      Battenkill Glamping Resort

Our little cabin by the river was so peaceful!

We stayed in the Bee cabin, right on the Battenkill River. This tiny cabin has a queen bed, a little table with two chairs, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and a Keurig coffee maker. There is a smokeless fire pit outside with two Adirondack chairs, a small cafe table on the deck, and a picnic table. The bathhouse is about a five-minute walk from the cabin, and there is a water faucet right outside the door.

Our favorite part was just relaxing by the river, but there is a wood-fired sauna, lawn games, a little bistro serving burgers, fries, wings, and drinks, complimentary tubes for the river, and bicycles. We had plenty of privacy, and the place was quiet (maybe 6 other guests on the property).

In addition to the rustic glamping cabins, there are glamping tents with full bathrooms, bigger cabins, and stargazing domes. 4 of the cabins are dog-friendly. The property doesn't allow kids under 13 due to the close proximity to the river, which has a pretty strong current.

      Sacandaga Campground — Adirondack Preserve

      Cute and clean

Some sites have more privacy than others. Some are right on the river. There’s a good YouTube vid with walkthroughs of all the sites. Nice lil river running through the campground.

      DAR State Park Campground

      Vermonts hidden gem campground

Pam met us outside as she said ‘dodging rain drops’ to stack wood. She was warm and friendly. You can tell she runs a tight ship immediately telling us when quite hours were, and letting us know the dogs needed to be on leash and under our control. We brought our 2 labs with us. Only 2 vehicles per site is allowed. You do need tokens to use the shower. 2 tokens was more than enough for me to shower and not feel rushed. The bathrooms are AMAZING! I am looking forward to coming back!

      Lake George RV Park

      Sad

Had a site booked for Memorial Day weekend but had a complication to my 5th shoulder surgery in 2.5 years and had my 6th which was a 3rd attempt at rotator cuff repair in mid-May. Called to see if I could change my reservation since I cannot drive due to Dr.'s orders but no dice. Could care less and told me too late due to policy. Offered to provide doctors documentation but didn't matter. I did not ask for refund just to change the date. Rude, dismissive and unwilling to work with me. Sad that a family-oriented place is run this way. End result I am out over$600 and they are smiling. As a business owner myself I would be out of business if I treated my customers this way.

      Lake George Camping Village

      Dogs?

We emailed twice and traveled five hours to only find out they have a list of dog breeds they don’t accept. The list has no rhyme or reason. Our 7 year old 95lb Great Dane was not allowed. Ridiculous

      Crane Pond Dispersed Site

      Great waterfront site!

We loved camping at Crane Pond. It was a little over 3 miles to hike into the waterfront sites. There is an outhouse nearby, several campsites, fire pits, and we went for a swim in the pond. Overall great experience!

Sagamore Lake primitive camping, Adirondacks Blue Ridge wilderness

Beautiful backpack /paddle camping in the Adirondack Blue Ridge wilderness

This review is for primitive backpack or paddle in camping alogn the breathtakingly beautiful Sagamore Lake. On the southwest corner of the lake is located the historic Camp Sagamore, one of the so-called Great Camps of the Adirondacks and which is now a comfortable lodge and camping retreat which hosts lifelong learning workshops on crafts and history  throughout the year. If interested in visiting it, see this link:  https://www.sagamore.org/

However, beyond the grounds of the Camp is the vast Blue Ridge Wilderness of the Adirondack State Forest Park which completely surround the lake. Adhacent to camp Sagamore is a parking lot for campers and hikers, which includes an outhouse, picnic table, launch for canoes or kayaks, and trailhead for hiking and backpacking. The trail encircles Sagamore lake is is about 3.8 miles long. There is primitive and dispersed camping all along the trail and and along shore and beyond as long as you practice Leave No Trace principles. This basically means no campsite amenities other than the glorious woods and lake, but you will have your pick of remote spots to pitch a tent without having to backpack for hours. The trail does attract a fair number of day use hikers or paddlers, but few campers. The trail is reasonable to tackle for beginning dispersed campers, with the added safety of being able to hike out to the Camp within a couple miles in case of emergency. Highly recommended!

      Brown Tract Pond Campground

      Backwoods at Brown Tract Pond

This is a small rustic state forest off the beaten track, remote from but not too far from the village of Inlet in the Adirondacks. It is smaller than some of the other are forest campgrounds, and more quiet and peaceful. While in a rustic location at a distance from the main road, amenities do include picnic tables and firerings, flush toilets as well as privvies, and a trailer dump station 9but no hooksups)  Sites are spacious and private and well shaded. You can paddle and fish right here, with lots of good hiking in the area. Fairly easy to get to from the Utica area, and with reasonably close access to a quaint Adirondack village, but still providing a remote expereince at the edge of the wilderness.

Note: just 3.5 miles from the campground is the very nique and special Ferd's Bog reserve. There is a floating boardwalk into the trail, under the shadow of Cascade Mountain. Myriad unique boreal plants for view by botany fans, about a 1.2 hike in and back, and easy trail access from nearby Uncas Road, more info here: https://cnyhiking.com/FerdsBogTrail.htm

    Guide to Riparius

Camping sites near Riparius, New York range from rustic tent-only areas to full-service RV resorts throughout the southeastern Adirondack region. Elevation in the area averages 800-1,100 feet, contributing to cooler summer nights with temperatures typically 10-15 degrees lower than nearby urban areas. Most campgrounds in the Schroon River valley experience earlier frost dates than surrounding regions, with overnight temperatures sometimes dipping into the 40s even in late August.

    What to do

Archery practice: Lake George Escape Campground offers on-site archery facilities for campers of all skill levels. "Archery was awesome!" noted Kimberly S. in her review of the activities available at the campground.

Water sports on Schroon River: Rent kayaks or canoes to explore the calmer sections of the river near camping areas. "We stayed on their 'rustic campsite', which was a short 900 ft hike from the car. Could see the lake from our site and the spots were relatively spread out," reported Tracy B. about her experience at Scaroon Manor Campground.

Local hiking trails: Access nearby trails ranging from easy walks to more challenging terrain within 15-20 minutes of most campgrounds. "The Inman Pond Trail (about 15 minutes north of the campground) is a nice easy walk in the woods which takes you to a pretty pond good for fishing and a great place for my dog to swim," wrote Nancy W. about trails accessible from Moose Hillock.

Berry picking: Seasonal wild berries grow throughout the area, particularly in July. "Bonus is you camp in July, there are raspberry bushes throughout the park!" mentioned Sheri S. about her stay at Moose Hillock Camping Resorts.

    What campers like

Private waterfront sites: Many campers appreciate the more secluded waterfront options available at certain campgrounds. "We had a site on the river and it was beautiful! The river is the attraction at this Campground that provides hours of entertainment," reported Happy Camper L. at Lake George Riverview Campground.

Clean individual bathrooms: Some facilities offer more private bathroom options than standard campground fare. "The private bathrooms were an unexpected surprise. Each bathroom was large with toilet, sink and shower!" noted Jim B. about the facilities at Lake George Riverview Campground.

Spacious camping areas: Site size varies significantly between campgrounds in the region. "The sites at this park are huge. You could have parked three RVs in our site. Added bonus is that there is nice separation between sites with trees and shrubs that block out your neighbors and provide lots of privacy," explained Nancy W. about her experience at Moose Hillock Camping Resorts.

Proximity to towns: Many campers value the balance between natural settings and access to nearby communities. "There is a cute town down the road which has a liquor store, grocery store, bakery, coffee shop and a couple of bars," mentioned Tracy B. about the amenities near Scaroon Manor Campground.

    What you should know

Seasonal insect activity: Mosquitos can be particularly intense in certain areas, especially near water. "Beautiful large spots new and clean restrooms. Just next to the lake for a swim. So many mosquitos," warned Julie V. about her experience at Scaroon Manor Campground.

Noise considerations: Proximity to roads affects sound levels at some campgrounds. "Friday and Saturday night there was a ton of street noise from Rt9," reported Ryan K. about his weekend at Hearthstone Point Campground.

Wildlife encounters: Local wildlife, including coyotes, are active near camping areas. "Coyotes were howling all night and definitely heard some around our campground," shared Drew H. about the rustic camping area at Scaroon Manor Campground.

Limited cell service: Connectivity varies widely throughout the region. "Cell service is iffy. I was getting 1-2 bars with Verizon," reported Jean C. about her stay at Rogers Rock Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Beach access: Seek out campgrounds with dedicated swimming areas for children. "The beach area has a lifeguard to watch over the swimmers. Dogs are not permitted on the beach," explained John W. in his review of Rogers Rock Campground.

Playground facilities: Some campgrounds maintain play equipment specifically for younger campers. "This campground did have a newer playground which my kids loved, as well," mentioned Kasey M. about her family's experience at Lake George Schroon Valley Resort.

Evening activities: Certain campgrounds schedule regular entertainment options. "Free shows every night at the playhouse kids loved. Animal shows kept daytime events going strong," shared Michael C. about his family's week at Lake George RV Park.

Multi-generational options: Consider facilities that accommodate various age groups. "We had multi-generations camping. From the great grandmother to 2 1/2 yr toddler we all enjoyed the pool. Walk in style, large, heated, slides," described Julie E. about her family's stay at Moose Hillock Camping Resorts.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared for uneven terrain at some campgrounds. "Some campsites were pretty small and would not fit large RVs. Roads in the park are confusing because none are parallel or perpendicular so we had to go slow just to make sure we didn't miss a turn in the RV," cautioned Nancy W. about navigating Lake George Escape Campground.

Road width considerations: Narrow campground roads can present challenges for larger vehicles. "Some roads are unpaved, unmarked with directional signs, very narrow, and tough to navigate," warned Kim T. about driving through Rogers Rock Campground.

Specific site selection: Research individual sites when booking. "Some of the sites in the older section have sand/dirt patios and sandy roads which makes it very dusty. The new area has crushed gravel and lots more room and some pull-thru sites," noted Nancy W. about Lake George Riverview Campground.

Service hookup locations: Pay attention to utility placement when selecting sites. "The water/electric was positioned perfectly that we could have gotten away with using 5 foot connections," mentioned Debbie W. during her stay at Lake George RV Park.
