    Montauk State Park Campground

    Springs are beautiful

We didn't camp here, but hiked and drove through the campground. It was small, but decent. Seems pretty quiet. Good for trout fishing in season.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

    Great for paddle boarding

This was a beautiful campground with lots to do: biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, swimming. Lots of deer to watch at dusk in the park. Loved to trees here.

Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area

    Beware of ticks

The area is so nice and peaceful we decided to come back out. We tent camped in a new spot that hasn’t been used lately so we run into a ton of ticks and chiggers, it was annoying but nothing bug spray with 40% deet definitely helped.

Since it was the weekend all the good spots were taken but we still had a good time with a nice view.

Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area

    First Camp Trip of 2026

Just one look around and we spontaneously decided to camp that night to check out the area. Amazingly beautiful and well maintained campgrounds near the Lake of The Ozarks just for military families, count me in. Area is easy to navigate with bathroom facilities, playground and pavilion with grills, plenty of fishing spots, tons of rv, cabins and tent campsites. You can also rent boats, jet skis, and other outdoor gear at the admin office. We took a tent campsite toward the back of the park with beautiful lakes views and a little private beach. We cannot wait to come back to hang out longer.

    Schlicht Springs Access

    Free

Free primitive site with a bathroom. It’s just off a mildly trafficked gravel road. It’s a very awkward campsite. The camp sites are small and right up against the parking lot, but it’s completely free and next to the river.

    Paddy Creek Recreation Area

    Closed with zero explanation

Drove an hour to get there and it was closed without any explanation. Also it’s 15 dollars when it’s open, some reviews on google said it’s by donation.

Bizzare, Aggressive, Threatening Behavior towards our Family

Decided to visit with family(wife, teenage daughter, and 76 y.o. father) this Saturday afternoon, after completing a peaceful hike at Onandoga S.P., to consider camping later in the week. We politely, respectfully drove into the campground on the MAIN LOOP, around 5-10 mph, and checked the condition of the campsites. We noticed a few other campers present throughout the campground. Our windows were rolled down. Near the primitive campsites, a white vehicle rapidly, aggressively approached us from the left, rear of our car. Horn blaring. RECKLESSLY drove right up onto our rear bumper, then swerved to the left to try to force us over. The man rapidly approached us from his vehicle and accosted us with multiple, rapid fire questions what we were doing and why we were there. WHILE HE WAS AGGRESSIVELY INTERROGATING US, HE WAS CROUCHED FORWARD, POSTURING THAT HE WAS PREPARED TO DRAW ON US. I COULD CLEARLY SEE HIS LEFT HAND ON A FIREARM IN HIS LEFT POCKET- the handle of the firearm was clearly visible. The silhouette of the gun was clearly visible in his left pants pocket. Any reasonably intelligent person would have seen as we drove at a near walking pace on the main loop that we were not there to cause any problems. Any REMOTELY INTELLIGENT person would have instantly realized that we were just a family checking out potential campsites. Any reasonable person would have also considered this RECKLESS ACT OF AGGRESSION as a threat on their family. I was concerned for the safely of my family and myself. An embarrassing act of overreach. The"security guard" identified himself as"Dave." We will NEVER give this place our business again. I will NEVER risk taking my family here again. This place probably does not want your family here either...
