Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Oljato-Monument Valley, UT

What can I say - it was pouring rain and our free, dispersed campground was washed out! We called Gouldings, but they were full. The KOA had a pull thru full hook up site. We are trying to camp on a budget, and at nearly $150 a night, the budget was blown. I do want to say that we really really enjoyed having full hook ups and had a chance to catch up on Laundry, so there’s that. Also, it was very close to Monument Valley and we had fun. We were able to scout out our next camping location as well. The Wi-Fi was down for a while and then it started working. It was not busy in the campground. They had a very nice dog park. All in all, we really liked the park, just not the price!

General: 56-site campground with a mix of 50-amp pull-thru, 30-amp pull-thru, 30-amp back-in, and 30-amp tent/RV sites. All sites have water and electricity. 

Site Quality: All sites are gravel and level. As expected in an RV park, there is no separation/privacy between sites. Our back-in 30-amp site had a picnic table, electricity, and water. However, the picnic table was on the opposite side of the water and electricity, which was confusing. 

Bath/Shower house: Very clean. Nice hot water and pressure in the shower (turn the hot water all the way to the left to get the hot water going).

Activities/Amenities: Dog park, playground, laundry with three washers and three dryers ($4 per load for both which was very reasonable). Although the laundry did say it was open 24/7, when we checked in, the sheet advised us that the last load of laundry had to be in by 7 pm. There is a store open from 8 am– 8 pm. Horse tours can also be booked from the campground. 

We stayed here as we needed to fill up on water and had booked a Monument Valley sunrise tour and the KOA was one of the pick-up sites. We were able to go on our tour and be back before check-out at 11 am. There are nice views from the campground.

We enjoyed our stay at Gooseneck State Park in Utah. $10 per day. Pretty good ATT Service. This is a remote location with no water or hookups. You must be fully contained. There are really no food stores nearby either. We parked right on the edge of the goosenecks and enjoyed the sunset and sunrise. There was plenty to do around here, Valley of the gods, House on Fire, Mexican Hat, Moki Dugway, Muley Point, Monument Valley, Four Corners is an hour away and lastly if you’re feeling ambitious, Canyon De Chelly is 2 Hours away, which did make for a long day. We kept our dogs on a leash because the cliffs of the goosenecks were very scary. I would come back in a heartbeat!

This is easily one of my favorite places in the Southwest. Just beautiful and rarely anyone here. Yes there can be wind but nothing terrible. I've camped here in a tent maybe 10 times and never an issue that bothered me. THE KEY is the drive off road AROUND the edge of the canyon away from the official campground. Plenty of space and you camp right on the edge of the canyon. Incredible views and experience. Just watch where you are walking at night :)  I almost hate leaving this review because I really don't want more people to find out about this place.

The title says it all. This campground sure features amazing views but the wind was killing me. I would NOT recommend it for tent camping, but you would probably be more comfortable in an RV or a van. The wind was going from zero to 25pmh several times both nights i was there, and it was particularly windy during the sunsets which made eating outside impossible (sort of defeats the purpose). The site is super exposed - no trees, boulders or anything to hide from the wind, or sun for that matter. Also, not sure why the description says 10 sites. There’s way more - they let people just camp anywhere along the rim. There was probably over 50 campers there. On the positive side - lots of activities close by. On the negative side, besides the wind, some rude behavior… dog poop in a bunch of places that people didn’t bother picking up. Seems to always be the case wherever dogs are allowed, sigh. Flying drones despite the sign saying no drones…

This review is for the campground. Total of 23 campsites in two loops. The 8 sites in loop A are for tenters and van campers...there is a vehicle length restriction posted. Loop B has 15 sites that are designed for larger campers, trailers and RVs. Scattered water spigots, vault toilets at both loops and a trash dumpster at entrance by the boat ramp area. 15$ nite for camping. 14 day limit. Sites are tucked into cottonwood trees and the San Juan River is close adjacent. In addition there are two group camping sites close to the boat ramp area. This seems to be the put in for floating the San Juan River down to??. Only issue and reason for only 4 stars was the constant truck traffic noise heard in Loop B due to the hwy 191 bridge close by.

Goosenecks State Park is better than Horshoe Bend at Page. You get to walk around at the edge of the cliffs. There are actually more bends here as the name Goosenecks states, On the right are some campsites on the edge with picnic tables On the left are some more civilized sites away from the cliffs with some more right on the edge. There is a double sided outhouse at the beginning of the campground. I was charged a nightly fee but technically I was outside the State Park and on BLM land. There are many sights outside the park. I supported them anyway. If you wait till after 5 pm there isn't anyone there to make you pay. Camp fires are allowed. There is NO water here. You need to bring all that in. The closest town is Mexican Hat to the south and Bluff to the north.

Just a beautiful area to rest and relax and plenty to see in the surrounding area.
