Silver Springs Campground's fenced dog park with swimming beach provides a standout amenity for pet owners camping near Willoughby, Ohio. The campground offers electric hookup sites for $18 per night with pets welcome throughout the property. Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday features two separate dog parks and private fenced dog sites with pull-through access, making it particularly accommodating for travelers with pets. Most campgrounds in the area maintain standard leash policies when pets are outside designated off-leash areas. The dog park at Silver Springs, known as Bow Wow Beach, includes a swimming area exclusively for dogs, a rock climbing apparatus, and even a decorative fire hydrant. Campers consistently note the immaculate condition of these pet areas, with lush grass maintained throughout the year.

Bow Wow Beach remains accessible even to campers with dog-aggressive pets by visiting during early morning hours when fewer visitors are present. Several campgrounds offer spacious sites that provide adequate room for pets to relax while leashed at camp. Geneva State Park Campground features paved pads with wooded sections behind each site, creating privacy buffers that benefit pet owners. The paved bike trail near Geneva State Park welcomes dogs, though the beach areas prohibit pets. Campers should note that some parks separate pet-friendly camping sections from non-pet areas, which can limit access to certain amenities like playgrounds and swimming beaches when traveling with dogs. Wildlife encounters are possible throughout the region, so keeping pets leashed and supervised remains essential for their safety.

      Silver Springs Campground

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

      West Branch State Park Campground

      Great Site

My wife, 2 dogs, and I came with no reservation. They gave us a temporary tag to drive around and see what site we wanted. We ended up going to site 190 which had a decent amount of space to tent camp. The amenities were great. Clean shower and toilets in a well lit building.  There is also a dog park with a pond 2 minutes up the road which was great to wear the dogs out at. The only complaint I have is the site was a little close to our neighbor for our liking but we would go back!

    Guide to Willoughby

Camping opportunities near Willoughby, Ohio center around Lake Erie's southern shoreline and the nearby Cuyahoga Valley region. The area sits at approximately 620-800 feet elevation with humid continental climate conditions that include warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Most campgrounds remain open from April through October, with limited winter camping options and seasonal water shutoffs occurring after the first frost, typically in mid-October.

    What to do

Fishing access: Punderson State Park Campground offers a lake with multiple fishing spots. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," notes Rebecca G., who also mentions the "beautiful setting" of the campground.

Trail exploration: The West Woods features diverse hiking options for all skill levels. "Great small park with a hiking trail that takes about an hour or hour and a half, it has a waterfall, small tiny cave, bridges and stairs. Really well maintained paths, tiny gravel for less mud," says Kayla S., who also mentions that "there's also a short overlook path that starts at the nature center."

Water activities: Geneva State Park Campground provides direct lake access with swimming areas. "Great campground with bike trails leading all the way in to Geneva By the Lake where you will find entertainment for the family," shares Linda R., highlighting the connectivity to nearby attractions.

Beachfront relaxation: Perry Township Park sits directly on Lake Erie with beach access. "There's only a few sites available. The rest are seasonal sites. The campground is adjacent to the small community park and baseball fields. Very well maintained and quiet. As an added bonus it is right next to Lake Erie," writes Jeff & Alison H.

    What campers like

Unique camping sites: Punderson State Park offers specialized tent sites. "Really cool 'hill' sites that you have to hike up or down 20-100 feet to your wooded site," notes Daniel U., who appreciates the "beautiful scenery, very large park" with "lots of secluded and shaded sites."

Waterfront views: Lake Erie Bluffs provides scenic camping spots with lake vistas. "Really awesome spot. Site was a walk-in site with plenty of room. Fire wood and kindling were at the site waiting for us when we got there. We had a perfect view of the sunset from the site," says Jenna H., who enjoyed the "sounds from the lake and birds."

Pet-friendly amenities: While many campgrounds welcome dogs, Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday stands out with specialized facilities. "Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites (2) - pull through site," mentions Marla S. in her review, demonstrating why this is a top dog friendly campground near Willoughby.

Proximity to attractions: The Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA serves as a good base for regional exploration. "We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love," notes Jennifer H.

    What you should know

Site conditions vary significantly: Many campgrounds have uneven terrain that affects setup. At Punderson State Park, "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground," cautions Coy.

Reservation timing: Most popular campgrounds require advance booking. "Reservations must be made 3 days in advance, so no spur of the moment get aways," mentions Jen L. regarding The West Woods.

Off-season considerations: Water access points typically close earlier than campgrounds. The paved bike trail near Geneva State Park stays open longer than beach facilities, which typically close after Labor Day.

Bathroom facilities: Silver Springs Campground has limited facilities. "Bathrooms are just port-a-johns located on either side of the campground but there are flushable toilets a little walk away," explains Abbey E., noting the campground remains "small and peaceful" despite basic amenities.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: The Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA offers multiple family amenities. "Swimming (wish it were open a little later…), laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it," shares Jennifer H.

Space considerations: Some campgrounds provide more room between sites than others. "The sites are nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don't have a well compacted area for your tt/rv," notes Jeffrey L. about Silver Springs Campground.

Playground access: Punderson State Park Campground provides play areas for children. "The park is very well maintained, has a nice playground and cute camp store," writes Daniel U., making it a good option for families seeking pet-friendly campgrounds near Willoughby, Ohio with additional kid amenities.

Safety considerations: Parents should note water proximity at certain sites. At Lake Erie Bluffs, campsites sit atop the bluffs rather than at water level, creating natural barriers that help with child safety near water.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Electric service levels differ significantly between campgrounds. At Punderson State Park, "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service," warns Coy, suggesting RVers check power requirements before booking.

Pull-through availability: Some parks offer easier access sites. "Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through," describes Marla S. about Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday.

Site spacing: RVers appreciate room to deploy slides and awnings. At the Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, Jennifer H. appreciates that "sites were wide" and notes "it's always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide."

Leveling challenges: Many RVers mention bringing extra leveling blocks. "The campsite were nice and large. There are porta potties on site but a bathroom with sinks is somewhat of a walk," explains Miranda M. about Silver Springs Campground, emphasizing site size as a positive despite basic facilities.
