    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Addison

RV camping near Addison, Texas offers convenient access to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex while providing necessary amenities for extended stays. The region maintains average summer temperatures above 90°F from June through September, with humidity often making it feel even warmer. Overnight lows rarely drop below 50°F except during winter months, making proper cooling systems essential for comfortable camping during peak summer periods.

What to do

Lake access activities: Northside RV Resort features a man-made lake with jogging trails and a large outdoor fireplace for evening relaxation. "The park has a man made lake with jogging trails. We enjoyed our stay," notes one visitor who appreciated the water feature.

Shopping excursions: Camp within minutes of major retail centers when staying at Treetops RV Resort. "Easy access to Target just around the corner, Parks mall is close by and Arlington Highlands shopping is really nice!" reports Jessica F., highlighting the convenient retail options.

Sports and entertainment: Many campgrounds provide strategic bases for attending major sporting events. "Just down the road from the Cowboys Stadium... 25 minutes to downtown Dallas and 20 to Fort Worth," explains a Treetops RV Resort camper, noting the prime location for accessing professional sports venues.

What campers like

Security features: Patriot RV Park and other facilities prioritize camper safety with controlled access. "Gated. Level pads. Quiet. Dog park. Play ground. Wifi. Cable. Lake," summarizes Lauren Z. about Northside RV Resort's security amenities.

Connectivity options: Remote workers appreciate reliable internet access at select parks. "They give free high speed internet. They have a nice laundry room and mailboxes on site," notes Sonny R. about Patriot RV Park's connectivity amenities.

Pet accommodations: Plantation Place offers dedicated pet areas for animal companions. "Has a nice pond and pet friendly," mentions Candy A., who stayed at Plantation Place for about a month.

What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Not all parks maintain shower or restroom facilities. "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS... never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers," cautions Jackie E. about Plantation Place.

Weather considerations: Summer heat requires proper preparation. "We jumped in the pool even though it was 55* outside and said it was a fun experience," notes a winter visitor to Treetops, highlighting the value of pool access during warmer months.

Long-term vs short-term focus: Some parks cater primarily to extended stays. "We stayed for two months for my husband's work. Park manager, Becky, was helpful and nice," reports Bobbie S. about Traders Village, which accommodates both short and long-term visitors.

Tips for camping with families

Look for multi-generational amenities: Seek parks with diverse recreational options. "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," notes a Patriot RV Park visitor, listing features that appeal to different age groups.

Consider weekend activities: Shady Creek RV Park provides family-friendly environments with reliable facilities. "We traveled from West Texas, stayed 4 nights... The park is well laid out, small clean well maintained yards," reports Pedro C., who visited for a family reunion.

Check laundry facilities: Parks with modern laundry rooms simplify extended family stays. "The laundry room is nice, I really like the app that lets you pay so you don't need coins but also tells you how much time you have remaining or if there are machines available," explains Rafael A. about Shady Creek.

Tips from RVers

Level site considerations: Ask about pad construction when booking. "The pads are gravel and almost level," notes Pedro C. about Shady Creek RV Park, highlighting an important consideration for RV stabilization.

Weather impact awareness: Understand how rain affects specific parks. "When it rains stay on the pavement as the mud is nasty and gumbo," advises a visitor to Northside RV Resort, warning about challenging conditions during wet weather.

Unique amenities: Some parks offer unexpected features beyond standard hookups. "This location has all your needs for as long of a stay you ever need. Propane refill station, fuel station, a store, hair shop, laundry mat, showers and restrooms," details Alejandro G. about his experience at Traders Village.
