    Willow Bay Recreation Area

    Quiet nights, Easy days

Willow bay campground is run by the National Forest Service. The reservable lots are wide and numerous for a out of the way sight. The campground services tent sites, RV sites as well as small cabins with electricity. There is a central bathhouse near the oak loop. Closer to the boat ramp sites- most of which are tent ready, there are vault toilets. These sites are less than a mile from the North Country Trail. Other, smaller trails are here as well. The New York State lone is less than five miles away- providing access to Allegheny State Park. The closest town of note is Bradford, which is about 18 miles away. It has all you need to get your necessities. The cabins were small- one twin bed and a set of single bunks. You need to bring your own sheets. There is a small heater imbedded in the wall. It keeps things from getting too cold, as it was when I was there. Fire ring and picnic table provided. Charcoal grill as well. The only problem I had was with the wildlife. A mouse or something kep crawling in the space between the roof and ceiling. There is no cel service here, and you shouldn’t need it either. Places to visit are too numerous to mention, but I will give a shout out to the zippo case museum, absolutely a must.

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Great campground

We stayed here three nights to ride out a heat wave and really liked it. Sites are electric only, with a dump station available at the entrance and one in the campground loop. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, where you awkwardly pull over to the side of the road and fill your tank. Sites are pretty much wide open, with zero separation between you and your neighbor. Most are out in direct sun but the ones along the edge have some tree cover and shade.

There are yurts here as well, and a playground, and a huge disc golf course. You can walk to the beach from the campground (dogs aren’t allowed on the beach). The nature center is right in the campground, by the basketball and tennis courts.

Showers were dirty and buggy, but they’re free and you can actually choose your own water temperature. NY State campgrounds require proof of rabies vaccinations for your dogs.

Good cell reception for Verizon, ATT wasn’t great but the cell booster helped. Trash bins, but no recycling. Beautiful sunset on the lake.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

Quaker Area — Allegany State Park State Park

    Quaker Area- Buffalo Cabin #8

We head out to Allegany State Park every year in late fall. The cabins are perfect for cooler temperatures and cozying up beside the wood stove. The table and chairs provided inside the cabin are perfect for eating on and prepping food.

The buffalo trail is perfect for a weekend getaway, with Cabin 8 far in the corner, providing lots of space between nearby cabins. It is also beside the river and provides a wonderful sound to fall asleep to.

Shower facilities are just down the road and were very clean! The bathroom facilities on the buffalo cabin loop are also equally clean and warm in the colder temperatures!

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

Bova Cottages — Allegany State Park

    A lot of space

The water is easy to find, bathrooms are available with showers, and the options are tents, cabins, or RV camping. Do not leave food out. The bears are very ambitious.

    Good location

Sites are were nice and big but not private at all. I was in site 300, it was like a large lawn with a tree, which was great for shade. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. Not a lot of privacy. Really nice bathrooms nice showers. Amazing being so close to Lake Ontario.

Guide to North Collins

Cabins near North Collins, New York range from rustic structures to fully-equipped accommodations throughout the surrounding countryside. Located in Erie County at approximately 900 feet elevation, this area experiences distinct seasons with snowy winters and mild summers ideal for outdoor recreation. Most cabin rentals require advance reservations with peak season running May through October when average temperatures range between 65-80°F.

What to do

Hiking and nature trails: Allegany State Park offers extensive hiking options through forested terrain. "There are nice trails through the woods and nice camping spots with nice views of sunsets and the water. The facilities are nice and some are new," notes one visitor to Evangola State Park Campground.

Lake activities: Multiple parks provide lake access for fishing, kayaking, and swimming. At Lake Erie State Park Campground, "There is a short walk from campsite to the lake. Try to see sunset!" Many cabins offer convenient access to these water features, with some overlooking the shoreline.

Winter recreation: Cabin rentals continue year-round in many locations. "The cabins are awesome all year round. The park has a lot to do in the summer but a group can still have a blast in the winter," reports a camper about the Quaker Area cabins.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently rate cabin and bathroom cleanliness as important. "Clean, plenty to do," remarks one camper about Branches of Niagara Campground, which offers both standard and deluxe cabin options.

Scenic views: Lake vistas rank high on camper satisfaction. A visitor to Lake Erie State Park notes, "This campground is FANTASTIC! When you think State Park there is almost always a compromise, but not here... the views are EPIC!" Lake cabins often command premium rates but provide memorable sunset viewing opportunities.

Proximity to attractions: Cabins serve as convenient bases for regional tourism. "Lots of activities at this park, staff is friendly, clean pools, facilities, zip line, boat rentals, spacious sites, and minutes from the falls!" explains a camper at Branches of Niagara, highlighting the advantages of cabin accommodations near major attractions.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most cabins require substantial advance booking, especially for summer weekends. "We were able to book a solo night day of online. Otherwise it's two night minimum. There were plenty of spots available when I stayed on a Wednesday night," shares a Lake Erie State Park visitor.

Amenity variations: Cabin facilities differ significantly between properties. Jellystone Park of Western New York offers higher-end options: "We hit this campground on our way through to Lake George, and I was genuinely upset that we couldn't stay longer. So many fun amenities. It's like a water park meets campground."

Seasonal considerations: Winter cabin stays require different preparation than summer visits. Some properties maintain limited winter services, while others close entirely. Accessibility to cabins may be compromised during snow events, with some parks requiring chains or four-wheel drive vehicles.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Family-friendly cabin options include those with dedicated recreational programming. "This was the most perfect family campground we've been to. The staff is very nice and they're always outside working and helping. They have every amenity you could need and the grounds are pristine," reports a visitor about Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday.

Cabin selection: Choose accommodations based on proximity to restrooms and play areas. "Our site was not very secluded but was spacious. The facilities were quite clean but a bit of a walk from our site," notes an Evangola State Park visitor, highlighting the importance of cabin location within campgrounds.

Bring entertainment options: Even at activity-rich properties, weather may limit outdoor recreation. Pack indoor games and activities for potential rainy days when staying in cabins, as televisions and internet access are not standard in most state park accommodations.

Tips for RVers

Park entrance considerations: Some cabin areas share access roads with RV camping sections. "The campground was easy to maneuver our large 5th wheel around. There were full hook ups on our site," explains a visitor to Branches of Niagara Campground, where cabin areas adjoin RV sections.

Cabin alternatives: Many properties offer both RV sites and cabins, allowing groups to mix accommodation types. When full hookup sites are unavailable, cabins provide comfortable alternatives for those traveling with RVs during peak season or maintenance issues.

Parking logistics: Most cabin rentals include designated parking for one or two vehicles only. "The campsites were a good size although most have no natural shade or privacy," reports a visitor about Four Mile Creek State Park Campground, where limited parking areas may require alternative arrangements for additional vehicles.
