Best RV Parks & Resorts near Waynesboro, TN

Crazy Horse Recreational Park in Waynesboro offers RV sites with 30-amp electric hookups, water, and sanitary dump services. The park provides both drive-in and boat-in access for RVs, with sites near the Buffalo River. Nearby, Harmony Ridge RV Park in Linden accommodates big rigs with both 30-amp and 50-amp electric options, sewer connections, and water hookups. Thousand Trails Natchez Trace, located in Hohenwald, features 30-amp service with water and sewer hookups throughout its expansive grounds, though many lakeside sites are occupied by long-term residents. "The park has really nice roads and stops for viewing. Our full hookup camp site was next to water and lots of trees."

Several RV parks in the region require specific navigation considerations. The Natchez Trace Thousand Trails location has a low bridge (11 feet) that prevents direct access for taller rigs, necessitating alternative routes via Napier Road. Cell service varies significantly across campgrounds, with reviewers noting poor connectivity at some locations. Most parks accommodate pets and offer trash disposal, while amenities like laundry facilities are limited. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, many parks experience seasonal crowding, particularly those offering river access for recreation. Green Acres RV Park in Savannah provides 48 RV sites with full hookups available year-round, making it a reliable option during off-peak seasons.

    J.P. Coleman State Park Campground

    Narrow sites with killer views

The sites are rather narrow with varying sizes and locations for outdoor living space. Pay close attention to the states website regarding vehicle size maximums. As I walk through the park, it appears that all spots are full hookup and paved. We are on site 43 and anything longer than 30 ft will be pushing it. As it is, our 25ft trailer fits nicely, but the truck is parallel parked across the end of my site in order to be off the road. The picnic table is behind the camper instead of on camp side, which isn’t my favorite setup but we are making due. Some sites have metal fire rings, while others (like ours) have rock circle pits. Some campsites on the hill side have no picnic table OR fire pits. They also have almost no room to walk around the RV without tumbling down the hill. Sites 62 and 64 aren’t terrible, but everything else from 59 and up is pretty bad. 25-34 and 51-54 are short and back up to a a hill. Would be great for Class B or smaller travel trailers. Sites 10-24 are in a separate area from the rest. 35-50 are down on a low flat area near the water and are the best if you like a view of the lake.

Bath house in our loop is clean, not completely out of date, and heated for cold weather camping. There is a small area with 2 set of pay washers/dryers and a few vending machines.

All in all, well worth the State’s $32/night charge.

    Heritage Acres RV Park

    Up and coming RV park!

This RV park was still heavily under construction while we were there. In fact, I believe we were the first people to stay in our spot, a premium pull through. The playground was in the process of being completed and the game room wasn't functional yet but you can tell the owners are investing a lot of time and money!

The concrete pad was within 1/4" of level and even had two sewer connections. Included in the premium site was a nice picnic table and a smaller two person table, fire pit, and nice large marble lighting.

    Tanbark Campground

    Very Nice Overnight Stay

We stayed one night. It was very nice. Cash or check only. Veteran and other discounts. Inexpensive. Check in after 12:00 Check out 11:00. Pull through full hookup 30/50A service. Fast friendly check in. Some sites gravel, some asphalt. Older building for restrooms and laundry, but meticulously maintained. Level enough that I didn't unhook, just lowered jacks for stabilization. I don't see where the complaints about space come from. All of the tight spaces are taken by full time residents. We had more than enough room for a 36' 5th wheel with 3 slideouts, a cargo carrier on the back, tow vehicle (which I didn't have to unhook) and a second vehicle. We could have fit another car if needed. The person behind us parked his truck between his rig and ours. In front was a fire ring on a 12' wide patch of grass. There are full time residents here, but most of the rigs look a lot nicer than other places we've seen. Beautiful area. Was surprised how low the road noise is being so close to an interstate. We wouldn't even hear it if our door was shut. Very quiet. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for recognizing veterans and offering a discount.

Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground

    One of the best

Like most if our reviews...I cannot comment on showers, bathrooms, etc. We have an RV for that. They do have a clean accessible laundry room that is nice. That being said...do yourself a favor and just stop here. This place a great find and one if the best we've stayed at. It's clean, plenty of space, great pond with ducks and geese, and the hosts are second to none...seriously the best. We stayed at a pull through, concrete pad site that was perfectly level. Their office is decorated in a really cool 50s diner fashion and makes you want to order a shake and some fries. Just a great spot. Given the time...I could see this being a long term spot for us.

    Piney River Resort

    Not worth the hype

I have a large motorhome and pulling a long enclosed trailer. Called in to book a one-night stay to confirm which spot is best for my length and easy to get around, the rep said spot 50 was best (our phone conversation kept cutting out so I opted to book online). The website was very easy and modern to use and I paid $66 for the recommended spot that had a picnic table and string lights (as well as 50 amp, water, sewage). The rep said to follow the texted directions instead of gps because gps route is not rv-friendly, that was such a joke. The “rv friendly directions” included an 8 mile hilly and windy road that turned into dirt halfway through with LOTS of potholes, quick turns, and SKINNY roadways. Driving in a night was very sketchy and then leaving in the morning was worse to finally see the area I was staying in, was not quite family-friendly. It made sense why DoorDash and Uber eats did not service the area. The nice string lights I paid for did not work. The paved pad for my spot barely fit my RV and made my trailer bottom out and scratch when pulling out. The turns around the park were big rig friendly once in but not so much going out. Will not be visiting again. I guess my only plus was the dumpster open for use.

Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground

    RV Park and RV Repair!

Parker’s Crossroads is located very conveniently off of I-40 and the park is gorgeous! They have some long term campers, storage, and an RV Repair Center on site. The shop inside has more parts then we have ever seen at an RV Park. While here we needed a switch for a water heater, they had it!

The campground had some narrow roads and some less than level sites but they were all doable. They have a nice pool area, spaces for dogs to be walked (on leash), pet waste disposal, cabins, and full hook ups.

The park was very quiet and clean, well kept. They have large mature trees, and great landscaping.

The cellular service for TMobile and AT&T we’re both decent and streaming video was possible each night.

Guide to Waynesboro

Waynesboro, Tennessee campgrounds provide riverside access to the Buffalo River, a 125-mile waterway that winds through the western Highland Rim region. The area sits at approximately 740 feet above sea level with summer temperatures averaging 86°F and winter lows near 30°F. Many camping options in this region focus on water recreation with varying levels of hookups and amenities.

What to do

Kayaking the Buffalo River: The Buffalo River offers multiple access points and difficulty levels. At Crazy Horse Recreational Park, visitors can arrange shuttles for river trips. "Yakkin' the Buffalo, Crazy Horse style. Primative Camping, kayaking & catching tagged small mouth bass was more than an experience! Perks was exploring a cave!!" reports one camper.

Explore Amish country: The Waynesboro area includes several Amish settlements with local crafts and goods. Heritage Campground and RV Park serves as a convenient base. "Very friendly staff, nice surroundings of Amish settlement, campground itself looks old but, heritage, it's great," notes a visitor who enjoyed the cultural experience.

Swimming holes: Natural swimming areas along the Buffalo River provide relief during hot months. "The water is crystal clear and cold. We sat in beach chairs and let the current wash over us. The swimming hole was great! We loved watching the younger crowd jump off the cliff into the water," describes a visitor to Piney River Resort.

What campers like

River access sites: Waterfront camping spots are highly sought after. "Spots by the lake are a must," says a camper at Thousand Trails Natchez Trace. However, availability can be limited as "all of the lakeside sites are taken up by resident campers (of which there are a lot)."

Privacy options: Piney River Resort offers spacious sites along their waterfront. "The campsites are nice and level, very clean. The quietest campground we've ever stayed at," reports one visitor who appreciated the peaceful atmosphere.

Family/party separation: Several campgrounds maintain designated quiet areas. At Crazy Horse, "Has a family side and another rowdy side across the river. Family side quiet time begins at 10 pm," notes one camper. Another explains, "The family friendly, quiet side is across the river."

What you should know

Navigation challenges: Some rv parks near Waynesboro, Tennessee have access limitations. At Thousand Trails Natchez Trace, "There is a low bridge (11ft) that you need to pass under to get onto the Natchez Trace Parkway. If you can't fit, you have to take Napier road north several miles."

Connectivity issues: Cell service varies widely across the region. "I had absolutely no cell service through Verizon and my T-Mobile 5g internet had no reception either (even with a booster)," reports a Thousand Trails visitor. Another notes, "WiFi was $5.95 a day but pretty slow."

Bathroom conditions: Facilities can deteriorate during busy periods. "The bathrooms start out pretty clean, but can quickly get nasty with the traffic of kayak renters and other campers. Showers also are pretty cold on a weekend night," reports an experienced Crazy Horse camper.

Tips for camping with families

Choose designated family areas: Several campgrounds offer family-specific sections. "We stayed at a site with a pavilion right on the river and it was great! Our girls enjoyed swimming, fishing, and kayaking," reports a visitor to Piney River Resort.

Pool access: For families wanting swimming options beyond rivers, consider campgrounds with pools. "They have a pool, lots of activities, great clubhouses, and large sites," notes a Thousand Trails camper about their amenities beyond natural water features.

Activity variety: Look for campgrounds offering multiple recreation options. "Has dog park and swimming pool and beach area! Has laundry rooms and bath n shower houses heck ya! Rec center was closed due under construction put you can shoot pool and lounge around play foosballs and air hockey!" shares an enthusiastic Thousand Trails visitor.

Tips from RVers

Level site selection: Green Acres RV Park offers well-maintained spaces for RVs. "The grounds are Meticulously maintained, the staff will do everything possible to make your stay as pleasant as possible. All sites will accommodate large Rigs, with full power (20amp, 30amp, 50amp) service," notes one RVer.

Hookup verification: Check specific hookup configurations before booking Waynesboro Tennessee rv parks. At Thousand Trails, one camper noted, "Did have an issue that most sites are only 50 or 30amp hookups only, so I had to borrow a 30 to 120 adapter."

Road condition awareness: Interior roads at some campgrounds need maintenance. "The roads throughout the park need some work, there are large pot holes that are difficult to avoid," cautions a visitor to Thousand Trails, while at Piney River Resort, campers are advised to "follow the directions on their website!" to avoid challenging routes.
