    Florence RV Park

    Drive-By RV Parking Lot Community

This spot is so close to I95 (look for exit 169) that you’ll both feel and hear the swoosh of passing by traffic 24/7. So, while you’ll incur ease and convenience, that will come at a cost (privacy and quietude being what you will sacrifice most).  Located in the NE pocket of the Palmetto State, Florence RV Park, while not a destination per se, could be a nice (and incredibly easy) layover on your trip destination to anywhere else up or down this major east coast highway artery.

Despite the location, this spot has a lot to offer: an intimate little public pool behind the management office, WiFi hotspots, dog park, scattered picnic tables (in pretty good condition), kid’s playground, 20 / 30 / 50 amp hook-ups, dump station, dog walk area, catch & release fishing pond, propane refueling station, vending machines, small pond for fishing, basketball court, volleyball, badminton and horseshoe rings. There’s even 4-5 log cabins for rent at the front of the property (with full access to all the highway noise) and of course, good old fashioned on-site laundry facilities along with a mini-store that has most of the basics covered as well as fairly spartan shower / bathing facilities.

Insider’s tip? Here's a few: (1) The further east you are on the property, all the better as you’ll be positioned as far away from I95 traffic and noise; (2) If tent camping, I highly recommend spots #A7 – A13 and if you are RV’ing I recommend #L9 – L18 as well as any of the locations on J, K and F11 – F16; (3) There’s a lot to explore near here, from the Grand Strand of South Carolina, of course, Myrtle Beach and even Darlington Raceway, so if you don’t mind the overpopulated location with its westerly view of non-stop traffic, then this could be a good place to stop for the night or from which to launch your exploration of the area; (4) If you’ve looked at this RV campground’s website, don’t be fooled by the pictures – I don’t think any of them were actually taken of the place, save for the pond, and that was a close-up; and (5) If you are looking for a nearby spot to sample the local fare, I recommend checking out The Drive-In Restaurant with its 50s era nostalgia, big juicy burgers, fried everything, homemade onion rings and thick, creamy chocolate shakes.

    Happy Camping!

    Charleston KOA

    Family Fun in Low Country

Pulling into Charleston KOA just off US-17 south of historic Charleston immediately sets one at ease, with broad paved roads, clearly marked loops and a layout that feels intentionally family-friendly without being sprawling or overwhelming. This large KOA campground has a full suite of amenities that make it easy to feel at home, with clean bath/shower facilities, a heated pool, splash pad, playgrounds, dog parks, game areas and an inviting camp store, along with shaded sites, roomy pull-throughs for bigger rigs, and tent areas that are never too far from the action. One of our favorite parts of the stay was watching the boys splash and shriek with laughter at the pool one afternoon, then huddling around the community fire pit at dusk sharing s’mores and swapping stories with other families while an orchestra of cicadas serenaded us from the treetops. From what we saw, the best sites are the ones tucked toward the wooded perimeter, where you get more shade and a quieter feel while still being close enough to stroll back to the amenities without dragging gear for miles. We’d recommend Charleston KOA for families because of its EZ highway access, friendly atmosphere, and a variety of kid-centric amenities that help turn a simple overnight into a genuine camping getaway.

    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Nice sites!

Very nice concrete pads; large sites with fire pit, grill, and picnic table. Gravel roads have washed out areas but not terrible. Very open and quiet. Several long-term residents.

    Eagle's RV Campground

    Ranger Review: Eagle’s RV Campground

We called to reserve a week long stay and were told they had sites available, which turned out was only one. The campground is definitely a “no frills” park and mostly used by long term/permanent residents. The host/owner had us pull right next to his own rig, it was a tight fit and we had zero privacy. He then proceeded to sit on his RV stairs and smoke and stare at us both when we were outside and when we were in our rig. We could smell the smoke which isn’t ok with us. We didn’t even bother to put the slides out. When we set up the electricity we had fire ants attack us. We decided quickly that we’d only stay the night and we’d leave first thing in the morning. Across the street is a nice state park and campground (Colleton State Park) but they unfortunately didn’t have any sites open big enough for our 30 ft class A. I’d recommend staying there over this campground if you want to be in this exact area. We luckily found another campground closer to Charleston to stay at.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Consistent excellence

I live 10 minutes from Sesqui and visit the dogpark daily. I stay in the campsite are in my 20ft Travel trailer 2 or 3 times a year. Staff is responsive to camper needs.  Plenty of drive-through, front entry and back-in sites, all with power and water.  Excellent shower and toi l et buildings. Privacy and low noise are consistent. Price is low for us seniors and disabled.  Small lake for paddle boating and fishing.

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    We will be back!

Even though we had a few rainy days we could see the beauty of this park. Clean heated restrooms in Winter is a bonus. Lots of things to do for all ages. Helpful and friendly staff.

    Colleton State Park Campground

Really well-kept quiet little state park

This one one of the cutest, most well-maintained State Park Campgrounds we’ve been to. The groundskeeper Larry is the nicest man and was so welcoming from booking to departure. You can tell he takes pride in caring for his site. There’s a nice big field for the dogs to play in and we were able to rent kayaks from the outfitter across the creek to explore the Edisto River. There’s a good burger place 3 miles down the road (Lee’s) too. The cell and WiFi worked great for full time remote work and locationally Colleton is about 1 hour between Charleston, Savannah, and Congaree National Park. I think this is also the smallest state park in South Carolina.

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Sesquicentennial State Park Campground

    Needs improvements

Not a big rig friendly area. Our site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side. Had I known this ahead of time, I could have maybe pulled in another way. The service from another site was less than 3 feet from my power inlet to the camper. I called to make sure it would be ok to plug in there and they said no, even though no one used that site. The bathhouse was well below standards and really just unusable. I’ll pick another place if I’m ever in the area again.

Guide to Manning

The Manning area of South Carolina sits at an elevation of around 200 feet in the coastal plain region. Campers will find relatively flat, wooded terrain with access to lakes Marion and Moultrie, which together form the Santee Cooper Lakes system spanning over 170,000 acres. Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing, making year-round camping possible at most locations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie offer excellent fishing conditions, particularly for striped bass, channel catfish, and bream. Hill's Landing & RV Park sits perfectly between both lakes on a tributary called Diversion Canal. "Located about 1.5 hour northwest of Charleston, you will find complete respite from the bustling developed world out here in these parts where there's plenty of hiking, fishing and boating to be had," notes one visitor.

Hiking trails: The Palmetto Trail passes within 5 miles of Johnston Landing Campground and features remarkable views of sunken giant Cypress trees. "One of the best hikes in all of South Carolina– the Palmetto Trial is just about 5 miles away, but is definitely worth the hike as here you'll be able to witness first hand the sunken giant Cypress trees, amazing bird watching (Ospreys and Herons in particular)," reports a camper.

Wildlife viewing: The rural setting provides opportunities to spot native wildlife. At RV's Acres, visitors might see deer wandering through the property. "The last time I was here (4 days ago) 2 does & a fawn came lopping/walking through the property," mentions one reviewer.

What campers like

Waterfront camping: Many campgrounds in the area offer lakeside sites with direct water access. At Johnston Landing Campground & Cabins, campers appreciate the waterfront location. "Once you successfully navigate all of the backroads past Lake Marion and directly on the shores of Lake Moultrie, you'll eventually find a small nook in the road where you'll discover Johnston Landing," writes one camper.

Rental equipment: Several campgrounds provide boat rentals for visitors who don't bring their own. "If you are coming to these parts, be sure to bring a floating vessel of any type– fishing boat, kayak, canoe or whatever will stay afloat– but if not, no worries, the good people here at Johnston Landing have you covered as they offer a paddle boat, kayaks and a row boat for rent," notes a reviewer.

Well-maintained facilities: Many rv sites near Manning, South Carolina receive positive feedback about cleanliness and upkeep. "Very nice campground. Has boat docks & launching ramp. Nice fishing pier. Clean bathrooms. Staff friendly and helpful. Seen several Deer, Armadillo and other wildlife I will stay here again," writes a visitor to Cypress View Campground.

What you should know

Site leveling needs: Some campgrounds require equipment for leveling. At Black Pearl Farms, visitors should be prepared for rustic conditions. "Black Pearl Farms fit most of our expectations. However, I did make some poor assumptions regarding the information. We were in spot 3 which had 'access to power and water'. Which was true, but not what I assumed. The site was a few yards away from a wash area to get water from and there was a 12 volt power cord outside to plug into," reports one camper.

Reservation types: Some campgrounds only accept monthly reservations. Cedar Cross RV Campground operates on a monthly rental system. "I sent an email checking on one night availability and the response from Erin was 'We only do monthly rentals,'" notes one potential visitor.

Cell service: Coverage varies throughout the area, particularly at locations farther from Interstate 95. When camping at Black Pearl Farms, be aware that navigation systems might not provide accurate directions. "CAUTION: The directions provided by The Dyrt to this location are incorrect. It is not located on Sand Hill. So please use Google Maps to find the location or you will be down a long dirt road with no place to turn around," warns one visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: Several campgrounds feature playgrounds for children. Palmetto Shores RV Resort provides multiple recreation options. "We had a nice views of the water. They had a play ground, cabins, games. Just a very woodsy cozy place," notes one visitor.

Swimming areas: Families can enjoy designated swimming areas at several campgrounds around Manning, South Carolina. "We ventured down to the lake swimming area," mentions one visitor to Santee Lakes KOA, though they caution about boat traffic near swimming areas during busy periods.

Pet-friendly sites: Most campgrounds welcome pets but have specific rules. "We both really enjoyed our stay. The dogs loved the dog park and I appreciated having bags to pick up after them," writes a visitor to Palmetto Shores RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Pull-through access: Many RV sites near Manning offer easy access for larger vehicles. "Newly graded pull-through spots and a very easy paved boat landing to maneuver around," notes a visitor to Hill's Landing RV Park.

Camp store conveniences: Several campgrounds provide on-site stores with camping essentials. Hill's Landing RV Park offers "a general store where they sell bait & tackle, gas, ice, snacks, sundries and all the other basics you would expect."

Hookup options: Electrical service varies between campgrounds. "The site was 30 amp, no sewer. I backed in the way I was told to and realized our water and electric were on the curb side," reported one RVer about their experience at a local campground.

Site selection: When booking at Santee Lakes KOA, waterfront sites offer the best views but may present challenges for larger RVs. "Nice campground on the water. Worth the upgrade to the lake front sites," advises one camper, while another notes, "The first site they tried to put me in was a 'premium' site overlooking the lake. Beautiful site, but not nearly big enough for my 37' travel trailer."
