For those who forgot something or needed to pick up some ice or other necessity, you would have to leave the campground to get it." Pirateland Family Camping Resort

    Perfect ocean front spot

Very nice park! We had ocean front spot site 695. Spot was sandy and looked a little sketchy to back into, looks as if someone got stuck. We ended up backing up just fine with no problems and pulled out just fine as well. Bathrooms were close and very clean, great water pressure. They pick your trash right at your spot every morning. Had a minor electrical problem, called and they were right there vey quick and fixed the issue. Lots of things to do, Pool, lazy river, splash pad, and kayak/peddle boats. Putt putt cost money but it’s available. Gulf cart rentals as well. The ocean beach is so beautiful and it was not busy. Just a perfect spot. I recommend going to Broadway on the beach for things to do in the area.

We did how ever have family fly in and rented a cabin. Sharon from the office was not so friendly she only deals with cabin rentals so if your here to camp in campground it’s a great place!

    Myrtle Beach KOA

    Rustic Cabin Check in delay

We just visited the Myrtle Beach KOA and stayed in one of their rustic camping cabins. First the good — The staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The campground was generally clean and there was a reasonable amount of space between the sites. Now the bad — we arrived at 4:30pm to check in and found that the camp store closed at 4:00pm - everyday. For those who forgot something or needed to pick up some ice or other necessity, you would have to leave the campground to get it. Second; upon arrival (4:30) we were told that none of the rustic cabins were ready and to come back in an hour. Not a great way to be welcomed. Next, the shower/bath house appeared clean but there was a distinct smell that made it feel like it might not have been that clean. Finally, the KOA is right downtown, so there is a good deal of noise from outside the campground. Lots of sirens, fireworks, and engine noise from US 17(Business). Final analysis: We really don’t like Myrtle Beach (too much of a tourist trap) and we probably wouldn’t come back. We were only there because I had some work to do in the area and needed a less expensive place to stay.

CarrollWoods RV Park at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard

    Actually 4.8 Stars

Spent the week before Memorial Day and Memorial Weekend at Carrollwoods. This is really a nice campground. The sites are well-spaced with a picnic table, fire pit and grill at each site. There’s a pool that was unfortunately out of service during most of our visit there during the 90-degree heat. It was finally open when the weather cooled. There were not many other campers until the weekend and then there were only a few sites left. The grounds are very spacious. Lots of room to walk with a few short paths that go into the woods. It has one of the best dog parks that I have ever been to. It is very spacious, fully shaded by lots of trees and even has a few man-made hills for the pooches to climb. The only downside was it appeared as if the waste bin hadn’t been empty in several days. I visited the winery and the two women who own it are helpful and lively. If you visit, you must get one of their wine floats. My only negatives were they advertise free WiFi and cable. I wish businesses would not promote poor quality products as “free”. I probably could access their WiFi no more than for 3 times in all the time I was there and would last no more than 10 minutes. The cable had several odd channels and there was so much buffering, it was often unwatchable. My only other issue is that they need to do some cleanup in their gardens. There were several planters with dead plants in them from the year before. Either refill them or get rid of them. The beds are well designed, but needed a good weeding. Even with its flaws, this is definitely a campground I would return to.

    Huntington Beach State Park Campground

Nice large sites close to the beach

Don’t confuse this campground with Hunting Island (many people do). Although expensive, the sites here are very generous in size. Sites on the outside of the loop have more privacy (sites 1-33 have trees behind them for even more privacy).

The restrooms and showers are clean.

There are multiple access points to a very walkable or runnable beach. No bike rentals on-site but there is a local bike shop that will deliver to your site. Tours of Atalaya available plus other programs (although we didn’t take advantage of these). There is a large store with many souvenirs along with general necessities. If you order three or more bundles of firewood, they will deliver to your site.

It would have been nice to have a utility sink to wash dishes in as there are in other state parks. Also, like all other South Carolina state parks, alcohol is prohibited.

Although I usually take many photos at our campgrounds, for some reason, I didn't here!

    Brunswick Beaches RV Resort

5 miles from Kindred Spirit Mailbox

I came to this campground because of its location about 5 miles from Kindred Spirit Mailbox on Bird Island.

The campground was quiet. All the guests were quiet, but friendly.

Water and electric hook-up, laundry on site, showers and toilets behind the camp store office. Great cement picnic tables/benches!

Not close enough to beach unless you have a car or bikes. Parking lot near beach is $10. Pool clean; ice and firewood on premises for sale.

Dump station near entrance/exit. Road into camp is incredibly narrow. 2 vehicles can’t fit; one has to pull over to the side to let another pass by.

This campground used to be a KOA but now it is a Good Sam camp. The road is still named KOA. Address is 7200 KOA Drive, Sunset Beach, NC 28468 (910)579-7562.

    Myrtle Beach KOA

    Nice stopover

We only stayed here one night as we were traveling to points south. It was February, so not packed full, but a fair amount of “winter camping” enthusiasts in the park. Typical of a KOA, sites are rather closely packed. It’s very nicely wooded for the most part and there are a variety of options to be had, including camping cabins. There are also luxury rv sites that have cement pads with patios, grills and patio furniture along with full hookups. We happened to be there after a period of heavy rain and there were large puddles and some sites partially flooded, so there might be some drainage issues. The bathhouse was acceptable, not really new, basic but clean with lots of hot water. A few blocks from the beach, but they have a shuttle (in-season) and golf carts to rent. I imagine it’s a very busy place during peak season. Friendly check-in with a helpful escort to the site. Camp store, laundry, games and play areas for kids also available.

    Ocean Lakes Family Campground

    Nice beachside campground

One big campground with a lot of amenities. Nice people. Good size sites with concret pads and patio that accommodate larger rigs but the roads between the sites can be tight. Kid and pet friendly. Wish it had a dog park. Very large camp store, large laundry facility and water park. Very fairly price considering the he amenities. We’ll be back.

    Willow Tree RV Resort

    Amazing vacation

Best RV Resort we’ve been to so far. Large lots with nice long pull through, clean and quiet with a friendly staff. Amenities included nice swimming pool and hot tub. Volleyball net and basketball hoop on each end of pool. Shuffleboard, corn hole, sand volleyball. Game room had a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey. Books galore to borrow, DVDs if you have a player which we don’t, but we don’t camp to watch TV. Store had a puzzle you could spend time working on and a checkerboard with rocking chairs to just hang out in. The lake beach was closed for the season when we went but the inflatables looked like they would have been fun! Mile long paved path around the lake was great for walking or biking. Catch and release fishing too. Had a mix of annuals, short term campers and on the other side of the lake they had nice cabins and a small park model village. Exercise room and a nice clean laundry room. Bath house was 8 individual doors to full individual bathrooms of toilet sink and shower which were kept very clean. Cherry Grove beach was only 15 minutes or so away and there was a Food Lion less than 10 minutes for grocery shopping needs. Resort store had reasonable prices for ice and wood to burn in the fire pit. Only negatives which weren’t a big deal was nothing can be strapped to trees... aka no laundry line or hammock attached to the trees and no tents allowed. We will go back! Wish it was closer to home.

Guide to Jamestown

Cabin rentals near Jamestown, South Carolina typically have better availability during weekday bookings, especially in non-summer months. Most cabin facilities in the area have a standard check-in time of 3 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m., with early check-in sometimes available for an additional fee. Winter cabin camping provides lower rates with temperatures averaging 45-60°F during the day from December through February.

What to do

Beach wildlife viewing: Huntington Beach State Park Campground offers exceptional bird watching opportunities and wildlife photography near cabin accommodations. "Do not miss saying hi to the wildlife on your way in. The egrets, herons, and gators are a beautiful sight heading to the camp sites and beaches. Great photo opportunities at Atalaya," notes Theresa M. about the park's natural attractions.

Historic exploration: Several cabin campgrounds near Jamestown provide access to historical sites. At Huntington Beach State Park Campground, guests mention the unique Atalaya Castle. "Great beach. Castle to explore on site. Beautiful scenery. Great bike trails," says Adriane P., highlighting the historical landmark within the park.

Winter beach activities: Cabins remain available year-round at most facilities, with fewer crowds during winter months. Kevin A. from Myrtle Beach Travel Park shares: "We camped here this weekend. Rain finally stopped and Sat and Sun were sunny and cool. We love this park to walk the beach, watch the birds and just relax. Sites are spread out and spacious."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Cabin rental properties maintain high cleanliness standards for comfort. "One of the cleanest campgrounds I've been to in South Carolina. And only a short walk from the beach," reports Rion K. about Huntington Beach State Park Campground. The cabins and common areas receive regular maintenance throughout the day.

Concrete pads: Many cabins feature concrete pads that minimize sand tracking indoors. Barefoot RV Resort receives praise for this feature: "The sites are spacious and concrete pad for trailer, tow vehicle and picnic tables. Fire pits are nice," notes Dee A., who also mentioned how "they cleaned up some tree limbs and debris shortly after the winds subsided" following tropical storm Elsa.

Proximity to grocery options: Cabin campers appreciate the convenience of nearby stores for supplies. Jessica D. at Barefoot RV Resort says: "Rent a golf cart from Salty's—they deliver it right to your campsite. This was a must have as we used it to get to the beach, shopping/bars in Barefoot Landing, food store and more." Most cabin properties are within 10-15 minutes of grocery options.

What you should know

Reservation policies: Reservation requirements vary significantly between cabin providers. At Ocean Lakes Family Campground, pre-check-in services streamline arrival: "We did pre check in before we arrived and they set all our paperwork in the mail. This was great bc all we had to do was place the tag on our mirror and drive in. Nice and easy after a 9 hr drive there," explains Samantha O.

Site spacing considerations: Cabin proximity varies widely between facilities. "The campground was generally clean and there was a reasonable amount of space between the sites," notes one visitor. However, Clarissa H. from Ocean Lakes Family Campground observes: "The sites are packed and the roads are small and the golf carts are endless so getting in and out and back in seemed nearly impossible."

Noise schedules: Most cabin campgrounds enforce quiet hours to ensure restful stays. "Noise times are 7am-11pm. The good thing about this is at 11pm everything is quiet. No one is on the roads. All golf carts go away and people settle down for the night," Samantha O. explains about the Ocean Lakes noise policy.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for different ages: Multiple cabin facilities offer water options beyond the beach. Pirateland Family Camping Resort gets high marks from families: "Lots of amenities—once you're set up you'd never need to leave. Beautiful pool, clean climate controlled bath houses, beautiful beach access!" writes Terri S. The resort also features a lazy river and splash pools.

On-site entertainment options: Family-friendly amenities keep children occupied during cabin stays. Blake K. from Pirateland shares: "Rent a golf cart and ride around. Make sure to decorate it because there is a cart parade every night from 9-11. It sits right on the beach and has a nice pool and a lazy river."

Laundry access: Extended family cabin stays benefit from on-site laundry facilities. The wash-and-fold service at Ocean Lakes proves particularly helpful: "The wash and fold service. I dropped my clothes off at 830am and they were ready for pickup by 1030am. Best part it only cost me 21.00. I dropped off a giant bag of clothes," explains Samantha O.

Tips from RVers

Site preparation: Cabin campers should note leveling variations when selecting locations. At Briarcliffe RV Resort, Kyle D. notes: "Our site was concrete but in no way level, we had to use our leveling blocks to keep our auto leveling system from lifting wheels on our class c." This information helps cabin guests choose appropriate sites.

Off-season values: Winter cabin camping provides significant cost savings. Samantha O. advises: "Get up early and set up beach chairs. No one will take them and it will ensure you get a spot on the beach. We did this everyday. Some days we left our chairs on the beach and went to the pool and then went back to the beach later."

Security considerations: Gated cabin properties provide additional safety measures. Kyle D. from Briarcliffe RV Resort mentioned: "We felt very safe there with a toddler as it is gated access. What we really loved was the location which is within walking distance of barefoot landing. So nice to have dining and shopping right next to your RV park."
