The western New York landscape surrounding Hamburg provides a mix of state parks, private campgrounds, and lakeside camping options within a 30-mile radius. Sprague Brook Park in nearby Glenwood offers tent and RV sites with electric hookups in a wooded setting, while Evangola State Park Campground provides lakefront camping along Lake Erie's shoreline. Darien Lakes State Park Campground, located northeast of Hamburg, features multiple accommodation types including tent sites, RV hookups, cabins, and yurts with boat-in access options. East Otto State Forest represents one of the few free camping options in the region, offering more primitive sites for those seeking a less developed experience.

Most campgrounds in the Hamburg area operate seasonally from April or May through mid-October, with advance reservations strongly recommended during summer weekends and holiday periods. Winter camping is limited, with Erie County Sprague Brook Park being one of the few year-round options. The region experiences significant seasonal variation, with summer temperatures typically ranging from 70-85°F and occasional thunderstorms. As one camper noted about nearby Lake Erie State Park, "Views of Lake Erie are spectacular. Nice walking trails, and there's a disc-golf course and playground. We couldn't get a lake-side site but that would be spectacular." Proximity to Buffalo and Niagara Falls makes many campgrounds popular weekend destinations for both locals and tourists.

Waterfront access represents a significant draw for campers in the region, with sites near Lake Erie or smaller lakes commanding premium rates and requiring earlier reservations. The Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday provides family-oriented camping with full hookups and amenities like paddle boats and fishing ponds, though some campers mention highway noise during daytime hours. HTR Niagara Campground receives consistently high ratings for its cleanliness and spacious sites. According to one visitor: "Beautiful, peaceful, spacious campground with so many hidden gems. The lake is pretty and the campground's access from the Grand Island side of Buffalo to Niagara Falls is very convenient, yet away from the loud commotion and traffic." Privacy varies significantly between campgrounds, with state parks generally offering more space between sites than private facilities.

      Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday

      Decent Campground

Sights aren’t super level but that just helps with snuggling. Full hookups. They deliver firewood and pickup trash. Staff is nice. Main bath house could use an update but there are private “family” restrooms with shower that look pretty nice. Good store( I got a nice fire poker). Unfortunately it’s close to the highway and it’s loud! If you are going to the falls you can just catch the city bus back and forth($2 dollars per person each way, 2026).

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

      Beautiful state park

Four mile creek state park spacious with beautiful mature trees and is alongside the stunning Lake Ontario. The grounds are lush and green and well tended. Some sites get very waterlogged when it rains. We were in 306 and 307 and we had ponds around the campsite. Restrooms and showers are very nice.

      East Otto State Forest

      Good and Free

I stayed for one night on my way to Niagara Falls. Google map directions end at a house but keep driving straight and you’ll see the sign of the park and directions to campground.-easy to find. I got to use my generator and was not too busy. I did notice a camper that belonged to someone that was living in it full time but parked away from it. I have a 16 ft long travel trailer and worked great. It gets very muddy after rain (just saying)

      Windfall Ponds

Calm, peaceful and out of the way

This place is beautiful and secluded. We stayed 2 nights caught in some storm weather but the storm barely shook us. There are 2 ponds with room for large tents near them and plenty of wood around. The nearest stores are at the rez, and the people who work there are delightful.

Site conditions: not trashed, but littered with spent ammunition and some trees are damaged. A little bit of broken glass around some boulders. We picked up what we could fit in the trash.

Signal notes: 0/5 for AT&T. You have to go up the road a bit to call out.

Wildlife notes: signs of deer, raccoon and wild dog. We saw falcons, frogs, a skunk and red eft newts. In the pond are bluegill and red efts. !!! RED EFTS !!! (Eastern Newts) do secrete toxin so DO NOT TOUCH. Pests: ticks, mayfly, mosquitos

      Daisy Barn Campground

Avoid Daisy Barn Camping - Questionable Cancellation Policy

I have not stayed here-The reservation was for late June 2026

I reserved a one night primitive site for $65.30 and canceled 104 days in advance due to a change in travel plans. I was initially sent a receipt showing a refund would be issued, but it never showed up.

When I called, I was told by Kim that the full payment was considered a “non-refundable deposit,” even though it was the entire cost of the stay. After pushing back, I was told by Kim that a credit would be issued - but I still have not received anything.

It was also difficult to get in touch with someone by phone.

Cancelling more than three months in advance should give them plenty of time to rebook the site. The way their refund policy was explained feels more like a revenue tactic than a fair policy.

I would not book again with Daisy Barn Campground

      Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday

      Large KOA

This was a large KOA campground with many sites, cabins, activity center, etc. We were there in late October and it was partially closed down. Quite pricey. Clean facilities. Somewhat close to interstate noise. Convenient to access Niagara Falls.

      Cain hollow campground

      Nice Campground

Lots of sites but doesn’t feel too crowded or busy. Bathrooms are clean. Nice views of the surrounding hills from some sites.
