Best RV Parks & Resorts near Spicewood, TX

Several RV parks operate near Spicewood, offering varied amenities and site configurations. Pace Bend RV Park provides water, electric, and sewer hookups with thirty-amp service, though the park does not accommodate big rigs. Hill Country Lakes RV Campground features full hookup sites with fifty-amp service, gravel pads, and accommodates larger vehicles. "Very nice park with pull through sites. Our site was a bit uneven, so we needed to use leveling blocks," one camper noted about their stay at an area RV park. Cedar Bend RV Park maintains 30 sites with both fifty and thirty-amp electrical connections, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site, with gravel pull-through options for easier access.

Fall brings pleasant temperatures to the area but also increased demand for RV sites, making advance reservations advisable. Most parks in the region remain open year-round with steady cellular service for both Verizon and AT&T users. While some parks near Spicewood feature luxury amenities like swimming pools and recreation areas, others provide more basic services focused on reliable hookups and quiet surroundings. Pet-friendly policies are common, though specific restrictions may apply. Propane refill service is limited, with many RV parks recommending travelers arrive with filled tanks. On-site dump stations are available at most parks, though a visitor commented that "the sewer connection was in good shape but a little closer to the front of the site, so I used two hoses."

    Inks Lake State Park Campground

Great getaway in Texas Hill Country - May 2018

Catching up on my reviews…Inks Lake SP is a superb park about 40 minutes from Austin in the Texas Hill Country.  Great lake with a large no wake zone in one area that makes it very family friendly and paddler friendly.  There are sites away from the NWZ that allow you to ski/tube right from your campsite.  Great choice of flat, easy access spots.  Tent-only spots with only water are available as-well.   Decent hiking and easy biking around the park is available.  The area around Devil's Hole is great for floating about and jumping from the rocks.  Just wish that folks would clean up after themselves better.  Great camp store with lots of products.  Lake was lowered in 2019 to update the docks and boat ramps (very nice now), lake is back to normal seasonal levels.  ILSP is close to Austin, so it stays busy during the season, so reserve well ahead of time.  No Wifi at the campsites, but decent mobile reception (ATT).  30/50 amp and water at most sites.  Fire ring and table on concrete pads at all sites.  Tables are not covered, however.  I've been told that there is Wifi available at the camp store, but I cannot personally verify that.

    Cedar Breaks Park

    Beautiful big sites

The sites are large which means you aren't right on top of your neighbors. Lots of shade. Each site has its own shelter with picnic table, grill and fire pit. Electric and water but no sewer. The sites along the outside of the loop have lake views and are level. The sites along the inside are scary unlevel! Some of the big rigs were backed in and jacked up 4 feet or so in front. Saw a lady break her ankle stepping out of her camper. Be prepared to level your camper! I suggest odd numbers 19-35 and even numbers 36-42 as the most level sites with the best lake views.

The park has hiking trails, boating and swimming access, but none of these are accessed right at the camp area.

Restrooms are very basic with no hot water. They were clean but a little creepy for showers. I used the toilets there during the day and my camper shower and toilet at night.

    Rocky River RV Resort

Beautiful campground for long term residents

RV camper here. I rate campgrounds from the viewpoint of wanting a place for a brief family vacation. When we arrived here we made a reservation online (easy) so that was good. But the woman up front had trouble finding our reservation and was unpleasant (happily we had a screenshot). I think she’s one of the owners. It wasn’t a great way to feel welcomed especially with COVID where most parks have contactless check in anyway. Despite the customer service, the stay was otherwise uneventful.

Good: The park has beautiful river access and was very quiet. Anyone in the area can get the same river access by parking to the side of the bridge over the river on 190 and walking down. Landscaping is beautiful and security is good. Almost every site is a pull through.

Bad: The park is almost entirely full of full time residents with everything from FEMA trailers and 60s era camper vans to new Grand Designs. Lots of sites have permanent structures/trailers/patios and there’s bits of trash in high use areas like around the dumpsters and picnic area. The sites are also gravel and not concrete. Sites are close together.

Neutral: There are some cool looking cabins by the dumpsters. We didn’t go in them though, of course.

Summary: This may be a peaceful option for long term residents but I wouldn’t vacation here if I was looking for a weekend getaway. Average rating.

    Jellystone Park™ Austin North

    Dream campground

Amazing resort. Great monthly rate. They go above and beyond with their amenities providing an indoor play room, full kitchen, business center, etc. Very family friendly resort with plenty of activities planned. Lots of full time families staying here long term which makes for a fun time. The one downside was that we didn’t get the sites that we had put a deposit down for. There seems to be a lot of turnover in the office so when we checked in it wasn’t the same lady who had helped us pick out our sites and reserve them. We travel with my parents and always try to stay next to them but they were unwilling to accommodate that even though they originally told us they would. All in all I do recommend this park for the amazing ambiance and amenities.

The Vineyards of Fredericksburg RV Park

Tight Park in an Open Field

Pros Just 3 miles from the popular downtown shopping district

Level gravel site with mini picnic table and fire ring

Very nice rally hall, group fire pit and group pavilion

Very nice and very clean shower and toilet facilities

Combo code required to access toilets and showers

Majority of sites are pull thru

Just an open field. No shade. This is not even a vineyard!

    Very tight check in parking

Lots and lots of tall speed bumps throughout park

Small tree between site prevent our awning deployment

Sites tightly packed together; Our sewer connection was inches from next site’s picnic table!

Most of the time during our stay in site 80, there was a horrific odor from the sewer lift station 100 ft away

    Not dark sky friendly.

Street lights and utility pedestal lights.

Initially assigned site was changed without any notice so our request to be sited away from a street light not honored

Significant traffic noise from Hwy 87 (even at night) and we were half way down the park Unable to access all 24 cable TV channels; could only connect to 6 channels.

    Sunset RV Park

    Peace in Hill Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 5 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 4 Local Attraction Proximity: 4 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 4 Customer Service: 5 Cleanliness: 4

A really lovely spot in Dripping Springs, Sunset RV Park is a small park in Hill Country outside Austin (this is not the one near Lake Travis). It’s clear that this is a destination spot for snowbirds to the area as most everyone was set-up for a long-term stay and we saw very few folks come and go during our one-week stay. The park is very quiet with close attention paid to COVID precautions (this is the first park we encountered that was 100% contact free check in).

The park is built somewhat into a hill, so some of the turns are a little tricky and our spot was a bit uneven. The space itself was a very wide asphalt driveway with a picnic table and metal fire ring below a stone wall, perhaps a bit close to our neighbors as I wasn’t totally certain it was definitely ours to use.

The amenities are pretty basic- clean laundry and bathrooms and a good enough wifi signal to allow us to use the internet easily. There’s also propane available on site. I enjoyed the layout of the grounds and each site was afforded some privacy thanks to the set-up and tiered spaces. The weekly rate of $300 was very reasonable.

Excellent access to Hamilton Pool (make reservations!), Reimers Ranch and Westcave Discovery Center. Also about 30 minutes to most of Austin including SoCo, McKinney Falls SP and 6th Street.

Reservations were made by phone with a very friendly woman and, as I mentioned, check in was contactless, so we really didn’t encounter anyone else aside from a friendly wave from folks maintaining the grounds in golf carts. The place is a nice find outside Austin and very close by to family for us, so we’re happy to have found it and will return!

    Summit Vacation Resort

    Texas Camping at its finest

We loved the quiet and peace of this RV Resort nestled in Texas Hill Country.

The Park: they have a large pool area with cafe and snacks. The property is large and spaces are spread out through out the park. The big draw is the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake, and the woods and hills.

They have hot shoes, bath houses, laundry.

The sites: Gravel and mostly level, very few sites were unlevel. You’re surrounded by hills so it is nice and quiet. They are full hook up sites. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. Small deer herds would move through the park each evening. Many of the campers feed them corn and they know the sounds and come running out of the hills.

The campground is near grocery and hardware stores. Within an hour are several bigger towns with more stores.

Cellular: T-Mobile was decent but not great. They do have Campground WiFi that worked faster.

Canyon Lake Military - Randolph AFB

We love it here. Not for everyone.

We started with day passes, then graduated to renting out the loft cabins, then tried tent camping, and eventually and recently parked our travel trailer in the reservable RV spaces. All in the same vicinity. Made great memories at each stay.

Pro’s: Best rate in town for military (active, retired, $ disabled). Water is beautiful. Fishing can be fantastic. Lots of water activities available for rent or bring your own. Pet friendly, Great for families, most people are very respectful and wonderful to talk to. Good food and stores nearby. Lots of wildlife. Quiet. Close to town and short drive from San Antonio.

Cons: Hard to get ahold of staff to make reservations. Market is extremely expensive and staff isn’t very friendly. Lost and lots of fire ants.

We recommend it to all of our friends and family and bring them often. We love staying in the loft cabins. Some are pet friendly. We have stayed in the mobile homes on the other side of the lake once but that was not a great experience as our things were stolen off our table and covered patio (on Veterans Day) and they were only left unattended for 15 min or less. The mobile home wasn’t very nice but functional at least.

Guide to Spicewood

RV camping near Spicewood, Texas offers access to the Highland Lakes region, situated on limestone terrain approximately 900 feet above sea level. The area features several natural springs and waterways that feed Lake Travis, creating multiple recreation opportunities. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F while winter nights can occasionally drop below freezing, requiring campers to pack accordingly.

What to do

Water activities at Lake Travis: Cedar Bend RV Park's proximity to Lake Travis makes it ideal for swimming and boating. "The campsite provides level and spacious sites, which is important for RVs to ensure stability and ease of setup," notes Alley R. about Cedar Bend RV Park.

Disc golf courses: Several campgrounds maintain disc golf facilities for guests. "We greatly enjoyed their Disc golf course. Close to Inks Lake State Park where we would have stayed but glad we ended up here!" mentions Cathy J. about her stay at Big Chief RV Resort.

Fishing opportunities: Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis offer excellent fishing. "I really enjoyed fishing from the banks. Most of the sites are leveled dirt sites with full hook ups," reports Eddie R. about his first-time visit to Big Chief RV Resort.

Wine tasting tours: The Spicewood area is close to Texas Hill Country wineries. "We used Big Chief as our base camp and enjoyed checking out the hill country," explains Alan B., highlighting the strategic location for exploring local attractions.

What campers like

Security features: Many campers appreciate gated facilities. "This rv resort plays up the RESORT aspect. It's near perfect. Right off the highway, safe (gated entry), well kept, pretty," explains Joana A. from Austin Lone Star RV Community.

Community atmosphere: "Every night they have something going on and they send a text each day with activities. They text you when you get a shipment," notes Roxanna L. about the social environment at Austin Lone Star RV Community.

Shaded sites: Tree cover provides relief during hot Texas summers. "Our spot is gravel and level. Not too many empty spots! We have a nice table outside and a small grill. Large trees at all the spots provide shade and give you a little privacy from the close campers," reports Deanna W.

Clean facilities: "The facilities are clean, with full hookups, a well-maintained bathhouse, and a laundry room. We'd recommend it to other RVers looking for easy access to the city," share Tijana & Andrew C. about their experience at Austin Lone Star RV Community.

What you should know

Seasonal crowds and weather: Fall brings moderate temperatures but increased visitor numbers to Spicewood camping areas. "We stayed 2 weeks at the end of February. Very clean, well maintained, didn't feel too crowded on neighbors," shares Gordon D. about La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages.

Road noise: Some campgrounds experience highway sound. "Only down-side was the road noise. Only a 2 lane road out front but more noise than expected. And sometimes disturbed the outdoor time," notes Gordon D. about La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages.

Music venues nearby: "Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights and the music venue across the road had a band playing outside from 8-11p," advises Benjamin B. regarding La Hacienda's location.

Site leveling needs: Terrain in the Hill Country can create uneven sites. "This is a beautiful park located minutes away from the lake. Sites are large so it doesn't have that 'reach out and touch your neighbors RV' feeling," notes Jack B. about his experience at Lake Travis Inn and RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Recreation facilities: "The park is very quiet with close attention paid to COVID precautions. The space itself was a very wide asphalt driveway with a picnic table and metal fire ring below a stone wall," describes kristin S. about Sunset RV Park.

Family-friendly amenities: "Family of 5, Grandma, Mom & 3 teenage boys, well organized, had after hours packet ready that was a pleasure to have. Clear and with tag for the truck. Pull through sites, nice trees and a wonderful first time at location," shares Deborah C. about her experience at Austin Lone Star RV Community.

Swimming options: Many campgrounds provide pool access during summer months. "Clean and well setup. Lots of greats hikes, fishing and lake activities," notes Evan H. about Pace Bend RV Park.

Convenience to attractions: "Excellent access to Hamilton Pool (make reservations!), Reimers Ranch and Westcave Discovery Center. Also about 30 minutes to most of Austin including SoCo, McKinney Falls SP and 6th Street," reports kristin S., highlighting day trip possibilities from Sunset RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: "We stayed in spot #4 which was closest to the road and had the most space, privacy and tree cover. Gravel spots with full hookups," advises Alex & Aly D. about Stonewall Motor Lodge.

Leveling preparation: "The park is built somewhat into a hill, so some of the turns are a little tricky and our spot was a bit uneven," notes kristin S. about Sunset RV Park, suggesting campers should bring leveling blocks.

Wi-Fi limitations: "WiFi not the best at the spots near the water - but this made us slow down and enjoy the view. (WiFi better near the office)," explains TexasGirlOnTheRoad about Big Chief RV Resort.

Pull-through availability: "The pull through sites made it easy to arrive and depart with ease," shares Eddie R. about Big Chief RV Resort's convenient site configuration for larger vehicles.
