vineyards, shopping, historical sites, state parks and more! The only downside we have found to this park is the Wifi. Our signals have been pretty spotty here. This is definitely one of the nicer Thousand Trails parks we’ve been to and we will certainly be back. 👍🏻

Flagstaff RV Park (formally Greer's Pine Shadows RV Park)

    Tall pines and tight sites

This park has been renamed to Flagstaff RV Park. The grounds are well kept in a tall evergreen forest. Spaces are fairly close but enough room to get in and out with ease. Park is right next to a highway so expect some niose. No showers/restrooms but there is a laundromat on site. Host is very friendly, booked me at the last minute and got a great spot. There are a few long-term residents, but most seem to be travelers. Wi-Fi is decent and T-Mobile got a good signal. I would stay again as a stop over

Guide to Cornville

RV camping near Cornville, Arizona offers visitors an accessible desert base with access to numerous natural attractions. Located at approximately 3,300 feet elevation, Cornville sits in a transition zone between desert lowlands and higher pine country, creating moderate temperatures compared to Phoenix and Tucson. During summer months, overnight temperatures typically drop into the 70s while daytime highs can exceed 100°F in July and August.

What to Do

Creek access: Thousand Trails Verde Valley offers direct access to the Verde River. "River access is available at site C which we stayed at and our furbabies loved it! Sedona is only 45 mins from here so an even bigger two thumbs up!" notes Rebecca N.

Hiking trails: Many parks connect to nearby wilderness areas. "If you like hiking, this is right next to the National Forest with a trailhead right in the Park," explains Scott about Sedona View RV Resort.

Wine tasting: "A short walk across what the property will find you at Alcantara Winery. It was the perfect place to end our day of exploring the area," says Kaysha R. about nearby vineyards accessible from some camping areas.

Nearby historic towns: "Jerome is just up the hill. Looks like if you had a shuttle car you could probably float the river to or from camp," shares Matt L. about Rio Verde RV Park's convenient location for exploring mining towns and historic areas.

What Campers Like

Shaded sites: Zane Grey RV Village receives high marks for its mature trees. "Lots of trees, great little hiking trail down the Clear Creek. Friendly folks working and staying there," writes Laurie S.

Swimming options: Pools are a popular amenity during hot months. "This place was spotless. Beautiful walkways that were lit up it felt like you were walking through an upscale neighborhood at night. Pool and a dog run which is always a plus," notes Julie F. about Distant Drums RV Resort.

Evening atmosphere: "They have a pool, spa, miniature golf, off leash dog area. Only down fall was fire ants. With the lake of rain in the area the ants were all over. The river is nice a small hike from the camp," reports Fawn C. about evening activities.

On-site entertainment: "We love this campground! We have camped here around 5 times and always had a great stay. They have a pool and hot tub, mini golf, playground, pickle ball court, clubhouse, and lots of crafts and activities for the kids!" shares Mstwister E. about Verde River RV Resort.

What You Should Know

Highway proximity: Some campgrounds sit near major roads. "They acted like I was an idiot for not going to our assigned spot, even though we did not know where that was and demanded we moved. The location is close to I-17 which has its pluses and minuses. Easy to find and get around, but truck noise throughout the night when you attempt to sleep," reports Katy R. about Munds Park RV Resort.

Seasonal considerations: Temperature differences between summer and winter are significant. "We stayed in the A section. We had a nice spot and an easy walk to the pool. Next time we want to check out the H section as they seem to have more trees and less light at night," suggests Michael M.

Pet policies: Most parks accommodate pets with specific areas. "Very dog friendly and they even have a dog park, and 'office' dog. I would rebook here again we had such a lovely experience," Christina R. notes about pet-friendly facilities.

Reservation requirements: "Next time we will do our best to get there as early as possible (noon is the earliest to check in)...as the spots are first come/first serve. At registration they will give you a map and highlight which spots are open," advises Michael about the check-in process at Verde Valley.

Tips for Camping with Families

Kid-friendly activities: Verde Ranch RV Resort offers multiple recreation options. "We took advantage of the laundromat which was great. Too cold to use the pool or tennis courts," notes Seth P. about the resort's year-round facilities.

River exploration: "We threw rocks in it for hours with our 2 little kids. The owner of the park came over and introduced himself. He even made us a fire because he knew we wanted to do s'mores!" shares Madison S. about creek access at Zane Grey RV Village.

Educational sites: "It is about 30 minutes to emergency medical care. There are quite a few long term residents. The people were nice but not overly friendly. Activities like bingo were offered during the cooler months," reports Candy H., highlighting location considerations for families.

Heat management: Traveling with children requires planning around temperature. "I would 1000% recommend this camp ground! Super close to everything... super clean and super friendly!" notes a camper about proximity to attractions during hot months.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: "There are a mix of full timers and daily/weekly visitors. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful. I can't say we met a bad neighbor either, and most were super nice people," shares Steve N. about Rancho Sedona RV Park, noting the community atmosphere.

Hookup locations: "Our site had a tree with nice shade. Level easy set up, full hookups and a cement pad out our front door. The staff was friendly the bathroom and laundry was spotless," Julie F. reports about Rio Verde RV Park.

Size considerations: "The resort has spacious RV spots with extra room to park your vehicle(if towing). Each spot has a nice concrete slab with a picnic table. The Small trailer, tent camping sites are very big and have a lot of distance between them," Patti S. explains about space allocation.

Connectivity: "We stayed in the newer section which had big lots but no trees," notes Mendie E. about the tradeoff between shade and satellite access at some RV parks in the region.
