Best Campgrounds near Seabrook, TX

The coastal region surrounding Seabrook, Texas features a variety of camping options primarily focused on RV accommodations with water access. Established campgrounds like USA RV Resorts Marina Bay in nearby Kemah and Brickhouse RV Resort provide full hookup sites with amenities such as pools, concrete pads, and laundry facilities. Within a 30-minute drive, Galveston Island State Park offers both beachside and bayside camping with options for tents, RVs, and cabins. For those seeking more primitive experiences, Bolivar Flats Dispersed Camping provides free beach camping with minimal amenities but direct Gulf access. Most campgrounds in the area maintain year-round operations, catering primarily to RV travelers while offering limited tent camping opportunities.

Summer heat and humidity significantly impact camping comfort in the Seabrook area, with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F from June through September. Mosquitoes present a persistent challenge, particularly near water. As one camper noted, "The mosquitoes were so many and sitting outside was difficult. We did buy some things to help but not sure it was very effective." Hurricane season (June-November) requires monitoring weather forecasts, as coastal campgrounds may close with little notice during severe weather. Most RV resorts require advance reservations, especially during winter months when "snowbirds" increase occupancy rates. The Texas State Parks Pass ($70 annually) provides value for frequent visitors to Galveston Island State Park, waiving daily entrance fees.

Waterfront access represents the primary draw for most campgrounds in the region, with fishing opportunities abundant throughout Galveston Bay and along the Gulf Coast. Several RV parks feature concrete pads with full hookups, swimming pools, and clubhouses to provide relief from the Texas heat. According to a visitor at Brickhouse RV Resort, "The resort is clean and well kept. Pool is located next to Jarbo Bayou for birdwatching, kayaking and fishing." Bay-side camping typically offers more protection from winds but less scenic views than Gulf-facing sites. Cell service varies throughout the region, with Galveston Island experiencing notably poor coverage. Campers seeking nature experiences should consider Brazos Bend State Park, located about 45 minutes southwest of Seabrook, which offers wildlife viewing including alligators, hiking trails, and more shade than coastal options.

    High Island Beach

    Free camping

It's not the prettiest beach. Looks like the highway used to go through here and collapsed. It's free and there is garbage cans. We parked on an open blacktop area. The beach seems pretty solid maybe for a trailer or smaller RV. We are 30' class C towing so we stayed pretty close to the entrance. The highway does run right by

    Beach camping

    Clean and well maintained beach.

Great beach camping. From the east edge of Surfside Beach city limits up the coast about 6-7 miles is all open beach with Great hard pack for driving any vehicle on. Free. 14 day limit. Trash cans at each beach entrance. Please help keep the beach clean and free. Parks & Rec teams do a fantastic job of keeping the beach clean and maintained. They drove by several times each day. I was here for 2 weeks in February. Good verizon signal. No skeeters until the last few days when it got into the upper 70s and was very humid.

    Sandpiper RV Resort

    Convenient to Visit Galveston!

This was a great spot. Our site was level and easy to get set up. It was off season so the office was closed early when we arrived but they did call us to let us know and it all was pretty smooth. Power, water, sewer great just as expected no surprises or problems. We loved our spot and the proximity to the beach do sunrises and walks to the Seawall. So many options for dining and we did love visiting Galveston.
We went to Seawall Church, the Farmers Market, Kite Shop and enjoyed Happy Hour watching the cruise ships pass by.
The Sandpiper has nice laundry room and community room. And a very nice pool, but it was too cold to enjoy. We would def stay again!

    Galveston Island State Park Campground

Very large RV Pads, short walk to sunrise!

The pad had 50 Amp and Water, there is a dump station as you come in or leave. The pictures on their website don’t show how large and nicely paved the area is. The table is under a large covering and you have plenty of space to enjoy the ocean breeze!
The beach is very nice and quiet (in February) and we enjoyed wonderful sunrises and walking/beach combing. There were a few mosquitos at dusk…but the seems to disappear. The walkway to beach is very smooth and accessible. There are other RV parks in the area that you have to cross the road to get to the beach, we appreciated that it was on the beach! Bath houses were nice. Seemed pretty well kept and recently built. (A couple years maybe?)

Great location but choose your site carefully

We wanted to be close to the city so we could cycle around the sights of Galveston. The cheaper sites are actually on the street, with no fence around them and it was very noisy. We were able to move to a different site though which was great. The bathrooms were clean and well appointed. Happy to recommend a stay here but just be aware of the noise on the street.

    Follett’s Island Beach

    Very peaceful, primitive camping!

We stayed for 6 nights. Don’t be intimidated by staying on the beach! As others have suggested, the sand is packed more like dirt on this beach, which made it very comfortable to drive in. Our truck and trailer were safe throughout the week. We lucked out with good weather.

Things to note: there are trash cans right near the entrance of the beach only. No water near the beach, but if you drive to San Luis Pass County Park, ask the parks staff you’re staying on the beach and hopefully they’ll let you fill up (they let us!). Otherwise, gas stations nearby are good options. This was something that may be obvious to many, but we were very surprised by the moisture on this beach. Everything was totally soaked by dusk each day, and remained wet through night due to dew/ humidity. Recommend a car/rig self-wash right as you leave at TJ’s in Clute/Freeport. As others have noted, just watch the tide predictions, and you should be good. The tide never reached us, not even close.

During the weekdays, we were sometimes the only folks we could see anywhere on the beach, which was cool. It felt nice when other campers showed up at night, tho. They mostly kept a nice distance, so it felt nice and private. It was very often patrolled by parks staff. Highly recommend if you have off-grid power capabilities and don’t mind the humidity. Enjoy!

    Northlake RV Resort

Great campground for an extended stay

Stayed one week during the Freeze of Winter 2026! They communicated via email very well on the status of water. The facilities are very nice! The spots are tightly spaced together but there's plenty of room still to spread out.

Guide to Seabrook

The Seabrook area sits on Galveston Bay just southeast of Houston, with elevations averaging only 10-15 feet above sea level. This coastal location experiences high humidity with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F, while winter nights can drop into the 40s. Camping options near Seabrook span from bayou-adjacent RV parks with concrete pads to beachfront dispersed camping with direct Gulf access.

What to do

Fishing from designated piers: At Marquee on the Bay RV Resort, convenient fishing access is available with proper licenses. The park features spacious lots and clean facilities despite having many permanent residents.

Kayaking in Jarbo Bayou: Brickhouse RV Resort provides kayaking opportunities along Jarbo Bayou. As one camper noted, "Pool is located next to Jarbo Bayou for birdwatching, kayaking and fishing." The resort features level concrete pads and is well-maintained.

Beach activities and skim boarding: The beaches near camping areas offer various water activities. A visitor at Galveston Island State Park mentioned, "The beach itself is clean/not littered and is perfect for skim boarding!" Most beaches are within walking distance of campsites.

What campers like

Updated facilities: Galveston Island State Park Campground recently completed renovations that impressed campers. "Beach side is very nice since being remodeled. Great back in sites. Nice electrical and water service towers at sites. Great walking paths," one visitor commented.

Concrete pads and level sites: Most RV parks in the area feature concrete pads with full hookups. At Jackie's Place RV Resort, "Pads are all cement with room to park next to your rig. All sites are back so use some spotters to get in safely."

Proximity to water: Many campers value the direct access to water. One visitor at Bolivar Flats said, "You can park right up to the water. Wind was blowing around 30mph from the south so the waves were amazing to listen and watch."

What you should know

Bug considerations: Biting insects can affect camping comfort. One camper at Bolivar Flats Dispersed Camping noted, "Only gave 4 stars because of the biting flies... They were swarming out dog, we had to keep her in the tent most of the time."

Permit requirements: Some beach camping areas require permits. A visitor at Bolivar Flats explained, "The permits you buy are valid from January to December and we had heard that they don't really enforce the permit rule this late in the year."

Tidal awareness: For beach camping, monitoring tides is essential. One camper shared, "We worried a little about the tide this time, but we kept an eye on it and it didn't come near us."

Traffic patterns: Pay attention to park layouts when arriving. At USA RV Resorts Marina Bay, "Getting there the first time is a tad shaky. As you pull in, natural inclination is to go to the right ... which is wrong. You have to go left to be able to hit the sites correctly."

Tips for camping with families

Pool options: Several of the best places to camp near Seabrook, Texas offer swimming pools to combat the heat. Some resorts have designated areas: "They have an adult pool and a family pool," observed one camper at USA RV Resorts Marina Bay.

Kid-friendly beach access: Galveston Island State Park offers convenient beach access that works well for families. "Campsites are concrete, level, with a very nice shelter. We stayed on the beach side and easy access to the beach from pretty much any site," noted one visitor.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Birding and other wildlife watching activities can engage children. "Pool is located next to Jarbo Bayou for birdwatching," mentioned a Brickhouse RV Resort visitor.

Tips from RVers

Site access considerations: Many RV parks in the Seabrook area have back-in sites that require planning. One camper at Big Spot RV Resort commented on the "clean restrooms, pool area and hot tub. Nice friendly staff, short drive to Galveston Island."

Road accessibility: Some areas have tight roads that can challenge larger rigs. A visitor at Marquee on the Bay RV Resort warned, "The roads getting there are tight if your rig is bigger than 35 feet."

Weekday vs. weekend crowds: For a quieter experience, consider weekday camping. A Bolivar Flats camper noted, "We stayed Monday-Friday and were the only RVer there Thursday night." Another mentioned, "The weekends are loud and busy, during the week it calms down and gets quiet."

Monthly rates: For extended stays near Seabrook, inquire about monthly rates. "It appears that a large percentage of RVs are there on monthly rates. We met one person who was working at one of the refineries which explains the early morning activity with cars leaving," observed a camper at Tropical Gardens RV Park & Resort.
