    Coyote Run RV Park

    Great place for a night

I was skeptical about this place because it is part of an RV storage area and very close to the highway. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It is very well maintained, very neat, irrigated grass for each site. The campground is one loop with back in sites on the perimeter and pull-through sites on the "infield." I had a pull through site that was easy to navigate. Hookups are well maintained. Good Verizon cell service (3 bars). Many long term residents but with well-kept rigs. The town is sleepy at best! Be aware that on Sundays, every restaurant is closed! There is road noise audible inside the rig from accelerating/decelerating trucks but not awful. I did not look at the bathrooms and laundry but they looked very nice.

    Mardon Resort

    Convenient but Crowded

This was our first visit to an RV “resort” and it wasn’t horrible. MarDon has lots of nice amenities but boy is it crowded. If you don’t mind crowds and like the convenience of resort camping MarDon is a good choice.

(Disclaimer: I prefer boondocking and getting as far away from people as possible, so read this review with that in mind.)

MarDon Resort sits on Potholes Reservoir about 16 miles southwest of Moses Lake. The reservoir is massive and offers excellent fishing and water sports. Central Washington gets dry and hot in the summer so come prepared.

The Resort has been around since the 1970s and offers a lot of amenities: full hookup sites, tent sites, monthly rates, marina, restaurant & bar, swimming beach, mini golf, boat & golf cart rentals and more.

    Pier 4 RV Resort

    Simple, by the water

Moses Lake is an interesting little spot though I can’t say there’s anything that stands out to me particularly as “must see”. Recreation area right next-door offers the typical family-friendly water access, picnic tables, play structure and frisbee golf course

Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park Campground

    An interesting visit

I stopped by the Ginkgo Petrified Forest on the way back to Seattle from Moses Lake. The Columbia River, if you have never seen it, is an astounding site as you round the highway curve and it suddenly sprawns across the horizon- and as you eye follows the road, you realize how tiny those cars going across the bridge look!

Then, I stopped at the park, took the educational hikING trail that highlights various species of trees petrified and preserved below the trail level. They are protected under metal grills, which still allow for viewing and pictures.

The building houses an interesting collection of rocks- petrified, sedimentary, igneous, even meteorite chunks. Interesting are the "picture" rocks that have naturally formed images that the human eye and mind reinterprets into recognizable pictures.

The Ranger on duty was originally from Grays Harbor, where one of my favorite state parks is- Grayland Beach- but also as low employment, so it was a nice discussion of how becoming a ranger had allowed her to move out and see a lot more of the state. I had a great visit.

The cliffs on the other side of the river make a great observation point, and are covered with signs advising to watch out for rattlesnakes- but I never saw one.

    Douglas Creek

    Hidden Suprise

Arrived around 2pm to the Douglas Creek Trailhead. The 8 miles of road H to get to Douglas Creek Rec area is gravel, primitive -no signs. Hiked the canyon for ~3miles. Lots of groundhogs and birds. Campsites are roughly half mile from the parking lot for hiking. The gravel road here is much narrower, and has more aggressive rocks/stones. Between the parking lot and campsites several large puddles/ponds took over the road. Campsites have pull throughs for RV’s. I chose the third site I saw, steep downhill to the fire pit, but close walk to the creek. The grounds are minimal, no services (no toilets, picnic tables, hookups, trash bins etc). Had no cell service. Weather was in the upper 60’s, no clouds. Perfect getaway.
