Best Campgrounds near Augusta, WI

Augusta, Wisconsin provides access to several county park campgrounds and private RV resorts within a 25-mile radius. Coon Fork Campground features spacious campsites with lakeside options and is popular for families, with amenities including hot showers and flush toilets. Harstad Park offers a more rustic experience with 27 primitive sites along the Eau Claire River, while Sandy Hill Campground provides access to Lake Eau Claire. Both tent and RV camping are available throughout the region, with some locations like The Woodland and Stoney Creek RV Resort also offering cabin accommodations.

Camping in the Augusta area operates primarily from April through October, with limited winter availability at select locations. "Harstad is get away camping. Right on the Eau Claire River with canoe kayak access. Only has pit toilets, no electricity and no showers," notes one visitor, highlighting the primitive options available. Most campgrounds in the region provide fire rings, picnic tables, and access to basic amenities, though services vary significantly between developed and primitive sites. Several locations charge day-use fees for boat launches and recreation areas. Cell service can be limited at more remote campgrounds, and visitors should carry cash as many facilities only accept cash for firewood purchases and additional services.

Waterfront camping represents a significant draw to the area, with non-motorized lakes being particularly popular among families. A camper described Coon Fork as having "spacious campsites, surrounded by trees. Try to get a lake side site, they are amazing!" Several campgrounds prohibit motorized watercraft, making these lakes ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. Visitors consistently praise the privacy between sites at Coon Fork and other county parks, where mature trees create natural buffers. Wildlife viewing opportunities are common, particularly at dawn and dusk. Reservations are recommended during summer weekends when beaches and waterfront sites fill quickly, especially during holiday periods. Many campers appreciate the enforcement of quiet hours at the county park campgrounds, making them suitable for family camping experiences.

    Reicks Lake Park

    Didn’t stay the night

Based on picture, we planed to stay at this campsite. It is right in the side of the highway, so too much noise and traffic for us. The picture this site provides is actually the other side of highway, over a hill, so you can’t see it from campsite. but there’s a view of marshlands. It’s $20, have showers and toilets. There’s a small playground for kids. We came across people That said they camp there all the time and love it.

Castle Mound Campground — Black River State Forest

    Really beautiful state campground

Beautiful, clean, peaceful, wooded campground. Its mid-week and there's only a few other campers here. Most are super respectful with the exception of one group that has the occasional outburst but they were mostly quiet otherwise. We saw some bunnies, birds and raccoons. Heard squirrels, owls and other birds. Vault toilets throughout the campground and one building with showers and flush toilets near the visitor center with plenty of parking. Water fill and dump station located at the front near the visitor station as well. We got here around 6pm yesterday and no one was at the check in so we used the kiosk to get the park pass. A bit steep for out of state visitors @ $16 but they seem to keep the park in great shape so for once it was worth it. Lots of space and shade in all spots. Many sites with electric and some without. Plenty of spots can accommodate mid-large campers. Its about half and half pull-thru or back-in/pull-in. We have a 26 foot travel trailer and had no issues. Mostly level spots as well. A lot of trees are close to the road and made it slightly challenging to maneuver the road but nothing too crazy...just pay attention if you have a larger camper. We dont make it though wisconsin a lot but we'd definitely come back here again. Easy and quick to get to from 94 and less than a mile from Walmart. Plenty of stores/restaurants nearby. Really the only complaint besides the high entrance fee for out of state is that it is close to the town and you can definitely hear traffic. It's not too bad considering the surrounding woods definitely deaden the noise. Wish we could have stayed longer to explore the park better.

    Holden Park Campground

    Peaceful, Friendly Camping

A friendly campground host and wonderful county staff keep this little campground in good shape. Updated in 2025 with a new shower/restroom facility, fire rings, paved drive, and playground equipment. There are 20 sites, most of them will need some leveling for rvs. Generous firewood available for $5. Not many mosquitoes. ATT LTE cell 3 bars.

    Blueberry Fields Forever

Beautiful, rustic, quiet and peaceful campground

This campground is unique, and very beautiful. The setting is a blueberry farm, and the scenery is gorgeous! It is very quiet, when we were there we were the only campers. Some mornings customers come to the farm to pick blueberries, but there is no bother. The owner, Steve is the best! If we had a need, he did all he could do to meet it. If you are looking for quiet, peaceful and rustic--this is your place

    Eagle Ridge Campground

Okay for night, safe clean campground

The spots were narrow and opened up to neighbors. We were fortunate to have no neighbor on either side, but I could see how that would limit privacy. Laundry was clean but small only 2 washer/2 dryer and no fan in room….really humid in evening and you didn’t want to open door due to bugs. Bathhouse clean….decent rec area for kids including sand volleyball court.

River walk trail…not detailed in paperwork. Trail is just ok, a bit overgrown and lots of bugs. We made it a good ways in and felt like we were parallel to River, but it’s so thick with growth…you can just make it out through brush. I was not prepared with flip flops so I turned back. Unknown if nice view at end.

    Chapman Park Campground

    Nice place

We pulled in on a Sunday night and all but had the place to ourselves. Our site was on a small, beautiful lake and close to the bathrooms. We had a slight breeze and very few bugs. I am not sure if I would stay there for a full week and keep busy. But I wish my town had a park with everything that this one has.

    Merrick State Park Campground

Thin on Services, But Ahhh, Right on the Water!

Three loops: north (with electric service), island (walk-to, tent only) and south (dry camping).  We toured the north loop; sites are pretty close together and not that well screened from each other.  We stayed in the south loop, all of which sites are well spaced and decently screened from each other.  Half face toward the Mississippi and half face toward the shore, but all are right on the water.  The river was high when we visited, and some of the river-facing sites were flooded out.  Not crowded on the south loop, even in the run-up to the 4th of July weekend, with reservations available facing the river (even the dry ones!).  Vault toilets, one each for men and women, separated by 50 (?) yards, plus two accessible porta-potties in the loop--seemed meager for the possible number of campers in high season. Some train noise, and many motor boats--fishing and skiing--but the boat noise, of course, calmed down as the sun set.  Overall, a bit ill-kept, but right on the water!

    Medford City Park

    It’s a city campground

It’s small but the sites are nice with electric and water. A police officer even held traffic at bay and guided me into the site.

Guide to Augusta

Located in west-central Wisconsin, Augusta sits at an elevation of 930 feet in the rolling hills of Eau Claire County. The area features numerous camping sites near Augusta, Wisconsin with access to the Eau Claire River watershed. Winter camping options remain limited with most area campgrounds operating April through October, though several facilities have begun extending their seasons to accommodate growing demand.

What to do

Paddling opportunities: Lake Wissota State Park Campground offers diverse water recreation on its 6,300-acre lake. "Beautiful shaded campground with semi private sites. Nice beach that is a walkable distance from the sites. Lots of walking, biking and horse trails that are full of wild berries," notes a visitor. The park has boat rentals and complementary yard games available at the visitor center.

River adventures: Harstad Park provides direct access to the Eau Claire River. "Right on the Eau Claire River with canoe kayak access. A great shallow creek for kids to explore," reports one camper. The park recently added new playground equipment in 2022, enhancing recreational options.

Family activities: Stoney Creek RV Resort features numerous structured activities beyond standard camping. "This is an amazing place for families to spend time camping. There are so many different planned activities for both the children and the adults to participate in," mentions one reviewer. Amenities include mini golf, laser tag, a bounce pillow, skate park, and arcade.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Coon Fork Campground receives high marks for site privacy and size. "The sites are very generous with a lot of green between spaces. You are not on top of your neighbor," writes one camper. Sites include fire rings, picnic tables, and many have a bench next to the fire pit.

Clean facilities: Lake Wissota State Park maintains excellent standards for their restrooms. According to one camper, "Clean bathrooms with showers. Wonderful staff in the visitor center. Firewood and ice sold on site." Rangers regularly clean facilities, though campers should note that bathrooms close for cleaning between 7:30-8:30 am.

What you should know
