Dispersed camping areas near Pinedale sit at elevations ranging from 7,000 to 9,350 feet in Wyoming's high desert terrain. The camping season typically runs from May through mid-November, with July and August offering the most moderate temperatures. Summer temperatures can fluctuate dramatically between hot days and cold nights, with afternoon thunderstorms common during peak season.
What to do
Fishing access points: At Warren Bridge Recreation Area, campers can fish directly from their sites along the Green River. "The sites are right on the water with good access, fire rings, tables, and vault toilets. Directly across the river from our site is a tall pine with an eagles nest," notes TheFoxphire F.
Wildlife viewing opportunities: Bird watchers visiting Warren Bridge report exceptional sightings. "2 large Bald Eagles hang out there in the evening, while a large Golden Eagle watches the nest and fights off the peregrine falcons while they're gone. I'm not a birdwatcher, but this was simply an amazing experience," reports one camper.
Mountain hiking trails: Trails End Campground serves as a gateway to the Wind River Range backcountry. "Very nice small campground but very good privacy between sites. I camped here before backpacking the Wind River Range. No water. But did have a very clean bathroom and excellent paved road to campground," notes Lisa H.
What campers like
Late-season camping: Boulder Lake Campground offers extended season access. "This is one of my favorite places close to home for camping. My family and I have been going here for years, since I was a little kid. It's a little desert oasis," writes Amanda T.
Solitude at higher elevations: Dispersed camping at Kelly Park provides more privacy than lakeside sites. "The level spots are pretty spread apart so doesn't feel crowded. Made it okay in our SUV and 25' camper," says Brittany F.
Boat and watercraft access: Boulder Lake Campground serves water recreation enthusiasts. "Great location on the lake and campground on the creek. Multiple sites with fire pits and pull over grated. Sites also have bear locks and picnic tables," according to Chris S., who notes the area's fishing potential.
What you should know
Road conditions: Access to Willow Lake Campground requires careful navigation. "A short shelf road, climbs up to lake and down again to the lake. Take it easy this is a 1 track road. Cross your fingers and hope nobody tearing up from the other side," cautions Joe J.
Water levels affect sites: Seasonal variations impact available amenities. "The water was too high to use the picnic tables, fire pits and bear boxes. There's only one hole toilet for the entire lake; no water or dumpsters," reports Suzy S. about Willow Lake.
Limited facilities: Most dispersed sites offer minimal services. "No marked sites, water or trash and cell signal is dependent on your camp," notes Greg L. regarding Kelly Park dispersed camping.
Tips for camping with families
Dog friendly campgrounds near Pinedale: Beyond Soda Lake, Highline Trail RV Park welcomes pets with spacious sites. "The grounds are well groomed with ample space between sites. Plenty of shade and great views of the mountains. The horses grazing in the open areas just added to the ambiance," writes Lori T.
Swimming options: Pet-friendly swimming spots vary by location. "Water is clear but cold and super quiet during the week. We are the only people here right now. So amazing. Be prepared for bugs tho. You need deet, torches, and keep a fire on low wind," advises Carla K. about Willow Lake.
Weather preparation: Families camping with pets should prepare for temperature extremes. "The area around the lake is completely void of trees, so all of the sites are full sun, but there was a good breeze/wind most days," notes Ray & Terri F., who camped at Soda Lake.
Tips from RVers
Cell service and connectivity: RVers should note varying connectivity. "AT&T service was poor without a booster, with 0-2 Bars of 3G service, but nearly no data throughput. With our weboost, it got a little better with 3-4 bars of LTE and speeds up to about 0.5 MB/s. T-Mobile service was good with 4 bars of 4G/LTE," reports a camper at Soda Lake.
Sizing considerations: Boulder Lake has limitations for larger rigs. "Gravel access road from the Boulder Wyoming area. Limited number of established sites in the formal campground loop. Other folks camp near the Boulder Creek trailhead. Suited for tents and smaller RVs. Bigger RVs camp near the trailhead parking area," explains Karla B.
Leveling requirements: Many sites are surprisingly level despite appearances. "The site was surprisingly level too, almost didn't need to level at all," notes Ray & Terri F. about their Soda Lake spot, while Warren Bridge campers report the gravel sites require minimal adjustment.
