      Pontiac Lake Recreation Area

      Private camping

Very private sites. I was surprised at how well each site was hidden from the others. Restrooms can be a bit far from some sites. Nice little dog park by the beach too.

      Clear Water Campgrounds

      Love, love, love this campground.

This is a quiet, friendly and family campground. The staff is very willing to help any way they can. The sites are level and spacious.

A great place for the kids! With a beach, playground and paved roads is nice but the frosting in this cake is the petting zoo. Animals from bunnies, peacocks & cats to horses, goats and of course Milton the burro, get it? Milton Burro, LOL

The store has stuff for the kids at very reasonable prices and the ice cream shop across the street is a nice walk after dinner. There's a light there for safe crossing, too.

Try this place, you'll add this to your good memories.

No credit or debit cards. Cash and checks only.

      Clearwater Campground

      Nice!

A fun little campground with a nice bunch of petting zoo type animals! The beach is clean and the lake is warm! Very nice layout with walking trail around the lake. The only complaint was not nearly enough trash cans around (like, none easy to find) and the bathrooms were nasty for our 2 day visit. Price per night for full hook up was $40 :-)

Bathrooms were dated and we arrived Monday after Labor Day so I can't judge them. They had a FULL HOUSE on Labor Day per the front gate. I was very impressed there was no garbage at campsites and picked up very well.

      Port Huron KOA

      Commercialized

If you like this type of camping then this theme park camping is for you. It's right in town with sparse trees and very small sites. Make sure to mark the max allowed occupancy to be camping because, if you don't, you will be charged extra cash for your child to spend the day with you while spending money on their amenities. They do have a little amusement park right next door so that can help entertain the young ones for a while and we did appreciate the dog park. It's not a horrible place as we did enjoy ourselves the first visit there. The campsite we had was in the back, between 2 cabins, and that one was actually a decent size. The 2nd trip was a bummer as we were reprimanded for having my girlfriends daughter show up and have breakfast with us. Which, by the way, we bought from the and she shopped in their souvenir store and purchased items. We had to pay another $5 so we could spend that extra money at their campground. Other than that, enjoy.

    Guide to Lapeer

Lapeer, Michigan sits within a landscape of small lakes and rolling terrain, with an average elevation of 830 feet above sea level. The local sandy soil conditions prevalent in campgrounds like Metamora-Hadley create distinct camping environments that can become muddy after rainfall but provide excellent drainage during normal conditions. The area features numerous spring-fed lakes that maintain cooler temperatures even during summer months.

    What to do

Swimming in gas-engine free waters: The New Kingslanding Kampground offers a spring-fed lake perfect for swimming with no gas-powered boats allowed. "The lake is a spring fed lake with fishing and no gas engines. Its the best swimming in the area!" notes Jessie C. The private lake rarely gets crowded even during peak summer.

Trail hiking: Holly Recreation Area provides extensive trail networks through wooded terrain. "Pretty park with several well marked trails. We stayed in the Maple loop which had several semi-private sites screened from neighbors by trees," shares Jennifer H. The park maintains multiple loops with varying difficulty levels appropriate for most fitness levels.

Fishing opportunities: Wolverine Campground offers access to Holloway Reservoir, known for its walleye fishing. "Lake is supposed to be great for walleye fishing, even if it a tad shallow," notes Chris S. The lake depth averages 8-15 feet in most areas, making it ideal for shore fishing.

Family activities: Groveland Oaks County Park provides multiple recreation options for families. "This campground has a lake for swimming, water slide, arcade, boat rentals, mini golf, biking trails and fishing. Lots for kids to do... also skate park and 2 playgrounds," explains Debbie H. Daily activities are scheduled during summer weekends.

    What campers like

Secluded wooded sites: Holly Recreation Area offers campsites with natural privacy barriers. "I love this place and so do my 3 dogs. We got a secluded campsite, and it's gorgeous tucked into the woods and was easy to back into. You're far enough from people to where you don't really see a lot of them or hear them that often," reports Ashley F.

Clean facilities: Groveland Oaks County Park maintains well-kept restrooms even during busy periods. "The showers cost 25 cents and we heard some people complain but we thought that the showers were immaculate and the time allowed was quite sufficient for a nice shower without wasting water," explains Carol W.

Pet-friendly swimming areas: Addison Oaks County Park offers extensive trails for dogs and owners. "This was our first time camping. The park has a beautiful 2.5 mile trail around the lake that makes this campground great. We brought our own kayaks but they do rent boats. We saw deer and rabbit," says Karen C.

Affordability: The New Kingslanding Kampground provides budget-friendly rates compared to other area options. "It is also the cheapest in the area!" mentions Jessie C. Sites typically run $25-35 per night for standard accommodations.

    What you should know

Site selection matters: Wolverine Campground layouts can be challenging for some equipment. "If you're in a camper, make sure you have an extension cord. The power is quite a ways away. There is no internet or WiFi access. The camping spaces are VERY close together so it is very cramped," warns Jennifer.

Reservation timing: During summer months, especially holidays, campgrounds fill quickly. "On holiday weekends it is heavily used, so you may want to call ahead before you go," advises Chris S. about Wolverine Campground.

Varying privacy levels: Holly State Recreation Area offers different loops with varying levels of seclusion. "I stayed in the rustic Aspen loop and it was fine for early season but come peak season, the sites lack privacy and are kind of small," notes Ashleigh M. The Trillium loop generally offers more privacy than others.

Sandy conditions: Metamora-Hadley Recreation Area has predominantly sandy soil. "If it rains everything is mud if your in the back camp section," cautions D P. Bringing ground tarps or mats can help manage these conditions.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Covenant Hills Camp offers numerous structured children's activities. "Lots to do. climbing wall, zip line, swimming, fishing alot of pike," shares C P. Most activities run between 10am-4pm during summer season.

Playground access: Covenant Hills Camp maintains multiple play areas across their grounds. "Has everything, store, ice cream shop, beach with small lake (with activities). Everyone is pretty packed in but nice shaded mature lots," explains Sarah O.

Site selection for families: Hilltop Campgrounds offers sites near Lake Nepessing with easy water access. "The beach is right on the sports lake nepessing. Forget something while packing? No worries! They have you covered at their conscience store specific to their campgrounds!" notes Tammy P.

Off-site options: Several state parks offer junior ranger programs during summer months. "We've state at this campground on and off for roughly 3 weeks staying mostly at the Cedar cabin but we also tent camped as well. The staff is amazing, the campground is well maintained and quiet. We love the trails and the wildlife and the kids loved the parks," shares Stephanie H. about Holly Recreation Area.

    Tips from RVers

Power considerations: Hilltop Campgrounds offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service. "All sites are 50 amp full hook ups," confirms Tammy P. Extra power adapters may be needed for older campers with 30-amp systems.

Site leveling: Water Tower Travel Trailer Park provides level sites for easier setup. "Sites are long but not wide. Level. Full hookups. Wifi you can stream on. LTE cell service," shares Lake George L.

Winter camping options: Several campgrounds in the Lapeer area remain open during colder months. "We are full timers here for the winter into spring. The campground here is simple but the people are so friendly it will be difficult to leave when our season here is over," says Alicia A. about Hilltop Campgrounds.

Dump station access: Most campgrounds provide sanitary dump access, with varying convenience. "No water hookup but you can fill up and dump at the front of the campground," notes Ashley F. about Holly Recreation Area.
