Lake Bluff RV Park accepts pets at all tent, RV, cabin, and glamping sites throughout its seasonal operation from April to October. South Shore RV Park, Lakeview Camping Area, and Cherry Grove Campground maintain similar pet-friendly policies across their accommodation options. Standard pet rules at these campgrounds include keeping dogs leashed in public areas, cleaning up waste, and restrictions on leaving pets unattended. Campground reviews indicate most sites offer adequate space between campsites, providing room for pets to relax at individual sites. The region features several campgrounds with full hookups and amenities like picnic tables and fire rings at pet-friendly sites. Many seasonal campers at Lake Bluff report the campground maintains a welcoming atmosphere for responsible pet owners.

Nearby hiking options include trails at Chimney Bluffs State Park, frequently mentioned in reviews as worth visiting with dogs. Several campgrounds provide direct access to walking paths suitable for daily pet exercise. Wooded camping sites at Lake Bluff and Cherry Grove offer natural shade for pets during summer months. Weather considerations for pet camping include occasional water advisories that might affect drinking water for pets. Reviews note that seasonal campers are typically courteous to visiting pet owners, creating a friendly camping environment. The PineApple Farm offers a more rustic tent and cabin camping experience with pets allowed, though with more limited amenities than the larger established campgrounds in the area. Campers should note that most facilities maintain quiet hours policies that include restrictions on excessive barking.

Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Camp Resort at Mexico

      Great Salmon fishing....Mexico NY

This is our 4th experience at a Jellystone. The campground was clean and staff was super nice. Organized the Halloween activities nicely. Yogi and the characters were very involved. For the fisherman, it's located on Salmon River and appears to have quite a lot of large salmon this time of year. I was shocked at the size of the fish that were being cleaned. My husband believes that area of the river was a private sector for the campground. Smaller campground than others I have been too but made it nice for kids to rides bikes safely since there weren't golf carts located at this campground. What I didn't enjoy as much. 1) The sites were muddy, especially when it had recently rained. Luckily we came after it rained and it had dried out some. 2) the dog park was a walking area, not a fenced in yard for them to let some of their energy out 3) No sewer hookups available but does had a dump station on your way out.

      Sampson State Park Campground

Solid option in the finger lakes.

We camped here for 3 nights, I had an event in Geneva. Location was handy, easy in and out. It’s an old navy/Air Force base that was converted in the 60’s. Sites have a weird thing with one electric post per two sites… but they aren’t pull through. So, apparently, New York doesn’t care if you just park anywhere in the general area of your site, which is a vibe, but bring an extension cord. There’s some kind of “resort” co-located that appears to have more conventional hookups, but I’m unclear on how to book that. Price was fine, spot was ok, lake swim beach and playground were nice.

      Oneida Shores County Park

Campground was great, other patrons…not so much

My husband and I camped here from 6/17/22 - 6/19/22.

We had a great and relaxing time until Saturday evening when the three dogs at a neighboring site all slipped their collars and began running around the campground growling and charging at other patrons. One of them came at myself and my parents who were visiting. I absolutely came very close to being bit by a dog that was trying to charge at my mother but my husband intervened and began swinging a hot dog poker at the dog which caused it to bolt towards a campsite that had multiple little kids at it.

Someone called the Onondaga county police who came and spoke to the campground manager and I believe they warned the dog owners. But in the end the dogs were allowed to stay.

All in all we had a nice time. My only wish would be that the management would be more unaccepting of obviously dangerous pets.

There are mens and womens bathrooms, each with multiple stalls. Showers are available but a bit far from the actual campground. Water was warm but the water pressure wasn’t great. Ice and firewood for sale at the campsite.

      Fillmore Glen State Park Campground

      Beautiful trails, busy campground

We visited 6 state parks in the Finger Lakes region of New York this past summer. Fillmore Glen State Park was our favorite for hiking, but probably our least favorite for camping. The trails are uncrowded and well maintained. We hiked along the south rim trail and the gorge trail. The gorge trail is especially cool, with 9 foot bridges crisscrossing over the river. There are several gorgeous waterfalls, and the walk was shady and cool, even though it was a hot day. After hiking through the glen, we were hoping to cool off with a swim, but the swimming area was closed. Not sure why, but you can only swim when lifeguards are on duty, and there were No Swimming signs everywhere.

The campground at Fillmore Glen was totally full when we stayed there. The sites offered little privacy and were very close together, plus you could here road noise loud and clear all through the night. The water faucet near our site was out of order, and the bathrooms were only clean in the morning. The sites were all wooded and shaded, with nice flat spots for tents, but I probably wouldn’t stay there again during the busy summer months. If you’re headed out that way, I would definitely recommend Fillmore Glen for a day trip, but I’d camp at either Robert Treman or Buttermilk Falls state park in Ithaca.

      Six Circles Farm (Camp Elderberry)

      Beautiful and peaceful

This was our first experience at a Hipcamp site, but we took advantage of a $30 promotion from REI and decided to try one out. Camp Elderberry is located on an organic vegetable farm in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Weekend tours of the farm are available for a nominal fee. There are two sites here, both quite separate from each other so they are very private. You can camp in an RV or in a tent on the grass. Due to recent rains, the grass was quite tall, so we did not go deep into our site, which had a view of Seneca Lake. No hookups at either site.

Communication with Lael was very good from the beginning, and he met us as we arrived to help us get settled. We arrived much later than planned due to a flat tire, so we did not spend much time exploring the property. There is also a ½ mile hike to the beach that I would have explored if we had arrived earlier. I had read there is a porta-potty, but we did not use it. There is also potable water and a cold-water shower. No WiFi, but the cell signal was strong on Verizon. There are many wineries nearby but again, because of our late arrival, they were all closed when we got there.

We have been exploring a variety of camping options including Tentrr, Harvest Host, RV parks, Corps of Engineers campgrounds, county parks, state parks, and national parks. Hipcamp campsites vary widely by accommodation and price. The price for Camp Elderberry was not unreasonable ($50) but is more expensive than most standard (non-private) campsites. We did enjoy the unique experience, however!

      Fillmore Glen State Park Campground

Ranger Review: OOFOS OOriginal Sport Sandals at Fillmore Glen State Park

      Gear Review:

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I am one of the lucky ones that get to review outdoor gear from time to time. My husband, Hutch, and I each got a pair of the OOFOS OOriginal Sport Sandals and spent the last couple weeks hiking, cycling, and camping in them in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York. These are not your average pair of flip flops…they are amazing! We may never take them off.

What we love about these shoes:

      • Unbelievably comfortable! Designed as a recovery shoe but can be worn for just about everything from the shower to the campground to light hiking and cycling.
      • The toe thong is integrated into the sole, making them more durable and less likely to pull through/out. The rubber is so soft that it doesn’t irritate the area between the toes, even after walking in them for many hours.
      • Stylish! I wore them with a nice outfit and my feet didn’t feel underdressed.
      • They stay on your feet when walking in water. My previous pair of flip flops felt like they were coated in Vaseline when they got wet, but these sandals stay put. They float, which is plus if you lose them in the lake. Lose them in a river and all bets are off though.
      • When people ask who makes them, it’s fun to say OOOFOOSS twice (because they never understand you the first time you say it).

      What could be improved:

      • I can typically find some constructive criticism about the products I review, but these are our new favorite shoes. Maybe a few more color options for men would be a nice addition to the line?

      Thoughts and ideas:

      • Can OOFOS make insoles for hiking boots? They’d be amazingly comfy.

      Campground Review:

From the gorgeous hike up the gorge to kayaking at sunset on Owasco Lake to enjoying some wine from the grapes grown in the region, the Finger Lakes region is hard to beat for total family entertainment. We came for a couple nights to check it out and stayed for over a week!

This campground is great for families and groups! Each site has a picnic table and fire ring and there are both electric and non-electric sties from which to choose. The sites in the middle section of the campground don’t really have designated boundaries, while those around the edges are more traditionally divided. There is literally no privacy between any of the sites.

We were at site 35 (in the middle section) and there were 2 large groups on either side of us who came for the weekend. The grassy field is great for kiddos to run-amok and there is a playground at the far end of it so parents can keep an eye on the kids while enjoying time with their friends and family.

The bathrooms are modern, kept very clean, and the showers are awesome. There are a couple picnic areas/shelters* and a gorgeous natural pool with lifeguard. *P.S. The picnic shelter up by the gorge is amazing! It’s worth the walk up the stairs.

But, the campground is only the beginning of what this area has to offer! Just a short walk from the campground, you will find the Village of Moravia which has everything you may need, including some great ice cream and pizza. It’s a cute little town filled with many historic homes so take the time to walk or cycle around. Also, Owasco Lake is a short drive from the campground and is great for all types of water sports.

We did our usual reservation-less “pull up and see what they have open” style of camping, but during the main season, this place is nuts! You’ll definitely need to plan ahead and make reservations if you plan to be here on the weekends during the silly season. Bonus: Prices are lower on weekdays and you get a reduced rate for your second night, too.

      Back-Achers Campsites

This place is a hidden gem!

This park is located equidistant between Geneva and Watkins Glenn, NY on the shores of Seneca lake.  There are like 40 wineries close by to choose from.  The campground is located far enough off the highway that it is very quiet at night, but close enough to make it easily accessible.

Although the park was full on the weekend we were there, it did not feel that way.  The sites are big and there is plenty of space around the bathhouse so it doesn't feel crowded. The bathrooms appear new and very clean.

There are plenty of easy trials around the campground to walk your dog, and the beach is absolutely wonderful.  The owner lives on site and seems to have a good handle on everything going on there.  No loud parties or disturbances while we camped.

      Hamlin Beach State Park Campground

      day trip

the beach is pretty nice I went there for a day trip this time since it's close to my house I can take my dog for a walk, i have camped there sites aren't secluded like they used to be but they are nice and in walking distance to the beach. and you get to see the beautiful lake Ontario.

    Guide to Sodus

Sodus sits in the Lake Ontario fruit belt of western New York, where elevations range from 249 feet at the lakeshore to around 400 feet inland. Summer temperatures typically reach the mid-80s, while spring and fall camping seasons can see overnight lows in the 40s. The region's glacial geology creates distinctive drumlin formations visible from many campgrounds, giving campers unusual rolling terrain to explore compared to flatter lakeshore areas.

    What to do

Hiking at Chimney Bluffs: Trails at Chimney Bluffs State Park, about 10 miles from Lake Bluff RV Park, offer unique erosion formations along Lake Ontario. "We drove through the "bluffs" loop, thinking it would be beautiful and look out on the water," notes one camper who visited nearby Fair Haven Beach State Park.

Fishing opportunities: The region offers both pond and lake fishing options. At Lakeview Camping Area, campers appreciate the "great fishing pond" and note the "canoes and paddle boats available" for accessing fishing spots. One camper reports, "Range of camping available from non electric to sites with electric also cabins are available... excellant fishing."

Beach activities: Sandy beaches along Lake Ontario provide swimming options during summer months. At Lakeview Camping Area, campers note "We love this place it has just enough waves that the little kids can jump them. But small enough that they don't get pulled over by the waves." Another camper appreciated a "Large, private plot in drumlin loop. Close to the beach which was very pretty and clean."

    What campers like

Wooded privacy: Many campgrounds near Sodus feature secluded sites. At Webster Park, campers enjoy that "Camp sites are wooded and private. Very quiet and peaceful." Another camper mentioned, "There was good separation between the campsites and the bathrooms and showers were clean."

Family activities: Several campgrounds offer organized events and amenities for children. At Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, one camper notes, "Our 3 and 5 year olds really enjoyed the jump pad and woods obstacles." Another camper praised the variety of options: "There's Ziplines with treetop walk and a bounce. And even a play area for your dogs."

Nature sounds: The rural setting provides peaceful natural soundscapes. At Little Creek Camp, campers report unique wildlife encounters: "I heard the most beautiful sounds!" and another mentioned they "Heard a Great Horned owl." Similarly, at Webster Park, one camper shares, "I'm a birder and my tent site here is next to a little grove of trees where I counted 12 species of birds this morning."

    What you should know

Water advisories: Some campgrounds experience occasional water quality issues. One camper at Fair Haven noted, "When we were there the city was under a water advisory- all water had to be boiled before any kind of use." This requires planning for alternative drinking water sources for both people and pets.

Seasonal population: Many dog friendly campgrounds near Sodus have a high percentage of seasonal residents. At Junius Ponds, a camper observed, "A would be beautiful campground is over run with seasonal campers and their golf carts." Another mentioned, "Most of the sites are for seasonal guests so it can be difficult to get a reservation."

Cell service variability: Internet and phone access can be limited at some locations. One camper at Webster Park reported, "Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store." In contrast, at Cherry Grove Campground, a visitor found "WiFi is very good, as is cell service from Verizon and T-Mobile."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: Select sites near play areas for convenience with children. At Lake Bluff RV Park, a regular visitor recommends, "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground."

Game room access: Some campgrounds offer indoor entertainment options. A Lake Bluff camper notes, "Near the play ground they have a nice game room pool, air hockey, video games. There is a change machine too." This provides backup activities during rainy weather.

Beach safety: Lake Ontario beaches have varying conditions for children. A family at Lakeview Camping Area appreciated that the lake "has just enough waves that the little kids can jump them. But small enough that they don't get pulled over by the waves." The mix of pond and lake access provides options based on swimming abilities.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain. At Lakeview Camping Area, an RVer observed, "The non-electric sites were pretty much all on hilly areas, most would be impossible for an RV to get level, though there were a few that would have worked."

Water connections: Check water hookup locations before setting up. One camper at Webster Park noted, "Two-headed water spigots are shared by 2 sites, which worked reasonably well; we were glad we had an extra hose to reach back to our camper."

Off-season considerations: Pet-friendly campgrounds near Sodus have varying seasonal operations. At Junius Ponds, the season runs "April 15 to October 15," while Monroe County Webster Park operates from "April 1 to October 31." This seasonal variation affects late fall and early spring camping plans with pets.
