Originally designated the Ma-na-to (Manitoo) River, translated “Stooping Spirit River,” by native Ojibwe peoples, the name was mistaken by early settlers to mean “Devils River.” This mistranslation stuck and today Devils River is the name of the 16-mile-long waterway that flows into the West Twin River, which in turn empties into Lake Michigan. Visitors to the river can enjoy some outdoor time at the Devils River Campground, while exploring some of the historical sites around the area, including an old mill and the remains of an old stone bridge. The river is also a popular fishing hole for bullhead catfish, rock bass, northern pike, and brown and rainbow trout. Located approximately 30 minutes southeast of Green Bay, the Devils River Campground offers 130 parklike campsites situated among open, grassy clearings (i.e., minimal privacy) surrounded by shady trees. Sites can accommodate both tent and RV campers (max 50 feet), and are equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and water and electrical hookups. The central comfort station provides flush toilets, showers and laundry facilities; a dump station is located nearby. The campground also features a large swimming pond, a playground, and access to the Devils River State Trail for exploring the river, wetlands, and local prairies. Dogs are welcome at this campground. Campsite rates are $32–$38/night. Situated right in the campground is the historic Rock Mill. Constructed in 1847 by Pliney Pierce, the mill first operated as a sawmill, then as a gristmill, for nearly a century. The remarkably well-preserved building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The mill is not open for public touring, but can be viewed from outside. Just a mile south of the campground, visitors can explore some natural history at Cherney Maribel Caves Park. The park has many caves, crevices, and cliffs that can be explored by the public. A few caves can only be seen by joining a seasonal cave tour. The park also has picnic areas, a playground, and trails for hiking, biking, and skiing.

When you’re relaxing on the warm, sandy beaches at Kohler–Andrae State Park, gazing across the watery expanse of Lake Michigan, you’re not likely contemplating the area’s nearly two-million-year history. This is when Ice Age glaciers carved out the lake basin and rising and falling water levels dramatically changed the landscape. Soon after, the first Paleo-Indians began inhabiting the area, who hunted mammoths and giant musk ox around the northeastern regions. Moving into the Christian Era, the Hopewell, Chippewa, Potowatomi, and Sauk took turns residing here. Then came European settlers in the 19th century, who had no interest in beachfront property, as it couldn’t be farmed. It wasn’t until the early 20th century that Americans started to value outdoor recreation as a form of relaxation and entertainment. Today, you can enjoy this 1000 acres of sandy beaches, rolling dunes and mixed woods, where you’re more likely to be contemplating the cool breeze what to barbecue for dinner. For grilling up your tasty burgers, be they beef, beet, or anything in between, Kohler–Andrae State Park offers a large campground with fire rings and picnic tables in each site. There are more than 130 tent and RV sites to choose from, some with electrical hookups. There is also two group tent sites. The campground provides flush restrooms with showers, picnic areas and shelters, a playground, amphitheater, and laundry facilities; a dump station is located nearby. The campground is open year-round, but some amenities may not be available in winter months. Dogs are permitted in the campground and on some trails, but must remain leashed. Campers can access the beach through the picnic area or via a short nature trail. There is also an ADA accessible cabin available to rent. Campsite reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance; seasonal rates are $15–$40/night. While soaking up the sun and splashing in the lake are the main draw to Kohler–Andrae State Park, there’s much to do. Visit the Sanderling Nature Center at the north end of the park where you can explore interactive exhibits about the area’s natural history, and native flora and fauna. Kids can become Wisconsin Explorers and earn a patch for completing activities. For some paddling fun, you can launch your kayak or paddleboard right from the beach, or for fishing, head over to the fishing pond on the Ancient Shores Trail. And speaking of trails, the park has 8.5 miles of nature paths and hiking trails to explore, many of which are barrier-free. A walk on the aforementioned Ancient Shores Trail reveals where the lakeshore existed more than 5,000 year ago; the Marsh Trail along the Black River is a good place for bird and wildlife watching; and the Dunes Cordwalk explores the park’s dunes, wetlands and white pine forest.

Great location. It was very quiet, with lots of greenery. The amenities were very clean and well taken care of. The level of seclusion and privacy varied depending on the camp sites.

      Enjoyed our stay!

Site we got was not the best, but worked out OK. Site was behind the main y coming in to camp, so lots of traffic. Other than that, nothing to complain about. Nice pool, friendly staff.

      Mm

It’s a nice beach. Bathrooms are nice, they need some decor to make it homey. We have a 30 foot camper and the site we were on, let’s just say we had a hell of a time backing up and smashed one of our back windows in the truck that’s how tight it was. D would have been allot better. Beautiful here but not sure we will come back

Beautiful campground very close to Lake MI

Very nice campground on Lake MI. This campground has it all-wooded sites, sites in the full sun, Teepee, and large ADA cabin. Laundry, nice nature center. Couple of complaints: 1) bathrooms were cleaned/closed daily from 10 am—11:30- which is the strangest and busiest time for use. Very inconvenient. 2) Both DNR and camp hosts seemed to be over the top policing only 2 cars per site, had to park with at least 2 tires on the asphalt, and they even hassled us about a truck with a tent in the back they considered a “camping unit”-they only allowed 1 “unit” per campsite (we had a small pull behind). In 6 days, we experienced at least 4 visits complaining about a different thing each day. Due to this-4 stars instead of 5. Beach beautiful and sunrises over lake fantastic.

Great first camping experience with my friends!

Great campground! It was my first time camping with my friends and we all enjoyed our stay here. Campsites were spacious and well maintained. Came with a table and a fire pit. There were clean bathrooms with shower facilities. In comparison to Chicago's Lake Michigan, the water up here was a lot cleaner so we didn't feel gross after swimming. There was a nice lake and a dock for fishing, which we loved!

      Beautiful and Quiet

Awesome campground! We stayed here for 2 weeks in our 2021 Keystone Hideout 250BH. They don't have a ton of sites and they are reserve only. The weekdays are extremely quiet but the weekends get a little busy due to the seasonal sites.

The sites are electric/water and they do have a dump station very close by. The central pond and waterfall were awesome!

As far as amenities - the bathrooms/showers were very clean and well kept. They also had laundry services! Mowing day is on Thursdays!

The only negative with our stay (which the campground can't help) were the mosquitos, flies, and bees. So bring bug spray!!!

There are several things to do - hiking, biking, caves, Lake Michigan, etc.

The New Hope Cave is only open to tour 1 weekend of the month. It is usually the 3rd Saturday of the month but there were scheduling conflicts and it was open on the 2nd Saturday in August so we weren't able to tour. We were still able to visit the other caves and walk around and look at wildlife. If you go when it is raining you won't be able to go in many of the caves as they become flooded but it does make some really cool waterfalls! The Manitowoc Breakwater Lighthouse is on Lake Michigan about 30 minutes away from the campground but we definitely recommend going to see it!  We would definitely stay here again!

      Door county get away

We showed up late Friday due to some issues with our pop up. The lady called and asked when we were arriving that was so nice. The campsites are tightly packed but luckily we got a nice wide open one right next to the perfectly cleaned bathrooms and showers. I loved that they have a social gathering spot with movies and djs. The pool is small but clean they have a nice 1 foot deep separate pool for the little kids. Everyone was pretty much nice we only had one lady come scold us cause our dog slipped out of his harness for a few minutes she was right on top of us lol. It’s located close to downtown sturgeon bay which was nice! We had lunch at Mary’s on the beach and the crabcakes were awesome. Our waitress was too cool and when my fiancé told her my drink had no booze she promptly brought me a new one with a lot of liquor lol. Wood nearby at houses on the side of the road. Would definitely go back!

      Peaceful

Peaceful quiet campground with a nice pool, well stocked fishing pond for catch and release. Only downside, there is nothing to do at this campground, and you have to drive 30 minutes to the city. Close enough to Lambeau Field for you Packer fans.

      Lives up to the hype!

Even with a significant amount of rain we loved every minute at this campground. We snagged a cancellation a month prior so being picky with site was not an option. Regardless, we were not disappointed. Huge site, close to the bathrooms (clean with hot water) and water, and easy access by bike to the trails.

      Bizarre Experience

This was the strangest camping experience I've ever had. It was early June and there were maybe two or three other sites set up in the entire campground. I made my reservations online for a tent site and nothing indicated that the site I selected was an overflow site. These "overflow" sites were scantly numbered, and there were fewer fire pits and picnic tables than indicated online. All of these tent sites were scattered in a grass field among the frisbee golf. We were glad no one was playing frisbee golf because it was intermixed with where the tents would be, so people would be getting hit with frisbees.

My friend and I pitched our tent closest to the bathroom because we could not find the actual spot we reserved online. We could not find anyone to ask about our site other than the waitresses at the restaurant who were very busy. We ate at the restaurant too and were unimpressed. Unless you get the day's special, it is very overpriced and the portions are small.

The bathrooms were clean (because no one else was at the campground), but there was no drinking water. We were on a bike tour and had to bike over 10 miles in the morning to find some good drinking water. I don't believe I paid $25 for something that was barely a campsite and had no drinking water.

I might of enjoyed it more if I had time to explore the area and the tower, but just dropping in for the night was not a great experience. It felt the campground only came to be because somebody wanted to open a restaurant and his buddy thought it would be a genius idea to let people camp there too.

      Good, but needs some work

This is a great campground for families with RVs. We stayed in summer of ‘20 and loved it, came back in ‘21 and enjoyed it. Biggest attraction of 3 pools and a water slide were down to 1 pool and the splash pad, which meant crowded pool. Like many things during COVID, delays or back ordered repair supplies are impacting the campground. That said, this is still a great KOA with some full hookups and some w/e. Showers and laundry $$ facilities available. The full hook up pull through are awesome sites- easy in and out, but there are only 6 so book early. We stayed in site 198 last year, and it was a nice wooded site but right on top of neighbors. This year we had 49, which had more open space and some shade for one big tree. This is a very dog friendly campground with a big fenced in dog run and lots of rooms for walks. There’s a bar and restaurant, but with so many great places to go in Door Co I’d skip eating there and enjoy the area. They have 2 tent sites, but these are in an open field with no privacy. I’d pass on sites 95-98 and 133-136 as they back up to the pavilion and offer no privacy. If you’re looking for wooded sites with privacy stick to the sites north of the pools. If you’re looking for open sites for a group of campers, the south part of the campground should suit you.

      Cabin Camping for the Family

I decided to give this campsite a try to get some of my family members ate not up for tent camping. With real beds, running water and AC I figured that this would do the trick.

The cabin itself was roomy enough for five with a bunk bed, queen bed and sofa bed. Any more than that would get a little tight.

Amenities: Camp store, mini golf, three swimming pools, trails, basketball court, volleyball court, snack bar, and saloon. My kids had a blast so I would really recommend for a family who wanted to some form of cabin camping. Oh, there were goats as well!

I love campfire cooking which I was able to since there was a fire pit out back.

Also, this place has activities for family members, even a movie night. I saw groups of kids playing basketball or just hanging out and having fun. Oh, and there’s an arcade. At the saloon there was a karaoke night.

If you are more of a traditionalist then you may not like this type of camping. But, if you want to get out for the weekend with you family for a family oriented atypical getaway then this is for you!

      We’ll be back.

Great camp with awesome lake access

The interior sites are a little cramped and may not accommodate larger RVs; however, the access to Lake Michigan more than makes up for it. There is a really cool dog park on the beach. While not something I typically look for in a review, the dump sites are new and excellent.

      Great Beach Park Stay

With the recent popularity of camping most of the weekend dates are well booked out but our family was able to take some time off during the week for a two night stay here at Kohler Andrae State Park. This meant the park was only 50-60% full during our stay which was nice and relaxing. Was easy access into the park and to find our site. Sites are well spaced out and a big size. A lot of great hiking trails to walk around on and explore the park. The beach front stretches the whole park length with lots of room to spread out and explore. Beach quality is excellent and tranquil! Easy access to dump station that has been recently done which made it easy when we were leaving. Our young kids enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.

      Nice Campsite

We were lucky enough to camp a few nights here in 2018. I can't say anything negative about the campground. Our site was large, and it had some trees that acted as natural dividers. The camp featured a nature center, and there was walkways near the lake. The beach section was nicely maintained too. I would've loved staying a few more nights.

Gorgeous and you can hear the waves as you go to sleep!

This park is amazing- the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because the camp sites are a bit close. If you don't mind getting to know all the campers around you, then this shouldn't bother you. Bathrooms are clean, trails are obviously cared for. The beach is vast and clean, with gorgeous dunes leading to the water. Outdoor showers available for when you are done. We have already booked a trip for next summer to experience in the warm weather.
