    Florence RV Park

    Drive-By RV Parking Lot Community

This spot is so close to I95 (look for exit 169) that you’ll both feel and hear the swoosh of passing by traffic 24/7. So, while you’ll incur ease and convenience, that will come at a cost (privacy and quietude being what you will sacrifice most).  Located in the NE pocket of the Palmetto State, Florence RV Park, while not a destination per se, could be a nice (and incredibly easy) layover on your trip destination to anywhere else up or down this major east coast highway artery.

Despite the location, this spot has a lot to offer: an intimate little public pool behind the management office, WiFi hotspots, dog park, scattered picnic tables (in pretty good condition), kid’s playground, 20 / 30 / 50 amp hook-ups, dump station, dog walk area, catch & release fishing pond, propane refueling station, vending machines, small pond for fishing, basketball court, volleyball, badminton and horseshoe rings. There’s even 4-5 log cabins for rent at the front of the property (with full access to all the highway noise) and of course, good old fashioned on-site laundry facilities along with a mini-store that has most of the basics covered as well as fairly spartan shower / bathing facilities.

Insider’s tip? Here's a few: (1) The further east you are on the property, all the better as you’ll be positioned as far away from I95 traffic and noise; (2) If tent camping, I highly recommend spots #A7 – A13 and if you are RV’ing I recommend #L9 – L18 as well as any of the locations on J, K and F11 – F16; (3) There’s a lot to explore near here, from the Grand Strand of South Carolina, of course, Myrtle Beach and even Darlington Raceway, so if you don’t mind the overpopulated location with its westerly view of non-stop traffic, then this could be a good place to stop for the night or from which to launch your exploration of the area; (4) If you’ve looked at this RV campground’s website, don’t be fooled by the pictures – I don’t think any of them were actually taken of the place, save for the pond, and that was a close-up; and (5) If you are looking for a nearby spot to sample the local fare, I recommend checking out The Drive-In Restaurant with its 50s era nostalgia, big juicy burgers, fried everything, homemade onion rings and thick, creamy chocolate shakes.

    Happy Camping!

    Poinsett State Park Campground

Luxury or backwoods & in between

The pond is good for all ages, but don't expect to be dragging a big boat here. You can rent a canoe or a row boat or bring your own. There is some sediment in the pond, but it is still enjoyable.

You can go all out camping with no extras or enjoy nature in a luxurious cabin. The big one had two bedroom which could sleep two in one & 3 or 4 in the other. Plus, there is an alcove with bunk beds & chairs & a couch to make a total of 11 or 12 easily. It is fully stocked included linens & towels. Cook in or out. There is even a fireplace & screened in porch

And I haven't even touched on the trails. So much to do or relax & enjoy the peace.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Cypress View Campground

This is one of the two campgrounds at Santee State Park, and it is as different from the other as night and day. Unlike the dirt roads at Lakeshore Campground(the other campground in the park) the roads in Cypress View are paved. The sites are gravel, and many of them are pull-through sites. Although tent camping is allowed in Cypress View, I would feel out of place since most of the campers are RVs. However, our teardrop camper fits right in. Cypress View is a much smaller campground than Lakeshore Campground, but the amenities are the same. Every campsite is a short walk from the lake, and the campground is closer to the store than Lakeshore Campground. Unlike Lakeshore Campground, Cypress View Campground’s sites are much closer together, so there is not as much privacy. The campground is quiet, other than the noise from the highway.   That may be one reason to be in an RV or a travel trailer--to cut out some of the noise at night.

Close to the campground, there is a tennis court, a boat launch, Fisheagle Tours, a picnic shelter, kayak rentals, hiking trails, and more. It is conveniently located to most of the state park’s attractions without having to drive so far. Cypress View Campground is also close to the main office and the boat dock.

If you had rather stay in a cabin, there are cabin rentals on the water. They are accessed by way of a boardwalk across the water. The bath house is modern and has hot showers. It is centrally located so that it isn’t that far of a walk from any of the campsites.

Overall, I do recommend this campground, especially if you are in a travel trailer or an RV. If you are tent camper, you would probably better enjoy being at the other campground in the park.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Big campground on the lake

We camped here over the weekend with the pups. The state park has 2 different campgrounds. We decided for the Lakeshore one. It's pretty big with over 100 campsites. They have the usual amenities like fire pit, and picnic table with bench. Our was private, but the sites in the middle are not. The bathhouse was very clean with nice hot showers. The park has several trails, a visitor center, cabins on the water, at least 2 boat ramps with a bait shop. There are no trash cans near the campsites, there is one big dumpster at the entrance of the campground. It's about 1.30h to Folly Beach. We would definitely camp here again.

    Poinsett State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We tent camped for the weekend in mid October. The park was probably 80% full, but didn’t seem crowded. All the spaces were spread out and the sites were level. We stayed at site 30, so it was a close walk to the bathhouse, with plenty of space, picnic table, and fire ring. The bathhouse was in fair condition, but the hot water was limited. The mens bathroom definitely needed to be cleaned. There were lots of trails, a pond, and a park for thing to do. T-mobile service barely worked. Check out our review https://youtu.be/pL1zgad0rN0

    Weston Lake Recreation Area

    Peaceful

I was stationed at Jackson from’07-‘09 and the only thing that has really changed is the dam is being worked on so you can only observe the lake, no swimming, boating, anything on the lake until repairs are completed. The receptionist said they’ve been working on it for maybe 4 years. Hopefully it’ll be completed sooner than later. The grounds could be kept up a little better as could the restrooms/bath houses but I imagine they lost some revenue due to the lake being closed for dam repairs.

There isn’t any concerns getting back here, the biggest rigs will not have any problems. All sites are large concrete pads, FHU. Most sites are spaced very well, some better than others but you won’t be on top of anyone whichever site you’re at. They have a large concrete patio area, nearly the size of the pad itself with a picnic table and fire pit/grill and stand alone grill.

Verizon cell coverage is adequate. I had 2 bars and LTE, sometimes 5G. Not like being in the city but sufficient. No wifi.

There are cabins and tent sites as well. This isn’t a large campground but there were still a few open spaces.

There will be various bugle calls throughout, morning, day and night. You may hear firing range training going on in the distance. You should expect this and it should not be seen as negative, you’re on a military campground.

Current RV site price a night is $35, if you have a National park pass it’s $32.50. Despite the lake being off limits right now I will still come back. Once it’s opened back up I’m sure it will be more busy, right now it’s very peaceful.

    Colleton State Park Campground

    Easy stop over

Easy stop over for a night or two. Right off of I95. Next to a major road, so there is car/truck noise during the day. None of the sites are private, so I wouldn’t call this a “destination” campground. Great if you want to fish and kayak the Edisto River!

The bathrooms are very clean and air conditioned. Sites are all very clean with power, water, picnic table, and fire ring. There are nicely spaced out trees, so if you have a hammock, bring it. Didn’t have mosquito issues, but beware there are a lot of ants and they bite!!

Best sites are 6, 8, and 9. We camped in site 10.

    Johnston Landing Campground & Cabins

Low Country Camping @ Johnston Landing

Once you successfully navigate all of the backroads past Lake Marion and directly on the shores of Lake Moultrie, you’ll eventually find a small nook in the road where you’ll discover Johnston Landing, which is set off immediately by what looks to be a small bayou playing home to likely some grizzly gators(but truth be told, I never saw any while we were there). If you are coming to these parts, be sure to bring a floating vessel of any type– fishing boat, kayak, canoe or whatever will stay afloat– but if not, no worries, the good people here at Johnston Landing have you covered as they offer a paddle boat, kayaks and a row boat for rent. Insider’s tip? One of the best hikes in all of South Carolina– the Palmetto Trial is just about 5 miles away, but is definitely worth the hike as here you’ll be able to witness first hand the sunken giant Cypress trees, amazing bird watching(Ospreys and Herons in particular). As for amenities, this well-groomed campground offers up fairly new picnic tables, all the basic hook-ups(water, electric and sewage), BBQ/ grills and fairly clean restrooms and showers. Sportsman’s Bar& Grill just down the road is about the only thing decent within close proximity, otherwise, be prepared to cook whatever you plan on dining on for each meal.

    Happy Camping!

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

Beautiful place to camp on the shores of Lake Marion

This is a great campground for anyone who enjoys watersports. Lake Marion is a great place for boating, kayaking, and fishing. Camp sites are mostly level and have water and a variety of electrical hookup options. Some fun but easy hiking trails link the two campgrounds in a loop. Very pet friendly.

Guide to Manning

Cabins near Manning, South Carolina provide convenient access to Lake Marion's 110,000 acres of freshwater. Located in the Santee region, these accommodations sit at approximately 95 feet above sea level with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-95°F. Cabin rentals in this area serve as practical bases for fishing expeditions and water recreation, with most properties remaining accessible year-round.

What to do

Fishing at Lake Marion: Bells Marina & Resort offers direct access to prime fishing spots. "I even caught a trophy-sized bass that made my week," notes one camper who appreciated the wildlife viewing opportunities as well. The marina provides essential services for anglers including a new fish cleaning station.

Kayaking on calm waters: Early mornings provide ideal paddling conditions at the lakefront areas. "I was able to watch wildlife every day, from white herons to bald eagles," reports a visitor who enjoyed exploring the shorelines. Most cabin properties offer kayak rentals or launching areas for personal watercraft.

Hiking nearby trails: Poinsett State Park Campground maintains multiple trail systems suited for various skill levels. "Poinsett State Park has some of the best hiking and biking trails in the Palmetto State. You could spend multiple days camping here and have a chance to hike different trails every day," explains one reviewer. The park connects to surrounding forest lands for extended exploration.

What campers like

Waterfront cabin views: Sunset vistas from lakeside cabins rank high among visitor preferences. "Nice campground on the water. Worth the upgrade to the lake front sites," notes a camper at Santee Lakes KOA. The evening light over Lake Marion creates distinctive viewing opportunities from cabin porches.

Quiet off-season stays: Winter months offer more secluded cabin experiences with fewer visitors. "Campground had tons of room in December. We were right on the lake. Easy park to walk and explore," shares a winter visitor. Reduced rates often apply during non-summer periods.

Efficient check-in processes: Several cabin properties streamline arrival procedures. "They have a check in station at the gate so you don't even have to get out of your vehicle. Then they have people on golf carts take you to your site which is great," reports a visitor appreciating the convenience after a long drive.

What you should know

Site selection matters: Cabins vary significantly in layout, amenities and proximity to water. "The RV site itself was perfect. I had a great view of the water and was able to watch wildlife every day," explains a visitor at Bells Marina & Resort. Research cabin locations before booking as waterfront units often cost 15-30% more than standard options.

Bathroom facilities vary: While most cabins include private bathrooms, campground shower facilities receive mixed reviews. "I've seen better bath houses. Even with lots of people this park is quiet," notes one camper. Consider bringing cleaning supplies for cabin bathrooms regardless of property advertised standards.

Weekend crowds vs. weekday tranquility: Occupancy patterns follow predictable weekly cycles. "For our first time camping in our RV the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our trash was picked up every morning. Campsite, pool and laundry area was kept clean," reports a weekday visitor who enjoyed the quieter atmosphere.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park offers family-friendly recreation areas. "We really enjoyed this park! There was boat access, a playground, nature trails and everyone was so friendly!" explains a visitor with children. Cabins nearest to play areas book quickly during summer months.

Swimming options: Both lake beaches and pools provide cooling opportunities during hot months. "Nice dock for fishing. Clean bathrooms. Staff friendly and helpful. Seen several Deer, Armadillo and other wildlife," notes a reviewer who found multiple activities to keep family members engaged.

Educational opportunities: The region offers wildlife observation possibilities near cabins. "This is a great campground for anyone who enjoys watersports. Lake Marion is a great place for boating, kayaking, and fishing. Some fun but easy hiking trails link the two campgrounds in a loop. Very pet friendly," shares a visitor who appreciated the natural learning environments.

Tips from RVers

Accessibility considerations: Lakeside Marina & Resort offers both RV and cabin options with varying access challenges. "This campground is one part marina, one part multi-faceted campground escape. While they do have a handful of spots for RV's and trailers, in addition to renting a handful of cabins directly on the lake," notes a visitor who evaluated multiple accommodation types. RVers should request specific site measurements when booking.

Supply management: The distance to major shopping requires planning. "The store has almost everything you need, especially for fishing," explains a camper describing on-site provisions. RVers staying in cabin facilities should verify kitchen equipment before arrival as supplies vary significantly between properties.
