Best RV Parks & Resorts near Franklin, NC

Franklin's RV parks include Riverbend RV Park-Campground with electric and water hookups, The Great Outdoors RV Resort featuring full hookups and big-rig friendly sites, and Pines RV Park and Cabins offering 30-amp service with water and sewer connections. Several parks provide level concrete or gravel pads with enough space for slideouts, though site dimensions vary significantly between locations. Cullasaja River Campground and Deer Springs RV Park accommodate larger motorhomes with 50-amp service and sewer hookups. Most parks maintain year-round availability with sites ranging from 30-35 feet, though some can accommodate rigs up to 42 feet in length. "Lou meets you at the office and guides you to your campsite and politely offers to guide you in. We used his help and he guided us in to an inch of the cement pad for our front porch."

Sharp mountain turns present navigation challenges for longer RVs at several parks, particularly when accessing dump stations where steeper exits may cause longer trailers to drag. Many RV parks near Franklin maintain reliable cellular service, with one reviewer noting Verizon provided adequate coverage for streaming and working. Pet policies vary between properties, with most allowing pets but enforcing leash requirements. During peak seasons from late spring through fall, advance reservations are essential as the limited number of premium sites with mountain views book quickly. Nearby towns provide propane filling services, with one camper mentioning they used the Tractor Supply in a neighboring community rather than purchasing at campground rates.

Little River Campground & RV Resort

    Such a gem!

Husband and I wanted to get away and found this campground- it is such a gem! You can't see it well from the road, but there is a huge sign out by the road. Trust it! You're in the right place. You drive across a small bridge across the Little River when you get to the campground, but it can handle big rigs. We saw many massive Class A campers while we were here for 6 nights. We pull a 30 ft travel trailer and used a pull through site- very large spot as far as rv sites go. They have back in spots for campers and tents literally on the bank of the river and you're allowed to swim, play, tube, etc in the river at your own risk. Camp store has firewood and a few essentials, but they don't sell propane. We got ours filled at the Tractor Supply in Alcoa, TN nearby. They had crafts and hayrides while we were here. Wifi is free but not great. Verizon cell service was good enough at 3 bars the whole time. No on-site laundry services, so we had to go into town to use laundromat (nearby town of Townsend is adorable but no laundromat). The grounds offer tent, cabin, and rv sites with various levels of electric, water, cable and sewer access. Our site had 30amp, water, sewer and cable. Nice and level site, large fire pit, sturdy plastic and metal picnic table and large beautiful mature trees. The bathhouse is seriously impressive and is, by far, the nicest campground bathhouse I've ever used! One of my favorite features was random and I never knew I was missing it in my life until now.. the bathrooms have strong AC pumping right into each bathroom, making everything nice and cool when you come in from the hot campsite.. wonderful! Good view of the mountains in the distance and minutes away from Great Smoky Mountain National Park entrance. This is a wonderful find!

    LOCATION

The location is incredible! We enjoyed the accessibility of hiking, biking and fishing right from the campground. ART LOEB trailhead is right outside the campground entrance and is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Several loops and even sites provide access to the river for fishing. Just outside the campground are endless trails and several beautiful waterfalls that can be accessed within a 5-15 min car ride. Convenient to a few restaurants, grocery stores and even a Walmart (which is slightly dodgy so be warned).

    SITE

014 WOAK site is an RV site. It’s spacious and very private. We loved how much room we had to spread out and entertain as we were traveling with several other camping families. Our site was the go to spot! Backing in wasn’t difficult. It was convenient that the pull through site across from us was vacant, this made backing in super easy. There are no hookups on this site. So be sure you have a generator! One bonus on the location of this site is the water access just feet away. We needed to fill up and had forgot to do so when we pulled in to the campground. What a relief to see a water access just steps from the campsite! The only downside was that generator hours are very limited. If you are traveling during warmer months or must have AC, this is not the site for you. We felt that the tree coverage really provided us protection from the heat and did very well without AC in early August.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Slide Rock is a natural water slide that is fun for the whole family. Yes… it’s COLD and honestly worth every moment of chilly suffering.

    • Hiking is abundant and all levels are accessible within minutes to a few miles of the campsite. Our favorites are: Looking Glass Falls (steps going down make this a breeze), Moore Cove Falls is a MUST and an easy trail that leads to the perfect waterfall for a good photo, Looking Glass Rock is a moderate to difficult hike and worth it. Looking Glass Rock is a long hike so be prepared to go early and bring a rain jacket.

    • Fishing right within the campground makes it perfect for an early morning or late afternoon activity. The hatchery is nearby and offers some wonderful opportunities to catch and release. Be sure to look in to a guided tour for a hands on experience filled with lots of educational info on local fish.

    • Biking is a top activity for lots of overnight and day campers. The Art Loeb Trail provides endless miles that proves fun for the whole family.

    • Ice Cream at Dolly’s should make your list if you love a refreshing treat. This iconic little stop if right by the entrance to the Pisgah Forest and just around the corner from the campground. Also a great spot for a cell signal!

    • Breweries aren’t hard to find nearby. Small microbreweries are within a few minutes and Sierra Nevada Brewery is 25 minutes away.

    DON’T FORGET

    • Generator (in case your site doesn’t offer electric)
    • Headlamps and Flashlights (tree coverage is heavy so it gets darker faster)
    • Fishing Poles
    • Rain Jackets (it rained almost daily in the afternoon)
    • Cordless Leaf Blower (for removing leaves from slide outs)

    Townsend-Great Smokies KOA

Right outside of Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Amazingly clean campgrounds 10 minutes from the entrance of the National Park and 20 minutes from the Visitor's Center.

You have a choice of "rustic" tent sites, tent sites with water/electric/cable hook-ups, RV, or Cabins. All sites are pet-friendly including cabins. All camp sites include fire pit and picnic table.

Lots of amenities are included in your stay. 2 bathroom areas, 1 shower area, pool, wi-fi, etc.

There's a general store in front of the campgrounds with gas station and small cafe attached. The general store will even deliver your purchased firewood to your site.

This Koa is near a lot recreational places and some restaurants. Also near towns like Gatlinburg, Pidgeon Forge and Knoxville.

    A nice vacation spot.

    Cades Cove Campground

    Quite, beautiful, weekend traffic

This is one of the quietest campgrounds I’ve stayed at. Sites are nestled in the woods in a cove in the Smokies. No cell service. No internet. No cable tv. Just peace and quiet! This is a national park campgrounds, so no water, electric or hookups. There is a dump station and modern bathrooms. Cold water showers. There is a camp store with basics. There is a lot of traffic especially on weekends with visitors driving the scenic Cades Cove Loop Road.

    Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA Campground

    Glamping in Pigeon Forge

This is not exactly the camping in the woods without hookups atmosphere. This is more of a every want/need met glamping RV Resort. And it’s awesome!

The RV sites are large and level, full hookup. There are gorgeous cabins that look more like tiny homes, and the atmosphere at this park is a great way to retreat. 100 ft max for RVs.

Very kid friendly, pet friendly (Kamp K9), lots in the area to go do and see. Pools, hot tub, kitchen, firewood for sale, fishing access, snack bar, cable tv, and WiFi.

The staff here is awesome, very helpful and knowledgeable. The park is very clean and well kept.

Cellular service for TMobile was not very strong but AT&T provided plenty for streaming and working.

Guide to Franklin

Franklin's RV sites sit in the western North Carolina mountains at elevations between 2,000-3,500 feet, creating temperate camping conditions even in summer months. Most campgrounds near Franklin maintain reliable cell coverage, with Verizon providing adequate signal for basic work and streaming needs at many locations. Concrete pads with picnic areas are standard at higher-end parks, while more rustic options feature gravel sites with basic amenities.

What to do

Waterfall exploration: Several campgrounds provide convenient access to the Cullasaja River waterfall system. "Right along the Cullasaja river you have easy access to swimming and boating or you can drive a mile or two up the road and get to some amazing swimming holes with cliff jumping and natural water slides," notes a camper at Cullasaja River Campground.

Downtown Franklin access: Campers staying at Riverbend RV Park-Campground appreciate the proximity to town. "Great campground for RVers near downtown Franklin, NC. Staying here you will be super close to some amazing hiking and also the many activities on the Cullasaja river. You can easily go out for the night in Franklin and explore the rest of the beautiful area," writes one visitor.

Hiking trails: The Appalachian Trail and Bartram Trail access points are within easy driving distance of most Franklin campgrounds. "AT and Bartram trail access nearby, lake and river are close," mentions a camper staying at Pines RV Park.

What campers like

Attentive management: Many reviewers praise the personal service at Pines RV Park and Cabins, where the owners help with parking. "Lou insisted on helping me back into my site so that my door was perfectly placed on the picnic table pad. He showed me the hookups and amenities of the camp," writes one satisfied guest.

Recreational facilities: Several RV sites near Franklin offer on-site activities. The Great Outdoors RV Resort provides numerous options: "There are many activities to keep family members occupied, including a playground, basketball, corn hole, soccer nets, community fire pit (you can rent a private firepit), and in-season, a pool."

Peaceful settings: Creekside sites are highly sought after at Nantahala RV resort & Campground, where "the sites are very spacious and have cute rock fire pits with benches set around it. The creek is beautiful."

What you should know

Cash-only policies: Several parks including Pines RV Park operate with limited payment options. "They do only accept cash or checks, but I'd absolutely recommend Pines for your travel break," notes one camper.

Arrival time restrictions: Late check-ins may not be accommodated at certain campgrounds. "The only issue I have is that if you are not there by 5pm, they will not park you so don't plan to arrive after work on a Friday and hope to spend the long weekend," explains a visitor to The Great Outdoors RV Resort.

Road noise consideration: Highway proximity affects some campsites. "While this RV park was clean and well-maintained, it was also located on a busy road, so road noise was always present," observes a camper at Willow Valley RV Resort. Another visitor notes, "After being assured our lot along 246 would be quiet, I was quite disappointed and got poor sleep. Lots of road noise."

Tips for camping with families

Recreation room activities: For rainy days, several campgrounds provide indoor options. "They have a rec room with ping pong, pool, and puzzles. Horse shoes are also available," mentions a visitor at Pines RV Park.

Swimming options: Heated pools extend the swimming season at select rv sites near Franklin, North Carolina. "The amenities are wonderful, one being that the pool is heated!" writes a camper at Willow Valley RV Resort.

Dog-friendly areas: Many campgrounds accommodate pets with dedicated spaces. "Reasonable size dog park, dog walk and outside dog bath," notes a visitor at Willow Valley RV Resort, highlighting features beyond standard pet-friendly policies.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choosing the right campsite layout makes a difference. "We stayed at site 6, which is creekside, and has a fire pit, four benches, and a fire pit. Sitting out by the creek was very peaceful!" shares a camper at Nantahala RV Resort.

Internet connectivity: WiFi quality varies significantly between campgrounds. "They have super fast WiFi so didn't need our tailgater and just used the smart TVs," notes a visitor at Willow Valley RV Resort, while another camper cautions at a different location: "Very frustrated with the almost non-existent Wifi. Couldn't download much of anything or post anything or watch anything."

Navigation challenges: Access to some campgrounds requires careful driving. As one camper at Whistle Stop Depot RV Park points out, "The campsite is also located very close to Cullassaja falls and the road to Highlands," which features tight mountain turns that can be challenging for larger rigs.
