Wylie Park Campground & Storybook Land

Cute campground in a nice area

We were there at a very quiet time. It's a pretty, well maintained park with two bath and shower houses. I think it may be a little snug for some at the busy time of the year. I've of the things I really like is that the shower stalls have a private area in front of them with a sink for shaving or whatever allowing you to do what you need without taking up space.

    Groton City Park

5 sites that are good for an overnight.

This is a small 5 site in town campground. It is connected to a large city park. Each site has 50 - 20 amp service. Each site has water and sewer. Picnic tables are available. No fire pits. Garbage dumpster next to campgrounds. Old and new trees on site. Bathrooms have a great deal to be desired. They are dirty and smell horribly. I've used pit toilets that are cleaner and fresher smelling. Night light next to bathrooms keeps area lit up at night. You need to back into sites from the street. Big rigs can get into 4 of 5 sites without interference from over hanging tree branches. Sites are paved, but they are old and starting to break up. It is located in a nice area.

    Melgaard Park

Sites are on top of each other, literally.

Beautifully shaded campground. A very large park to walk in. Sites are small, and each site has 2 campers, so your camper rear is nearly touching the next person's rear of their camper. Bathrooms are clean. No showers. Sites have 50-30-20 amp service. Honestly, this is NOT big rig friendly. The dump station is available. The water station is available across (the campground) from the dump station. Very busy road on west boarder. No fire pits. Tight maneuvering around the park. City maintenance building is here, so there is always lots of traffic. Picnic tables at each site.

    Lakeside City Park - Eureka

    Nice overnighter.

This campground has 18 sites. 1 - 13 are 30 - 20 amp service. Sites 14 - 18 are 50 - 30 -20 amp service. Located centrally in the park is a tornado shelter, kind of a nice touch. There are 4 fire pits to share between 18 sites. There is no sewer at locations. No water at locations, but they do have a hydrant located near the garbage dumpster. Bathrooms are OK clean. Showers are free. Campground is located next to high school athletic fields, so was very busy on Friday night. There is a beautiful Veterans Memorial across the street that was nice to walk through. Also across the street is a boat ramp and parking for a nice little lake. Grounds were mowed nicely and fairly clean of litter.

    Leola City Park

Nice and quiet, virtually no shade.

This is a very well maintained campground. No litter. Roads are level. Sites are gravel back in. Night lights (located between sites 10 - 11 and 3- 4) light up the north and south ends of the campgrounds very nicely. I counted 5 (spaced around)working water spigot for the 12 sites. Sites have 50 - 30 - 20 amp receptacles. (Site 11 was my first choice, stop, but it registered an open ground in the electrics.). Site 10 was fine. Playground has swings and a slide. There is also frisbee golf. The little lake has a boat dock and seating around it. Picnic house has electrical plug-ins and all the picnic tables (8). Sadly, the sites are very short. From the front of my tow vehicle to the back of my camper is around 22 feet, and both barely make it into the site.

    Lake Lamoure Campground

    Regular Lakeside camping

The campground is pretty but exposed would be hot in the summer. Has hookups water and sewer and there's a dump station around the corner. There's a beach boat dock fishing dock and a boat launch right here in this campground. Pit toilets no showers no other amenities. Beautiful view of the lake though and protected by the trees so it's a wildly windy day but not too bad we were camped.

    Weaver Park-Edgeley Campground

    Place to stop

Looks like they have about 15 sites You're essentially parked in the Sun. With hookups and a patch of grass but otherwise no shade and no activities so it must be for people who come to do sports or something else in town during the summer.

    Whitestone Hill Historic Site

This is a campground you can stay at across from the battlefield

There are no services here there's a bathroom a couple of picnic tables but it's a big wide open space that I'm sure you can park anywhere you want. The attraction of course is the Whitestone battlefield across the small lake from here which is walkable distance and has a memorial to what happened on that site.

Lake Hoskins RV Park & Campground

Cute park for locals or someone passing through for a night

We don't have time to stay but we definitely wanted to stop and see it. The park is small it has a couple of boat ramps some fishing docks playground toilets which were closed water which was off and looks like several people probably camp here long-term probably for a special rate. It's cute lots of trees the dam is within walking distance I'll put up some pictures if you needed a place to stay for the night I totally stay here.

    Doyle Memorial Park Campground

Tiny campground but great view of the lake

I'm in spot number one and I'm pretty much 360 surrounded by water it's very pretty. Nice breeze which should keep the bugs down and a small walk around with different fishing docks and swimming area. Bathrooms were older but clean and provide a shower and we're open and water and everything was turned on.

    Roscoe City Park

    Tables w/ grass

Pretty decent place for a quick stop and sleep, there are scattered charcoal grills, with covered tables. There's no real parking, just a place with a bit less grass. Bathrooms are always open. There is a 3 day camping limit but overall a pretty nice place.

    Great for families!

Great, clean park for families with young kids. Numerous playgrounds scattered all over with a small theme park. Sites have full hookups which make long stays more enjoyable. Will visit again!

    Roscoe City Park

Roscoe City Park is a welcomed surprise

The small town of Roscoe has a nice spot, three of them, for folks like us to stop for a spell and get off the road for a much needed rest.

The spots are near the bathroom house.

You’re within a small neighborhood, which is a little awkward, BUT they’ve created this specifically for this use.

Be smart, be courteous, & they’ll keep it available (for FREE) to use.

    Thank you Town of Roscoe!!

    Kulm City

    Kulm Campground

Convenient campground on the edge of the small town of Kulm. It has about 20 back in sites with water septic, and 30 and 50 amp hookups. No cable or WiFi. Sites are level and some have shade. Free swimming at the town pool next door when they are open.

Quiet midweek, lots of kids on weekends

The main campground itself at Wylie Park is rather attractive with mature trees and reasonable site spacing (there's a secondary North Campground that's newer with less mature vegetation). Pricing is a little high at $36+/night for FHU, but the reason folks come here is for the park's other amenities including Storybook Land, Wylie Lake, go-carts, bumper boats, mini-golf, etc. This place is a kids' paradise.

Which leads to the situation on weekends: this place is positively overrun with kids. Kids crying, kids riding their bikes through your campsite (and ill-informed adults, too). The geese in the waterfowl pond adjacent to the campground made quite the racket, too, but that didn't bother us. The kids did. Fine if that's your thing, but to a couple of 50-somethings without kids anymore, this was annoying.

Midweek, though, the place was terrific, maybe 50% occupied. Staff was friendly and welcoming.

    Mina Lake Recreation Area

    Stunningly gorgeous

While we're staying in the Aberdeen area we took time out today to scope out the campground at Mina Lake State Recreation Area, and it is absolutely beautiful. Well-spaced sites, nice grassy lawns, and most sites back up right to the water. As the facilities list says, sites are electric only but there are water hydrants spaced throughout the campground. They were unfortunately booked when we tried to reserve, for that would've been a stellar stay.

We found this area and decided to stay at this campground. So glad we did!! Beautiful area. We stayed a few days longer than we originally planned because we loved the area.
