Best RV Parks & Resorts near West Coxsackie, NY

Several RV parks near West Coxsackie accommodate various camping needs. Thousand Trails Rondout Valley offers big rig friendly sites with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections, operating from April through November. Schodack Island State Park Campground provides electric sites with 30/50 amp service suitable for larger rigs, plus boat access and a dump station. Camp Catskills RV Park features 40 sites with electric, sewer, and water hookups in a more compact setting. Interlake RV Park & Campground offers full hookup sites with 50 amp service and operates from April through October. "The sites are amongst the most spacious I've ever seen. RV sites offer 30/50 amp electricity. There are several hiking trails, a bike trail, a really awesome playground, boat dock, and lots of picnicking."

Throughout the Catskills region, cell service varies significantly between campgrounds, with most reporting 1-3 bars for both AT&T and Verizon. During peak fall foliage season, advance reservations are essential as RV sites fill quickly. Navigation to mountain parks may present challenges for larger rigs, with some reviewers noting tight turns and narrow roads. Most campgrounds are pet-friendly but require current rabies documentation beyond just tags. Dump stations are available at most parks, though not all offer on-site sewer hookups. A review mentioned: "We have a large 5th wheel RV, and we were assured that it would fit. It did - technically. We were within 2 inches or less of trees on 4 or 5 instances getting in and out of our site, and I had to drive off of the road on several occasions to make it through."

    Blue Mountain Campground

    Family friendly/ rocky tent campsite’s

Located in the Catskills. This is a family friendly there’s bathrooms/showers playground, pool, potable water and a outdoor pavilion. Located near hiking in the Catskills and 15 mins to Woodstock.

The tent site are very richly and uneven, it was very hard to pitch a tent. When it rains theres a horrible smell across the campground.

    Schodack Island State Park Campground

    Spacious State Park

I’ve yet to have a bad experience at a state park. They are always better maintained and are typically more beautiful and interactive than national park campgrounds and even most RV parks.

The sites are amongst the most spacious I’ve ever seen. RV sites offer 30/50 amp electricity. There are several hiking trails, a bike trail, a really awesome playground, boat dock, and lots of picnicking.

The bathrooms are clean. The showers are large, but they do operate on a push system where you can’t adjust the pressure, temp, or how long the water comes out, so just be aware of that. Lots of water fill ups in the campground. Dump station on the way out. Two different book exchanges. Mostly filled with Danielle Steele, which is not my preference, but maybe someone will spice it up in the future.

ATT and Verizon fluctuate between 1-3 bars. It was enough for me to work - downloading files, sending emails, and conducting non-video zoom calls. At night we were able to stream with just a little buffering needed throughout.

Lots of bunnies, weasels, chipmunks, birds, and butterflies. Plenty of space to walk the dog. Be sure to bring your dogs rabies records!! They don’t let you in with just the tag, it has to be the paper records. We’re full time so not a problem as it’s always with me, but they are very strict on rabies requirements

    Definitely recommend.

    Krawczyk Farm

    Beautiful property

Dolores had great communication with us, and we should have followed her written email instructions rather than rely upon the Get Directions link on The Dyrt which took us to the wrong location. We were here for just an overnight. While we found the concrete pad on which to park, we were unable to get onto it with our travel trailer because of the tight parameters in which to manuever. We were, however, able to level-up on the gravel drive next to it and plug into the electric. Next morning we were able to see how we could have possibly gotten onto the pad by circling around through the *wet* grassy field and pulling through onto the pad.  Dolores was apologetic that she wasn't there to help us understand the process.  It is a beautiful property and convenient to town.

    Spacious Skies Woodland Hills

    A peaceful place with character.

My first visit to New York state was amazing, largely in part due to my campsite at the Woodland Hills campground. I had a back in site and was having problems with my camper, and they were able to change to a pull through at time of check in. However, it was in early May and before the summer crowds. The pond has a fountain which sounds like a small waterfall at night, and wildflowers were in bloom. Very nice bathrooms and showers, and my dog loved the dog park.

    Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground

Great campground, though hard to find

Savoy mountain campground is a very nice state park camp, but don’t rely on gps to get you there it will put you on the wrong end of the park in the middle of a rural neighborhood. The park is so hard to find that not even a cell signal can get there, if your looking to unplug this is a great spot!Use the directions provided on the website, they are far more reliable. Very clean park, convenient clean restroom/shower building and helpful staff. There are RV sites and there is a dump station/potable water fill station available at the park entrance, but no RV hook ups of any kind. Sites are spacious and many shaded sites have decent privacy though open field sites are also available, bear boxes are provided at each site as this is black Bear country. Ample hiking to be done in the park and you can access the Mohawk trail right from the campground, the Appalachian trail and Mt Greylock is a short drive away.

    North-South Lake Campground

    Beautiful grounds but…

Gorgeous campgrounds, friendly staff, and spectacular facilities. Loved that trailheads are walking distance from the sites. But we felt very close to campers next to us, not a lot of shrubbery between sites to feel somewhat private. Fire pits are very nice but more catered to cooking instead of being able to sit around in a circle. Also, we picked a site hoping we’d have a nice view of the lake but it’s hard to see from the site and a good walk away. Overall, beautiful grounds but I’d take less facilities to have a more “woodsy” vibe but that’s just my preference!

    Nickerson Park Campground

    Private Early Season Camping

We stayed for two nights mid-week in June and had the entire loop to ourselves. That made the experience a 5/5, but after seeing the site layout, it seems like accessibility could be an issue with high occupancy. Check-in went very smoothly and we were greeted by the new owner of only 45 days. She was extremely pleasant. Most of the campground is filled with seasonal RVs which makes for a different experience. Our site was on top of the creek, close to the path down to the water and close to a hiking trail. During our visit we drove around the nearby towns and didn't find much to see or do with our time. I don't know if I would stay here again just for the visit to the campground given the higher cost, but we enjoyed the one time experience. Verizon cell service was decent, and enough to work remotely.

Guide to West Coxsackie

The Catskill Mountains region surrounding West Coxsackie offers variable elevations from 400 to 4,000 feet with dramatic seasonal temperature shifts. Fall temperatures typically range from 35°F to 65°F, while summer months see averages between 60°F and 85°F. Camping areas near the Hudson River provide accessibility to both water recreation and mountain hiking trails within relatively short driving distances.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Taghkanic State Park Campground provides excellent fishing with largemouth bass in its well-maintained lake. "The lake is beautiful and clean. Expect to pay $15 fee (I think) to use your paddleboards/kyacks etc. Worth every penny," notes a visitor. Boat rentals are available during summer months.

Hiking trails: Rudd Pond Area in Taconic State Park offers multiple hiking routes for various skill levels. A camper mentions, "There is a trailhead at the end of the campground that connects to the other trails in Taconic State Park." Most trails are moderately difficult with limited elevation changes, making them suitable for day hiking.

Winter activities: North-South Lake Campground maintains select trails for winter access when most facilities are closed. "Kaasterskill falls, which is minutes down the road from the campground" remains accessible during winter months with proper equipment. The campground's proximity to multiple terrain features makes it popular for seasonal exploration.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Lake Taghkanic State Park Campground maintains high standards for bathrooms and common areas. "Showers are hot and there's great water pressure. The cleanliness of the bathrooms depends on how busy the campground is," reports a recent visitor. The park employs dedicated cleaning staff during peak season.

Platform tent sites: Several campgrounds offer raised wooden platforms for tent camping. "The platforms kept us off the ground and were helpful in setting up appropriate tarp protection!" notes a camper who experienced rain. These elevated sites improve drainage during wet weather and create level sleeping surfaces.

Privacy between sites: Schodack Island State Park Campground provides vegetative barriers between campsites. "The state did an excellent job designing sites with dense foliage as sound and site barriers creating good privacy for campers," writes one reviewer. Sites typically include 15-30 feet of natural screening on at least two sides.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most rv sites near West Coxsackie, New York require advance booking during peak season. Fall foliage viewing periods fill completely 3-6 months in advance. Winter camping options are extremely limited with most facilities closing by mid-October.

Road conditions: Access to several campgrounds involves narrow, winding roads. At Thousand Trails Rondout Valley, a visitor noted: "There must be new management because many upgrades have been made over the past year which include all new SWE (full hookups) street lighting, and campground markings/numbering." Despite improvements, mountain access roads remain challenging for larger vehicles.

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds operate from April/May through October with specific opening dates. "A Thousand trails campground so it was free. I think the regular price is $64. Full hookups, tents and cabins to rent," explains one visitor about fees and seasonal availability. Off-season facilities are extremely limited across the region.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Treetopia Campground provides extensive recreational facilities for children. According to a visitor, "If you have an RV, they have 30/50 amp with electric and water. There is no sewer, but they have a dump-station and on-site Honeywagon truck that you can schedule." The campground structures activities specifically for families with younger children.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds maintain designated swimming areas with varying levels of supervision. "Great beach, 5 minute drive from campground. Clean facilities, with a rec room for rainy days. A camp store with all the supplies you might have forgotten," reports a family who stayed at Lake Taghkanic. Most swimming areas close by 7pm with strict enforcement.

Emergency preparedness: Bathrooms at Schodack Island double as emergency shelters. "The bath houses are very clean and used for emergency shelter for bad weather," notes one camper. Park rangers provide weather advisories during severe conditions and camping during thunderstorm season requires additional planning.

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Arrowhead Marina & RV Park accommodates larger rigs with appropriate spacing. "This was one of our favorite campgrounds of our cross-country trip. Our site was back-in and had plenty of space. There's a lot of green space in this campground and it's right on the river," reports an RVer. Most sites accommodate up to 40-foot rigs with slide-outs.

Utility connections: When selecting rv sites near West Coxsackie, verify exact hookup specifications. At North-South Lake Campground, electric service ranges from 30-50 amp depending on site location. Water connections are available but pressure varies significantly across the campground network.

Leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region feature sloped terrain requiring leveling blocks. At Rudd Pond, "Almost all of the sites have platforms to pitch your tent on, although there are a couple of flatter spots without platforms (although they still have a slope.)" This topographical feature affects RVs requiring careful positioning and stabilization.
