    Sandy Pines Campground

    Sheik Glamping at its Best

Sandy Pines is located a very short bike ride from Cape Porpoise, home of Nunann's Restaurant , Mussette, Lost Fire and Pier 77. Some of the best food in the area without having to deal with the crushing crowds of the Kennebunkport scene. Ride 10 minutes in the opposite direction and you arrive at Goose Rocks Beach , the best shoreline beach on southern Maine.

Sandy Pines has  impeccably maintained  campsites for all style of camper and tent . If you do not have either one, you can rent one of their super funky Gypsy Wagons, A Frame chalets or Glam-tents on the platform . Just add yourself and stir. You cannot have a bad time.

    Sandy Pines Campground

    Immaculate!

This is our first visit to Sandy Pines and we are so impressed with how well groomed this property is. We stayed in the Beach Rose section and we have full hookups. We took a mid- September vacation and love how nice it is with fellow campers spread out. We are not resort campers, but this is very nice now that children are back in school. The pool is heated and very inviting. There is a playground. So many choices of cabins or glamping tents to rent. Dogs are welcome. Big rig friendly. Very close to attractions and restaurants and stores. We will be back next year with friends. We camped in our Minnie Winnie travel trailer. The Wi-Fi is hit and miss unsecured. Mostly miss.

    Pawtuckaway State Park Campground

Large and friendly park with plenty of water activity opportunities

My first time experiencing a park in the New Hampshire Park system. We went down with a group. Pawtuckaway State Park offers a variety of landscapes, with something to do and see for everyone. The park includes a large family beach on the lake. There are many opportunities for hiking, with trails leading to many special points of interest, including a mountaintop fire tower; an extensive marsh where beavers, deer, and great blue herons may be seen.

The park lines the shore of beautiful Pawtuckaway Lake.  The 192 sites are wooded and many provide views of the lake.  Each campsite has an open fire ring, picnic table, flat areas for a tent, and a parking space. The bathhouses are equipped with running water, flush toilets, and 24 hour showers.  There are no hook-ups at any of the campsites. The park also has a camp store where canoe and kayaks are available, as well as a plublic canoe and kayak launch. Five cabins are available; each sleeps six people, has electricity, and includes a fire ring and picnic table. Pets are not allowed in the campground or beach area of the park.

    Ellacoya State Park Campground

    basic but decent RV Park

PROs: Small and typically quiet (always depends on the neighbors you get) Right on the lake with great views of the mountains Easy access to the adjoining state park beach Always a nice breeze Full hookups (W,E,S) at each site Sites are level and mostly grassy Sites are more spacious than some RV campgrounds we’ve been at

CONs: Do not have fire rings/grills at sites, although some are available at the waterfront area No Pets allowed Little to no shade No privacy between sites, very open. Showers are currently not in service

    Sandy Pines Campground

    Awesome campground

Awesome campground. Beautiful setting, lots of trees, bordering on beautiful marsh area. Many different types of campsites: rent, RV, seasonal RV, cottages, glamping tents and cabins etc. We stayed at site 4 in Beach Rose area. Loved it. Super well maintained, owners invested a ton in upgrades. Cleanest bathrooms and showers (individual stalls) we’ve ever seen. Great location - can walk to beach on dyke road, good hiking nearby at Steele Nature Preserve. Good road biking with shoulders on many roads. Awesome place, we would return. Note that it used to be called Salty Acres but was renamed Sandy Pines.

    Sandy Pines Campground

    Pristine beautiful campground

This is high end camping! Cleanest nicest bathrooms and showers I’ve ever seen camping. Also fun game areas and a beautiful store which has good food too! The sites are very nice and not too close together. We tent camp but they also offer small cabins which looked adorable and glamping tents. Easy access to local trails and tourist spots. A fantastic campground I hope to return to

    Oxbow Campground

    Great campground!

Wonderful sites that are spacious! Clean, WiFi available, a pond for swimming, playground, free paddle boats :), a recreational hall with a pool table & video games, laundromat. They have lots of fun family activities! We stayed with our parents in their camper for a couple nights and had such a positive experience there! They have 3 separate ponds-one for fishing, one for boating & the larger one is for swimming. Plenty of bathrooms throughout campground and sites are not expensive to reserve. Clean & up-to-date bathrooms with hot showers. Family-oriented with friendly staff. We will be returning, for sure!

    Cape Ann Camp Site

    Great campsite!

Beautiful campsite, nice sized sites surrounded by trees so it felt pretty private. Bathrooms and showers well maintained, 25 cents for 5 minute shower. No cell service but wifi available at the office. Only thing we didn't like washere a lot of people walking dogs and let them "go" wherever.

What to do

Paddling activities: Kayaking and canoeing are popular at Pawtuckaway State Park Campground, where multiple water access points connect to the park's island system. "This a a fantastic little camp for if you want to go canoeing or kayaking or boating of any kind! It's set up of three islands and a large majority of the campsites are right on the water," notes camper Matt R.

Hiking trails: The extensive trail network at Bear Brook State Park Campground offers day hikes ranging from 1-10 miles through varied terrain. "Located in a 10000 acre forest preserve, the campground is heavily forested and very secluded from civilization," reports Ellen C. The park contains multiple ponds connected by well-marked walking paths.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple ponds and lakes within the camping area contain bass, perch, and trout depending on season. "The sites on the water book up quickly but they're perfect for fishing and boating. Also, the view!" mentions J L. about Pawtuckaway's waterfront sites.

What campers like

Lakefront access: Calef Lake Camping Area provides direct water access with swimming areas separate from fishing zones. "Located Beside a lake, The water is great for swimming, and the playground is absolutely perfect for kids and adults alike," writes Alyse-Beast F. The campground maintains separate dog-friendly water areas.

Weekend activities: Autumn Hills Campground organizes structured weekend events throughout the camping season. "They do have a pool, park, dog park, lake and food trucks visits at times. They have community fires and dances," notes Jen in her review. The campground schedules activities primarily on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Privacy options: Some sites offer more seclusion than others at various campgrounds. "Lots of small people powered boats on the lake," mentions Susan B. about Pawtuckaway, while another camper explains how Bear Brook offers "spacious and private from the other sites on either side."

What you should know

Booking windows: Reservations open January 1st for most campgrounds, with waterfront sites booking 4-6 months in advance. At Pawtuckaway, a camper notes, "If you plan ahead and get a water front site it's amazing... but all the sites are roomy and lovely to camp at!"

Pet policies: Rules vary significantly between campgrounds. According to Erin W., "Tried to plan ahead this year and get a prime site to learn they don't allow dogs anywhere in the campground during summer months. I would of hoped for one loop but NH state parks are anti-dog I guess." Always confirm pet policies before booking.

Site variations: Wakeda Campground has sites with significant differences in privacy and amenities. "We were overwhelmed by the beautiful massive forest. The campground was splendid with old tall, pine trees everywhere," explains Pawsfuradventure T., though noting some sites are more exposed than others.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Multiple swimming areas exist across different campgrounds, each with unique features. "They have 3 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Lots of activities for the kids and the bathrooms were pretty clean for a campground," shares Julia B. about Friendly Beaver Campground.

Noise considerations: Campgrounds have varying enforcement of quiet hours, typically 10pm-7am. "Campers aren't respectful of other campers and very noisy here," mentions one Pawtuckaway reviewer, while another notes Bear Brook remains "quiet even on closing weekend."

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature playground equipment for children ages 3-12. "We've been back her a few times because my girls love it. They have 3 outdoor pools(sports, toddler, regular) plus an indoor pool for rainy or chilly days. They also have crafts, hayrides and games, playground and other events," shares Kate C.

Tips from RVers

Hookup locations: Site layouts vary significantly, affecting convenience for larger rigs. As noted about Tuxbury Pond RV Campground, "We stayed here for a week, our site was large with full hookups and the area was very clean, some sites in other sections are closer together."

Dump station access: Not all campgrounds offer on-site dump stations. Those that do may have limited hours (typically 9am-7pm) and weekend congestion. "Bathhouses offer coin-operated showers; I noticed a price difference between the two of them, so went with the less expensive option!" mentions Jean C. about Bear Brook.

Winter accommodations: Some RV sites remain open year-round with varying levels of winter service. "Open in the winter for $400/mo. + elec." mentions Kiarra M. about one campground, though noting that full services may not be available during off-season months.
