North Fork County Park stands as one of the highest-rated campgrounds near Ogden, Utah, maintaining an impressive 4.94/5 rating from campers. Located in Eden at approximately 6,000 feet elevation, the area features wooded sites along the South Fork of the Ogden River. Temperatures drop significantly at night even in summer months, creating perfect conditions for campfires when restrictions aren't in place.
What to do
Mountain biking trails: North Fork County Park offers excellent access to mountain biking routes directly from campsites. "Had a great stay at North Fork. Camped in the canyon near the trailheaad for the waterfall hike. We stayed at campsite 6 which was great, but they were all really nice. Excellent mountain bike trails also. Can't wait to go back and ride more of them," notes Rich J. from North Fork County Park.
River activities: The Ogden River provides cooling relief during hot summer months with opportunities for tubing. At South Fork Campground, visitors enjoy "Access to Ogden River for tubing! Causey and Ouneview very close!" according to camper Barb D. Sites in the teens are closest to the creek for water access.
Fishing spots: Anderson Cove Campground gives anglers access to Pineview Reservoir. Tyler G. reports, "A very clean and very convenient campground. Tons of trails nearby and being on the reservoir is great for hot days. Fishing was a blast! Will definitely be back."
What campers like
Spacious sites: The campgrounds around Ogden offer larger sites than many expect. At Willard Bay State Park, Erin A. appreciates that "The sites are well spaced apart giving plenty of privacy. We didn't have much shade in ours but they provide a ramada on a cement pad over the picnic table which was great. Very spacious pull ins, full hook ups, and a quick trip to the beach."
Wildlife viewing: Antelope Island's White Rock Bay Campground offers unique wildlife encounters. "The campgrounds were very open with not many trees but a great view of the lake. We saw fox that came right up to our tent and lots of bison close by. Quiet place," shares Whitney K.
Family-friendly features: Campgrounds near Ogden include amenities designed specifically for families. Dave D. says North Fork Park has "always been a great family spot to camp. Clean, well taken care of, and for the most part the folks that come up camping there treat it and other campers with respect."
What you should know
Reservation needs: Many Ogden area campgrounds require advance planning. For Anderson Cove, Barb D. advises "You need to reserve sites here well in advance as it fills up for the entire Summer as soon as the reservation window opens."
Bug situations: Be prepared for insects at certain locations and times. At East Canyon State Park, campers encounter challenges with insects during peak summer months. One visitor noted that "There are not any trees in this camp site, so it is really hot. The cows and lambs are all around."
Highway noise: Some campgrounds sit close to major roads. Laura K. shares about Willard Bay State Park: "I-15 noise was horrible, no sleep even with a fan going and earplugs. Bath houses are small and cryptic. But clean."
Tips for camping with families
Waterfall hikes: Take children to accessible waterfall trails from camps. "There's a hidden waterfall you can hike too, and a river runs through the park. It's a must!" recommends Debbie P. about North Fork Park. The trail is manageable for most ages and provides a rewarding destination.
Beach access: Choose sites with sand beaches for children. Whitney K. found Anderson Cove had "a lot of space to be spread out from others. The beach is so large and it's easy to camp out. The sand is soft and fun for the kids to build sand castles."
Playground facilities: Brigham City-Perry South KOA offers developed playground areas. "We had a delightful stay over Memorial Day weekend. Our kids had a blast swimming, playing at the playground and then spending time in the arcade," reports Kristan J.
Tips from RVers
Hookup locations: At Willard Bay State Park, Laura K. advises "note the sewer is toward the back, not the middle so bring lots of sewer hose."
Pull-through access: Certain sites provide easier RV parking. At Brigham City-Perry South KOA, Brian C. found "Flat, level parking spots - many pull-throughs" which made setup much easier, especially for larger rigs.
Winter options: Unlike seasonal glamping near Ogden, Utah, RVers can find year-round camping. James J. explains that East Canyon State Park maintains "neat and clean" facilities with "back-in and mostly flat asphalt" sites that require "A little rig leveling."
