Arrowhead Marina & RV Park sits directly on the Mohawk River with dedicated pet-friendly RV sites. Each camping section maintains grassy areas where dogs can stretch their legs while still remaining on a leash. The campground features a small fenced dog area adjacent to several pet-friendly sites that provides a safe space for off-leash play and socialization. All sites accept pets with standard leash requirements outside designated areas. Frosty Acres Campground also welcomes pets with accommodations ranging from tent sites to pet-friendly cabins and glamping options. The campground backs up to state forest land, providing excellent opportunities for leashed dog walks. Ushers Road State Forest allows dispersed camping with dogs throughout the wooded areas. Sites must be at least 150 feet from established trails but offer privacy for campers with pets that may be vocal or reactive to other animals.

Thompson's Lake Campground at Thacher State Park offers some of the most accommodating pet-friendly camping facilities with lakeside sites featuring private foot trails down to the water where dogs can cool off during hot summer months. The clean bathrooms and dish washing stations make extended stays with pets more manageable. Multiple hiking trails surrounding the campground allow for varied terrain options when walking dogs. Wildlife encounters are possible, so keeping pets leashed helps protect both local animals and camping dogs. McConchie Heritage Acres Campground permits pets but requires careful planning as it primarily hosts seasonal campers with established sites. Lee's Park Campground welcomes dogs despite its compact layout. The proximity to Saratoga Performing Arts Center makes it popular for event attendees camping with pets. Mosquitoes can be problematic in wooded areas, so pet-appropriate insect protection is advisable.

      Spacious Skies Woodland Hills

      A peaceful place with character.

My first visit to New York state was amazing, largely in part due to my campsite at the Woodland Hills campground. I had a back in site and was having problems with my camper, and they were able to change to a pull through at time of check in. However, it was in early May and before the summer crowds. The pond has a fountain which sounds like a small waterfall at night, and wildflowers were in bloom. Very nice bathrooms and showers, and my dog loved the dog park.

      Lake George RV Park

      The best in Northeast

This is the best RV resort I have visited. The whole family will love, including pets. I can't do justice to the dog park, it has to be the best dog park in USA.

Everything you want in an RV park. The only think missing is a large lake but you can take trolley to Lake George. You set up and will not need your car until you leave.

Trolley through the park and to Lake George. Awesome camp store. Tennis, pickle ball, basketball. Movies, pools, splash pad, trails, fishing pond, food & ice cream. The list goes on. A must stay.

      Lake George Escape Campground

      Nice all around

It’s been a few years since we were there last but always enjoyed going here. Facilities were always clean. Campground is pet friendly and have a small dog park. Pool was looking a bit outdated when we were last there but totally functional. We’d go back in a second.

Campground is placed 10 minutes from the bottom of Lake George with great hiking trails in the surrounding area. The campground it’s self it’s very clean in every aspect. On a river with water activities, beach, pool, a BAR, and so many more outdoor activities. Every night there are wagon tours of the campground, staff is seen frequently but very relaxed environment. Very family and pet friendly (They have their own dog park!) This was my 5th summer going up with friends and about our 8th trip overall and every time it’s a great experience!

      Cooperstown KOA

      Nice Park

This park is located approximately 12.5 miles from downtown Cooperstown and is set in the quiet rural countryside of New York. The mature trees make for beautiful scenery in the fall. There is a mix of sites varying from tent, RV, rental trailers, and camping cabins/cottages/lodges bringing the total number of sites to 120. Back-in and pull-thru sites are available. Site types include full hookup, water and electric, and no hookup with prices varying depending upon site. You can choose between 30/20 or 50 amp electric service. Interior roads are gravel and some site pads are gravel while others are grass.

The park is nicely terraced and all the sites are level. Patios were a grassy/dirt area with a picnic table and fire pit. Our site (#41) was a pull-thru but there was no way we could drive our 45’ motorhome forward out of the site because of a large tree and narrow roads. So we ended up having to back out. The free wifi worked well as did our Verizon 4G phone and hotspot. We picked up a dozen or so television channels with our antenna. The park does have a fair amount of trees that would interfere with roof-mounted satellite dishes so you would have to pick your site carefully. But, there are some 30 amp and no hook-up sites that are clear. This is a typical KOA with lots of amenities including a swimming pool(which was closed for the season when we were there), a playground, volleyball court, basketball court, jump house, pavilion, recreation room, bicycle rental, and horseshoes. Showers, restrooms and laundry are also present and clean. There is a propane filling station. While there is no fenced-in dog park there is a pet walking area. The surrounding area is pretty rural and the closest town (Richfield Springs– which is very small) is five miles away and where you will find restaurants, gas station, grocery store, and more. A few miles from the park is a creamery that has a café.

Approximately five miles away is Glimmerglass State Park which was great for hiking and kayaking Otsego Lake. There is a also a historic house at the park that you can tour and the country’s oldest covered bridge. Cooperstown is a little over twelve miles away from the park but well worth a trip. Not only is Cooperstown home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame but it is a charming downtown well worth exploring. Other nearby attractions include The Farmers Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, Hero’s of Baseball Wax Museum, Glimmerglass Opera, and Cooperstown Brewing Company.

      Lake George Escape Campground

      Camping July 2018

Sites-the section we were in the sites were huge and clean, the grass needed to be cut.

Staff was excellent! Helpful and Courteous

If you need a baby sitter this is a place for you,

No adult supervision . Kids riding motorized scooters, mini bikes, and driving golf carts.

Definitely going over the 5mph posted limit.

Dog park needed to have the grass cut.

Bugs are horrible bring bug spray and a screenhouse.

Don't pay xtra for water site on frog pond. That's exactly what you get a grass and frog swap.

Boat launch clearly marked no swimming and no going to the other side. Clearly people can not read.

If you have young children this is the place for you, many activities for children.

Wi-Fi - If you need internet they charge you for it. Most campgrounds offer free Wi-Fi (we did pay the $15 because we needed it for work).

Over priced if you don't have children to take advantage of the activities offered.

Suggestion allow pet swimming at the boat launch.

      Lake George RV Park

      Top pick for dog lovers!

We have camped at dozens of campgrounds & Lake George RV park is our top pick. Great sites, customer service & the best part is the dog park. This is a must visit park if you have dogs. Dog park is a 10 & like the entire park, it is immaculately kept.

      Lake George RV Park

      ★★★★★ Getaway to the Adirondacks

Lake George RV Park may be the greatest campground we’ve stayed at yet!

Located about 2-miles from the New York State Thruway(I-87), this park is ideally situated for a Lake George area vacation. We spent 6-days in early-August and it really wasn’t enough.

The staff treated us so nicely and the array of resort-level amenities are beautifully-maintained and clean. They run a free trolley within the campground and to the local retail outlets. The park is so large, you’ll be happy to see that red trolley coming around to take you to and from your campsite and the swimming pools(plural), game room, theater which offers nightly entertainment, paddle boats, cafe, dog park, and much more. In addition, a local trolley service operates an hourly ride to and from Lake George Village. The cost is just$1 per person per trip(free for young kids) and discounted tickets are available for sale at the campground. The many opportunities for activities and entertainment are top-notch. Not just“campground-nice,” but really nice! And everything they offer is included at no extra cost(except food, of course). Check out their mobile app for updates to activities, a trolley tracker(fun+ helpful!), and more.

The camp store was well-stocked with food and drinks, souvenirs, and RV/camping supplies.

Our pull-thru site(#109) was level and the full hookups all worked fine. Like most of the park, our site was nicely wooded for shade, but none of the trees were in the way of our motor home. Each site had its own trash can and they collected garbage daily. That’s nice and convenient.

Lake George RV Park is such a great place to stay that I hate to point out anything negative, but it’s why we rely on reviews. Two negatives to report. The site was a nice size and beautiful in so many ways except for the sandy dirt. With how charming everything is, I was surprised they didn’t at least put down gravel let alone concrete or asphalt in the sites. It was impossible to keep the dirt and sand out of our RV— and we tried. It also rained a few times during our stay which made it even worse. The other negative is their nonexistent wi-fi. It’s 2022, and we rely on wi-fi for connectivity to the office along with the ability to watch tv using streaming services(especially on a rainy night). The size of this place probably makes it difficult to provide good coverage, but it would be a huge improvement if they could figure it out.

It’s obvious that this is a family-operated campground because they offer so many niceties that corporate owners have done away with elsewhere. I positively can not say enough about how great this campground is. It’s a tremendous place and we can’t wait to go back!

      THINGS I LIKED:

      • Clean and meticulously maintained property and facilities.

      • So many activities and entertainment options(at no extra cost!).

      • Proximity to Lake George Village.

      THINGS I’D CHANGE:

      • Cover the sites with gravel, concrete, or asphalt. The sandy dirt is too messy.
      • Install reasonable wi-fi service.

      Lake George RV Park

      Great Outdoors with Resort Ammenities

We got a wooded site that is not a too far walk from any of the action or amenities. The dog park area is huge and allows for lots of play. The human amenities of the camp store and cafe are great. Lots of types of ice cream and other snacks.

    Guide to Rotterdam Junction

Dispersed camping options exist within 30 minutes of Rotterdam Junction in the southern Adirondack foothills. The region sits at elevations ranging from 250-1400 feet with mixed hardwood forests dominating the landscape. Summer temperatures typically range from 55-85°F with higher humidity near water features, affecting camping comfort during July and August.

    What to Do

Paddle the Mohawk River: Access boat launches directly from Arrowhead Marina & RV Park where you can put in kayaks or canoes. "Well maintained, located on the Mohawk River. Shady, grassy areas. Boat launch and pier," according to one visitor who gave the campground five stars.

Fishing in stocked ponds: Several campgrounds maintain stocked fishing areas for campers. At DevilDoc Campsites, campers enjoy fishing in a private pond. A reviewer noted, "We had the entire campground and the small Artesian fed pond to ourselves until our last night when other campers arrived."

Swimming at Nine Corners Lake: Located within 20 minutes of several campgrounds, this clear-water lake provides summer cooling options. "Nine Corners Lake is a must! It has beautiful clear water and we spent two entire days hanging out there," shared a DevilDoc Campsites visitor who spent a three-day weekend in the area.

    What Campers Like

Privacy between sites: Many campgrounds in the region offer good separation between camping areas. At Schodack Island State Park Campground, "The state did an excellent job designing sites with dense foliage as sound and site barriers creating good privacy for campers."

Free firewood collection: Unlike many commercial campgrounds that require purchased wood, some sites allow gathering. A reviewer at DevilDoc Campsites explained, "Purchasing firewood is totally unnecessary because there's plenty of it, literally, everywhere. I'd recommend bringing a hatchet."

Dark sky viewing: The rural setting provides good stargazing opportunities away from city lights. A camper staying at DevilDoc noted, "The star gazing is pretty darn nice as well," while others mentioned the peaceful evening atmosphere at several campgrounds.

Wildlife encounters: Multiple campgrounds report abundant small wildlife sightings. "Many rabbits, weasels, chipmunks, birds, and butterflies," observed a visitor at Schodack Island State Park, while others noted bullfrogs, deer, and occasional eagles in the area.

    What You Should Know

Seasonal operations: Most Rotterdam Junction area campgrounds close during winter months. The typical season runs May through October with Thompson's Lake Campground — Thacher State Park operating "April 29 to October 10" according to their listing information.

Cell service variability: Coverage differs across campgrounds even within the same property. At Schodack Island, "ATT and Verizon fluctuate between 1-3 bars. It was enough for me to work - downloading files, sending emails, and conducting non-video zoom calls."

Mosquito precautions: Wooded and waterfront sites experience heavier mosquito activity, especially near ponds. Pack appropriate repellent and consider site location carefully if this is a concern for your group.

Reservation timing: Campgrounds near Saratoga Performing Arts Center fill completely during concert weekends. "If you're staying here for SPAC shows, I would pack your earplugs, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper, arrive as early as possible," advises one experienced camper.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Kid-friendly swimming options: Several campgrounds offer supervised swimming areas with gradual entry. At Thompson's Lake Campground, "This campground has always been my go to. Now that I have kids, I appreciate the playground area near the beach more."

Nature programs: Seasonal educational activities are available at state parks. "They have a great beach with swimming, kayak and boat rentals, a nature center next door you can walk too," shares a Thompson's Lake visitor.

Playground access: Look for campgrounds with updated play equipment. "This campground has always been my go to. Now that I have kids, I appreciate the playground area near the beach more. All public areas including the bathrooms are very clean," notes a Thompson's Lake repeat visitor.

    Tips from RVers

Electrical options: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Rotterdam Junction offer both 30-amp and 50-amp connections. At Northampton Beach Campground, "Sites have a fire pit as well as a picnic table. You are allowed a maximum of 3 tents per site, and that's still plenty of room for car parking."

Water fill stations: While not all sites have full hookups, central water access is common. A Schodack Island camper observed, "Lots of water fill ups in the campground. Dump station on the way out."

Sanitation facilities: Even primitive campgrounds may offer basic amenities. "New owners- very strict. Horribly hospitality. Mainly seasonal and would need to be in the clique in order to feel comfortable," warns a visitor at Frosty Acres Campground.
