    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

    Field Camping

It's not all bad! It took a while to find our site in the dark as site markers are small. The sites are decent size, the bathrooms are clean but spiders will hang out. Showers are hot. Sites are available with electric and there is an RV dump station if you have one. There are a lot of RVs at this campground, a large playground, and a field with soccer goals (no net). Niagara Falls is 15 or so miles away, and Buffalo NY is a short drive. The bathroom building has an outdoor sink with heated water, and this is also where the trash bins are.  Firewood is available in front of many nearby homes (a couple of miles, max,and $4-5 a bundle). The fire pits are either low or leaning, so we found a camp stove to be essential. It can get quite windy, we saw a tent buckle and our stakes were pulled up from the wind. It can get loud at night and it doesn't seem as if quiet hours are enforced. I'd stay again but only if a more private campground was unavailable.

    Evangola State Park Campground

    Great campground

We stayed here three nights to ride out a heat wave and really liked it. Sites are electric only, with a dump station available at the entrance and one in the campground loop. There are potable water spigots throughout the campground, where you awkwardly pull over to the side of the road and fill your tank. Sites are pretty much wide open, with zero separation between you and your neighbor. Most are out in direct sun but the ones along the edge have some tree cover and shade.

There are yurts here as well, and a playground, and a huge disc golf course. You can walk to the beach from the campground (dogs aren’t allowed on the beach). The nature center is right in the campground, by the basketball and tennis courts.

Showers were dirty and buggy, but they’re free and you can actually choose your own water temperature. NY State campgrounds require proof of rabies vaccinations for your dogs.

Good cell reception for Verizon, ATT wasn’t great but the cell booster helped. Trash bins, but no recycling. Beautiful sunset on the lake.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

    Niagaras Lazy Lakes Camping Resort

    Clean & Friendly

We have camped here several times. Bathrooms are very clean along with the showers. They are cleaned on a daily basis. Store on site has just the bare amenities. Big clubhouse, 2 heated pools and a pond to fish (catch & release). Sites are big. Pet friendly. Staff are very friendly. 10-15 minutes from Niagara Falls and close to stores. It does have 2 on site laundry facilities but the dryers take a while. Enjoy going there.

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

Guide to Lancaster

Cabin rentals near Lancaster, New York typically range from rustic to upscale accommodations within a 30-mile radius. This region of Western New York experiences warm summers with average temperatures of 80°F and cold winters that can drop below 20°F. Most Lancaster-area cabin facilities operate from May through October, with limited winter availability.

What to do

Water activities at Darien Lakes State Park: The park features hiking trails, fishing, and a small lake for swimming during summer months. "Enjoyed grassy areas and mature trees and small lake. Sites well spaced. Clean and well maintained. We were there on a weekday, told weekends are busy. Not buggy," noted Carol B. at Darien Lakes State Park Campground.

Outdoor adventures at Four Mile Creek: Located on Lake Ontario, this park offers sunset views over the water and access to hiking trails. "About 30 minutes from Niagara Falls. Staff inside office were very friendly-gave many trail suggestions and good tips for navigating the city. Comes with state park parking pass to park free and access to town shuttle," says a reviewer at Four Mile Creek State Park Campground.

Winter activities in cabin areas: Some cabins remain accessible during colder months. "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities. No issues with animals," reported Leah W. about her experience at Darien Lakes.

What campers like

Proximity to attractions: Many cabin locations provide access to regional highlights. "Located a short drive to the Falls, on the 'less busy side,' to boot! Sites for all types of camping available as well as nice new cabins and yurts for rent!" commented Erin H. about HTR Niagara Campground.

Restaurant access at some locations: Certain cabin facilities include dining options on premises. "Small store, paddleboats, bar and restaurant. Great place," noted a reviewer about Colden Lakes Resort, which offers cabin rentals along with dining facilities.

Recreational facilities: Many cabin locations feature additional amenities. "Lots of activities at this park, staff is friendly, clean pools, facilities, zip line, boat rentals, spacious sites, and minutes from the falls!" reported Keri about HTR Niagara Campground, highlighting the variety of on-site recreation.

What you should know

Seasonal operating schedules: Operating dates vary significantly between locations, affecting cabin availability. "This is a large campground. Walking distance to the theme park. Campground fees include admission to the theme park. The sites are very nice and well maintained," explains Mary H. about Six Flags Darien Lake Campground, which operates May 10 through October 31.

Winter preparation requirements: For cabins open during colder months, additional gear is necessary. "We were able to park deeper off the road due to the kindness of the owners letting us borrow an extension cord. Behind us was a field and we parked between two trees which was awesome," shared Raquel H. about her stay at Colden Lakes Resort.

Booking windows and peak periods: Reservations for popular cabin locations should be made well in advance. "if you like a park that is near an amusement park and not that quiet this is for you. You are still out in nature and have those aspects but you dont get that lost into nature here to me," advises Adam R. about Six Flags Darien Lake Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Jellystone offers family-focused amenities: This park specializes in family entertainment with themed activities. "This place is great for a family. Water park, fishing, kayaking, swimming. It has it all. We went on the 4th of July and they had amazing fireworks and activities galore for the kids," recommends Matthew M. about Jellystone Park of Western New York.

Look for parks with swimming options: Water features rank high for families with children. "I've camped here since I was a little kid. Always clean and well maintained. Also has a nice beach and all newly remodeled bathrooms," shared Jim S. about Darien Lakes State Park.

Consider proximity to theme parks: Some cabin locations offer easy access to larger attractions. "This was the most perfect family campground we've been to. The staff is very nice and they're always outside working and helping. The back sites were perfect and decent sized. They have every amenity you could need and the grounds are pristine," notes L.W. about HTR Niagara Campground.

Tips from RVers

Electrical hookup details: Cabins and RV sites often have different electrical configurations. "We had a lake front spot but our electricity didn't work. When I called they said someone would come check it 'later'. We didn't have power for our short visit," cautions a reviewer about Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground.

Site characteristics and positioning: The layout of cabin and RV areas varies between campgrounds. "Sites are easy access, rock bed for the sites, you are escorted to site. Easy access to local attractions, including Niagara Falls. Multiple things to do around the local community and on the park. Internet is really good and has been upgraded recently with 2G and 5G access," reports Kirk S. about Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday.

Off-season considerations: Services may be reduced during shoulder seasons. "We arrived late and our site info was in the night drop so all good. It is right off the roadway so there is some road noise. However it is a heavily populated area and we just needed a layover place to base out of for our quick visit to Niagara falls," explains Thomas S. about his KOA experience.
