Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hartford, TN

RV sites near Hartford combine mountain access with various hookup options. Mountain Ranch RV Park provides full hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric service and water connections for smaller groups, with only four sites available. Anchor Down RV Resort offers premium concrete pads with full hookups, fire pits, and mountain views, operating from March through December. "Sites are a bit close together but not on top of each other. Gravel pads, fire rings, picnic table, trash. Beautiful green space and dog walk area," noted one camper about typical setups in the area. Creekside RV Park features 108 sites with full hookups including 30/50-amp service, accommodating big rigs with pull-through access near mountain streams.

Planning ahead proves essential for RV camping in this region, particularly during fall color season when parks reach capacity quickly. Mountain roads present navigation challenges with occasional sharp turns and elevation changes that may require careful maneuvering for larger motorhomes. Cell service varies considerably by location, with stronger Verizon coverage reported at several parks while AT&T service remains spotty in more remote locations. Most RV parks in the area accommodate pets with designated walking areas, though some enforce strict leash policies. Propane fills typically require trips to nearby towns, as one visitor commented, "They don't sell propane. We got ours filled at the Tractor Supply in Alcoa, TN nearby."

    Tuckaleechee Campground

Now called Little River Campground, absolutely wonderful!

Husband and I wanted to get away and found this campground- it is such a gem! You can't see it well from the road, but there is a huge sign out by the road. Trust it! You're in the right place. You drive across a small bridge across the Little River when you get to the campground, but it can handle big rigs. We saw many massive Class A campers while we were here for 6 nights. We pull a 30 ft travel trailer and used a pull through site- very large spot as far as rv sites go. They have back in spots for campers and tents literally on the bank of the river and you're allowed to swim, play, tube, etc in the river at your own risk. Camp store has firewood and a few essentials, but they don't sell propane. We got ours filled at the Tractor Supply in Alcoa, TN nearby. They had crafts and hayrides while we were here. Wifi is free but not great. Verizon cell service was good enough at 3 bars the whole time. No on-site laundry services, so we had to go into town to use laundromat (nearby town of Townsend is adorable but no laundromat). The grounds offer tent, cabin, and rv sites with various levels of electric, water, cable and sewer access. Our site had 30amp, water, sewer and cable. Nice and level site, large fire pit, sturdy plastic and metal picnic table and large beautiful mature trees. The bathhouse is seriously impressive and is, by far, the nicest campground bathhouse I've ever used! One of my favorite features was random and I never knew I was missing it in my life until now.. the bathrooms have strong AC pumping right into each bathroom, making everything nice and cool when you come in from the hot campsite.. wonderful! Good view of the mountains in the distance and minutes away from Great Smoky Mountain National Park entrance. This is a wonderful find!

    LOCATION

The location is incredible! We enjoyed the accessibility of hiking, biking and fishing right from the campground. ART LOEB trailhead is right outside the campground entrance and is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Several loops and even sites provide access to the river for fishing. Just outside the campground are endless trails and several beautiful waterfalls that can be accessed within a 5-15 min car ride. Convenient to a few restaurants, grocery stores and even a Walmart (which is slightly dodgy so be warned).

    SITE

014 WOAK site is an RV site. It’s spacious and very private. We loved how much room we had to spread out and entertain as we were traveling with several other camping families. Our site was the go to spot! Backing in wasn’t difficult. It was convenient that the pull through site across from us was vacant, this made backing in super easy. There are no hookups on this site. So be sure you have a generator! One bonus on the location of this site is the water access just feet away. We needed to fill up and had forgot to do so when we pulled in to the campground. What a relief to see a water access just steps from the campsite! The only downside was that generator hours are very limited. If you are traveling during warmer months or must have AC, this is not the site for you. We felt that the tree coverage really provided us protection from the heat and did very well without AC in early August.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Slide Rock is a natural water slide that is fun for the whole family. Yes… it’s COLD and honestly worth every moment of chilly suffering.

    • Hiking is abundant and all levels are accessible within minutes to a few miles of the campsite. Our favorites are: Looking Glass Falls (steps going down make this a breeze), Moore Cove Falls is a MUST and an easy trail that leads to the perfect waterfall for a good photo, Looking Glass Rock is a moderate to difficult hike and worth it. Looking Glass Rock is a long hike so be prepared to go early and bring a rain jacket.

    • Fishing right within the campground makes it perfect for an early morning or late afternoon activity. The hatchery is nearby and offers some wonderful opportunities to catch and release. Be sure to look in to a guided tour for a hands on experience filled with lots of educational info on local fish.

    • Biking is a top activity for lots of overnight and day campers. The Art Loeb Trail provides endless miles that proves fun for the whole family.

    • Ice Cream at Dolly’s should make your list if you love a refreshing treat. This iconic little stop if right by the entrance to the Pisgah Forest and just around the corner from the campground. Also a great spot for a cell signal!

    • Breweries aren’t hard to find nearby. Small microbreweries are within a few minutes and Sierra Nevada Brewery is 25 minutes away.

    DON’T FORGET

    • Generator (in case your site doesn’t offer electric)
    • Headlamps and Flashlights (tree coverage is heavy so it gets darker faster)
    • Fishing Poles
    • Rain Jackets (it rained almost daily in the afternoon)
    • Cordless Leaf Blower (for removing leaves from slide outs)

    Townsend-Great Smokies KOA

Right outside of Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Amazingly clean campgrounds 10 minutes from the entrance of the National Park and 20 minutes from the Visitor's Center.

You have a choice of "rustic" tent sites, tent sites with water/electric/cable hook-ups, RV, or Cabins. All sites are pet-friendly including cabins. All camp sites include fire pit and picnic table.

Lots of amenities are included in your stay. 2 bathroom areas, 1 shower area, pool, wi-fi, etc.

    A nice vacation spot.

    Cades Cove Campground

    Quite, beautiful, weekend traffic

This is one of the quietest campgrounds I’ve stayed at. Sites are nestled in the woods in a cove in the Smokies. No cell service. No internet. No cable tv. Just peace and quiet! This is a national park campgrounds, so no water, electric or hookups. There is a dump station and modern bathrooms. Cold water showers. There is a camp store with basics. There is a lot of traffic especially on weekends with visitors driving the scenic Cades Cove Loop Road.

    Indian Creek Campground

    Excellent Campground

Indian Creek Campground in Cherokee, NC is a hidden gem. Nice hosts, clean facilities in the woods. We have a 25 ft pull behind camper and sites are big enough for slide-outs. Picknick table and campfire ring was on site. We had a 30 amp full hook-up site. Campground has tent sites, RV sites, cabins, clean bathhouse and is dog friendly.

Guide to Hartford

RV camping near Hartford, Tennessee provides direct access to Great Smoky Mountains National Park through its eastern entrance. The area sits at approximately 1,300 feet elevation with surrounding mountains reaching above 6,000 feet. Seasonal changes affect campground availability, with many facilities operating between March and December due to winter conditions and maintenance periods.

What to do

Creek fishing access: Smokey Mountain Hidden Stills RV Campground offers creekside camping spots with immediate fishing opportunities. "The creek right next along the site was perfect! Super clean and has exceptional host & owner who will do their best to meet your needs," notes Rita Kay, who also enjoyed the campground's axe throwing and cornhole amenities.

Mountain exploration: Twin Creek RV Resort provides a strategic base for Smoky Mountain adventures. "There's a road that goes through the campground that passes through to the back side of Gatlinburg, but it was very rough and dangerous in a big truck, but there's some great hiking back in there," shares Nate H., highlighting access to lesser-known trails.

Family water activities: Pride RV Resort offers multiple water features including fishing ponds and a creek. "Nice park. Very clean and close to a ton of attractions. Right beside Jonathan Creek which was great but also right beside the highway, a little noises at times," reports Mark, who visited during Labor Day weekend.

What campers like

Resort-style amenities: Anchor Down RV Resort features extensive recreational options beyond standard campground facilities. "The beach area they've constructed on the lake is INSANE! So so nice! There's a giant blow up slide leading into the lake. There's a super cute and fun dog park, arcade room, very nice pool area, food truck with anything you could want to eat," writes Becca O.

Holiday celebrations: Seasonal events create memorable camping experiences at several parks. "Every Saturday in October, campers decorate their site and hand out candy to the costumed campers! My kids LOVED that. We have already booked for this next October and plan to make it a tradition!" adds Becca O. about Anchor Down RV Resort.

Clean facilities: Creekwood Farm RV Park maintains exceptionally clean bathrooms, a priority for many campers. "The bathrooms were amazing, individual bathrooms, very roomy and oh so clean," reports Joe B., who considers this campground among his top five and returns annually.

What you should know

Reservation strategies: Popular resorts require advance planning, especially during peak seasons. "It is so hard to get a reservation here, so we decided to take what we could get so we could try it out! A tip to get reservations! Call and put your name on a waiting list for the dates you need. If they have cancellations, they call the people on the list instead of releasing the dates on the website!" advises Beth H. about securing spots at Anchor Down RV Resort.

Site spacing considerations: Many Hartford-area RV parks feature tight spacing between sites. "The spots are a little close, but it is an awesome park with great people; campers and staff," notes Joe B. about Creekwood Farm RV Park, while Aaron C. cautions about Riveredge RV Park: "This campground is clean and in a good location to the main road but the sites are very small. We could not use our awning due to being so close to the camper next to us."

Noise factors: Traffic noise affects some otherwise desirable campgrounds. "The sites along the fence line are HORRIBLE! The road noise is awful and there's construction on the other side of the road that begins in the early morning and lasts till late afternoon. Leaving your windows open to enjoy the fresh air is NOT an option!" warns Lorena B. about Creekside RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Water recreation options: Multiple swimming facilities keep children entertained. "We had a ball playing in the pool and splash pad. After hours we went to the arcade and played," shares Holly G. about Riveredge RV Park.

Multi-activity campgrounds: Look for campgrounds with diverse recreation options. "This campground has everything you need in a campground... The activities almost seem endless. Along with a swimming pool, there is a rec room, a mini golf course, basketball court, a covered shuffleboard court, a playground, and much more," describes Myron C. about Pride RV Resort.

Transportation convenience: Some campgrounds offer shuttle services to nearby attractions. "Downtown parking is expensive, so the trolley stop at the entrance makes it easy to get into town without paying for parking," explains Mick about Twin Creek RV Resort, which provides convenient access to Gatlinburg.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Consider specific site characteristics when booking. "Choose creekside - we loved #7 but all of the pull-ups were nice!" recommends Zoey T. about Smokey Mountain Hidden Stills RV Campground.

Bathroom access: Distance to facilities matters for comfort. "There's only one bathhouse, so if you plan on using that a lot, work with the office to make sure that will work for you," suggests J. Blake S. about Creekside RV Park.

Maneuverability concerns: Tight spaces require careful navigation at many resorts. "My only complaint - as is common with privately owned RV parks - is that the sites were difficult to get into. The camper across the street from my site had to move his truck so that I could get enough angle to back into my site," cautions Eric S. about Creekside RV Park.
