    Las Cruces KOA

    Nice park

We only stayed one night but this was a convenient location or far off the highway. Bathroom was clean and staff was nice. Large clean dog park. Nice views of the city. Some sites back up to the view and they also behave a path and pier pit with a view. Looks like they are making improvements to the park.

    Las Cruces KOA

Beautiful Mountain Views, Starry Skies - Wish We Could Stay Longer!

We arrived after dark to the Las Cruces KOA.  The park was about 1/2 full and the sites were spacious, clean and had both gravel and cement area for parking.  The skies at night were clear and the location of the camp, set on a hilltop, was perfect for seeing stars and the distant city lights.  During the daytime, the park has beautiful views of the mountains nearby.  Some of the sites are considered premium and they had the best mountain views and a patio area and outdoor fitpit.

The dog run area was exceptionally clean, nice and spacious for our two dog.  The dog area has a patch of grass in the middle and then surrounded by decompressed granite.  I preferred this to the dog parks that are all grass.  It was very clean and had climbing structures for the pups.  The restroom near the dog park was sparkling clean with marble floors.  I popped into the gift shop/welcome desk and there were a lot of items for sale, crafts, food items, etc.  I can see spending a longer visit here and exploring the town of Las Cruces and the nearby Medilla area wineries.  The location is convenient if you are traveling on I-10 and feels very safe and secure.

This is a small RV park just west of ElPaso. It’s older and could use some maintenance. Sites are level, but very close to. Lots of dust. (This is the desert , so maybe expected) 30/50 amp, water & sewer. Free WiFi and Cable TV No dog park. No pool There is a convenience store and grocery store.

    Hacienda RV Resort

    Hacienda RV Resort, NM

Located in Las Cruces New Mexico, Hacienda RV resort is conveniently situated right off of interstate 10. Their main office is closed currently due to COVID precautions, but they are still very accommodating. The sites are small, but have everything you need with level concrete pads and full hook ups. They have a large laundry room. Make sure you use the ones closest to the door (on the right) because they are newer and don’t leave your clothes soaking wet. The dog park is large and has several entrances- it also provides waste bags and a garbage can, which is a plus. The bathrooms are private and include a toilet and shower- clean!!

    Sunny Acres RV Park

    Downtown and safe.

Very safe campground. Large level sites. Large and clean bathrooms/showers with plenty of hot water. Nice laundry and game room. And a dog park on site. Pricing is comparable for the city. Yes the area is a little sketchy but LC PD has a video monitor at the entrance so no shenanigans allowed. Oh. And blazing fast wifi.

    Mission RV Park

    Not as expected

We checked out the website prior to booking and were planning on staying for a full week, which luckily didn’t pan out. When we checked in we were told we could only stay a night, despite having made a week-long reservation. Understandable given the circumstances, but it would’ve been prudent to inform of that fact on the website. The receptionist was helpful and gave us a number to another rv park in the proximity, which was sweet of her. The park seems to have good amenities, and there is a little dog park at the end of the lot and a pool by the office, but it is right next to a truck storage facility and right by the I10, so it isn’t the most tranquil. The website is slightly misleading, and I don’t think I would stay here more than a night or two.

What to do

Not sure what mtn bike trails are like, so check specific reviews for them. Visitor center has very cool 3d map of area," notes Mark M. The park features the popular Aztec Cave trail and Cottonwood Springs hike.

Wildlife viewing and birding: Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground provides excellent opportunities for nature observation. "Great for walking, cycling, birding. The only camping sites in the metropolitan area in Texas. Sites are semi level and gravel. Great for meditating," shares Eduardo A. The diverse desert ecosystem supports numerous bird species.

Desert photography: The Sierra Vista area offers stunning landscape photography opportunities. "Beautiful area, Organ Mountains to the east and city lights of Las Cruces to the west," reports Laura M. Early morning and sunset provide the best lighting for desert mountain photography, with the changing colors of the landscape creating dramatic scenes.

What campers like

Scenic desert mountain views: Campers consistently praise the panoramic vistas at Sierra Vista dispersed camping area. "Beautiful setting, hiking trails all over, there are people around but you feel like you have your own space, and of course free. Very quiet," writes Laura M. The area provides views of both natural landscapes and city lights.

Privacy between sites: Despite being close to urban areas, many campgrounds offer good site separation. "The sites are spacious and there was plenty of space and privacy at each site. Our favorite spot during our NM/AZ roadtrip!" says Caitlyn B. about Aguirre Springs Campground. Well-designed site layouts help maintain a natural camping experience.

Convenient access to urban amenities: Roadrunner RV Park provides an ideal location for those wanting city access while camping. "Easy on off of interstate 10, service road on both sides of 10 with easy u turns from side to side make it easy to navigate town. All kinds of great restaurants and shopping," notes Beverly T. Most campgrounds are within 15-30 minutes of services.

What you should know

Limited water availability: Many campgrounds near Canutillo have restricted water access. "Had our own water, no electric sites. But El Paso, AKA The Sun City, provides plenty of sun for solar," mentions Mark M. about Franklin Mountains State Park. Campers should bring sufficient water supplies for their stay.

Size restrictions for RVs: Larger RVs may find limited options at some campgrounds. "Be cautious if you have a big rig the spots are not very long and are pull in pull out. We stayed in spot 5 with our 36" and it worked for the one night but if park was full we would felt we where in the way," warns Chelsea P. about Franklin Mountain Campground.

Uneven camping surfaces: Las Cruces KOA provides level sites, but many natural area campgrounds have challenging terrain. "Parking for sites is SLANTED, very few flat! Gorgeous here but tough in a camper van. Also very windy," shares Lucy P. about Franklin Mountain Campground. Bring leveling blocks if camping at primitive sites.

Tips for camping with families

Dog friendly campgrounds near Canutillo: Most area campgrounds welcome pets with standard leash requirements. "Lots of trails to go through. Pets are welcome," confirms David L. about Franklin Mountains. For families camping with dogs, check specific trail restrictions as some areas may limit pet access during wildlife birthing seasons.

Weather preparedness: Families should pack for temperature extremes when visiting dog-friendly sites near Canutillo. "Beautiful weather December (76°)," reports Mark M. about winter conditions at Franklin Mountains State Park. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F, requiring extra water for both humans and pets.

Educational opportunities: Sombra Antigua Winery offers family-friendly camping with learning experiences. "The surrounding area is beautiful wine and pecan orchards. Loved this place!" shares Arthur K. Many campgrounds provide interpretive programs about desert ecology and wildlife during peak seasons.

Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Fort Bliss RV Park offers complete services for larger rigs. "All sites are paved and level. Most are pull thru as well. No internet or cable at the sites. Close to downtown El Paso," reports Glen M. Call ahead for availability as many military campgrounds operate first-come, first-served.

Maintenance considerations: The harsh desert climate requires additional RV maintenance. "There is an RV repair shop on site and a RV store. If passing through and you needed some service, I would definitely check this place out," notes Doug W. about Roadrunner RV Park. Dust filters require more frequent cleaning in desert conditions.

Overnight options: For short stays, consider casino camping options. "Water, electric and dump station for $15/night. It is just a parking lot though. The steak house was excellent and the staff are all friendly and helpful," says Shawn about Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. These locations provide basic services at lower costs than full-service campgrounds.
