Several full-service RV parks operate within 30 miles of Onemo, Virginia, offering both waterfront and inland camping options. Bethpage Camp-Resort in Urbanna provides spacious full hookup sites with 50-amp service and dual sewer connections to accommodate large motorhomes and fifth wheels. "Sites are spacious and always clean when we arrive," noted one camper about the well-maintained grounds. Grey's Point Camp in Topping features big-rig friendly sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups, while Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay in Reedville remains open year-round with similar amenities. New Point RV Resort offers water and electrical connections but operates seasonally from April through early November, closing during winter months.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer weekends and holiday periods when waterfront campgrounds fill quickly. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region with reviewers reporting spotty coverage at several parks. Most facilities provide sanitary dump stations, though some seasonal campers note that weekend bathroom facilities can become crowded during peak season. The Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay provide scenic backdrops for many RV sites, but coastal locations may experience strong winds. Propane fill services aren't commonly available on-site, so travelers should plan accordingly. Many parks accommodate pets with designated walking areas, though specific breed restrictions may apply at certain locations.

      Belle Isle State Park Campground

      BELLE ISLE STATE PARK

First time staying in a travel trailer at a state park. We booked the day of, because we were being indecisive, and there were a few spots available.

We came in after hours, and the guide at the entrance told us where to get our packet (from the kiosk in front of the camp store).

It’s very easy to find everything here, and the camp ground had both pull-throughs and back in spots. Plenty of separation between you and your neighbor for some privacy. No issues with the water/electric/dump station. Almost no cell service to speak of, but that’s the beauty of going to a place like this. Very kid and pet friendly. The community showers and bathrooms are very clean.

Lots of bugs and mosquitos. Plan accordingly.

Both the visitor center and camp store have plenty of souvenirs, but not much besides that. Just know, if you don’t plan well enough to bring something, you’ll be traveling 20-30 min out of your way to reach anything besides a gas station (nearest grocery store/Walmart is 25 min away).

Overall, it was a great first experience in our RV at this state park!

      American Heritage RV Park

Cannot Recommend for Big Rigs or Groups

We recently brought a group of ten campers to American Heritage RV Park because several of us had stayed there before and remembered it as a clean, well-kept park. Based on those positive experiences, we recommended it to our group and looked forward to sharing the campground with them. Unfortunately, this stay did not meet our expectations. Because sites are not assigned in advance, we could not choose sites that worked well for our group. Our 42-foot fifth wheel was placed in back-in site#136, which— like the other back-in sites— has a tree planted at the rear that prevents fully backing in. This left us very close to the road, with no way to park in front and no room to park alongside without blocking our steps. We first parked across the road in a grassy area but were told to move. When we parked in another group member’s pull-through site, we received a call saying two vehicles were not allowed— even though we observed several sites with two vehicles. The office directed us to the overflow lot near the front of the park, the farthest point from our site on the back row. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told she works off-site. I emailed her asking her to visit our site, but she never responded. We were also told we could not put up a dog fence that extended onto the grass, though this rule was not posted anywhere. When booking months in advance, we requested that our sites be grouped near a cabin for one of our members— an 86-year-old woman in a wheelchair who requires oxygen. She was placed first in Cabin 5, then moved to Cabin 8 after a request for a larger and closer cabin. The second cabin was still far from our sites, down a hill and facing the woods in an unlit area, making it hazardous to reach at night, expecially for her. We also saw another camper with a rig identical to ours struggle to get into a back-in site, ultimately hitting a water faucet across the road, leaving the park without water for over two hours. These sites are simply not suitable for big rigs. While the park is clean, our overall experience was frustrating. Guests who book early, provide rig sizes, and pay for extended stays should reasonably expect sites that accommodate their camper and tow vehicle, and that group requests would be honored when possible. Large rigs should be cautious— the back-in sites are tight and maneuvering is difficult. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I cannot recommend American Heritage RV Park.

Point Lookout State Park - Temporarily Closed

      5 stars! Beautiful, clean, magical

Magical stay at Point Lookout — New Tulip Loop (Full Hook‑Up) and I’m already planning a return. The whole park feels peaceful and safe, the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and our site is clean and well‑maintained. The loop’s energy felt magical — quiet, restorative, and tucked into the trees so it felt private but not isolated. Full hookups were convenient and reliable; the site layout is roomy and pet‑friendly, with an easy walk to a beautiful dog beach so our pup had a blast. We walked to stunning beaches and spent afternoons watching water and sky at the tip of the peninsula — spectacular views where the Potomac meets the Chesapeake. The park’s Civil War history and lighthouse added fascinating, walkable sites to explore between beach time, giving the stay both recreation and depth. Clean facilities, helpful staff at the park office, and well-marked trails made everything low‑stress and enjoyable. If you want a peaceful, historic, pet‑friendly Class A spot with full hookups and gorgeous nearby beaches, Tulip Loop at Point Lookout is five stars from me.

      Fort Eustis Recreation Area

      Excellent Bargain

      Season: year round

      Reservations: 757-878-2610 or 2565

      Pets: Leashed

      Sites: 9 $20.00 with w/e/s

      Cabins: 5 $75.00 daily

Picnic table, grill, playground, bowling, paintball, tennis, propane, water, electric, trash, laundry, showers, fishing

It was as if they have two sections in the campground. One section seems to have long term and then the section where the 9 sites are is nice and open with many mature trees. There is nice separation between sites. I loved the area but I am a country girl at heart. Nice to be in the heart of the military. BTW"GREAT" Military Transportation Museum. The commissary is fantastic, didn't go to the PX.

The Colonies RV and Travel Park

      Historic

Sites: 22 with 1 pull thru 13 full hookups 12 Tent sites

      Electric: 30-50 amp

This is a private campground and you do not have to be military to stay. It really is in a great location.

Beach, dump, firewood, showers, fire pit, store, ice picnic table, playground, toilets, concrete pads, horseshoes, trash. A wonderful spot for a campground on the Historic Fort Monroe. There is no gate to have to pass through to reach the campground. It is located on the far end and on a beautiful flat grassy area with beautiful mature trees. Well maintained and very quiet. While there you must check out the Fort Monroe Casement Museum. You have water on two sides with excellent walking area.

      American Heritage RV Park

Good location with lots to do within an hour's drive

Usually when we go out with our trailer, the campground is basically the "destination." In this case, the campground was a place to park our "mobile motel room" so we could explore the area and do a day trip to the beach.

This was our first time staying where full hookups were standard, and we had a pull-through site on a level concrete pad. A picnic table was provided, and a metal "fire pit" will be delivered to your site if requested.

There was decent space between the sites, though of course not like what you find at a state park! But speaking of which, American Heritage RV Park is just 4 miles from York River State Park. After getting set up, we went there and we highly recommend it for nature lovers.

The campground is also close to Colonial Williamsburg, and a little over an hour away (depending on traffic) from Virginia Beach and First Landing State Park.

The bathrooms were clean, showers had hot water, and the campground was very quiet. A train comes through the area a couple of times a day (and night), but we didn't find that to be a problem.

It's close to I-64 (easy on/off) and easy to find, though the actual road INTO the campground is pretty narrow.

We chose to stay here instead of one of the campgrounds in VA Beach just because traffic in and around VA Beach is crazy. Seriously. I felt much better about just driving there with my car instead of towing the trailer through that mess.

We didn't check out the pool, but it seemed nice and we saw people swimming. Some folks we met said they'd been at the campground a week.

Be sure to ask about AARP, Good Sam, AAA, or other memberships you have because they'll give a 10% discount when you check in. We had good cell service on AT&T and Sprint networks.

While it was the most expensive place we've stayed so far, compared to an oceanfront motel room at VA Beach during peak season, it was a very good deal. We'll probably stay here again in the future.

More about this trip (and all we did in 2 days!!) is on my blog:

    Guide to Onemo

Onemo, Virginia sits on the Middle Peninsula, surrounded by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay with elevations rarely exceeding 10 feet above sea level. The coastal climate brings humid summers with temperatures averaging in the mid-80s and mild winters. Camping options near Onemo include a mix of waterfront and wooded settings, with most rv sites near Onemo, Virginia operating seasonally from April through October.

    What to do

Boating and fishing access: At Thousand Trails Virginia Landing, campers can enjoy direct water access. "The sunset over the old pier is breathtaking. I hope they rebuild the pier. My kids loved catching tiny crabs in the mud every night," noted one visitor about the recreational opportunities along the shoreline.

Historical exploration: Located approximately 70 miles from Onemo, Military Park Cheatham Annex provides a convenient base for exploring the region's colonial history. "This is an amazing recreational campground for military families and retirees that is located right on the York River between Williamsburg and Yorktown. It is immediately adjacent to the Colonial Parkway for easy access to historic Jamestown as well," explains one camper.

Beach activities: The Colonies RV Park offers direct beach access with minimal walking distance. "The campground is awesome. Beach is a short walk, but what they don't tell you is that there's a club on the beach. So be warned- it's a bit noisy. Sunday nights are the loudest, but they quiet enough for bed time," advises a camper about the local conditions.

    What campers like

Waterfront views: Many camping areas near Onemo feature water views. At Thousand Trails Virginia Landing, the scenery gets high marks. "The campground provided opportunities for exploration and outdoor activities that kept our kids entertained throughout our three night stay. The park is wide-open, which provided plenty of space for kids to roam and explore," reports one family.

Spacious sites: Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay offers full hookup sites with room to spread out. "Level sites and they all have full hookups. T-mobile gateway internet sucks here, but Starlink works well from the site we are in," notes a recent visitor about the site conditions.

Quiet atmosphere: Many camping areas around Onemo maintain a peaceful environment away from urban noise. "This is a nice relaxing campground. Seasonal. Very quiet at night and activities on weekends," observes a camper at New Point RV Resort, highlighting the tranquil setting typical of the region.

    What you should know

Cell service challenges: Multiple campgrounds report connectivity issues. At Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay, one visitor notes, "Cellular signal and Starlink won't work well here and the campground WiFi isn't great. But in the true spirit of camping, this is a great place to disconnect."

Weather considerations: Coastal sites can experience strong winds and potential flooding during storms. "We stayed here Sept 2020 during tropical storm and covid. Was a great safe location in port of storm, the sites mostly drained well. Very few sites had issues," reports a camper at Grey's Point Camp.

Seasonal availability: Many campgrounds near Onemo operate on limited schedules. Virginia Landing operates from April through October, and New Point RV Resort closes from November through mid-April. Most waterfront sites book quickly during summer months and holiday weekends.

    Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Bethpage Camp-Resort offers extensive water recreation options. "We loved Bethpage so much we are booked again. Of all the campgrounds we've been to-our kids rate this one as their favorite- it has a great water park, mini golf and flat biking," shares one family about their experience.

Playground options: Many campgrounds provide recreational facilities for children. One visitor to American Heritage RV Park notes, "Nice concrete pad sites with full hookups and shaded by tall pine trees. Quiet and little traffic. Staff and store is nice."

Beach access: Beaches provide natural play areas for children. "This is one of our favorite destinations. The scenery is amazing, especially at dusk and dawn," mentions a visitor to Virginia Landing about the waterfront setting that appeals to families.

    Tips from RVers

Site conditions: American Heritage RV Park provides concrete pads for leveling. "Our site was clean and level. No fire pit or grill, so plan ahead. We went the last weekend the pool was open, which wasn't crowded at all," reports a camper about the site amenities.

Hookup details: At Grey's Point Camp, the hookups accommodate larger rigs. "We had a wonderful time at Grey's Point campground and would love to go again. The had great staff, clean restrooms, and great views of the Rappahannck River," notes a visitor describing their RV camping experience.

Navigation challenges: Some campgrounds have tight access roads. "Roads are tight. Golf carts were difficult to reserve. Golf carts were only available for pickup at 1/2pm the day of your rental," advises an RVer at Bethpage Camp-Resort about transportation within the campground.
