Robert H. Treman State Park Campground

    Good location

Location: This park is close to Ithaca which was the best part. Trails and Natural Features: We loved the waterfall, swimming area (seasonal so closed when we stayed), and the fall colors. Sites: They have very few electric sites so we decided to boondock. It surprised me that all the full hookup sites were reserved but very people actually showed up for their reservations while we stayed. Lame. And heads up that if you don’t stay in the big clearing for big rigs, there are tight turns between trees to get in and out of the non-electric sites. We ended up making a back-in site into a pull-through site… whoops. Starlink: I work remotely so internet is important. We weren’t camping in the clearing because those sites were booked, but even the Starlink struggled where we were and I ended up working from the library in town. So heads up if you need internet. Bathrooms: They were spacious but older. Temperature in the showers was tricky. Hot is cold and cold it hot. Cool stuff: They had compost bins and provide bags for all campers. That’s cool!

    Finger Lakes RV Resort

Beautiful new spacious RV resort in excellent location.

We arrived on Saturday, 10.8.22 and are staying for a week. This is a delightful location. Rachel and Doug are cheerful, attentive, and very personable owners who are on-site at almost all times. This park just opened this year, so we checked in at an entrance building that they're using until their primary building is complete. We were greeted with delicious cookies, our site(#9) backs up to a wooded area(with a hiking path buried in there) with a lot of space. We booked early, which was a good thing because they were 100% full for Indigenous People's Day. We chose this site because there was a lot of room around it and we're used to really tightly packed RV parks. But what we found is that all of the sites are very nicely spread out with generous spacing, so that's not an issue. It's still nice to be on the outskirts. We also chose this section per a review we read to be away from the main road noise, but there really isn't much road noise to worry about, anyway. The WiFi is strong and consistent. We're using 30amps, but they also have 20 and 50amp service to each site. The water pressure is great. The bath house is new and very comfortable. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring and lots of room for big rigs. We watched Doug neaten up sites after other RV's vacated, which shows an attention to detail we don't often find. They also drive by each site every morning to collect trash and recycling. The sunsets are spectacular over the lake(we can't see the lake from here, but it's close). There are numerous award-winning wineries surrounding us and up and down the lake. We're headed out for tastings today. We've been hiking the last few days- Watkins Glen State Park- Gorge Trail(go early or it gets REALLY crowded), Taughannock State Park- Gorge& North Ridge Trail over on Cayuga Lake, and a concert(Rufus Wainwright) at Point of the Bluff Winery over on Keuka Lake. We stopped afterward for dinner in Hammondsport at Timber Stone Grill which was truly wonderful. That's about 35- 45 minutes away. Lots more hiking trails to do in the National Forest and surrounding areas. And there's Watkins Glen, a charming town just minutes away. We highly recommend Finger Lakes RV Resort and we'll be back!

    Webster Park

    Close Family Camping

We go to webster park family campground several times a year for the past few years. Usually sometime in early May and in late October with an occasional day or two mid summer. It is a smaller single loop campground with sites for tents/small trailers, larger trailers, and motor homes. He difference is 30a power and no water or sewer, 50a power and water, and 50a power and water/sewer. There is a dump station. The motor home sites are all along the entrance road. The small and large trailer sites are distributed around the loop. Nice central playground and bathroom/shower house. There is hiking in the park, lots of nice woods, big field for playing games/sports. It’s close to town and home for us. We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground. We like site 1 as well. We stay on the outer ring on that side of loop as it gives access to the woods and trails behind the sites. The campground is very quiet and very kid friendly to allow them to walk around and ride or scooter the loop alone.

They allow reservations online on the monroe county parks website, and are open May 1st to October 31st.

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Simple

The only Finger Lakes National Forest designated campground, Blueberry Patch offers a secluded experience in the heart of this sometimes overlooked beautiful geographic region in the State of New York. This campground offers a simple experience, with fire rings and picnic tables at each site and seems to accommodate just tent and small campers. Vault toilets available. On a week day in early summer, 3 of the 9 campsites we’re occupied. Can see it filling up on weekends. Enjoy!

    Keuka Lake State Park Campground

    Wonderful Finger Lakes Camping

Large grassy sites with privacy between the sites. Most sites have a good level gravel pad to park on.

We stayed in the non-electric loop with a small travel trailer, but there are electric sites available. Spigots for water are spaced well enough that with a few lengths you can fill up.

The hike to the beach wasn't too bad through the woods, with ones being a grassy walking path and the other being a dirt trail through the woods. The beach is typically crowded.

This is a place I would always recommend.

Blueberry Patch Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Quietest Place on Earth

Small and quiet national forest campground, just about 20 minutes from the hustle and bustle of both Ithaca and Watkins Glen. We woke up to thrushes singing and fell asleep to nightingales and owls calling!  Sites are basic with a picnic table and fire ring. Two pit toilets and trash/recycling are available, but no drinking water (also no streams for filtering water…so come prepared). Some sites can accommodate longer RV’s and some are perfect for tents.  All sites have quite a bit of shade and privacy as they are lined with trees and shrubs.

The best part about this campground is you are perfectly situated in the heart of the NY wine country!  Seneca Lake is just a couple miles west and has more wineries than you can possibly visit. Our favorite was Catharine Valley Winery…great wine, fun atmosphere, and gorgeous view of the vineyards and lake.

Also, with the help of a local, we found Smith Memorial Park – a great place to launch our kayaks and make some dinner at the beach. Their campground is currently closed for renovations, but there is a boat launch/docks, picnic pavilion, and a lovely view of the sunset.

    No reservations, first-come first served.

Guide to Port Byron

Family camping and RV options around Port Byron, New York cater to diverse outdoor preferences across Finger Lakes terrain. Located near the southern shore of Lake Ontario, this region experiences mild summers with average temperatures between 70-80°F and fall temperatures dropping to 50-60°F. Mosquitos can be problematic near water sources during summer months, with several campgrounds implementing regular spraying schedules.

What to do

Beach activities at Lake Ontario: Brennan Beach Campground offers direct beach access for swimming and lakeside recreation. "Spent time at the beach which is also very nice," notes a camper who appreciated the location's family-friendly atmosphere.

Water recreation options: Local campgrounds provide multiple water activities beyond swimming. At Woonton Family Farms, visitors have "the option of canoeing" with sites near water features. One international traveler reported having "an excellent stay at the farm of the Woonton Family Farms with our RV."

Hiking at nearby parks: Several campgrounds offer trail access or proximity to natural attractions. "Salmon River Falls...is a 'must see' while there. Basically 15 minutes from the campground," recommends a visitor about locations near Brennan Beach. "Mexico Point is another close attraction to see as well."

What campers like

Privacy and space between sites: Finger Lakes RV Resort earns high marks for site layout. "This is a family owned campground and the owners were very friendly and took pride in their business...the campground sites are very large and spread out," writes one reviewer who appreciated the thoughtful design.

Amenities for extended stays: Campgrounds offer varying levels of services based on stay duration. According to one camper, Brennan Beach provides "well kept campground. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful," making it suitable for longer visits with its extensive facilities.

Location convenience to attractions: Proximity to local attractions drives many booking decisions. One Finger Lakes RV Resort visitor noted its strategic positioning: "Easy drive to Watkins Glen, Lake Seneca, Ithaca, and the greater Finger Lakes region," with "walking paths from the campground to two different wineries."

What you should know

Seasonal operation limits: Most RV campgrounds near Port Byron operate on limited schedules. Lake Bluff RV Park runs "April 15 to October 31," with similar timeframes across most facilities. Fall camping requires advance planning as "fall foliage season fills many parks fast."

Weather contingencies: Prepare for occasional severe weather disruptions. One camper at Finger Lakes RV Resort experienced "a severe thunderstorm one evening which resulted in an area-wide power outage that lasted a couple days," though they noted the owners provided refunds as courtesy.

Site leveling challenges: Not all RV sites are perfectly level. At Twilight on the Erie RV Resort, a camper observed, "Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach. We changed sites three times and finally resigned ourselves to not being leveled."

Tips for camping with families

Speed-controlled camping roads: Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort enforces strict driving rules for child safety. "The speed limit is 5 MPH and they mean it.... Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area and the pool far enough from the campsites but close to the store and watchful eye of the staff."

Activity planning for children: Weekend programming keeps families engaged. "Kids activities are great. Even with COVID they have stuff to keep them busy," reported a Lake Bluff visitor, while another mentioned "They do events for kids every weekend."

Recreational facilities: Some campgrounds offer dedicated recreation buildings. Lake Bluff features "a nice game room pool, air hockey, video games. There is a change machine too," according to one family-oriented review.

Tips from RVers

Navigational considerations: RV size determines suitable campgrounds. Spruce Row Campground provides thirty-amp hookups but is "NO big-rig-friendly" according to their amenities listing, making it better suited for smaller rigs.

Utility reliability assessment: Utilities vary significantly between properties. At Finger Lakes RV Resort, campers report "Easy maneuverability, great wifi and water pressure, along with level sites," representing the premium end of available services.

Site selection strategy: Consider location within larger campgrounds. One visitor at Spruce Row warned about being "on an end spot at an intersection inside the campground...they unfortunately were able to shine their lights on us every time they turned the corner after dark while we were around our camp fire," suggesting interior sites offer more privacy.
