    Cross Creek Camping Resort

Big Resort with lots of trees

This is a RV resort close to a lake with a lot of seasonal campers. It is busy on the weekend but was very quiet during the week. The sites are close, but not unreasonably close. Good mix of pull through and back in and is big rig friendly. Plenty to do for the kids. Pool looks nice, was not open yet for the season.

    Cross Creek Camping Resort

    Excellent Campground!

Cross Creek Camping Resort in Delaware, Ohio is a very nice campground with friendly staff and lots of amenities! There are large back-in and pull-thru sites, each with grass, tree, picnic table, and fire pit. They are 30/50 amp with FHU. The campground has lots of fun things for the family such as swimming pool, playground, basketball, tennis, dog run, laundry, yard games, and so much more! The store is stocked with snacks, souvenirs, clothing, camping supplies, holiday decor, etc. We love the large shade trees at every site. It is a blessing on those hot summer days. All in all, a great campground! Check it out when in the area. 👍🏻😉

    Berkshire Campgrounds

    Incorrect pricing

The price advertised on The Dyrt is incorrect. It is not $38.50/day. We paid $50.29 with full hook ups. Very clean, staff very nice, but guests are not allowed without registering at the office. Many seasonal/full time residents which made for quite a bit of early morning traffic. Beautiful fishing pond with well groomed trails. Dogs are allowed off leash on the trails. Staff very pet friendly and courteous. Well appointed camp store. Water pressure excellent. Electric well within standard. Gravel pads, our site was off 2”.

Free WIFI available and able to connect at campsite

Dump Stations at Park exit have complimentary hoses

    Kiser Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet Park

This park is know for the lake that is kayak and canoe friendly since it doesn’t allow any kind of boat with a motor. It also features a beach , 2 playgrounds and several hiking trails. Just be careful if you hike with dogs since some trails intersect with a nature preserve which doesn’t allow pets.

The campground itself has 20 electric sites , 56 primitive sites and 4 camper cabins. All the electric sites are pull through and all sites have a fire pit but only the electric sites come with picnic tables.

Due to off season and COVID the camp store is closed and there is no camper host or park office staff around.

We did notice lots of downed trees on the poorly marked hiking trails. Some trails just started but no maps were around and no trails were blazed. It was hard to tell where we were headed or how long a trail was. I tried using the new Detour app and it wasn’t very accurate for this park.

We did have good Verizon cell coverage.

    Alum Creek State Park Campground

Beautiful State Park close to Columbus Ohio

Alum Creek State Park is a beautiful park and great campground just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Columbus and minutes away from attractions such as the Columbus Zoo.

The campground has good sized sites and is wooded throughout with clean bath houses, well maintained roads, and easy access for big rigs.

There is also a very nice dog park in the park including dog beaches with lake access for your pups to swim.

We love this campground and the beautiful lake and appreciate the easy access to local attractions, shopping, and more.

The area sits at approximately 1,200 feet elevation in west-central Ohio, making it one of the highest points in the state. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-85°F with higher humidity levels, while spring and fall camping seasons offer cooler temperatures with occasional rainfall.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Kiser Lake State Park Campground offers a motor-free lake ideal for fishing. "We really enjoy Kiser Lake, although there is only one spot for camping that we prefer. It is the only spot that it doesn't feel like you are right on top of your neighbors and actually has some tree coverage," notes one visitor who enjoyed kayaking on the calm waters.

Swimming areas: Arrowhead Lake RV Park & Campground maintains swimming ponds with jumping docks. "They have two ponds, one for fishing and one for swimming. The swimming one has a dock kids jump off but it only goes to about 3.5-4 feet deep at the deepest point," shares a camper who appreciated the affordable $45 nightly rate.

Miniature golf: Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort provides family recreation beyond typical campground activities. "Fun location just off the highway. Perfect for a family, has swimming pool, putt putt, and other child friendly activities... also has small fishing pond," explains a reviewer who found it convenient for both activities and town access.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Dayton KOA Holiday maintains well-kept grounds about 45 minutes from Bellefontaine. "Excellent rural setting. One of the nicer KOAs. Great staff and facilities. Mostly level sites. Grass, trees, and a pond all very well maintained," reports a satisfied guest who enjoyed the natural surroundings.

Weekend activities: Poor Farmer's Campground organizes regular social events for guests. "Very nice campground. Showers and bathrooms are nice. A stream that runs through the campground is nice for the kids to play in when it's too hot for them on the play ground. They usually have a lot of activities for the weekends planned," mentions a visitor who appreciated the family-friendly atmosphere.

Natural surroundings: Several rv sites near Bellefontaine, Ohio offer scenic views. "Clean family oriented and spacious. Well run facility w good restrooms and showers plus electri hook up per site. Out in farm country so very little light pollution overall," notes a camper who valued both the practical amenities and rural setting at Poor Farmer's Campground.

What you should know

Bathroom conditions: Facilities vary widely at campgrounds in the area. At Kiser Lake State Park Campground, "The campground has no full hookups but does have electric. RV sites have a view of the lake. Sites are clean and paved. There is a new shower house that's pretty nice, but the other bathrooms are pretty nasty. For $29 nightly it's a good campground."

Management styles: Some rv parks near Bellefontaine enforce strict rules. At Alton RV Park, "This place is small and quiet. That is the only good thing about park. Campfires not allowed. They yell at you for everything. We had our portable grill out and they told us we couldn't use it because it might ruin their grass," reports one unhappy camper, while others appreciate the resulting cleanliness.

Site configurations: Many campgrounds have distinct areas for different campers. "Sites are large for the weekend campers. The seasonal ones all have back in and the weekends are pull through which is kinda nice," explains a visitor to Arrowhead Lake RV Park, highlighting the practical layout benefits for short-term stays.

Tips for camping with families

Off-peak timing: Visit during weekdays when possible for quieter experiences. "We got in on a Thursday and it was decently quiet that day. They have some play areas for kids, a few hiking trails and a wetlands, but most people were fishing and kayaking," shares a first-time camper at Kiser Lake who enjoyed the Thursday arrival before weekend activities began.

Stream play: Sunset Springs RV Resort offers natural water features for children. "We absolutely loved it! Everyone was so friendly to us 'weekenders' and can't wait to come back," notes a family who enjoyed their experience despite rainy conditions, finding the stream a highlight of their stay.

Halloween activities: Consider autumn camping for special events. "I went the first weekend in October so they had a lot of families there because they had all sorts of Halloween activities going on," mentions a camper who noted that while not quiet, Kiser Lake provided excellent seasonal programming for families.

Tips from RVers

Alternative overnight parking: Love's RV Hookup in Bellefontaine provides convenient road access with basic services. "A little loud at times. Hardee's restaurant is a different option for meals," notes a traveler who found the location practical despite occasional noise.

Site selection strategies: RVers recommend requesting specific sites when possible. "Pull through we were assigned had very low hanging tree limbs. I called the office and asked if we could use space 41 instead. No problem! Everything is clean, well cared for, and really pretty," shares an RVer who successfully negotiated a better site at Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort.

Quick access options: Several campgrounds near Bellefontaine provide easy on/off highway access.
