Wolverine Campground's full hookup sites accommodate both tent and RV camping with pets allowed throughout the property. Camping areas feature picnic tables, fire rings, and water/electric hookups, with most sites situated in partially wooded settings that provide some shade for dogs. Hilltop Campgrounds offers economically-priced full hookup sites at $40 per night with pets welcome, while Otter Lake Park Campground provides cabin accommodations that accept pets. Sites at Wolverine can be crowded during holiday weekends, and many campers note the campground gets busy with both day visitors and overnight guests. ['The staff at most campgrounds enforce pet leash policies strictly, especially in shared recreation areas.'] Water Tower Travel Trailer Park provides full hookup sites for $28 per night with clean facilities, though sites are described as long but not particularly wide for pets that need space.

Dog-friendly trails connect several campgrounds to nearby recreation areas, with Kingslanding Kampground offering access to a spring-fed lake ideal for dogs that enjoy swimming. The lake prohibits gas-powered boats, creating a quieter environment for pets sensitive to noise. Most campgrounds require pets remain on leash at all times when outside RVs or tents, with designated pet waste disposal stations throughout the grounds. Seasonal considerations affect pet comfort, as summer temperatures can make camping challenging without adequate shade. Several sites feature waterfront access where pets can cool off, though swimming areas may have separate regulations regarding pet access. Campers report varying experiences with site privacy, with some locations offering more seclusion than others for reactive dogs needing distance from neighbor pets.

      Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

      Private camping

Very private sites. I was surprised at how well each site was hidden from the others. Restrooms can be a bit far from some sites. Nice little dog park by the beach too.

      Clear Water Campgrounds

      Love, love, love this campground.

This is a quiet, friendly and family campground. The staff is very willing to help any way they can. The sites are level and spacious.

A great place for the kids! With a beach, playground and paved roads is nice but the frosting in this cake is the petting zoo. Animals from bunnies, peacocks & cats to horses, goats and of course Milton the burro, get it? Milton Burro, LOL

The store has stuff for the kids at very reasonable prices and the ice cream shop across the street is a nice walk after dinner. There's a light there for safe crossing, too.

Try this place, you'll add this to your good memories.

No credit or debit cards. Cash and checks only.

      Clearwater Campground

      Nice!

A fun little campground with a nice bunch of petting zoo type animals! The beach is clean and the lake is warm! Very nice layout with walking trail around the lake. The only complaint was not nearly enough trash cans around (like, none easy to find) and the bathrooms were nasty for our 2 day visit. Price per night for full hook up was $40 :-)

      Port Huron KOA

      Commercialized

If you like this type of camping then this theme park camping is for you. It's right in town with sparse trees and very small sites. Make sure to mark the max allowed occupancy to be camping because, if you don't, you will be charged extra cash for your child to spend the day with you while spending money on their amenities. They do have a little amusement park right next door so that can help entertain the young ones for a while and we did appreciate the dog park. It's not a horrible place as we did enjoy ourselves the first visit there. The campsite we had was in the back, between 2 cabins, and that one was actually a decent size. The 2nd trip was a bummer as we were reprimanded for having my girlfriends daughter show up and have breakfast with us. Which, by the way, we bought from the and she shopped in their souvenir store and purchased items. We had to pay another $5 so we could spend that extra money at their campground. Other than that, enjoy.

      Frankenmuth Jellystone Park

Fun RV park and very close to downtown

Our site was averaged out to $82.71 a night with the weekly rate discount.

We were in Site# 306 (a deluxe plus RV site - be aware that some of these are back-ins and not clearly labeled on the site map - we had to change sites to a pull-thru). We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.
The site was easy to level.

Our site was not shaded with zero trees. We weren’t able to sit outside because of the direct sun until after 8:30pm.
This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The deluxe plus lot comes without a concrete patio but with a picnic table and fire ring. They do sell firewood and will deliver to your site.

There is free WiFi. They do not offer Cable TV but there are quite a few channel options.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They do not provide garbage service at your site so you must walk to garbage dumpster.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They also allow you to rent pedal bikes. They do not provide golf cart rentals.

They do have a heated indoor and heated outdoor Swimming pool and one hot tub.

There is a Playground. They also offer Gaga ball, basketball sport court, and volleyball courts. There is a Game room for kids. They have a Putt putt course and Jumping pad.

They have a great general store. There is a separate Activity Center for kids.
There are tons of scheduled activities for kids like wagon rides, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, etc. Activities are scheduled all day from 9am to 8pm.

There is a snack bar on site from 4pm-9:30pm where you can get hot dogs, brats, pretzels, nachos, ice cream, etc.

The streets are mostly paved and good for riding bikes.

This is an RV park with cabins to rent also. Tent camping is also allowed.

They have two shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. There is a great area to hang clothes and store your toiletries in the shower stall. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine in the arcade room. There are approximately 4washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.75 to wash and $0.75 to dry a load.

They do not have a fenced in dog park. There are areas to walk dogs though.

Flies were an issue and bug spray was needed.

There were no trails to hike off of the campground.

Some fun things to do outside of the campground are Frankenmuth FunShips (chocolate & wine tasting), the Golden Ticket Trolley, the Bavarian Belle (popcorn & sodas) River Place Shops, wineries, and Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland store. This RV park is less than a mile to downtown/River Place Shops where there is tons of shopping.

    Guide to Mayfield

Campgrounds near Mayfield, Michigan offer diverse outdoor recreation options with prices ranging from $28-$40 per night for full hookup sites. The region features a mix of county parks and private campgrounds surrounding several lakes including Holloway Reservoir, Otter Lake, and Lake Nepessing. Most campgrounds operate seasonally from late April through October, with a few offering year-round access for winter recreation.

    What to do

Lake activities on Holloway Reservoir: At Wolverine Campground, visitors enjoy swimming, fishing and boating on the north shore of Holloway Reservoir. "The lake is supposed to be great for walleye fishing, even if it a tad shallow. Campground is well maintained with picnic tables, and fire rings," notes Chris S. The reservoir supports various water sports despite being relatively shallow.

Winter recreation options: Several campgrounds near Mayfield remain open year-round. Holly Recreation Area is accessible throughout winter, while Outdoor Adventures Lake Shore Resort provides indoor recreation when temperatures drop. "Great opportunities for winter sports. Pools, lakes, mini golf. Designed for young families," mentions Despina S. about the facilities available during colder months.

Hiking trail networks: The region features multiple interconnected trail systems. Holly State Recreation Area offers "several well marked trails" according to Jennifer H., who adds that the park has "several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees." Most trails connect camping areas to nearby lakes and recreation facilities, providing good opportunities for wildlife viewing.

    What campers like

Spring-fed lake swimming: The private lake at The New Kingslanding Kampground provides a peaceful swimming experience without gas-powered boats. "The lake is a spring fed lake with fishing and no gas engines. Its the best swimming in the area!" reports Jessie C. The restriction on motorized boats creates a quieter environment for both swimming and fishing.

Full hookup affordability: Budget-conscious campers appreciate the economical full hookup options. "For a full hook up campground this place is very economically friendly at only $40 a night!" notes Tammy P. about Hilltop Campgrounds. Similarly, Water Tower Travel Trailer Park offers full hookup sites for just $28 per night, though spaces are described as "long but not wide."

Cabin accommodations: Multiple campgrounds offer cabin rentals for those without camping equipment. Covenant Hills Camp features various cabin types suitable for different group sizes. "We had a large group of families with varying ages and abilities. We used multiple different styles of cabins and a few RV sites, as well as various buildings for activities," shares Heather M., noting the cabins accommodated their week-long stay comfortably.

    What you should know

Seasonal operating schedules: Most campgrounds in the Mayfield area operate from April or May through October. "Tis campground is located on the north shore of Holloway reservoir it is open from end of may to first of September," notes C P. about Wolverine Campground. A few properties like Addison Oaks County Park remain open slightly later, typically closing mid-October.

Management quality varies: Camper experiences differ significantly based on management. "The manager there is very self entitled and mean. I watched her scream at girl in her car for 10 min," reports Corinne B. about one campground. Conversely, other properties receive praise for staff attentiveness: "The owners truly care about the campers and the property. Very friendly campers, total sense of community," notes Sondra B.

Site privacy considerations: Campgrounds offer varying levels of privacy. "This is a resort not a campground... Everyone is packed in, hardly any trees," cautions Sarah O. about one property. For those seeking more seclusion, certain sections of Holly State Recreation Area provide better separation: "We stayed in the Maple loop which had several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees," shares Jennifer H.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-focused amenities: Groveland Oaks County Park offers extensive activities for children. "The park has a large beach, boat rentals, bike paths plus a BMX area and several playgrounds," explains Carol W. Another camper notes, "This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds."

Dog-friendly beaches: Several campgrounds feature designated swimming areas where dogs can cool off. "We got a secluded campsite, and it's gorgeous- tucked into the woods and was easy to back into. I love this place and so do my 3 dogs," shares Ashley F. about Holly State Recreation Area, which includes a "great beach with a dog friendly area" according to Zachary S.

Activity programming: Seasonal events provide structured recreation for families. "We joined a group site and meet up every major holiday at Groveland. We feel like we went up North without the driving four hours. The park is well laid out and includes a ton of fun activities for young and old," reports Mike N. Multiple campgrounds organize themed weekends, particularly during holiday periods.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup locations and equipment needs: At some campgrounds, utilities are positioned inconveniently. "If you're in a camper, make sure you have an extension cord. The power is quite a ways away," advises Jennifer about Wolverine Campground. Similarly, Otter Lake Park Campground requires preparation: "You can fill up and dump at the front of the campground," notes Ashley F., highlighting the lack of water hookups at individual sites.

Site dimensions and backing challenges: Larger RVs may struggle at certain campgrounds. "Our site was a little difficult to get into because it was on a curve and there was a seasonal camper with a Class A right across from our site which didn't allow for a lot of space to maneuver our 26 ft travel trailer," explains Debbie H. Site dimensions vary significantly, with some properties featuring spacious lots while others have sites described as "very cramped."

Seasonal site quality: The timing of visits affects RV site conditions. "The sites are VERY close together so it is very cramped," Jennifer reports about peak season at one campground. For better spacing, dog friendly campgrounds near Mayfield typically offer more room during shoulder seasons when weekend crowds diminish.
