Dry Hollow Campground — Echo State Park

    Right by the lake

We are at a spot that is on a cement loop (#1) which was unlevel and it is not next to the lake but closer to the road (which is not too busy) but a view of the lake. You get a nice covered pavilion with a steel picnic table and fire ring with grate for grilling. The camp host was very sweet. Most of the sites are pull through and accommodates big rigs very well. The park managers keep it clean.

Chokecherry Campground — Deer Creek State Park

    Decent state park

Camped here last minute while driving through. Well-run, easy check in, reasonably priced.

There are both primitive tent and RV sites with hookups. Small to large sites, back-in and a few pull through. Lots of trees and lilac bushes offer some privacy.

Fire rings, plus BBQ grills, picnic tables at each site. Centrally located bathrooms were clean. Water, trash and dump station by entrance.

The campground is on an incline so there are decent views of the reservoir from just about anywhere and the mountain backdrop to the east. Small but clean beach. There was also ziplining and kayak rentals at the state park but both were closed due to COVID.

    Would camp here again.

    Cute little spot

Great amenities, dog park, showers, laundry. Stayed here long term a couple times and it’s always a great stay! Close to the park, splash pad, and track. Hosts are pleasant. A little close together but good for being on base.

    Golden Spike RV Park

Great RV Spot Close to the Interstate

This an wonderful medium sized RV campground that is totally locally owned so you know your stay will go towards benefiting local families!  That and given its proximity to the Interstate make it the closest and easiest RV campground to get to near Brigham City/Perry.  It is a perfect stopping point if you're looking at having all the comforts of home before heading into the mountains or into the towns nearby.  Amenities include a full laundry and bathroom in addition to cable TV and Wi-Fi.  They owners are on the property year round and is a very safe place to stay.  There are 38 sites that have 30 and 50 amp hookup options in addition to water.  Definitely visit this RV campground over the nearby KOA as it supports local businesses!!!

If you want to spend time out in nature there is the nearby Bird Refuge, and Great Salt Lake.  To the north and northwest of here there lies the amazing Devils Playground and the namesake of the campground which is the Golden Spike National Historic Site in which the rail lines from the east and west met.  To the east there are numerous canyons to choose from in case the days are too sweltering hot to stay in the valleys

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

Guide to Centerville

RV sites near Centerville, Utah provide camping options within minutes of the Great Salt Lake. The elevation in this area ranges from 4,200 feet in the valley to over 6,000 feet in nearby mountain campgrounds. Year-round camping is available at several locations, with winter temperatures typically ranging from 20-40°F and summer temperatures from 75-95°F.

What to do

Fishing access: The Weber River offers fishing opportunities near Riverside RV Resort in Ogden. "There is a walking trail that runs along the weber river. It has a walking trail that was so calm and peaceful," notes Amy H. The area provides trout fishing in a convenient location just off the highway.

Biking trails: Nearby paved paths connect to several campgrounds for cycling enthusiasts staying at Pony Express RV Resort. "Easy access to the Jordan River Trail for running, biking, or sunset walks," writes cheriana G. The Jordan River Trail extends 80 miles through the area, allowing campers to ride directly from their sites.

Swimming options: Multiple pools are available for cooling off during hot summer months. Campers at Mountain Valley RV Resort praise the aquatic facilities: "We enjoyed an evening in their hot tub/spa. They also have a large pool area near the bathrooms that were the most well maintained bathrooms we've ever used on the road."

What campers like

Private shower facilities: Many RV parks in the area feature individual bathroom units rather than communal facilities. "Nice bathhouses with private shower/toilets," reports janet H. at Lagoon RV Park & Campground, which offers a convenient location next to the Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington.

Large dog areas: Pet-friendly accommodations include spacious designated dog parks at several locations. A camper at Mountain Shadows RV Park mentions, "Big beautiful dog run area with a waterfall." Most parks require pets to be leashed except in designated exercise areas.

Concrete pads: Level, paved sites are common at RV parks throughout the region. "Spacious RV park with concrete pull-through sites with full hookups including 50-amp service," reports one camper. Another visitor noted, "The sites, streets, and pads, all in excellent condition. Everything looks new."

What you should know

Road and airport noise: Several campgrounds sit near highways and flight paths. A visitor to Riverside RV Resort observed: "The interstate is 20 yards from the first row of sites. It was constant traffic noise 24/7. Sometimes it would slow up a little bit so that you could hear the airplanes flying overhead, or the train going by on the track that are 30 yards away as well."

Seasonal availability: While some parks remain open year-round, others close during winter months. Echo Island RV Resort in Coalville offers extended seasonal camping: "We are new to RBing but very much enjoyed this spot and could see spending time here. Spacious lots- gravel and grass, several pools although only 2 currently open but heated!"

Reservations necessary: Booking well in advance is essential, particularly for weekend stays during peak season. Some parks fill completely on weekends from May through September, with holiday weekends requiring reservations months ahead.

Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and activities: Family-oriented RV sites near Centerville provide structured recreation areas for children. "The playground is clean, a good sized one, but overrun with unsupervised kids," reports one visitor about Pony Express RV Resort, indicating the popularity of these amenities with younger campers.

Proximity to attractions: Families appreciate parks located near entertainment options. At Knotty Pine RV Resort, a parent notes, "We love coming here! We are close to hiking and off-reading without the craziness off Mirror Lake Highway. Also, the kids love the pool and the basketball courts."

Fishing for kids: Some parks offer fishing access suitable for children. "There is a small pond for kids to fish in, two swimming pools and two hot tubs, very clean and modern facilities," writes Carlee G. about Echo Island RV Resort, which provides stocked fishing areas specifically designed for younger anglers.

Tips from RVers

Site width considerations: Many RVers mention the limited space between camping spots at certain parks. "You can't burn firewood but you can have a propane fire pit. The sites are pretty close together so if you like your space, this probably isn't the best place," advises Nicole B. about Pony Express RV Resort.

Pull-through availability: Larger RVs benefit from the numerous pull-through sites available. "Sites are long but very narrow. Less than 3' between our slides and the neighbor's slides," notes one RVer, highlighting the importance of understanding site dimensions when booking.

Laundry facilities: Several parks provide on-site laundry options, though availability varies. "The laundry facilities were nice and even had a designated machine for pet laundry," writes Chris G., providing a helpful tip for RVers traveling with pets who need to maintain clean bedding and towels.
