    Pikes Peak State Park Campground

    Beautiful Campground & Views

FYI When we made reservations this site required a two- night minimum stay. Don't know if that is for all seasons. Nice pull-through, large enough for our 36' 5th Wheel and pickup tow vehicle, needed more leveling than some. Some sites have power and water, ours only power. There's a water pipe and dump station on the way out. Nice hiking trails, including to a beautiful river overlook.

    Neshonoc Lakeside

    Old school camping fun

This is a huge campground. It feels like a true old-school “campground” not an rv resort or even an RV park. The kind of campground you loved as a kid. It is hilly with mature trees, although not every site has shade. It is very family friendly. There are RV sites, cabins, tent sites and park models. A lot of long term people live here. The sites are grassy or gravel and are very roomy and level. Lots of activities for the kids…basketball, horseshoes, volleyball, sizeable pool, and playground. This place is older but very clean. Very friendly staff. The lake is absolutely stunning. Snag a spot with a lake view if you can! (See map pic). 1-2 bars on AT+T.

    Neshonoc Lakeside

Great value as a TT member

This campground came to us through Thousand Trails Collection.  At first we only had a W/E site and later was able to move to a full hook up site.  All sites has a gravel pad with a grass yard, fire ring, and picnic table.  The fire rings are sunk completely into the ground for some reason.  The lots were spacious and the property offered a large pool, hot tub, restrooms, showers, laundry room, fishing and canoeing.  This is a pet friendly park.

    Pikes Peak State Park Campground

    Gorgeous park, small campground

There are about 30 electric site big enough for RVs, and about 35 non electric site. All are very nice sites with fairly level gravel pads. There are lots of trees for shade making the sites really beautiful if not spacious. We had a tight fit with our travel trailer on site 33e, but once we squeezed in it was excellent. Two bathrooms one with showers, and well kept. The best thing about this park are the wonderful hiking trails. Some are ADA accessible near the camp store, but most are a good climb with lots of ups and downs. Town of McGregor has a few cute restaurants and bars, but enjoy the park and the amazing views of the Mississippi and the Wisconsin rivers. Several big rig RVs were there, but call ahead if you’ve got a big RV to make sure you’ll fit.

There are some fantastic cycling routes near the river, with stops in all the little towns along the way. A wonderful place to spend a weekend, with apple orchards nearby.

    Christmas Mountain Village Campground

Christmas in Summer but I think I will skip the WInter.

This is a member resort but they do allow the public in.  We went in as Coast to Coast members.  This is an all season resort it does have a ski hill and accommodations for winter.  You can buy a condo resort, Lease a Time Share, buy a camping site ( with a Park Model on it,  Camp in a Motor Home, Trailer or Tent.  You can camp with full hook ups or as they call it the Wilderness Camping, they have some with 110 hook ups.

Facilities are very nice and clean, Swimming Pool, Club House with a lot of things to do. The sites are nice and big most are either pull through or large back in sites.  They also have an 18 holes golf course, since we don't golf really don't know how it is.

They have some WIFi but it is best at the club house the hotspots worked better.

If you would like to  visit Wisconsin Dells this is a great place as it is not very far from downtown and all the activities.  We spent 2 days exploring the Dells even in rain.  Had a great time.

If you are in the area I would check it out.

    Fireside Campground

    Quiet and friendly RV camping

This is a RV campground, with both seasonal and weekend sites. Coin laundry and shower room with 4 showers. They have nice level site in a grassy and sandy area, with enough tree coverage for shade but not so much you’re freaking out parking your camper. Big rig friendly. Decent wi-fi and plenty of space on your site. Dog friendly. They have a big playground for kids, and activities. For us, this was a great place for us to easily set up our camper and use it as a base camp for hiking at Governor Dodge, visiting House in the Rock, and tubing on the Pine River. The staff here was super helpful and friendly, and the seasonal campers were all nice and chatty. We have camped at another RV campground in Spring Green that has a party vibe, and this was a more relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely come here again!!

    Pettibone Resort

Nice park on Miss River in LaCrosse

Pettibone is a nice park on an island in the Mississippi River in LaCrosse. Being from Louisiana it was cool to camp right beside the Mississippi River since we have levees between us and the river. We stayed one night on our way to Minnesota. There is plenty of shade. The park streets are asphalt with two concrete strips for your tires in the sites. The park was quiet except when someone decided to shoot fireworks between 10-11 pm. A little pricey at$54 considering there were no sewer hookups.

Stayed in pull-through campsite#308 which was shady. It was a grass site with two concrete strips for my TT tires. There was more than enough parking for my TT and truck and grass on either side. The site included: picnic table on a concrete pad. Utilities were located in the rear. 20A/30A electric and water. Site was a little unlevel. Neighbors are close.

AT&T had 2-3 bars of LTE and Verizon 1 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 146 Mbps down, 4.8 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 016 Mbps down, 0.14 Mbps up. Free WiFi.

Would stay here again. We camped at Pettibone Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Fox Hill RV Park & Campground

Good mix of rv and nature

We visited for opening weekend during COVID-19, so the park was quiet but open. The staff and owners here were very friendly and extremely helpful when we ran into some snags with setting up camp. We were able to check in online and drive right to our campsite, to get our enjoyment started right away. Our spot, F-2, was right across from the playground and great for my kiddo. Only neighbors to the sides and woods behind. This park has some nature trails, disc golf, and a good size dog run. It’s well kept and maintained. All site are pretty level with gravel pad and logically positioned utilities. The tent loop is more remote, but not a far walk from the park and pool. Pool wasn’t open yet this early in season. We enjoyed our peaceful stay and even booked for Memorial Day weekend as other campgrounds are closed and cancelling reservations. We are happy to have our social distanced camping experience and we’re very happy with Fox Hill. Can’t wait to come back when summer is in full swing! Compared to other campgrounds in the Dells, the price is reasonable for full hookups. It’s also really close to Devils Lake and Mirror State Park, so a perfect spot to have excellent hiking opportunities nearby and be able to quickly access all the yahoo craziness of the Dells area if you need an Olde Time Photo or a water skiing show. If you golf, there’s a 9 hole course next door that is easy to walk to.

Guide to La Farge

The La Farge area sits within Wisconsin's Driftless Region, characterized by steep valleys, sandstone bluffs, and meandering rivers that escaped glaciation during the last ice age. Camping options near La Farge range from basic tent sites to full-service RV parks, with most campgrounds positioned along rivers or nestled in forested valleys. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region due to the hilly terrain, with stronger signals typically available on ridgetops.

What to do

Kayaking on the Kickapoo River: Paddlers can access the Kickapoo River from Wildcat Mountain State Park Campground. "Great location for kayaking and hiking. The facilities are well maintained and clean. Ontario to bridge 5 was 2.5 hours," notes a visitor to Wildcat Mountain State Park Campground.

Disc golf courses: Several campgrounds offer on-site disc golf. "This park has some nature trails, disc golf, and a good size dog run. It's well kept and maintained," reports a camper at Fox Hill RV Park & Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple lakes and rivers provide diverse fishing options. "Lake Neshonoc is great! Great place to go kayak, decent place to fish, and good access to bike trail. The lake is about 600 acres in size and about 11 feet deep at the deepest point. Lake Sturgeon, Bass, Muskie, Pike, Walleye, and Bluegill can be caught at this location," explains one visitor.

Hiking trails: The region offers varied terrain for hikers of all abilities. "Hiking trails were pretty close and we had quite the exercise going up/down the mountain," shares a camper who stayed at Wildcat Mountain State Park Campground, adding that "Ice Cave trail was a neat, quick walk. The trails around have gorgeous views of the driftless area and Kickapoo river."

What campers like

Swimming options: Campers appreciate the variety of swimming opportunities. "With 2 swimming pools, daily activities, movies, and a full ice cream shop you won't be bored here. The top one is very large and new with a splash pad area. The lower pool is older and smaller, and where grown ups tend to go for a dip," shares a visitor to Neshonoc Lakeside.

Quiet, wooded sites: Many campers value the natural setting. "The sites were spaced apart far enough so you weren't on top of the other campers. Very beautiful scenery, especially from the lookout," notes a Wildcat Mountain State Park visitor.

Family activities: Organized events enhance the camping experience. "They had all sorts of odd decorations randomly nailed to trees which distracted from the wagon ride and made us adults ready to get off of the wagon," reports a camper at Arrowhead RV Campground, highlighting the unique wagon rides offered.

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness ranks high in camper satisfaction. "Despite the very crowded campground, the bathrooms were immaculate. Even the Men's room was super clean. They have 3 indoor showers in each gender bathroom, and a couple of outdoor shower stalls," notes a Fox Hill RV Park visitor.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds operate from mid-April through mid-October. "We stayed over Memorial Day Weekend at site 183. It was spacious and very well kept, with a great view of the lake. Wry easy to back in and get set up, almost level and took very little adjustment to get our spot in order," reports a camper at Fox Hill RV Park.

Weather considerations: The region experiences all four seasons distinctly. "We when's when it was very hot. And raining. There was a small general store that had food and ice cream. And a small game room. They even have a pool," shares a visitor to Arrowhead RV Campground.

Water quality: Some campgrounds have mineral-rich water. "Make sure to use a water filter outside your camper. The water left an orange residue in our dog bowls, sinks and pipes," advises a camper who stayed at Ho-Chunk RV Resort.

Noise factors: Some campgrounds are near roads or other facilities. "We found this site through Bring Fido, because we were bringing our pup with us. However, there is a dirt track with racing just adjacent to the campground, so our poor guy was pretty nervous the whole time. The race ended at 11 and we had no problem sleeping," explains an Arrowhead RV Campground visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Proximity to attractions: Choose campgrounds based on planned activities. "This campground is only 10 to 15 minutes from everything that you would want to do in the WI Dells. We did do some traditional Wisconsin Dells things while camping. One of which was riding the Original Wisconsin Dells Duck Boat Tour. While the jokes are super cheesy, the scenery is beautiful and the driver let our son drive the duck boat in Lake Delton," recommends an Arrowhead RV Campground visitor.

Kid-friendly campgrounds: Look for sites with dedicated children's activities. "Great campground for the family. Hosts provide plenty of activities like a DJ, breakfast, and lunch and donuts! Rentals for golf carts are available and a store on site. Arcade for the kids," notes a visitor to Yukon Trails Camping Resort.

Playground access: Consider proximity to play areas when selecting a site. "Our spot, F-2, was right across from the playground and great for my kiddo. Only neighbors to the sides and woods behind," shares a Fox Hill RV Park camper.

Evening entertainment: Many campgrounds offer nighttime activities. "In the evening there was a Glow Parade where the full timers decked out their golf carts and drove around- candy for kids and lots of dancing. Bingo, tie dye, outdoor movies, and other relay races kept the kids happy and adults amused," reports a Neshonoc Lakeside visitor.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for RVs near La Farge: Consider the layout and access when choosing an RV site. "The new section will be a lot better next year, but just finished construction and it is still a wide open area. It was dusty and hot because the grass isn't gown in yet, there's still a ton of sand, and no trees. So the new sites currently have little to no shade," advises a Fox Hill RV Park visitor.

Hookup placement: Be prepared for varied utility locations. "Bring extension cords for electrical hook ups.... Odd outlet placement," recommends a visitor to Arrowhead RV Campground.

Leveling challenges: Many rv sites near La Farge, Wisconsin require additional equipment. "Our site was very unlevel side to side. It took two 2x6 and a 1x6 under the camp side to be level. That made the first step into the coach, and last step out of the coach extremely high off the ground," reports a Fox Hill RV Park camper.

Seasonal considerations: Access and amenities vary by season at camping areas near La Farge. "Great place to go kayak, decent place to fish, and good access to bike trail. The campground is more for motorhomes/rvs and the 'glamper' types. Not ideal for tent campers. You can also rent cabins of all sorts of sizes," notes a visitor to Neshonoc Lakeside.

Full hookup availability: Whiskey Creek Family RV Park offers complete services. "This is a great destination RV park if you are looking for a family getaway or just a quiet trip for two. There is plenty to do at the park including a cool swimming pond with inflatables, live music most weekends, corn hole tournaments, Friday fish fry, and much more," reports a visitor.
