Mohican State Park Campground and Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins accommodate pets throughout their various camping options, including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping facilities. Both destinations maintain clean, well-kept grounds where leashed pets can accompany their owners on hiking adventures. Sites at Mohican State Park offer spacious settings with picnic tables and fire rings, though some visitors note the terrain can be uneven in certain areas. Full hookup options are available for RV campers with pets at both locations, with Mohican Adventures featuring 50-amp electrical service. Dogs must remain supervised and on leashes no longer than six feet throughout the campgrounds and on trails. Many campsites end up as large puddles after rainfall, making waterproof gear essential for dogs during wet seasons.

Several miles of well-groomed, pet-friendly trails wind through the Mohican area, with the Class B primitive campground providing riverside sites particularly popular among dog owners. The park's newly dedicated swinging bridge offers a unique walking experience for leashed pets and their owners. During summer months, the Mohican River attracts numerous visitors, creating a lively atmosphere that may overwhelm some pets. Indoor facilities at Mohican Adventures provide weather alternatives when outdoor conditions aren't suitable. Winter camping remains available at Mohican State Park with one heated bathroom and shower facility kept operational year-round. Portable toilets serve the primitive camping areas where many backpackers bring their dogs to enjoy more secluded experiences. The campground store sells necessities, though bringing pet supplies from home is recommended as pet-specific items are limited.

      Wally World

Beautiful campground, just don’t trust your GPS

We are exploring Ohio for a couple of weeks and decided to do a week at Wally World since we are TRA members. It’s not a huge campground, but it’s well maintained. The store is nice, the sites are pretty level, the pool is decent, and the staff here are pleasant. The campground itself is nestled in the bend of the Mohican river, so most sites have a river view even if you aren’t on a Riverside site. Only downside is most of the sites don’t have a sewer hookup so make sure to bring a portable tank if you are staying for more than a couple of days.

Getting here proved to be tricky, as it seems all of the GPS apps and my Garmin routed us on a county road that is not fit for RVs of any type. To find this place, search for 1 Wally Bridge, Loudonville, OH and then follow Wally Road a few miles to the campground. Do note the bridge you need to cross has a weight limit of 10 tons, so larger rigs will need to come up Wally Road from the south. If your GPS says to take ANY township roads, just don’t. They are not paved, steep, and/or have sharp turns.

The campground is about 10 mins from Loudonville, and it’s a nice little town with a couple of good places to eat. If you need groceries, the IGA is a great place to go. It’s a small store, but we’ll stocked with good meats, vegetables, and most things you’d need. They even bagged our groceries AND loaded them into our car!

      Alum Creek State Park Campground

      The dog’s favorite campground!

This was the only park we’ve gone to this uear with both a large dog park AND a fenced in dog beach! Folks were friendly at the dog park with bunches of chairs set around like a conversation pit. Lots of water and dog tennis balls were available.

The dog beach was fenced so your dog can be off leash. There is even a fenced in area out in the water to keep the pooches from swimming across the Lake chasing geese.

The campground itself was quite nice and spacious. Some of the most private camping sites I’ve seen in Ohio. Shower facilities we a bit above average mad seemed to be looked after at least once a day (we were there in the off season).

IMHO, one of the nicest campgrounds in the state.

      Cross Creek Camping Resort

      Very nice resort

We stayed two nights here on our tour of Ohio. After staying in state parks, the narrow sites are close with no privacy. Our pull through site was on the (inner) road, so lots of golf carts, cars and campers passing by. All pull through sites are on the road side. The site is not level and our leveling system has the front wheels off the ground. Many full time units here beautiful patios and decor. Staff is nice and friendly. Trash pickup isn’t offered and the walk to dumpster would be excessive for unfit or handicapped. We would stay again. Amenities are clean, as described and dog Park is immaculate but small.

      Alum Creek State Park Campground

Beautiful State Park close to Columbus Ohio

Alum Creek State Park is a beautiful park and great campground just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Columbus and minutes away from attractions such as the Columbus Zoo.

The campground has good sized sites and is wooded throughout with clean bath houses, well maintained roads, and easy access for big rigs.

There is also a very nice dog park in the park including dog beaches with lake access for your pups to swim.

We love this campground and the beautiful lake and appreciate the easy access to local attractions, shopping, and more.

      Alum Creek State Park Campground

Would be 5 star except for this

Alum Creek is just beautiful, nice sites, most of them are at least partially shaded, lots of woods, hiking trails, the lake, it is what I think of when I think of State Park campground camping in Ohio. There are a couple problems. 1. Only ONE little dump station. This is a big campground, so if you're leaving Sunday, you better get up at the crack of dawn to get to the station, otherwise be prepared to wait in a long long line of RV's. We by-passed the long line and stopped at a different State Park campground on the way home and paid 10.00 to use their dump station. 2. They never answer their phone at the campground office. I mean NEVER. If you have a question you will just have to deal with the reserveamerica people who really know nothing other than what they read on the campground website. So basically you know as much as they do. It's maddening. We will go back, but it's a 2 hour drive so it won't be anytime soon.

      Alum Creek State Park Campground

      Alum Creek State Park Campground

great state park campground. There are some full hook ups but mostly just electric. They have pancake breakfast on Saturday mornings through summer and doughnuts on Sunday. Helpful camphost. There is a campground beach and boat launch. Lost of hiking paths in the campground and in the park area. A great dog park with lake entrance for the pups. tmThere is also some mountain bike trails. Plenty to do for everyone.

      Alum Creek State Park Campground

Beautiful State Park with extra perks for the Dogs

In addition to having a pretty lake, lovely campsites that are spread apart nicely, clean facilities, lots of shade, boat ramps, etc.. this park is unique for it's Dog Park facility.

2 large fenced in field areas. One for small dogs, and one for large. There is enough room for several games of dog frisbee to happen at once. Then, there are 2 large fenced in areas for lake access. Balls, dog doo bags, trash bins.. all there. Lots of shade, water fountains, and plenty of running room. I can't rave about this park enough!

The only downside is there is poison ivy lacing the trail from the campsite down to the water, and the Dog Park portion is about 2 miles from the campsites.

    Guide to Loudonville

Mohican State Park Campground and Mohican Adventures Campground and Cabins provide extensive options for pet friendly camping near Loudonville, Ohio. Located in the Clear Fork Valley of the Mohican River, this region features elevations ranging from 900-1200 feet and receives approximately 38 inches of rainfall annually. Most campgrounds in the area operate from April through October, though some like Mohican State Park maintain year-round facilities with varying levels of service.

    What to do

Hiking trails beyond the main park: Mohican Memorial State Forest offers free primitive camping through their Park and Pack program. "There are 10 free camp sites for backpackers in Mohican, each is about a mile hike in, no vehicles can reach these sites. There are 4 on the mountain bike trail and 6 on the horse trails, first come first serve, no reservations," explains John H. from Mohican State Park Campground.

Kayak trips on the Mohican River: Campers at Mohican Wilderness can access longer river routes. "We go every year and do the 20 mile kayaking trip, such a nice little spot along the river & the best way to kick off summer!" says Lexi K. The campground offers various trip lengths depending on water levels and time constraints.

Indoor activities for rainy days: When outdoor conditions aren't ideal, some campgrounds provide alternatives. "They have an indoor pool and shower building. The staff is friendly and the indoor pool and shower houses were amazing," notes Renee L. about Mohican Adventures Campground.

    What campers like

Riverside camping spots: Many visitors prefer sites with direct water access. At Pleasant Hill Lake Park, Andrea F. describes the appeal: "We arrived Friday late afternoon and set up in the rain. Didn't see much of the park on Friday, but Saturday we went exploring and saw the marina, beach, horse camp area, and walked some of the bridle trails. They also have playgrounds that are open and some food trucks in case you don't want to cook."

Large, well-spaced campsites: Mohican Wilderness receives praise for site spacing. "We have camped here 3 times now and even though it's a large park the sites are huge so you still feel like you can kick back and relax. Quiet neighbors and friendly staff plus everything is mowed and well maintained," reports Andrea F.

Free backcountry options: For those seeking more solitude with their pets, Park and Pack Campsite 10 offers a more remote experience. Ryan R. explains: "This was my second time enjoying Mohican State Forest's Park & Pack sites. Site 10 is about 3/4 of a mile down the trail from the upper parking area. Well marked and easy to find. There are plenty of areas to set up shelter and hang hammocks."

    What you should know

Water levels affect activities: River conditions vary seasonally. "The lake was high this weekend and the beach was a bit under water, but still fun. The boats and sounds of summer with children laughing and splashing while adults sit on the sand," notes Tina D. about Pleasant Hill Lake Park Campground.

Cell service limitations: Don't count on staying connected. "No cell service with Verizon at this park," advises Andrea F. about Mohican State Park. Similarly, at Park and Pack Site 2, a reviewer mentions "No cell phone service for Verizon at this time."

Terrain challenges for RVs: Some campgrounds have difficult access roads. Gregory L. warns about Wally World: "Getting here proved to be tricky, as it seems all of the GPS apps and my Garmin routed us on a county road that is not fit for RVs of any type. To find this place, search for 1 Wally Bridge, Loudonville, OH and then follow Wally Road."

    Tips for camping with families

Off-season camping with kids: For families seeking quieter experiences with pets, consider shoulder seasons. Andrea F. shares about Charles Mill Lake Park Campground: "There is a beach side and a lake side both are nice. We have stayed on both. There is a lake with a boat launch near by a playground and beach for families to swim. Kid friendly activities available while we were there."

Look for campgrounds with activity options: Multiple recreation choices keep children engaged. "This is a family friendly campground with lots to do. They offer on river and off river sites. Open grassy or wooded sites. The sites are spacious and with the option to park your trailer where you want. They are full of amenities like: horse back riding, shooting sports, canoeing, playground, swimming lake, putt putt and more," Shannon P. says about Mohican Reservation.

Consider tent camping areas for families: Some campgrounds offer specific sections better suited for families with pets. Jenny K. notes about Mohican State Park: "As far as tent camping goes, it does not get any easier than this. Everything is clean and well organized. Perfect for first time campers."

    Tips from RVers

Check hookup availability seasonally: Water access changes throughout the year. Andrea F. notes about Mohican State Park: "Camping in the off season is our favorite time of year. This particular park has potable water on by the dump station and the dump station is open. The water at the full hook up sites are turned off."

Consider portable waste tanks for longer stays: Not all campgrounds offer full hookups. One camper advises about Wally World: "Only downside is most of the sites don't have a sewer hookup so make sure to bring a portable tank if you are staying for more than a couple of days."

RV site variations between campgrounds: Layouts differ significantly across the area. At Toodik Family Campground, Jim G. describes: "This campground has seasonal sites and plenty on regular sites. They have an outdoor pool, game room, mini golf and a canoe livery."
