Best Cabin Camping near Nassawadox, VA

Cabin accommodations near Nassawadox, Virginia range from rustic to fully furnished options at several waterfront state parks and private campgrounds. Kiptopeke State Park Campground offers cabins with queen beds and bunk beds, full kitchens with cooking supplies, and private decks with outdoor grills. Sun Outdoors Cape Charles (formerly Cherrystone Family Camping Resort) provides cabin rentals with electricity, air conditioning, and proximity to Chesapeake Bay. "The cottage is furnished, has a queen size bed and 2 sets of bunk beds; nice living room/dining room combo, full kitchen with dishes, pots, etc.; TV; fireplace; outside deck with grill; and screen porch," noted one visitor about their stay at First Landing State Park. Thousand Trails Virginia Landing in Quinby also offers cabin accommodations with varying amenities.

Rustic log cabins and more deluxe cottage options are available depending on the location. First Landing State Park Campground maintains cabins year-round, while Virginia Landing operates seasonally from April through October. Most cabin sites include picnic tables, fire rings, and access to bathhouses with showers. Pet policies vary by location—Williamsburg Campground allows pets in some cabins but restricts certain breeds. A camper described their experience: "We stayed in Cabin 1 for one night to break up our travels. It had the cleanest bathrooms and showers I've ever come across in a campground. The door to the bunk room allowed us to tuck our toddler in early and keep her undisturbed."

Most cabins provide beds with mattresses but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary significantly—premium cabins typically include refrigerators, microwaves, stovetops, and basic cookware, while rustic options may only offer outdoor cooking facilities. Campground stores at locations like Sun Outdoors Cape Charles and Virginia Beach KOA stock essential supplies, though selection is limited. Larger grocery stores require driving 20-30 minutes from most campgrounds. Visitors staying at Kiptopeke or First Landing should consider bringing additional supplies as nearby shopping options are limited, especially during off-season periods.

The cottage is furnished, has a queen size bed and 2 sets of bunk beds; nice living room/dining room combo, full kitchen with dishes, pots, etc.; TV; fireplace; outside deck with grill; and screen porch. There is also a firepit for enjoying the relaxing fire and evening quiet. You have to bring your own firewood. There is a grocery store about 6 minutes away for convenience. Trails, access to the Chesapeake Bay, Spanish moss. manned Visitor Center, privacy and security.

    Jellystone Park™ Chincoteague Island

    Location trumps privacy

We don’t always pick campgrounds for their spacious sites and scenic views. BUT we do pick them based on the outdoor activities we can do from the campground itself via bike riding or walking. Since we don’t bring a car location is very important to us.

This private campground is in a fantastic location. Waking distance to stores, water slide park, kayaking, fishing/crabbing from bridges and Biking distance to Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge & Assateague Island National Seashore . There is even a complimentary trolley that will take you to the beach during the “in season”.

You can rent kayaks and bikes from this resort. There is a pool, jumping pillow, and playground. The water park adjacent cost an additional fee. They have 3 day passes and after 3pm packages. (You May also get a discount from KOA front desk)

The campground- tight and efficient with a lot of options for staying here from little cabins safari style tent cabins, rental Rv’s, grassy tent area to full hook up rv sites. We had a premium RV site and since we were here off season in late April- the campground was not super busy. Just expect that you will be in very close proximity of your neighbors and it will be loud and boisterous in the evening. Our solution?? Hike and Bike all day so you are exhausted. That way after dinner and a couple of glasses of wine... you really don’t care.

We came here specifically to experience the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and Assateague Island VA National Seashore and the parks did not disappoint. We biked and hiked the the parks but you can easily enjoy a lot of the sites via car. Just know that pets are NOT allowed. There are Ubers in this area. Here is a link to the trail and park map.
    https://www.fws.gov/uploadedFiles/Region_5/NWRS/South_Zone/Chincoteague_Complex/Chincoteague/Chincoteague%20Refuge%20Trail%20Map%20(1).pdf

There is a fee of $10 per car for 7 day pass. Bikers and Pedestrians get in free. (The fee gets you into both parks).

    Happy Camping! Pamela and Keith

    Milburn Landing Campground

    A quiet and small campground

Pocomoke river state park offers two campgrounds smaller of these is Milburn landing which is significantly farther from the coastal attractions then the larger Shad Landing. It offers level sites with gravel pads, picnic table, and lantern stand, and fire ring nestled beneath tall pines; some also offer electric, but not sewer connections. A centrally located bathroom is clean with showers and includes a dishwashing sink. Verizon cell coverage was poor.  There are also a few rustic cabins if you don't have a tent iorwould rather have a more secure place to sleep.

There's a soft launch spot for canoes and kayaks near the cabins, but no swimming due to water hazards. An official boat ramp is down a road across from the campground entrance.

There's no camp store on location, but Pocomoke City, with it's big box stores, is nearby if you've forgotten anything.

It's a quieter experience here with fewer amenities, but nice if you want to get away and boat, fish, or explore. If you're looking to explore Assateague or Chincoteague, you will find the Shad Landing section of Pocomoke River is more convenient.

    Kiptopeke State Park Campground

    Awesome Yurt Camping

This was our first time staying in a yurt at Kiptopeake State Park. We love staying in the yurts at Virginia State Parks because they are always an affordable, easy way to camping without having to set up a tent or spend the extra money for a cabin. The ones at here are $75/night. This one was awesome! It is hidden down a long walkway from the parking area and is very secluded. The one we stayed in, Yurt 4, only has neighbors on one side. It comes with two picnic tables, a water spigot, fire pit, grill, a big deck around the yurt with rocking chairs, and a refreshing breeze coming off the bay. Unfortunately, the way the yurt is situated, none of that breeze gets inside the yurt and it was very hot inside. Especially if staying here in the summer, I would suggest bringing some fans or a portable a/c for a more comfortable nights sleep. The bathrooms are farther away than I would like with little kids. You have to walk through to the tent campground loop to get to them. Even with a couple negative things about it, I think this is the way to stay here at Kiptopeake and I am already planning our next yurt trip here for next year!

Love this park so much! The beach is amazing. This time we discovered the dog-friendly beach, which was less crowded than the main one. I always like to go out and watch the sunset over the bay, it is magical!

Point Lookout State Park - Temporarily Closed

    Great State Park in SoMD

Just got back from a weekend trip there. It was a great State Park with fishing, trails, and boat docks. We stayed in the hoffman loop in our 20 ft TT. That loop was pet friendly, shaded, and right next to the playground.

The most sites were off the road and secluded. Ours was a little over grown and not a straight shot to the landing pad. Fire wood was well seasoned for $6/bx and ice $3/bg at the camp store.

    Belle Isle State Park Campground

    BELLE ISLE STATE PARK

First time staying in a travel trailer at a state park. We booked the day of, because we were being indecisive, and there were a few spots available.

We came in after hours, and the guide at the entrance told us where to get our packet (from the kiosk in front of the camp store).

It’s very easy to find everything here, and the camp ground had both pull-throughs and back in spots. Plenty of separation between you and your neighbor for some privacy. No issues with the water/electric/dump station. Almost no cell service to speak of, but that’s the beauty of going to a place like this. Very kid and pet friendly. The community showers and bathrooms are very clean.

Lots of bugs and mosquitos. Plan accordingly.

Both the visitor center and camp store have plenty of souvenirs, but not much besides that. Just know, if you don’t plan well enough to bring something, you’ll be traveling 20-30 min out of your way to reach anything besides a gas station (nearest grocery store/Walmart is 25 min away).

Overall, it was a great first experience in our RV at this state park!

    Fort Eustis Recreation Area

    Excellent Bargain

    Season: year round

    Reservations: 757-878-2610 or 2565

    Pets: Leashed

    Sites: 9 $20.00 with w/e/s

    Cabins: 5 $75.00 daily

Picnic table, grill, playground, bowling, paintball, tennis, propane, water, electric, trash, laundry, showers, fishing

It was as if they have two sections in the campground. One section seems to have long term and then the section where the 9 sites are is nice and open with many mature trees. There is nice separation between sites. I loved the area but I am a country girl at heart. Nice to be in the heart of the military. BTW"GREAT" Military Transportation Museum. The commissary is fantastic, didn't go to the PX.

Guide to Nassawadox

Cabin accommodations near Nassawadox occupy a unique position on Virginia's Eastern Shore peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, with most sites situated at elevations under 50 feet above sea level. The region experiences mild winters with average lows around 30°F and humid summers reaching highs in the 80s. Several campgrounds operate seasonally from April through November due to winter weather conditions and facility maintenance schedules.

What to do

Water activities at Cape Charles: Chesapeake Bay offers calm water access at Sun Outdoors Cape Charles with multiple water recreation options. "This campground is well run and kept clean. The beaches are beautiful. The pools are fun for all ages and clean," notes Julin S. Visitors can rent boats or try crabbing from piers. "We have a blast every time we come here... They also offer on site charters and sunset cruises for a cheap price," adds Melissa P.

Hiking and nature viewing: First Landing State Park Campground maintains year-round hiking trails with boardwalks through diverse ecosystems. "The campground provided opportunities for exploration and outdoor activities that kept our kids entertained throughout our three night stay," explains Jason G. about Virginia Landing. The park has wide-open spaces for kids to roam freely and engage in activities like clamming and kite flying.

Fishing from established piers: Several waterfront cabin properties provide fishing access without requiring boat rental. "The sunset over the old pier is breathtaking. I hope they rebuild the pier. My kids loved catching tiny crabs in the mud every night," shares Angelica K. about their Virginia Landing experience. Species commonly caught include spot, croaker, and blue crabs depending on season.

What campers like

Diverse accommodation options: Kiptopeke State Park Campground provides cabin options with varying levels of amenities. "Camp hosts were amazing and always checked on us but not overbearing. Gave advice for the park and we appreciated it," reports Joseph H. Some cabins feature full kitchens, while others focus on more rustic experiences.

Proximity to local towns: Cabins provide access to nearby communities with additional services. "If you venture into Cape Charles, it's a neat town with some good restaurant options," recommends Melissa P. Most cabin properties sit within 10-30 minutes of small towns with basic supplies and dining.

Cleanliness of facilities: Holiday Trav-L-Park maintains clean bathhouses and cabin interiors according to guest reports. "The bathrooms and shower houses are always very clean as well as the cabins," notes John H. Most properties clean cabins between guest stays and maintain regular bathroom cleaning schedules during peak season.

What you should know

Supplies and shopping: Most cabin areas have limited nearby shopping, requiring advance planning. "This place is very isolated, make sure you have everything you need, it's a 30 minute drive to the Walmart," advises Sean R. about Thousand Trails Virginia Landing. Cabin guests should bring essential supplies as local options may close early or have limited selection.

Insect activity varies by season: Bug activity intensifies during summer months in coastal areas. "The bugs can be friendly at times," mentions Sean R. Biting flies become more active during warmer seasons, particularly near water at dawn and dusk. Bring effective repellent with DEET or picaridin for outdoor activities.

Reservation requirements: Most cabin properties require advance booking, especially during peak summer months. "We went for a Halloween weekend, big campground, lots of spots, some of which are a little too close together. Zero shade, make sure you have your awning and/or extra tents," shares Erin W. about Cape Charles KOA. Weekend availability becomes limited 2-3 months in advance for summer dates.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple cabin properties maintain play areas for children with varying equipment quality. "My boys love the jump pads, pools and paddle boats. As a family we enjoy the fishing piers, new beach and cafe," says Beth F. about Sun Outdoors Cape Charles. Some facilities have multiple playground areas distributed throughout the property.

Kid-friendly activities: Most properties program family activities during summer months. "There is mini golf, volley ball, fishing, and a playground for the kids," describes Delores T. about her Virginia Landing stay. Activity schedules typically run Thursday through Sunday during peak season with fewer options mid-week.

Site selection for families: Cabin placement affects noise levels and privacy. "Being that we knew nothing about trailer camping and basically showed up without anything we needed, the staff and community made it one of the greatest memories for our family," shares TJ M. about Cape Charles KOA. Corner or end sites typically provide more space for family activities.

Tips from RVers

Site layout considerations: RV cabin sites vary significantly in size and arrangement. "The campground had a spacious layout that allowed for easy RV maneuvering. Whether you're a seasoned RV enthusiast or a camper just starting out, you'll appreciate the space," notes Jason G. about Virginia Landing. Most properties offer 30/50-amp service, but water and sewer connections vary by location.

Seasonal availability: Many cabin properties limit services during off-season periods. "We stayed during Memorial Day weekend last year and had a fantastic time! The only thing that I didn't like was lack of regulating sound ordnances late at night when people lap the campground in their golf carts blasting country music," mentions Ashley R. about Holiday Trav-L-Park. Some facilities close entirely during winter months while others operate with reduced amenities.
