Best Campgrounds near Noble, OK

Lake Thunderbird State Park serves as the primary camping destination near Noble, Oklahoma, offering multiple campgrounds around the 6,000-acre reservoir. The park includes several distinct camping areas such as Turkey Pass, Little Axe, South Dam, Clear Bay Point, and Critter Alley, providing options for both tent and RV campers. Most campgrounds feature electric hookups, water access, and basic amenities, with Turkey Pass specifically designed to accommodate larger RVs with 50-amp service. The Oklahoma City East KOA in nearby Choctaw supplements these options with cabin accommodations for those seeking alternatives to traditional camping.

Summer brings hot and humid conditions to the region, making water-based recreation popular but requiring preparation for the heat. "Summer temperatures will be hot and humid so prepare to enjoy the water to cool off," noted one visitor to Clear Bay Point campground. Campsites throughout Lake Thunderbird State Park offer varying levels of shade, with some areas providing better protection from the Oklahoma sun than others. Weekday visits typically result in quieter experiences with greater site availability, while weekends and holidays see significantly higher usage, particularly at waterfront locations. Road conditions within the park are generally good, though some areas have low-hanging branches that can scratch taller RVs or trailers.

Waterfront locations within Lake Thunderbird State Park receive consistently positive reviews, with many campers highlighting the easy lake access for fishing, boating, and swimming. The park features ADA-accessible fishing docks and boat ramps at several locations, making water recreation available to visitors of all abilities. While most developed campgrounds include restrooms and showers, their condition and cleanliness vary considerably across the park. One camper remarked, "Bathrooms are older but clean. Showers have HOT water," a sentiment echoed in several reviews of Turkey Pass campground. Campers should be aware that some areas experience high levels of boat traffic and associated noise, particularly during summer weekends when music from watercraft can carry throughout the campgrounds well into the evening.

    Love's RV Stop-Choctaw OK 486

    Good traveling stop

This is a new RV park, and everything looks great. The pads are concrete and the utilities are fine. I made the reservation on the phone because I had .no internet where I was the day before and it caused issues once we arrived. It. took a minute, but all was well. The sites are much larger than I expected. There are two unisex bathroom/showers - clean. It cost the same as our last KOA. There is road noise as expected. The Loves store is large with a McDonalds inside. No complaints!

    Central State Park Campground

    Peaceful setting

Nice location just outside the city of Oklahoma City. Pretty peaceful by the Arcadia Lake. You can hear the roadways nearby and sometimes an airport but the crickets and frogs are nice at night Bathrooms are mid. Dark sort of clean but just old. Shower has great pressure but again old and dark and you can’t change the mild temperature. Plus a very large spider was found!
Cell service version and att good. Water spigots at various locations around the park Sites are fairly level. People need to clean up after themselves. I find it disgusting that people call themselves outdoors men when they smoke leaving their cigarette butts on the ground a long with other trash around their campsites. Leave it Better Than you found it! Please stop littering there is not anyone else to clean up after you. I’ll get off my soap box. Thanks for listening.

    Rockwell RV Park

    Ok

Staff was friendly but the wifi is so unstable I couldn't stay connected. Spaces are very close and gravel. Not in the best part of town and a little sketchy. It was ok overall, but overpriced for what you get. Half the washers and dryers weren't working and the machines were dirty. The little dog park was nice but not well kept, and the playground area seemed more like junk storage. No buffalo, but I think that's a good thing because the pen they were kept in seemed really small. I'd stay there again in a pinch, but not proactively. I hope they improve on some things so I can change my mind.

    Quiet, Clean, and Safe

Really nice stop for the night! The area was clean and well maintained, and it felt very safe. Easy in and out, with plenty of space and nearby amenities. Great spot for a comfortable rest on the road.

    Twin Fountains RV Park

    Perfect spot

We enjoyed our two nights here! We utilized the limo service to go to the zoo! Mens restroom was under renovations, so my husband had to use the camper shower (full hook ups though, so not a biggie). The mini golf course had seen better days and didn’t look operational.

We all enjoyed fishing the pond and having a fire each night!

    Wes Watkins Reservoir

    Nice Lake

Campground is on a lake. The rest rooms are pretty nasty and old. I wanted to take a shower but changed my mind. Located in a nice forest.

    Lake El Reno RV Park

    Great Find!

This campground is situated in a growing area- but is tucked away. It is really cute- well maintained and many sites. There are washrooms with showers- good hot water. The bathrooms are very minimal and not the most aesthetically pleasing- but they are clean and functional.

Some sites have fire pits and picnic tables, some don’t.

    Great areas for walking.

    Lots of grass.

Have a children’s playground, although it is small it is new and in good condition.

There is a small laundromat onsite too.

    Tent camping spaces available.

    Mustang Run RV Park

    Great campground

We were traveling through and stopped for a couple of nights to visit family. It’s a wonderful park that fit our needs because it was close to our family. Concrete pull through and back ins were level and spacious. Small pool and had several areas to walk our dog. Also a small off lead dog park. Laundry room was nice and very clean $2 to wash and $1.50 to dry. We absolutely loved the park. The only exception is the road noise. The interstate is within sight which does make it easy on and off, but also for some road noise. But we would definitely stay again because that’s the only con for us.

    Arcadia Lake

    Spacious sites with beautiful views

I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities and spacious sites at such an affordable rate. Fish cleaning stations, grill, fire pit, and solid picnic tables at every site make this one of the better places I've camped. It's quiet, spaced out well, and there is so much room between sites that you can't hear your neighbors unless they're really loud. The bathrooms need serious updating or I would have given 5 stars.

Guide to Noble

Lake Thunderbird State Park spans 6,000 acres near Noble, Oklahoma, with eleven distinct campground areas positioned around the central reservoir. The park sits at approximately 1,100 feet elevation and experiences temperature variations of up to 30 degrees between daytime and nighttime during spring and fall camping seasons. Each camping area offers different levels of access to park amenities, with varying proximity to the lake shoreline.

What to do

Hiking trails: The park offers accessible walking paths for all skill levels. "We got some good hiking in," notes Valerie C. about her experience at Little Axe Campground.

Mountain biking: Explore the network of trails throughout the park. "We are here for a few days and will come back again to do more. Great view of the dam and the lake from the dock and they allow one to bike and walk across the dam," reports Teresa T. about her visit to South Dam.

Archery range: Practice your skills at the dedicated archery facility. "In addition to water activities the park offers hunting, horse rental and boarding, equestrian trails, hiking, mountain biking, nature trails, a nature center, and an archery range," explained Stephen & Theresa B. during their stay at Little Axe.

Nature center programs: Visit the educational facility with ranger-led activities. "Ernie at the nature center is fantastic and the kids all had a blast," shared Tracy C. about her class trip to Critter Alley Campground.

What campers like

Waterfront campsites: Many sites provide direct lake views. "This was a back in site right on the water. We looked at some other areas where you were so far from the water you wouldn't even know you were at a lake," mentioned Jil S. about Little Axe Campground.

Shaded camping spots: Trees provide relief from summer sun. "Very nice under the trees with trails," noted Teresa T. about her experience at Hog Creek West.

Off-season tranquility: Weekday visits during non-summer months offer quieter camping. "We stayed Monday and Tuesday night and it was very quiet. Great and friendly host. Sites are nice and spread out so you're not right on top of each other," reports Rick about his stay at Turkey Pass.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple fishing spots throughout the park. "Nice little peninsula, watched the sun come up over the water. Quiet and flat camp spot," described Jay F. about his experience at Little Axe.

What you should know

Water quality concerns: The lake water has a distinctive color. "Typical central Oklahoma red water. As far as that is concerned nothing has really changed," explains Brian B. about his experience at Little Sandy Campground.

Bathroom maintenance varies: Facilities differ between campgrounds. "Bathrooms are older but clean. Showers have HOT water," noted Rod A. about Turkey Pass Campground.

Weekend crowds: Expect busier conditions Friday through Sunday. "If you have a 30 amp rv/camper you can get a spot at one of the 3 decent Thunderbird parks most of the time same day no reservation. If you have a 50 amp better go parkit on Thursday so you have a weekend spot," advises Nicholas L.

Security concerns: Watch your belongings at all times. "There is a bunch of smash and grab break ins here. Just happened to me yesterday. Was only on a hike literally 20 minutes came back and my passenger side window was busted out," warned Kristy B. about Clear Bay Point.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer child-friendly play areas. "Perfect for biking/scooters/walking/swimming. I will try to stay on the outer rim the next time we go, so that we can enjoy meals by the water," recommends Noelle H. about Little Axe Campground.

Swimming areas: Designated swimming zones provide safer water recreation. "There is a designated swimming area in the campgrounds. Beautiful, wooded park with large lake that has a section for watersports and fishing," shares Noelle H.

Group camping: Critter Alley accommodates larger parties. "Came with a group of four had plenty of room to for all tents and to make a fire," mentions Lani H. about her experience at Critter Alley.

Nature education: Take advantage of the nature center. "The visitor center was quite nice and the staff quite friendly. We only stayed for a night but we had enough time to walk the trails close which were very nice," observed Teresa T. about Hog Creek West.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose carefully based on your preferences. "The problem is the road to get to the campsite is TERRIBLY maintained, which much of the rest of the park also seems to be. Beware the Hog Hill area - it's just a parking lot with sites numbered along the edge," warns Deb M. about Hickory Hill.

Tree clearance: Watch for low-hanging branches. "Trees need to be trimed from the campground, you will get your rig scratched. We have a 40 foot fifthwheel and was able to find several sites that would work fot sat dish," advises RICK V. about Turkey Pass.

Campsite spacing: Some areas offer more privacy than others. "If you don't mind being right up against the next camper, Hickory Hill has some full hookup sites right on the water. However, the upper loop of Little Sandy was nice with all the trees and the better-spaced sites," shares Brian B.

Hookup options: Different campgrounds offer varying services. "50 amp, water, sewer dump station on the way out, concrete pad, picnic table under the shade tree, fire pit, 5g T-Mobile cell service," details RICK V. about the amenities at Turkey Pass.
