Big Creek Resort, Marina, & Campground

One of my favorite local campgrounds

I like this park because it's close to home. It's got a good space between sites and is broken into 3 or 4 areas so you're not just piled in like sardines. You can being 4-wheeled vehicles that have a steering wheel. No sewer hookups, but there is a dump station. Unfortunately, subsequent major floods have caused them to lose much of the tree cover. It's great when camping in groups though, which we do quite often. All sites have views of the lake. They have a really good fireworks display on 4th of July.

    Type of Park: Private-owned

Check In: 4p Check Out: 3p

    Site#79- Back-In

    $35 per night($105 total)

    Water 20/30/50 amp

    Picnic Table with concrete pad

Grass site. No rock or concrete base

👍🏻 Pros: No trees to avoid

On the end of the line so no one is on the"front" side of the camper

Good area for camping in groups

Close to good swimming areas and store

    Close to boat ramp

👎🏻 Cons: Split-level site- table is down a slight hill from parking area. No shade

Across from the cabins on stilts, lake view is a little blocked

Cabins are being refurbished and the equipment and materials are stacked near the site(and some construction noise)

No grill or fire ring at this site

📝 Park Notes: Gates closed and locked from midnight to 6 am on weekends.

Closed at 10 pm on week days.

Can bring golf carts, ATV's(machines with steering wheels, not handle bars)

Dump Station- a little hard to get to for big rigs. Also hard to leave the park from there. You may have to go back into the park to turn around.

Park Store- has fishing bait and supplies, too

Cabins are under re-construction There is a Places Munzee here

    Boat Ramp

🐦 Wildlife: Birds: Cormorants(Water Turkeys), barn swallows, scissor-tail

    Cedar Breaks Park

    Beautiful big sites

The sites are large which means you aren't right on top of your neighbors. Lots of shade. Each site has its own shelter with picnic table, grill and fire pit. Electric and water but no sewer. The sites along the outside of the loop have lake views and are level. The sites along the inside are scary unlevel! Some of the big rigs were backed in and jacked up 4 feet or so in front. Saw a lady break her ankle stepping out of her camper. Be prepared to level your camper! I suggest odd numbers 19-35 and even numbers 36-42 as the most level sites with the best lake views.

The park has hiking trails, boating and swimming access, but none of these are accessed right at the camp area.

Restrooms are very basic with no hot water. They were clean but a little creepy for showers. I used the toilets there during the day and my camper shower and toilet at night.

Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit Campground

Nice park with green space between sites

    • Water

    • 20/30 amp(had 50 amp outlet, but only 20& 30 breakers)

    • Grill

    • Fire Ring with adjustable height grate

    • Picnic Table

    • Site Pad: asphalt. Site was just long enough for my 24' camper and my truck and not much room between.

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • Near the water with a trail to get there

    • Green space between the site and neighbors

    • Good kayaking area

    👎🏻 Cons:

    • The spot is tight getting in. My 10' high camper had low hanging branches on it(but they were soft, not stiff). Lots of vines/shrubs across from the site, so no extra room there.

    📝 Park Notes:

    • Park does not have a gate, so it doesn't close

    • Dump Station for each camping loop

    • Restrooms/ Bath House

    • Boat ramp

    • Fishing jetty (pier is closed)

    • This campground is better for winter camping. Great buffer from wind and neighbors. Only a handful of sites have direct access to the water.

    • Lots of trails

    • There are Munzees and Geocaches here

    • Group pavilion/kitchen available

    • 2 group shelters available

🐦 Wildlife:• Birds: Shore birds, egrets, herons, cardinals, mockingbirds

    • Deer

    • Raccoons(I saw their tracks, but not the critters)

More info an video at https://www.denisevajdak.com/2021/08/my-birthday-weekend-2021.html

Site 23 was better (stayed in this one twice). Wider, nice view of lake. Not very long, but easier to get into.

    Live Oak Ridge

    Excellent Restful Campground

Live Oak Ridge COE Campground is excellently maintain and is a very low-key, restful place to land.  Large sites with ample vehicle parking that offer substantial distance from the neighboring sites give room to bring multiple vehicles or a boat along with the RV.  The sites are well maintained by the hosts who are not obtrusive and just keep a low profile to ensure things are clean and go well. The restroom area is also clean and has showers and toilets. A better-than-typical playground is set in a great interior place for all to enjoy. Water access is through the boat ramp, so don't expect to launch from your RV site since they are elevated far above the water. We stayed in Site 7 (and later extended it to Site 6). Both were easy to back into and fairly level with nice concrete pads, grills, and wonderful covered picnic tables. Both had tree coverage on one side. There are nature trails across the main road and access to Belton and their small but awesome riverwalk area, historic Salado, Still Hollow Lake, the Belton dam (we could see the mural from both sites), Chalk Ridge Waterfalls and Temple, TX within a few minutes. This is a great landing spot for many nearby activities EXCELLENT National Park pricing for 50 amp and water hookups with dump site available.

    Cedar Breaks Park

    Had a great stay!

I am new to the rv life and own a used Coleman Bayside pop up camper. I own a business in Austin and love escaping to the woods at the end of the day.

Im wrapping up a 10 day stay at Cedar Breaks Park campground and will return for sure!

Lake Georgetown is the main attraction and is beautiful, quiet & clean.

The park & campground is easy to find and easy for larger or vehicles with travel trailers / campers in tow. Many grocery stores / restaurants / shopping / medical facilities are close by also (within 2-5 miles)

Sites all have 30, 50a and water hookups (im not sure about sewer hookups at sites but they do have a sewer dump station at front of campground) more than adequate restroom & shower facilities located in the center of the campground.

The staff is absolutely amazing, they are friendly, knowledgable and accommodating.

ROOKIE MISTAKE #1 “GET THE AFTER HOURS GATE CODE” After setting up camp the first day, I realized I needed food for Grady (my silver lab) and drove to Walmart. WELL, I didnt pay attention and got locked out. I didnt have the after hours gate code & had to park out front and walk down to my site & wentback up in the morning to get my truck. Not a huge deal, but a lesson I learned lol

    Flat Creek RV Resort

Ideal Country Setting Only A Few Miles From Waco

There is nothing I like more than finding a nice place to retreat from a city which allows the comfort of the outdoors and relaxation with the convenience of the neighboring city amenities. It is the perfect blend of both worlds.

This can be a bit difficult for a tent camper however, so again I was able to find an ideal location for my RVing friends at this site. Normally that would instantly lower my rating because I cannot personally utilize the location at this time without a rig, however this site was so impressive I couldn't steer away!

Pulling up to the park the gate is grand. The park itself sits a short 5 minutes away from the city on a quiet road. The park is expansive and the accommodations rest several hundred yards away from the traffic of the small country road. It is so peaceful!!

Sites seemed to be spread nicely to have the sense of community but not being to close to form crowding. Each space is separated by a grassy area which accommodates a picnic table and has enough room for a little stretching room.

When I visited all of the units there seemed to be very well maintained and even though they do have both overnight and long term stay options, nothing seemed to have the "moved in" look (no underpinnings, no long sewage hoses typical of long term parks).

I was very excited to see the large area for walking your dogs, area which allowed space to play and roam, a pond to fish in or to enjoy, a fire pit for community use and very nice shower and laundry facilities.

The roads around the park were wide and well maintained, the green spaces were manicured well and as I visited people were all very friendly. It made me want an RV just so I could visit!

    Tips:

    • To stay at this park make sure you make reservations ahead of time. While there is plenty of space, they do fill up and reservations will ensure your stay especially during the more populated seasons.

    • Take advantage of the free wifi when here, just pulling in I checked it out and noticed it was pretty decent from all areas of the park.

    • Bring your fishing poles! This park has a variety of fish in the stocked pond perfect for a relaxing day at the park.

Guide to Cameron

RV camping near Cameron, Texas provides access to several parks within a 30-mile radius with varying amenities and environments. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F and mild winters with occasional freezes. Most campgrounds in the area are situated on flat terrain with minimal elevation changes, making them accessible for various vehicle sizes.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Flat Creek RV Resort, visitors can enjoy catch-and-release fishing in both the creek and stocked pond. "Bring your fishing pole-both a creek and lake for guests to catch and release," notes one camper who appreciated these amenities during their stay.

Historical exploration: The Spanish mission history near Downtown Texas RV Park offers educational value for history enthusiasts. "The campground sits on the site of one of the old Spanish missions from the days when Spain was colonizing Texas. There's a neat story about the garrison commander killing one of the Priests in a feud over an affair," explains one reviewer who enjoyed the historical markers in the area.

Nature trails: Several parks offer walking paths for exercise and wildlife viewing. A visitor at Hidden Creek RV Resort mentions, "Woods with trails allow for walking, with or without the dogs," making it convenient for pet owners to get outdoor exercise without leaving the campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the room between sites at certain parks. At Brazos Valley RV Park, a reviewer noted, "Very well maintained, clean, nice big spaces and good distance between you and your neighbor," highlighting the privacy that can be hard to find at some RV parks.

Concrete pads: Level, solid parking surfaces make setup easier. A visitor to Timber Ridge RV Park shared, "We were just staying overnight, found the campground super clean with nice level concrete pads. No need to unhook!" This feature is particularly valuable for those making short stops.

Responsive management: Staff attitude significantly impacts camping experiences. A reviewer at Hidden Creek RV Resort stated, "The staff is very friendly and appreciative. We have never had a problem at Hidden Creek," reflecting the importance of good customer service for repeat visitors.

What you should know

Fire restrictions: Multiple parks in the Cameron area prohibit open fires. Rockdale RV Park and Brazos Valley RV Park both list fire restrictions among their rules, so campers planning traditional campfires should confirm policies before arrival.

Site positioning: At some locations, hookup placement requires strategic parking. A camper at Timber Ridge RV Park advised, "Need to park as far back as possible to reach utility post," which could affect larger rigs with fixed connection points.

Bathroom accessibility: Facilities may be distant from some campsites. One review of Flat Creek RV Resort mentioned, "From our site to the bathhouse was 3 tenths of a mile," which could be challenging for those with mobility concerns or during inclement weather.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Pool facilities vary greatly between parks. At Hidden Creek RV Resort, multiple reviews mention the excellent pool area, while other parks have limited or no swimming facilities.

Pet areas: Dedicated spaces for dogs enhance family trips with pets. "I really enjoyed the dog park," noted one camper at Belton RV Park, appreciating this amenity that allows pets to exercise off-leash.

Picnic facilities: Not all sites include tables for outdoor meals. According to a Brazos Valley RV Park review, some parks have "no picnic tables at the sites," so families may need to bring their own outdoor dining setup.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Site surfaces vary between parks. A reviewer at Timber Ridge RV Park mentioned, "Spots were nice and level," contrasting with gravel sites at other locations that "did have to do some leveling when we got there."

Dump station positioning: Some parks have challenging sewer connections. A camper at Timber Ridge noted, "Dump hoses slightly uphill on several sites," which could complicate tank emptying for some RV configurations.

Utility access: Connection point locations affect parking position. At Flat Creek RV Resort, pull-through sites with full hookups make setup easier, with one visitor commenting, "Easy pull-thru sites," an important consideration for larger rigs or novice drivers.
