Lake Bluff RV Park in Wolcott offers cabin accommodations with basic amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, and access to shared bathroom facilities with showers. South Shore RV Park in Sodus Point provides cabins with electricity and water hookups, suitable for visitors seeking more comfort than tent camping but without the need for an RV. Lakeview Camping Area at Fair Haven Beach State Park features cabins with varying levels of furnishings, some with lake views. "The lakeview loop was nicer, but still too many RVs all in a row. There are also cute cabins here for rent," noted one visitor.

Junius Ponds Cabins and Campgrounds provides more furnished options with some including small kitchenettes and private bathrooms. Kitchen facilities vary widely—some cabins offer only outdoor fire rings with cooking grates, while others include small refrigerators, microwaves, or hotplates. Bathroom access depends on the specific campground, with some cabins featuring private facilities while others rely on centrally located shower houses. Many locations allow pets in select cabins for an additional fee. Campground stores at locations like Lake Bluff and Junius Ponds sell basic provisions, firewood, and ice, though most visitors bring their own food and supplies. Nearby towns offer grocery stores and restaurants for additional needs.

    Sampson State Park Campground

    Back for a 2nd time

    HIGHLIGHTS :

    Pets allowed in some loops

Marina convenience store with pontoon boat rentals

    Fishing

    Swimming

    Ice cream and concessions stand

    Arcade room

    Outdoor movie screen

    Nice playgrounds

    Military museum

Paved loops - good for bikes and scooters

    NEAR BY ATTRACTIONS: Wineries

    CONS:

Electric service boxes are shared in-between sites. This could pose an issue if your power cord is not long enough.

There is only source for water fill up. This could end up being a very very long wait if you arrive at the same time as other campers.

    Only 2 dump stations

They don’t allow pull-in camping. Campers MUST be backed in

    Flint Creek Campgrounds

Great activities, friendly hosts, full hook ups!

Close to wine country you will find this gem of a family campground. Dog and kid friendly with activities such as wagon rides, arts and crafts, movie night and various themed weekend events. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming during our entire stay. An easy back in site with full hookups (B10) backed against a row of trees and a field that provided much entertainment of squirrels and birds. There is a camp store with very reasonable prices and accepts credit cards. Wood ($4) and ice ($2) are also for sale. There are two small cabins to rent along with a couple of family tent sites. The bathrooms/showers were clean near the camp store. Amenities include a pool, mini golf ($1/person), two playgrounds, horseshoes, a recreation center with games and movies, basketball and shuffle board. There are many seasonal campers at this campground, but all seemed friendly and welcoming as well. It truly seemed like one big happy family there.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

Shady Pines Camp at CBG Farm - CLOSED

    Rustic and beautiful

After meeting up with the owner we went down to the parking area. A dirt trail and park on the side in the grass. You have to walk in about 2 minutes on a trail. The owner has a golf cart with a small wagon and transported our stuff to the campsite and back when we left…he was really nice and very helpful.the trail opened to open grassy areas with surrounding trees where we pitched our tent…a small table and fire ring w grate provided. Also firewood.you get water back up at the barn but the owner was nice and brought us a 5 gal. Jug. Pond stocked with fish…catch and release. We caught some nice bass and bullhead…kids had a blast. Past the pond is the cabin with sitting spots and an open cement fire stove and oven also a fire pit. Theres an outhouse behind the cabin w a seat over a bucket w chemicals…papertowels tp hand sanitizer and disenfectant wipes nicely provided. We did have cellphone signals. Overall a really nice spot to relax and commune w nature.

Lakeview Camping Area — Fair Haven Beach State Park

    We decided to move on

We drove through here but didn’t stay. The non-electric sites were pretty much all on hilly areas, most would be impossible for an RV to get level, though there were a few that would have worked.

We drove through the “bluffs” loop (electric sites), thinking it would be beautiful and look out on the water, but it was a nightmare for us, with huge RVs jam packed side by side like a parking lot.

The lakeview loop was nicer, but still too many RVs all in a row. There are also cute cabins here for rent.

When we were there the city was under a water advisory- all water had to be boiled before any kind of use. There was a dump station, and trash bins but no recycling (I’m disappointed in the lack of recycling at NY State campgrounds!) So, we moved on to Selkirk SP and stayed there instead.

    Cayuga Lake State Park Campground

    A horrific experience

I made a reservation for 7 nights for cabin #8. Plans changed and we arrived two days into our reservation intending to stay for 5 nights. We did not realized until the first morning that the pile of black stuff on the patio was bat dung. That morning we witnessed dozens of bats returning home for the night to the building we were staying in. On the third afternoon we saw a bat hanging from the outside of a screen door. My husband and I inspected the grounds for the bat but it had gone(or so we thought). He and I remained outside at the picnic table and a short time later I realized my arm was bleeding. When I cleaned the wound my husband and I both observed that I had two little distinct puncture wounds. I was at the emergency room until about 9PM and was told that I had to go home to New Hampshire to be treated with a series of shots that I will endure over the next couple of weeks. I camp often. This is my first time camping in NY. I believe it will be the last time. I knew that there was no bathroom in the cabin. I knew that there was no hot water. I knew that I had to bring a lot of stuff with us like bedding and cookware, But I did not think that I would be living in a bat house, full of flies.. I did not know that we would find rodent dung behind the microwave on the counter where I would be preparing food. I did not think there would be carpenter ants crawling all over that same counter. If I had known all that, I never would have rented the Hell hole. I get to visit with my daughter just once per year and that cabin completely ruined that visit. That building is unsuitable for people and pets. In addition, There is a highway that runs through it. The other guest were very quiet, but the traffic noise did not really add to the ambiance. The lake is across the street and the swimming area is small and too shallow for an adult to swim in. And the RVs are packed pretty tight. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I cannot think of one good thing to say about it. I am including pics that my daughter took hastally as we fled. But since it was dark you cannot really see the mouse turds on the kitchen counter. And the roof leaks. I keep forgetting that because it just seemed like something I should have expected. Most of what I have written I have already sent to the park and I think everyone should take a look at the response I got to my request, no my demand, for my money back(at least) and compensation for the hotel we had to stay in and my medical bills. I think if you are thinking about staying there you should read their response because I think it will help you decide if this place is really for you."Hello, We are very sorry that your experience at Cayuga Lake State Park was not a pleasurable visit. There is a very high population of wildlife in the area. Animals such as bats, mice, chipmunks, ants, flies, bees, birds, skunks, racoons, fox, coyote, etc are a normal occurrence when camping in a nature setting. We take precautions and continue to make improvements to try and minimize wildlife interactions. This area also has a very high bat population. It is not uncommon at all for the bats to roost on the outside of the buildings and under porch eves on the buildings in the park. Unfortunately there are times when wildlife such as mice, chipmunks, flies or bees find entry, occupy the space and may leave droppings or get into a food source. This may be very unappealing, but our cleaners do very well to ensure the dwelling is clean and ready for use when you arrive. Many times animals gain entry after the patron has arrived. We cannot issue a refund for your camping stay. You will not be reimbursed your hotel costs or your medical costs, as there was no negligence on the part of the park that caused what occurred."

Bluff Camping Area — Fair Haven Beach State Park

Shaded camping with Great Lake access

I booked this site for one night and ended up staying three. Trying to avoid the heat, I was relieved that the shaded electric camping area staved off most of the days heat. I was in site 63 the first night and 68 the other two. 63 has more shade but 68 is right next to the bathroom and water spout if that’s important. I was able to find shade.

Some people may find the sites too close together, I didn’t mind since I’m solo camping and feel a bit of safety with closer neighbors. The loop was majority RVs and campers but it was still quiet all night and until late morning.

The showers and bathrooms are mostly clean and well stocked and there is a dedicated sink outside the building for dishes.

What I really loved is how far into the park the camping is, you’re really surrounded by woods. There is also excellent and easy access to Lake Ontario.

The park store has firewood, ice, and lots of other items like corn hole for rent. There is also a small boat shanty for boat rentals.

    Sampson State Park Campground

    Amazing camp location

There is a museum, boat launch, pavilions, and ice cream shop on the camp ground. The bathrooms are great with showers and each camp spot has plenty of distance away from the next one. They were building amazing lakeside cottages the last time I went and the cabins were small but could sleep 3-4 people in one room. Parking was great and the trails were clear. Maintenance crew starts around 7.

Guide to Sodus

Cabin rentals near Sodus, New York provide access to both Lake Ontario shoreline and the scenic Finger Lakes region. Summer temperatures average 75-85°F during peak camping season from June through August, with cooler evenings typically dropping to 55-65°F. Winter cabin availability is limited, with most facilities closing between late October and mid-April due to the area's heavy snowfall averaging 72 inches annually.

What to do

Fishing at multiple locations: Lake Bluff RV Park in Wolcott features a catch-and-release fishing pond popular with families. "Have been to lake buff twice this year and will definitely be back next year! The owners are so personable, accommodating and kind! Kids activities are great," notes a camper at Lake Bluff RV Park.

Hiking the nearby trails: Lakeview Camping Area offers access to multiple hiking paths through wooded areas. "Many hiking trails are around the campground some that lead to secluded trails and secluded areas of other Lake Ontario beaches," explains one visitor who appreciated the variety of terrain.

Visit Chimney Bluffs State Park: Located just minutes from several cabin rentals, this unique geological formation offers dramatic views of Lake Ontario. "We had a huge site near a little stream, overall the campground isn't very big with lots of seasonsals. Lots of activities for kids, and just around the corner from chimney bluff state park which are a must see!" reports a visitor from Lakeview Camping Area — Fair Haven Beach State Park.

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: Webster Park offers cabin sites with good separation from neighbors. "There was good separation between the campsites and the bathrooms and showers were clean. Wasn't too far from a park along Ontario. Overall a great stay!" notes one visitor to Webster Park.

Sandy beaches: Fair Haven Beach State Park provides beach access right from the camping areas. "We love this place it has just enough waves that the little kids can jump them. But small enough that they don't get pulled over by the waves. Absolutely love it Sandy beaches great campsites. Very clean," shares an enthusiastic family camper.

Game rooms and recreational facilities: Some cabins provide indoor entertainment options for rainy days. "Near the play ground they have a nice game room pool, air hockey, video games. There is a change machine too," mentions one Lake Bluff visitor who appreciated these amenities.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most cabin facilities require advance booking, with peak season filling up quickly. "We spent father's day weekend at the KOA. Our kids rented cabins and some used tents and others came for the day," notes a visitor at Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, showing how advance planning for holidays is especially important.

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven terrain that can affect cabin placement. "Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach. We changed sites three times and finally resigned ourselves to not being leveled," reports a camper at Red's Twilight on the Erie.

Water advisories: Temporary water quality issues can affect campgrounds in this region. "When we were there the city was under a water advisory- all water had to be boiled before any kind of use," noted a visitor, highlighting the importance of checking current conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: Choose cabins near play areas for convenience with small children. "We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well," advises a repeat visitor to Webster Park.

Kid-friendly activities: Junius Ponds offers organized entertainment for children throughout the season. "The campground is well maintained and has clean restrooms. There are many options for different sites. They offer themed weekends and have activities for kids," shares a visitor at Junius Ponds.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Families can spot local animals around cabin areas. "You will see lots of wildlife from chipmunks to deer and there was even a bear there this year! Wonderful family friendly park!" mentions a camper about the natural surroundings.

Tips from RVers

Hose length preparation: Water connections at some sites require longer-than-standard equipment. "You need a long hose for fresh water in the RV. No sewer sites," advises a visitor to Webster Park who enjoyed their stay despite this limitation.

Golf cart prevalence: Be aware of the traffic patterns at some campgrounds. "A would be beautiful campground is over run with seasonal campers and their golf carts. These fine folks never stop driving and take the time to walk and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings," notes a visitor at Bluff Camping Area, suggesting quieter camping areas might be preferable for those seeking tranquility.
