Most campgrounds near Pineville, Missouri sit at elevations between 800-1,200 feet within the Ozark Plateau region. These riverside camping areas experience humid subtropical conditions with hot summers reaching 90°F and cold winters that can drop below freezing. Flash flooding can occur after heavy rainfall, particularly along the Elk River and Indian Creek watersheds where many campgrounds are situated.
What to do
Mountain biking access: Blowing Springs RV Park & Campsites offers exceptional trail access for bikers. "This camp ground is close to a mecca of both biking and mountain biking trails," notes Mike B., who gave the park five stars. The trails connect to larger networks including the Back 40 system.
Off-road adventures: Rush Springs Ranch UTV/ATV Park Campground provides extensive trail systems for various skill levels. "There are many more intense off-road options and challenges though," reports Thomas H., who visited with a stock 4Runner. Day passes cost $35 with camping at $15 per person nightly.
Fishing opportunities: Roaring River State Park Campground hosts a trout hatchery with stocked waters. "Fishing is good for all ages and day fishing licenses are available and hiking trails are great," explains Sandi C. The park has recently undergone major renovations, with improvements still in progress.
What campers like
Creek access: Blowing Springs RV Park & Campsites receives praise for its natural water features. "Definitely hike back to Blowing Springs, LOTS of flowing water," recommends Annie C. The park separates tent campers from RVs, with tent sites placed along the creek.
Spacious sites: Prairie Creek offers well-spaced campsites with lake access. "Spacious sites surrounded by tall oaks & plenty of wildlife. Each site comes with a picnic table, fire pit, stove table & lantern hook," writes Kristi A., who appreciated the multi-family sites available.
Store conveniences: Shady Beach Camp & Canoe provides on-site supplies for forgetful campers. "The convenience shop had everything you could possibly forget at home and plus! They have thought of everything you might need while camping," reports Liz C., who rated the campground five stars.
What you should know
Tent site locations: Campsite placement varies significantly between parks. At River Ranch Resort, "Website said site we reserved was shady and grassy. Shade was ok but barely tufts of grass. Mostly sharp rocks/gravel/dirt which ended up tearing a hole in the bottom of our tarp footprint and tent," warns Angela L.
Bathroom conditions: Facility maintenance varies widely between campgrounds. "Bathrooms are a little run down and small, the sand volleyball court was ruined by the recent flooding and still has yet to be repaired," notes Calan G. about Shady Beach Camp & Canoe.
Noise levels: Some campgrounds cater to different crowds. River Ranch Resort "caters to the 20-something party crowd. If you're in that demo, you'll love it, if you're not, you won't," advises Scott C., who gave the resort three stars.
Tips for camping with families
Water safety precautions: At Campground At The Falls, waterfall access requires supervision. "A roaring waterfall right in the campground," mentions Savannah T., who rated it five stars for family enjoyment. Water levels change seasonally, affecting safety conditions.
Kid-friendly programs: Roaring River State Park offers educational opportunities. "You can walk the holding tanks and feed the trout from baby to ready to be released into the river. There is also a cave you can walk in where you'll find a pool of water that goes for miles underground," shares Wendy M.
Swimming options: Prairie Creek provides designated swimming areas for families. "There are nice recreational areas with play equipment, pavilions and beach volley ball. There is an area for swimming as well," notes Matt S., though he cautions that bathrooms need updating.
Tips for RVers
Leveling challenges: Prepare for uneven sites at many campgrounds. At Prairie Creek, "I never was able to get our TT level at site 92. Over 8" difference from side to side," reports Roger H., who still enjoyed his stay despite this issue.
Site selection: At Indian Creek Campground, experienced campers recommend specific sites. "We liked site 71 in that loop. It offered the most space and was a full hook up. That is one of the best things about this campground. Several full hookups," advises Cathy S.
Hookup variations: Check reservation details carefully for utility availability. "Reserved spots here solely because of availability for Memorial Day weekend. Basically every spot has water hookup EXCEPT the spots in the loop we were in," warns Mandi R. about Prairie Creek.
