Best RV Parks & Resorts near Springfield, NJ

Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City offers 90 RV sites with water, electric, and dump station access just 30 minutes from Springfield, New Jersey. This urban RV park provides 30/50 amp service and accommodates big rigs, though it lacks sewer hookups at individual sites. NWS Earle RV Park in Colts Neck features concrete pads with full hookups including 50 amp service, operating seasonally from April through mid-November. Mountain Top RV Park provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups, while Butterfly Camping Resort offers spacious pull-through sites with 50 amp service. "The sites were level and well maintained. They also allowed us to put the car tent on the same site as a friend's camper," noted one RV camper about Turkey Swamp Park, which features pull-through sites with water and electric hookups.

Cell service varies significantly across RV parks in the region, with several campers reporting spotty coverage at certain locations. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation provides 50 amp service and water hookups with nicely spaced, level sites, though larger motorhomes may find navigation challenging in some areas. Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites operates seasonally from Memorial Day to Labor Day with full hookup sites, but prohibits pets. Navigation to some RV parks requires careful planning - one reviewer cautioned about a "hairpin turn and steep hill" when approaching Driftstone Campground with larger rigs. Most RV parks in the area require reservations, particularly during summer and fall foliage seasons when occupancy rates peak.

    Adventure Bound Camping (Tall Pines)

    Deceiving Website

We stayed at Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer, New Jersey, for Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway. Despite reserving and paying for a“Premium” site, it fell far short. But there were still a few things we liked…

    THINGS I LIKED:

    1. Super-friendly staff, especially Allie, who was courteous and seemed to try to make things right

    2. Lots of mature shade trees

    3. DJ at the pool Saturday and Sunday and live band Saturday evening

    4. Close proximity to Delsea Drive-in Theatre and Cohenzick Zoo

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    1. I reserved and paid-in-full for a premium site which listed 50-amp service and a concrete pad. Nope. Only 30-amp service and no concrete pad. When I called the office, assuming there must’ve been a mistake, I was told by two different staff members that their website is“wonky.” I wouldn’t mind as much, but this weekend was 90-degrees each day and humid, so it would’ve been good to have air conditioning.

    2. The entire park was dirty sand with weeds growing everywhere

    3. This place is not big-rig friendly, difficult to navigate some of the turns in our 45’ motorhome and taking scratches from tree branches that should be trimmed

    4. I paid$432 for 3-nights and feel like I was taken

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

Nope. I’m sticking with campgrounds that give you what you paid for.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Mountain Vista Campground

    Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites

    Quiet, spacious, no frills

We stayed in site #1 with our 21' travel trailer. In our opinion this is the best site because you have an unobstructed view of Stockton Lake & the horizon over the ocean. Big rig spots are further back (around site 6-9 or so). 9 sites total & they are often booked, so need to do so in advance. Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants. Plenty of space for kids to play in the field/grass area. TONS of geese everywhere though. Pets are NOT allowed (but they'd probably help w the geese problem). You get access to the showers with a key card and when you check in, but I don't have anything to report as I used the bathroom/shower in our trailer. Price is great at $45/night. FULL hookups as well. Only annoying thing was the sewer hookup is about 18 inches off the ground so you need to lift the hose when emptying the tanks to ensure it actually fully drains.

Guide to Springfield

RV campgrounds near Springfield, New Jersey offer diverse accommodations within driving distance of New York City and coastal areas. The region experiences four distinct seasons, with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F and winter lows frequently below freezing. Most RV sites in the area close from late November through March, though several year-round options exist for travelers needing winter accommodations.

What to Do

City exploration from base camp: Liberty Harbor RV Park provides convenient access to Manhattan attractions. "Very easy to hop on transit to get to New York City. People were friendly," reports one camper. Another notes, "There is a ferry 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F."

Waterfront activities: RV sites near shorelines offer beach access and water recreation. At Military Park NJ National Guard Training Center RV Sites, "Free beach just a few moments' walk down the road. Close to shore towns & many restaurants," according to a recent visitor.

Hiking trails: Forested campgrounds feature trail networks for day hikes. "We always hike to the lake here, it's a very easy hike and also very peaceful," writes a camper about Mahlon Dickerson Reservation. The reservation includes multiple trails connecting to water features and scenic overlooks.

What Campers Like

Convenient NYC access: Urban-adjacent camping allows day trips into the city without hotel costs. "This is a prime location for visiting the city or heading down the shore. The light rail is a block away, and the path train is about 8," explains a camper about Liberty Harbor RV Park.

Spacious wooded sites: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation offers larger sites with natural separation. "The sites are spaced well and have a nice bonus of large fire rings set back in the woods a bit from the pad that you park on," notes one reviewer. Another adds, "It's beautiful and quiet, and close to beautiful hiking trails, lakes, and other outdoor recreation opportunities."

Clean facilities: Many RV parks maintain well-kept shower and restroom facilities. At Timothy Lake South, "Campground was clean, staff was friendly, sites were decent. My kids explored the playground and found it sufficient," reports a family camper.

What You Should Know

Site variations: Quality and spacing differ significantly between parks. At Tri-State RV Park, "The sites are on the smaller size. The gem is the beautiful grounds, river, and parklike setting. Lots of wildlife around."

Seasonal operations: Several parks limit operating seasons. NWS Earle RV Park runs from April through mid-November while Military Park operates only from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Highway noise levels: Urban proximity sometimes means traffic noise. "Located just off the highway so lots of vehicle noise 24/7. Sites are on a gravel lot," reports a Tri-State RV Park visitor. Another notes, "Very easy to find, right off the highway, full hookups, open year round."

Limited availability: Most RV campgrounds Springfield, New Jersey require advance booking, especially on summer weekends. "Sites are level concrete with full hookups and attached concrete patio," notes a visitor to NWS Earle RV Park, explaining its popularity despite limited spaces.

Tips for Camping with Families

Playground options: Mountain Top RV Park offers family amenities beyond camping. "They have a small playground that would be better suited for older children, and there's also a nice lounge room with games, a pool table, a tv and puzzles/board games," writes a recent visitor.

Beach access considerations: When camping with children, proximity to water features provides entertainment options. "The family-friendly atmosphere was evident through the thoughtfully designed property, including an updated pool, playground, game room, and a brand-new pickleball court that added a unique touch to the stay," reports a Mountain Top RV Park camper.

Bear awareness: Some campgrounds have wildlife considerations. "There are a lot of bear warnings here so that gave us a bit of pause with our three little boys," notes a family staying at Mahlon Dickerson Reservation.

Tips from RVers

Water pressure variations: Check water pressure before connecting. At Timothy Lake South, "Best water pressure I have seen on the east coast, unregulated it's over 80 psi," warns an experienced RVer.

Cell coverage challenges: Service varies widely between campgrounds. "Cell service is awful for AT&T and our T-Mobile gateway. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity," reports a Timothy Lake South camper.

Site selection strategy: Corner or end sites typically offer more space. "Our site (15) said 75' however the 50' hose reel made it to our rv connection," explains a camper at Mahlon Dickerson regarding water hookup arrangements.
