Interior roads at most parks are well-maintained and accommodate large rigs, though a few locations may have tighter turns requiring careful navigation.

      The Retreat at Shady Creek

      Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

By The Lake RV Park & Resort

      Sweet Resort Style Camping

This is a great family owned RV resort with easy access,.8 miles, to and from I-35 via exit 24 about halfway between Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Dallas Texas; absolutely no interstate noise. Beautiful country setting among the rolling hills and just a mile and a half from the entrance to Lake Murray State Park offering water activities on the centerpiece 5,278 surface acre Lake Murray, 18 hole golf, picnicking, fishing, camping, trail riding, hayrides, 30 miles of hiking, swimming, miniature golf, 100 acres of ATV trails, several marinas and more. The resort amenities include a clubhouse, inground pool, playground, basketball, dog park, lake with firepits, bathhouse, laundry, ice, propane fill station, free wi fi and cable TV. All interior roads are paved, pads are all concrete with irrigated grass lawns, 50/30/15 amp electric, water, sewer, table and cable on 90 large pull throughs and 38 back-ins. Verizon 4 bars. Camp hosts on site and the staff is very welcoming. This park is extremely well cared for and relatively new...so as the trees mature so will the shade and the aesthetics. Great place for a long term stay or just a weekend getaway. A Plus RV Park

      Friendly Staff, Easy Highway Access

I have seen this place a million times living in the community nearby and never thought to check to see if they all tent campers. I was shocked to find out they do accommodate them so I passed through and checked out the grounds and wanted to let people know it exists!

There are two entries at the front of the property each easily accessed from the highway. Though they are gravel they are easy to navigate but do hold a little water in the rain. As you drive into the camp there are 4 main rows of camping, mostly in use by RVs however they do also accommodate tent campers. These sites can be picked up nightly or for more long term use so many people at this park have called this their home for a bit. Despite obvious signs of the long term dwellers, the grounds are clean and well maintained and don't look cluttered like some long term campgrounds will begin to look.

The site offers nice restrooms with showers, a bbq for general use, a rec room perfect for having your breakfast or dinner or perhaps a game of cards with friends and has connections for RVs up to 50 amp as well as a dump station.

For the tent camper sites are wide enough to be comfortable to move around and have scattered picnic tables. The tent camping sites are located on a grassy area next to the pond so they are not squished between big rigs and have a bit more privacy.

This site might not look as elaborate as some, but it more than makes up for the few things you do not have by its friendly staff and on site mechanic.

      TIPS:

      • Call in advance if looking for an RV site, they do have several spaces available but during certain times of the year they do fill up as they are centrally located to many things.

      • Check out the LBJ Grasslands which are nearby when visiting this location, a great get away for some outdoor activities.

      Lake Park Campground

      Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

      Traders Village RV Park

      Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

Tipps Point Campground — Lake Murray State Park

      Campsite trade-offs

This campground is situated on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Murray. Because of this, there are some great lakeside campsites just steps from the water and no campers on either side of you. The downside is the lakeside campsites are set up on the eastern side of the peninsula and parking is N/S with about 20’ between campers. The campground road runs down the middle of the narrow peninsula with trees on the western side of the road (no sunset views unless you walk to the point). Because of this configuration, it requires parallel parking (like a pull through site but literally parked on side of road). The site I reserved (Site 21) was a mere 3 ft from the road. Not too big of a problem, except that I’m a light sleeper and cars/trucks/RV’s, trucks pulling trailers, motorcycles etc. noisily and regularly drive right by and especially at night this was a problem for me. During the day I was more concerned for the families with kiddos that were scootering and riding bikes in the street.

The location of this campground is great in proximity to other things in the Park. The Buckhorn trailhead is right in the campground, so easy access to hiking. Trails are well marked and not too difficult. Campground is closer to the Lodge and access back to the main road into the small “town” for supplies. Because the campground is on a peninsula the campground host said that there tends to be a breeze. When I was there a severe storm hit and I can attest to this location being primely located for wind!

Note: my understanding was this campground accommodates rigs 30 feet or smaller, but I did see larger RV’s pull in and set up.

      Summary:

      • Site: No 21 level concrete pad with 30 amp electric and water hook up/no sewer, picnic table, fire ring and BBQ grill

      • Shower facilities on site, but closed when I was there due to Covid-19

      • Dump site available

      • Boat landing and pier in campground

      • Little gazebo at the end of the peninsula in campground (nice for watching sunsets)

      • Good sized sandy swim area with designated parking

      • Tent camping area with large parking lot. However, the sites weren’t very private

      • Bike/walking trail to 2 other campgrounds

      • Cons: I felt like I was camped on the side of a road. For this reason, if I were to return, I would chose a site in the area with back in camping. Although these sites aren’t on the water and are closer together, they are at least set off of the road and would be quieter.

Lake Murray SP has campgrounds with nicer sites, but Tipp’s Point would do in a pinch.

    Guide to Sanger

The area maintains moderate temperatures most of the year, with summer highs regularly reaching 95°F and occasional winter freezes. Most campgrounds around Sanger feature level gravel pads designed for large RVs, with many parks maintaining pools for relief during hot Texas summers.

    What to do

Wildlife viewing: Visit the alpaca farm at Wagon Master RV Park and Alpaca Farm where one camper noted, "Cute alpacas and friendly watch dogs are an added bonus!"

Dining adventures: Travel 15 minutes to Denton for diverse dining options. A Wagon Master visitor recommends: "The town of Denton is nearby with plenty of grocery options, shopping, and cute restaurants. Don't miss Thai Square if you love Thai food."

Local attractions: Check out the small zoo at Lone Oak RV Park where campers report, "They've got lemurs, a kangaroo, bunnies, a zebra, a camel and all the farm animals! Cannot say enough about the food at the restaurant, which they will deliver to your campsite."

Clean facilities: Campers consistently praise the maintenance of parks in the area. At Shady Creek RV Park and Storage, visitors note it's "very clean and well kept" with "small clean well maintained yards."

Pet amenities: Dog owners appreciate the pet-friendly accommodations. At Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park, a visitor mentioned: "Nice sites most are fenced in with big yards... Nice big dog park with a pond, also a grooming and dog wash area."

Convenience to metro areas: The location provides easy access to major cities while feeling rural. One Shady Creek visitor noted they were "close to town, but feels secluded enough" and "you're right next to Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, Savannah, and Denton."

Level sites: Most parks feature well-maintained, level pads. A Winstar visitor commented: "This place is one of those campgrounds I've stayed out across the country. Sites are really big with large patio level and for concrete pads."

    What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer heat requires planning with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F. A Waggin Tail visitor noted: "Only down side is the Texas heat and none of the sites have any shade trees."

Advanced reservations: Parks fill quickly, especially during events. At Northlake Village RV Park, a camper mentioned visiting "during the Thanksgiving holiday" and found higher rates and limited availability.

Laundry facilities: For longer family stays, on-site laundry is valuable. A Shady Creek camper specifically praised "the laundry room is nice, I really like the app that lets you pay so you don't need coins but also tells you how much time you have remaining or if there are machines available."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Most parks accommodate large rigs but specific sites vary in amenities. At Lake Point RV Resort, visitors mention "the roads are wide (gravel) and plenty of space between sites."

Full hookups: All major parks offer comprehensive connections. Winstar provides "large level concrete with patio and grill" and "sites basically have two grills, two power poles, two water hookups, two picnic tables."

Laundry access: On-site laundry facilities are important for extended stays. One Winstar visitor noted laundry facilities were "clean" with "two separate buildings in the two 'wings' of the park."

Water quality: Some campers note water variations between parks. A Winstar camper mentioned: "The only negative, for me, at least, was that this is SOFT water. I have never been a fan of soft water. In addition, we used the water a couple of times to make ice, and I didn't like the taste of it."
