Huron River Valley Resort's spacious sites accommodate campers with pets along the scenic Huron River shoreline, earning a perfect 5-star rating from visitors. This pet-friendly campground offers full hook-up RV sites and tent camping areas where leashed dogs are welcome throughout the property. Located just 10 minutes from Lake Erie beaches, the resort provides dedicated pet waste stations and open green spaces for dog walking. Milan Travel Park, situated conveniently off Interstate 80, also welcomes pets with a clean, well-maintained campground featuring pull-through sites ideal for travelers with animals. The grounds include plenty of room to walk dogs, though sites are placed relatively close together. East Harbor State Park and Sandusky Bayshore KOA round out the pet-friendly options in the area, both offering cabin accommodations that accept well-behaved pets.

Cedar Point attractions sit just 15-20 minutes from most Huron-area pet-friendly campgrounds, making these locations ideal base camps for exploring the region with four-legged companions. Sandusky Bayshore KOA features a dedicated off-leash Kamp K9 dog park where large dogs can play freely, particularly appreciated by guests traveling with Labrador retrievers. The campground's proximity to Lake Erie provides access to dog-friendly shorelines for water-loving pets. Most local campgrounds enforce standard pet policies including leash requirements in common areas, proof of current vaccinations, and cleanup responsibilities. Crystal Rock Campground and Camp Sandusky both permit pets in their rental cabins with additional pet deposits required. When visiting during summer months, sites with shade trees offer better protection for pets, as the open RV areas at some campgrounds provide little natural shade during hot weather.

      Middle Ridge/Vermilion Valley Rest Area

Hook up, dump station, quiet and immaculate rest stop ad well.

This is a test area on the Ohio Turnpike. Rv owners can self pay $20 to stay overnight. Quiet area away from the semis and common parking lot, but super close still to the plaza. The plaza offers 5 restaurants and vending machines, a gift shop, and clean restrooms. Sufficient area to exercise pets.

      Sandusky-Bayshore KOA

      Nice campground

We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back. Both times at the end of September. Nice campground, friendly staff, store is well stocked for anything you may have forgotten. The playground and jump mat for kids is awesome. They usually have some kind of activity for kids on weekends. We travel with 2 large Labrador retrievers and love being able to let them play off leash in the kamp k9 dog park. The sites are a little close together and the train is loud but other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Very close to Cedar Point.

      Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA

      Small basic campground near Toledo

Our site was $59.95 a night.

We were in Site# 504. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level. We were charged $25 additional for my jeep since we were towing the trailer. We also were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. They sell wood for $6 a bundle.

There is free WiFi, although not strong. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily before noon.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool but it is currently closed due to maintenance (although it just looked closed- no signs of maintenance being done).

There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes, corn hole, giant jinga.

They have a basic general store. There are not scheduled activities for kids.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes. This is an RV park with tent camping and cabins to rent.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $2.50 to dry a load.

They have a small fenced in dog park.

There isn’t tons to doin the actual city of Perryville. But Toledo is a 20 minute drive.

      Maple Lakes Campground

      A dream come true

This may be Heaven on Earth! The loveliest of settings. Friendly helpful staff- super well cared for nestled in the prettiest neighborhood. A little restrictive if you have pets. Guard gate and expansive grounds - lovely fishing pond; clean showed and bathrooms- excellent spacing between spaces. Found this place by accident, now will make it a destination on purpose in the future

    Guide to Huron

Huron-area campgrounds sit along Lake Erie's southern shore, with most locations within 20 miles of the lake. The region experiences warm summers averaging 80°F in July and August, with winter temperatures often dropping below freezing from December through February. Most campgrounds in the area open seasonally from April through October, though a few offer year-round accommodation with limited winter services.

    What to do

Water access for fishing: Several sites near Huron offer easy fishing access along Lake Erie's shoreline and connecting waterways. At East Harbor State Park Campground, campers can enjoy both pond and lake fishing opportunities. "The camp store has all the necessities you may have forgotten. I enjoy walking to the pond at night and flashlight frogs... It is a great place for birding, fishing, boating," notes Jaclyn B.

Biking routes around islands: Many Lake Erie island campgrounds feature excellent biking opportunities on relatively flat terrain. "We usually do kelleys island in the summer and Put-in-Bay in the offseason if we're headed this way," mentions Daniel U. about South Bass Island State Park Campground. Another camper adds, "The entire island is pretty rowdy during the summer so plan accordingly."

Boat launches and kayaking: Watercraft enthusiasts can find designated launch areas at several lakefront campgrounds. "The property has mature trees for good shade & there is easy water access for paddling & fishing," explains Blythe J. about South Bass Island. Similarly, at Findley State Park, "Canoes and kayaks are available for renting," according to Kimberly C.

    What campers like

Swimming options: Beyond the Lake Erie beaches, some campgrounds maintain dedicated swimming areas. At Huron River Valley Resort, campers appreciate the "Jumping Pillow and a pond for swimming," as Dawn S. mentions. The resort also provides "Activities for the kids during the day... And live music on the weekends."

Shade coverage: Trees provide welcome relief during hot summer days at certain campgrounds. At Findley State Park Campground, "We have enjoyed the shade at our site this week and the space between us and our neighbors," writes Kimberly C. The park features "quite a few trails and a lake with a beach for swimming," according to Linda R.

Evening entertainment: Several campgrounds host seasonal events and activities after dark. At Crystal Rock Campground, "Everyone in the office is so polite and courteous, the grounds, office, bathrooms, and showers are spotless, tons of amenities," says Matt W. Findley State Park offers impromptu entertainment as "Many musicians set up camp and would jam out for some live evening music!"

    What you should know

Site selection importance: The layout and positioning of campsites vary significantly across campgrounds. At East Harbor State Park, "The key is site selection... we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park. Section C was nice, though in hot sunny days there is very little shade to protect you. The other sections of the park have tall shade trees," advises Mark S.

Ferry requirements: Island campgrounds require ferry transportation, adding logistics and cost. For Kelleys Island State Park Campground, "You have to take a ferry to the camp ground. Kelley's Island Ferry in Marblehead. It is a few miles to camp ground so if you are renting and don't bring a vehicle you will want to rent a golf cart," explains Lauri J.

Highway noise levels: Some campgrounds experience traffic noise due to proximity to major roads. At Camp Sandusky, "There's a highway right across the tree line. While this is nice for travel, it was also really loud each morning to wake up to," reports Daniel J. Similarly, Milan Travel Park sits "right off of interstate 80," though Tracey S. notes "there isn't much road noise (depending on the location of your site)."

    Tips for camping with families

Dog friendly campgrounds near Huron: Many campgrounds welcome pets, but with varying accommodations. "The campground is right on the shore of Lake Erie, there are a few restaurants nearby. The sites vary in size, lots of shade trees where we camped," notes Michi P. about East Harbor State Park, a top pet-friendly option near Huron.

Playground facilities: Multiple campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. Camp Sandusky features "a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here," says Sammii D. The grounds also include "bunnies to feed, park, pedal cars to rent."

Tent site considerations: When camping with children in tents, site selection matters. Crystal Rock Campground can be "buggy" according to Brittany M., who recommends bringing "bugspray!" At Findley State Park, "Dirt in the campsites is packed super tight, it's hard to drive tent stakes. However, it's flat enough where it isn't really an issue," notes Evan D.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Full hookup options vary widely between campgrounds. At Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point, "Concrete pads. Level! Full hookups were simple to use... One of the thinks I liked best was there was a garbage can on every site!" reports Chuck E. The campground offers "Super nice concrete parking pads and hook ups."

Pull-through access: Several campgrounds provide pull-through sites ideal for larger rigs. Milan Travel Park has "Many level pull through sites... the ability to not have to unhook was important to us," explains Sue B. The campground has been "wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways," according to April J.

Site spacing: The distance between RV sites affects camping experience. At Lighthouse Point, "There were arborvitae trees between each site so plenty of privacy too," notes Elise A., while at Crystal Rock, sites "literally butted right next to three other sites and it just felt very cramped," according to Austin R.
