Best RV Parks & Resorts near Forbes, ND

Forbes area RV camping options include Lake Hoskins RV Park & Campground with electric hookups, 50-amp service, and water connections on relatively open sites. Weaver Park-Edgeley Campground provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electric, sewer, and water connections approximately 25 miles from Forbes. Lake Lamoure Campground offers water and electric hookups with nearby dump station facilities, situated along the shoreline with some protection from trees. Most RV parks in the region feature back-in sites with limited pull-through availability, and gravel pads are standard. "Sites are small, and each site has 2 campers, so your camper rear is nearly touching the next person's rear of their camper," according to one visitor at a nearby park.

During summer months, parks throughout this section of North Dakota operate at full capacity, though most lack online reservation systems. Several campgrounds such as Kulm City feature both 30-amp and 50-amp service for motorhome travelers. Bathroom facilities vary significantly between locations, with some parks offering clean showers while others provide only basic pit toilets. For travelers needing overnight stays, small town parks like Dickey RV Park provide convenient stopover points along travel routes. One camper noted that the Edgeley area has "essentially parked in the sun with hookups and a patch of grass but otherwise no shade and no activities." Many parks close or reduce services during winter months, and propane fill service is generally unavailable at most area campgrounds.

    Melgaard Park

Sites are on top of each other, literally.

Beautifully shaded campground. A very large park to walk in. Sites are small, and each site has 2 campers, so your camper rear is nearly touching the next person's rear of their camper. Bathrooms are clean. No showers. Sites have 50-30-20 amp service. Honestly, this is NOT big rig friendly. The dump station is available. The water station is available across (the campground) from the dump station. Very busy road on west boarder. No fire pits. Tight maneuvering around the park. City maintenance building is here, so there is always lots of traffic. Picnic tables at each site.

    Leola City Park

Nice and quiet, virtually no shade.

This is a very well maintained campground. No litter. Roads are level. Sites are gravel back in. Night lights (located between sites 10 - 11 and 3- 4) light up the north and south ends of the campgrounds very nicely. I counted 5 (spaced around)working water spigot for the 12 sites. Sites have 50 - 30 - 20 amp receptacles. (Site 11 was my first choice, stop, but it registered an open ground in the electrics.). Site 10 was fine. Playground has swings and a slide. There is also frisbee golf. The little lake has a boat dock and seating around it. Picnic house has electrical plug-ins and all the picnic tables (8). Sadly, the sites are very short. From the front of my tow vehicle to the back of my camper is around 22 feet, and both barely make it into the site.

Lake Hoskins RV Park & Campground

Cute park for locals or someone passing through for a night

We don't have time to stay but we definitely wanted to stop and see it. The park is small it has a couple of boat ramps some fishing docks playground toilets which were closed water which was off and looks like several people probably camp here long-term probably for a special rate. It's cute lots of trees the dam is within walking distance I'll put up some pictures if you needed a place to stay for the night I totally stay here.

    Groton City Park

5 sites that are good for an overnight.

This is a small 5 site in town campground. It is connected to a large city park. Each site has 50 - 20 amp service. Each site has water and sewer. Picnic tables are available. No fire pits. Garbage dumpster next to campgrounds. Old and new trees on site. Bathrooms have a great deal to be desired. They are dirty and smell horribly. I've used pit toilets that are cleaner and fresher smelling. Night light next to bathrooms keeps area lit up at night. You need to back into sites from the street. Big rigs can get into 4 of 5 sites without interference from over hanging tree branches. Sites are paved, but they are old and starting to break up. It is located in a nice area.

    Kulm City

    Kulm Campground

Convenient campground on the edge of the small town of Kulm. It has about 20 back in sites with water septic, and 30 and 50 amp hookups. No cable or WiFi. Sites are level and some have shade. Free swimming at the town pool next door when they are open.

    Great for families!

Great, clean park for families with young kids. Numerous playgrounds scattered all over with a small theme park. Sites have full hookups which make long stays more enjoyable. Will visit again!

    Lakeside City Park - Eureka

    Nice overnighter.

This campground has 18 sites. 1 - 13 are 30 - 20 amp service. Sites 14 - 18 are 50 - 30 -20 amp service. Located centrally in the park is a tornado shelter, kind of a nice touch. There are 4 fire pits to share between 18 sites. There is no sewer at locations. No water at locations, but they do have a hydrant located near the garbage dumpster. Bathrooms are OK clean. Showers are free. Campground is located next to high school athletic fields, so was very busy on Friday night. There is a beautiful Veterans Memorial across the street that was nice to walk through. Also across the street is a boat ramp and parking for a nice little lake. Grounds were mowed nicely and fairly clean of litter.

    Lamoure County Memorial Park

    This place is awesome

Last time I was here was in the late 1980s but it has been very well maintained since then. There are both seasonal campers and overnight spots. First come, first serve. I really wish they would automate reservations. I came in on a Sunday night and loads of spots were available. There are very nice bathrooms and showers and each spot has electric and water. The place is beautiful so look at the pictures and give it a go. If they are full, you can go a few miles up the scenic drive to Dicky and stay there for the night.

There are a few different dump stations.

It may say online they have a laundry but they do not. There is a Historic park with multiple museums next door and a public golf course.

There is no access to the river. The James does not seem to be used like the Sheyenne with boating and such. Not sure why.

    Lake Lamoure Campground

    Regular Lakeside camping

The campground is pretty but exposed would be hot in the summer. Has hookups water and sewer and there's a dump station around the corner. There's a beach boat dock fishing dock and a boat launch right here in this campground. Pit toilets no showers no other amenities. Beautiful view of the lake though and protected by the trees so it's a wildly windy day but not too bad we were camped.

What to do

Fishing access: Lake Hoskins RV Park provides boat ramps and fishing docks for anglers seeking local catches. "The park is small it has a couple of boat ramps some fishing docks playground toilets which were closed water which was off and looks like several people probably camp here long-term probably for a special rate," notes Teresa T. about Lake Hoskins RV Park & Campground.

Frisbee golf courses: Several area parks include disc golf layouts for casual players. At Leola City Park, visitors can enjoy "frisbee golf. The little lake has a boat dock and seating around it," according to Bibs O.

Swimming opportunities: Some campgrounds offer swimming access during summer months. Kulm City Campground provides "Free swimming at the town pool next door when they are open," reports Steve H., making it a practical option during hot weather.

What campers like

Quiet midweek camping: Visitors appreciate the tranquility available outside peak times. At Wylie Park Campground, Marc G. notes, "Midweek, though, the place was terrific, maybe 50% occupied. Staff was friendly and welcoming."

Lake views: Waterfront sites offer scenic settings in an otherwise prairie landscape. "Beautiful view of the lake though and protected by the trees so it's a wildly windy day but not too bad we were camped," shares Teresa T. about Lake Lamoure Campground.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained grounds rank high with travelers. Roger G. describes Wylie Park as "a pretty, well maintained park with two bath and shower houses," while noting the shower stalls have "a private area in front of them with a sink for shaving or whatever allowing you to do what you need without taking up space."

What you should know

Limited amenities: Many smaller campgrounds provide basic services only. Regarding Dickey RV Park, Teresa T. explains it "sits in an oxbow of the James River. No real fishing or boating access within the campground and seemingly no activities except road biking if that's your thing."

Site spacing considerations: Campgrounds in the region often feature compact arrangements. Bibs O. reports at Leola City Park, "the sites are very short. From the front of my tow vehicle to the back of my camper is around 22 feet, and both barely make it into the site."

Weather exposure: Many sites lack natural shade coverage. Teresa T. describes Edgeley Campground: "Looks like they have about 15 sites. You're essentially parked in the Sun. With hookups and a patch of grass but otherwise no shade."

Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: Several parks offer play equipment for children. Lake Hoskins includes a playground area near the water features, while Leola City Park has a "playground with swings and a slide," according to visitor reviews.

Theme park access: Wylie Park Campground & Storybook Land offers exceptional children's activities. "Great campground with storybook park right next door," shares Jon C., while Mason adds it's a "Great, clean park for families with young kids. Numerous playgrounds scattered all over with a small theme park."

Weekend planning: Anticipate higher occupancy and noise levels during weekends. Marc G. reports Wylie Park is "positively overrun with kids" on weekends with "Kids crying, kids riding their bikes through your campsite," but midweek stays are much quieter.

Tips from RVers

Electrical service verification: Test hookups before settling in. One RVer at Leola City Park notes, "Site 11 was my first choice, stop, but it registered an open ground in the electrics. Site 10 was fine."

Water access points: At some campgrounds, water spigots are shared between multiple sites. Leola City Park has "5 (spaced around) working water spigot for the 12 sites," according to visitor reports.

Dump station locations: Plan ahead for waste disposal. Lake Lamoure Campground offers water and electric hookups with "a dump station around the corner," useful information for planning longer stays.
