Best RV Parks & Resorts near Robert Lee, TX

Robert Lee offers several RV park options in the Wildcat Marina area along Spence Reservoir. Wildcat RV Park provides electric hookups, sewer connections, and fifty-amp service with big rig-friendly sites for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels. "The sites are well spaced out along the reservoir with covered tables, trash cans, grills, and fire pits," noted one visitor who appreciated the quiet setting and stargazing opportunities. Spring Creek Marina & RV Park, located about 30 miles south in San Angelo, features full hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer connections on spacious grounds that accommodate larger rigs. Both parks remain open year-round, with most offering gravel pads that require minimal leveling.

Dump stations are available at several parks, though not all sites offer sewer hookups at individual spots. Cell service varies by provider, with T-Mobile showing strong coverage at Wildcat Park where visitors report being able to work remotely. Propane fill service is available on-site at Spring Creek Marina, which proves convenient during extreme weather events. Many parks in the region welcome pets, though specific restrictions may apply. Pull-through sites are limited and typically fill quickly during peak travel seasons, particularly in fall and spring when temperatures moderate in west Texas.

    Abilene State Park Campground

    Nice 1st time experience

This was our first camping experience traveling full time in our 5th wheel. We had no reservations but found a "walk up" spot in the Wagon Circle Loop. Our spot was #15. It was a loop with back in sites which had electric/water hook ups. There is also a dump station. There were bathrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables. There is a recreation area nearby with a playground and a swimming pool. Due to the time of year, the pool was not yet open. There were hiking trails and it was our first experience with geocaching.

    Lone Wolf Creek RV Village

Nice clean park with many large flat pull through sites

Very friendly and helpful hosts let us pick our site. Many large flat pull-through with full hookups. Did not need to unhook toad. Easy on-off at exit 217. Thanks for the books and suggestion of hike to nearby pond Richard. Also convenient Sunoco with lot of space for gas and diesel big rigs.

    San Angelo KOA

    Very Nice Campground

Well maintained full sefvice park with plenty of amenities. More than we are used to. The price was average for 30 amp hookups with wifi, cable tv, restrooms, shower and laundry. There is an onsite pool and game room, trash pickup, dog park, and the lake is a short drive away. Parking is level raked gravel but a little close together. There is a municipal airport close by but doesn’t seem to be alot of planes passing over.

    Love's RV Stop-Sweetwater TX 475

    Nice!!

The Love's RV Stop was clean with long drive paths and enough space. The information about the water hookup was a little confusing as it stated to only fill up vs water hookup while at your RV location. We didn't see a laundry facility as advertised or RV store. We feel though Love's RV Stop is convenient, we feel they're missing a few key points. If their going to advertise a facility, they need to ensure it's either at the Gas Station or the RV Campsite. There also needs to a storm shelter, building, or information regarding evacuations in an emergency, for tornadoes, hail, or worse since there's no tenant, representative, or security on site anywhere. Lastly, IF they're going to advertise the gas station stop as the official RV Store, there needs to safe walk path to store from the RV Stop vs unhooking to drive there when someone is only here for a layover (1 night). Other than those issues, the RV Stop is great! We would definitely use them more in the future!

Lake Colorado City State Park Campground

    Breathtaking Views

We used this for a one night pass thru but I would have loved to spent the week. Gorgeous views, and a perk, perfect weather. The night sky is amazing, facilities clean and well kept. Restrooms and showers were in good repair. Electric and water hook-ups with a dump station at exit. Site was a level back-in spot with covered picnic table. Not a lot of shade available at our site but some had more. I would most definitely stay here again to enjoy the state park.

Nice CG for Convenient Overnight Stay

We stayed one night (May 29, 2022). The is a nice, easy access CG with large, level pull through and back in gravel sites. It is located right off of I-20 and next to a Love’s Travel Stop – there is a lot of road noise and trucking activity, but no bother. I added the Western Kingbird and Bullock's Oriole to my birding list here. The WiFi was good as was cell service. We did not make use of the laundry, bathrooms or showers. It was convenient for an overnight stay. We would stay here again.

    Wildcat Park - Spence Reservoir

    Quiet and peaceful

stayed here for a week in mid-November. Weather: 70 for the high and mid 40s at night. There were signs for nature trail, but I didn’t check it out. Beautiful views and amazing star gazing opportunities. Not much shade/trees near the sites. There sites are well spaced out along the reservoir: covered tables, trash can, grills, and fire pits all for a $5 day use fee. There isn’t a camp host or gate attendant on site. The people from LCRA that attended the park biweekly to empty trash. Minimal local activity during our stay. There is a dump station outside the park. Propane and groceries available only 10 minutes away. Excellent t-mobile service, was able to work remotely.

Lake Colorado City State Park Campground

    Nice, very quiet CG

We have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and stayed in site 41 for 1 night in early September. The CG is clean, well maintained. The CG roads are paved, as are the sites. The site pads themselves are concrete and most looked to be fairly level, but a few had a little bit of slope. Most of the sites were fairly well spaced. The CG, at least on Monday evening, was very quiet and peaceful. There were only 5 other campers in the whole CG. Our site, 41, was a pull-through. There doesn’t seem to be much lake access, at least from the CG areas anyway, except one defunct access from the first CG loop. The trees, mostly mesquite I think, though plentiful, are fairly short and don’t provide much shade. There were a few goathead burrs around so beware.

AT&T coverage was marginal, with only 2 bars of LTE service and speeds up to 2.9 MB/s. We had a clear view to the N from the front of the site, so Starlink was fine with speeds up to 26 MB/s.

    Love's RV Stop-Sweetwater TX 475

Clean, gated, good grass, dog park

Honestly this place is way better than i anticipated. Gated, clean, several of the sites have a covered veranda over the private picnic tables. Dog park with separate areas for small and large breed dogs. Full hook up w/ 50 amp and well spaced out sites. The grass is nice too (a lot of places are mainly weeds and stickers/thorns that my dog doesn’t want walk in). $52 for one night so a bit pricey for us to stay longer than a couple days but definitely a good place to stop that i feel is clean and safe. Others complained of hearing a train but we were there in the summer and with our a/c on i can’t hear any exterior noises

Guide to Robert Lee

RV camping near Robert Lee, Texas centers around Lake E.V. Spence, a 14,950-acre reservoir managed by the Colorado River Municipal Water District. Situated in Coke County at approximately 1,900 feet elevation, this west Texas region experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F and mild winters. Camping options include established RV parks along the reservoir shoreline and limited dispersed sites for self-contained units.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake E.V. Spence attracts anglers seeking largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, and crappie. Spring Creek Marina & RV Park provides lake access where "RV camping paradise. Nice lake to swim, kayak, and fish in" according to camper Blas D.

Wildlife watching: Deer and wild turkey are common sightings throughout the area. Ron V. at Spring Creek Marina & RV Park mentioned, "My daughter loved feeding the deer. We look forward to returning soon!"

Water recreation: Swimming and kayaking are popular during summer months when water levels permit. Boat ramps at Wildcat Marina provide reservoir access for larger watercraft from late spring through fall depending on water conditions.

Abilene daytrip: Located about 75 miles northeast, Abilene State Park Campground offers additional outdoor activities. "There's a decent 3.5 mile hike/bike trail around the lake and back," notes camper Gretchen N.

What campers like

Quiet atmosphere: Many visitors appreciate the peaceful setting away from urban areas. Todd B. at MS G's RV Park, LLC noted, "We only had a one night stopover here on the way from Dallas to Lubbock but truly enjoyed it. The owner got us backed in and then returned with some peaches for us later on."

Night sky views: The rural location offers minimal light pollution for stargazing. Several campgrounds have open viewing areas without tall trees blocking the horizon.

Friendly local management: Family-owned campgrounds provide personalized service. One camper at Concho Pearl RV Estates shared, "The park owner accommodated us as we were running behind and arrived just after office hours. She was extremely sweet, and even left us a gift bag. Later she showed up to double check on us."

Local wildlife encounters: Deer sightings are common at several area parks. Milagros B. commented about Spring Creek Marina & RV Park, "Enyoy the beauty of the lake, sunsets amazing... Nice place for waking and biking."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F June through August, while winter nights can drop below freezing. During extreme weather events, services may be limited. A reviewer at Spring Creek Marina noted, "We were using this as a stop over/mid point in Texas and it happen to be during the crazy article blast that crippled the state."

Water level fluctuations: Lake E.V. Spence water levels vary significantly throughout the year. Call ahead to confirm boat ramp access if planning water activities.

Limited shopping options: Stock up on supplies before arrival as grocery stores are limited. Love's RV Stop-Sweetwater TX 475 provides convenience items, but as Angela C. notes, "Several of the places we called were completely booked - the one campground told me that industry was booming and workers were camping because housing wasn't available."

Cell service variability: Signal strength varies significantly by provider and exact location. Most parks near major highways maintain reasonable coverage, while sites directly on the reservoir may have limited connectivity.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: When lake levels permit, supervised swimming areas offer cooling relief during hot months. Some campgrounds have designated swim areas with gradual entry points suitable for children.

Playground availability: Several parks feature basic playground equipment. Amie M. at Abilene State Park Campground shared, "The playground isn't very good but you are 20 minutes from Abilene with oodles of great parks and a small zoo."

Educational opportunities: Wildlife viewing provides learning experiences for children. As noted by Ron V., "My daughter loved feeding the deer. We look forward to returning soon!"

Bathroom facilities: Quality and availability vary widely between parks. Bar J Hitching Post RV offers "New bathrooms" with "Spacious sites nice showers clean park" according to Kerry L.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Request sites away from highways when possible to minimize noise. Dennis P. at MS G's RV Park noted, "The park was not too far off the highway, so traffic noise was prevalent, but after dark it wasn't bad."

Level pads: Many parks feature gravel sites requiring minimal leveling. Richard & G. observed at MS G's RV Park, "The site was level and the hookups were in very good condition."

Big rig access: Several parks accommodate larger RVs but may have limited availability for pull-through sites. Call ahead to confirm access routes and site dimensions for units over 35 feet.

Extended stay options: Monthly rates are available at select parks for longer-term visitors. Cory D. at Rolling Plains RV Park mentioned, "Economy Spots, cramped but conveniently located off highway with weekly and monthly all inclusive rates."
